That guy buys stolen computers. He would have taken yours apart for parts or made a new one out of it but bet your ass he knew exactly what he was doing and you are lucky you went there as soon as it was pinged. I'm glad you got it back, but I would have called the cops and not PAID HIM SHIT! He knowingly bought stolen item. He's no good. Glad you got it back.

About your bike. As someone who has a few ebikes and seen other's get stolen I can't suggest you getting GPS trackers for your bike enough when you get/build another. And get more than one for redundancy. Of differing companies like an Apple and a Samsung for eg. GPS tags can give phones a warning they're being followed but if you have two and they get the warning and find one GPS tag they'll most likely think subsequent warnings are the old tag still.
Also I can't suggest ebike insurance enough. Mine is 75ish a year and it's fully covered even ebike rental and if I hurt someone while riding or damage something while riding. I use Oyster but all big companies have ebike insurance now. If you live in a high crime area it might be more expensive though. I live in Maine which is the safest state in the US and then not near a city so that helps. So your quote might be more than mine. GL and stay vigilant. I could talk for days about security like this.
Also, covering your bike has been shown in a(iirc London area)study to curb bike theft. I think the idea is if they don't know what is under it for easy checking out they will move to an easier target. IDK but it's something to remember.

Riveting storytelling, and a GREAT video! Sorry this happened to you. I had LoJack on my laptop when it was stolen in Vegas in 2012. Two months later, the guy took it out of his closet to check it and try to sell it, and I got a message from LoJack that they had contacted the police with the location of the computer. The Vegas police are VERY serious about grand theft from visitors, so they started surveillance, and about two weeks later, the detectives called and had my computer AND all the VO stuff I had in my bag - about $5k worth, and the guy went to prison for 15 years (he had other outstanding warrants). LoJack is some of the best money I've ever spent. And you're right...the feeling of relief when you get your stuff back, is indescribable.

So much of this resonates with me. I had £20k of camera gear stolen from the back seat of my car in London. I learnt the lesson the hard way that kit on the back seats isn't insured, it has to be in the boot with a cover over the top. Luckily my Mac pinged its location and I eventually got that back (I went through the same rollercoaster of emotions watching it on 'find my'). I eventaully saw some CCTV of the thiefs distributing my kit to other people coming and going in cars, so that was all long gone (along with all the footage i'd shot that day). Glad you managed to get your Mac back, what a great feeling 🙌

This video was so great! I had my phone stolen out of my pocket last year and it just feels so horrible to lose something like that. I hadn’t backed it up to the cloud in a year so I lost all of my photos and videos. It was really just a sickening feeling. I never recovered my stuff but it feels good to see a success story. Made me feel so much happier for you like your victory was mine as well. I wouldn’t have been able to let the guy go though. I have to imagine that computer shop has security cameras inside and the footage would surely reveal the face of the guy with your laptop and if he is indeed the same guy that the other people identified then you should have a very clear case to take legal action against the guy.

Essentially the law allows them to charge what they paid for the items, but only if you have a police order. It’s a bummer. Good news is the police found them within 24 hours and identify the pawnshop and thief. I don’t recall the details but they use a database to access pawn shop sales. BTW, I think Daryl is sitting on that couch behind the screen - 18:04.

Levi, I have a really funny anecdote for you from my corporate employment days. I often worked in computer training centers owned by a big publicly traded company. One of the centers was a brand new build-out with a centrally managed alarm and entry system so I could call the security desk in California to have them open the doors for me in DC. But!!!! The contractors completely screwed up!! There was a motion sensor which was supposed to unlock the doors automatically when anyone approached the door from the inside. Well, for some bizarre reason, the contractors had placed the sensor OUTSIDE the office! Anyone on that floor in the building who approached our training center would unlock the door by virtue of moving!
I am literally laughing out loud remembering my first training class at this beautiful new facility when I discovered this. Predictably, we had an incident in the first or second week in that facility where someone wearing a hoodie, recorded on camera, entered the training facility and walked out with a mini-tower computer which was in the common area of the office suite.
I remember getting the door lock contractor into the office and having to demonstrate that moving anywhere near the OUTSIDE of the office would unlock the door!!! You really can't make this stuff up!

Although I’m glad you got your laptop back, PAYING to get it back encourages these types of crimes because there’s a profit, even if it’s 40 bucks!
That shop owner guy is a PROBLEM and is willfully involved in illegal activity!
Reporting him would not be “making things worse” it will be making things better for others!
Criminals don’t care about others or their things, holding them accountable isn’t being a trouble maker, it’s being a peace keeper!
The reason is because a lot (if not MOST) criminals are involved in OTHER crimes as well!
I’m glad you got your stuff back and I wish you nothing but the best!

@@Levi_Allen Unless some of us were there with you aren’t all these RUclips comments assumptions?
Aren’t we all assuming your story is true and all these things happened just the way you explained them to happen?
Aren’t all great stories/movies (like this one) edited with it in mind that the viewer is going to assume things?
I encourage you not to assume I am attacking you. You dealt with this situation in a way that you felt was best. Although I don’t agree with SOME of your decisions, I am genuinely happy you got your stuff back.
      I wish you well. 😃

That computer shop guy was SKETCHY AF. He knew *exactly* what he was doing, he was trying to buy what he knew was a stolen laptop for $40, absolutely unreal. Hilarious that he pretended "oh, screen brightness was low" for his reason as to why he didn't call your number. I guarantee if someone were to do some searching online regarding that shop, they'd find that there were a lot of people who had issues with stolen goods somehow finding their way to that store.
Also bro, you should've refused to pay that guy $40 to get your computer back. I know you were just wanting to get it back already, but that was illegal for him to even ask that of you, it was stolen property and he knowingly accepted stolen items.

This it the part of the video that DRIVES ME CRAZY. He finds a pawn shop owner that TAKES Stolen Goods - and PAYS HIM!?? The second I confirmed it was my laptop - the conversation would have ended - I would have walked out of the store and immediately called the cops and went back in with them. This guy will just do this again to someone else!

Thanks for sharing this Levi! Sorry you had to go through this but stoked you got it back for $44! Did a similar thing with my son’s AirPod pros that he left in class. Two days later followed the signal to an apartment building, got in the building and finally saw a ping by the courtyard. When I got outside I saw two kids, I pinged it again and then pulled up the headphones. I walked up and said my son lost them, to which they said they found them by the side of the road and handed them back.

When you have your government telling residents to make auto theft easier on thieves by leaving their keys by the front door...you can expect much more of this to happen.
