I've NEVER seen a more IMPRESSIVE and EXTENSIVE tutorial...!! As a former CBT specialist, the training video for this equipment is exemplary...!! I'm new to the Scarlett Series, and this TUTORIAL is a MUST SEE..!! Yours is MORE indepth and professionally explained, than ANYTHING this company has published, to date. You, Sir.....should be the "VOICE" of their entire product line. This has been a lifesaver for me. Stellar video...!! Excellent job...!! Thank you.
Thanks! I still get a lot of questions each week that people are confused about stuff but it really boils down to not understanding how audio routing and signal flow works in their DAW as it goes in and out of the interface. I'm in the process of creating an additional video on understanding audio routing and signal flow which will also tie into this video.
This is the best audio interface tutorial I've seen. I totally understand how this whole thing works now. I'm an old school analog mixer guy and struggled to wrap my head around a mixer less audio interface. Nice job!!!
Haha, I had exactly the same thought! Been using audio interfaces for years, but just bought the 1820 new and could not figure out how I couldn't hear the hardware interfaces! Very, very clear and easy tutorial, thanks!
Seriously, you need to get some royalties from Focusrite! This is hands down the best tutorial I have ever seen on using this innocuous utility. My entire comfort level with the Clarrett just increased a thousand-fold because I understand what it is doing... FINALLY! THANK YOU!
What I appreciate the most when it comes to tutorials of that kind is a rather slow narration tempo, which gives the viewer the time to absorb what he just heard. 👍👍👍
Thank you a thousand times. I read the entire Focusrite 18i8 and Focusrite Control manuals and still didn't totally get it, but your explanation is crystal clear.
your tutorial says it all. I listened to the so-called best explanation of how Focusrite Control works, and I walked away with absolutely no ideas. Your You Tube explained this perfectly.. very much appreciated.
You're quiet welcome. It's hard to believe that 6 years later this video is still helpful to many. I almost took it down at one point, but I guess I'll be keeping it up a little bit longer.
There is literally no tutorial that better explains all of this in a very easy simple to understand manner. You did such a fantastic job on this video and I would like to thank you very much for taking the time to do so! I will now carry this knowledge forward as I create music and I will only know it because you taught it to me! 🙏
One of the better tutorials out there on this, at least for this configuration. Helping some friends with non-DAW related issues and they are really struggling with FCS.
Omg, I've been trying to understand this for a while!! I can't believe this amazing tutorial has been on here for 6 years and I'm only seeing it now!!! 😂😂 Thank you so much!
Outstanding. This is THE most comprehensive information on an interface on the planet! Thank goodness someone can explain this in one video without all the techno babbling. He is clear, concise and informative. Outstanding!
This was the MOST helpful tutorial and explanation about Focusrite Control. Thank you so much for your time and explanation. I'm here in 2022, feeling super grateful. Subscribed!
Genius! Thank you so much. This is definitely the best focusrite tutorial out there. It's better than anything seen on YT, even by focusrite themselves. Great job sir
@@LearningwithMarkWarren can you do an in depth tutorial about headphone issues? I cant find anything anywhere. I had set all of my settings to default and fixed everything except my headphones. Thanks in advance!
great great great teaching. Even better and much less annoying than the official focusrite website. Thanks for your clarity and delivery my friend, all the best.
Top work! You took the mystery of this software away and now the software makes sense. I could not even find this level of detail on Focusrite's website!
I've had my 18i8 Gen 2 for a couple of years and had no idea Focusrite Control went this deep, having mostly gone with AISO4ALL with my previous interfaces. I actually found this tutorial after having issues trying to hook up an Axe-Fx. I just got learned! Thank you soo much!
I had my Focusrite for close to two years and never bothered with going deep into the routing. Now I understand what I can use the SPDIF for. Thank you for this video well done.
Mark, you saved me. Thank you so much for this video. A total day saver, music saver, and let's be honest here, you saved my wife's Christmas. LOL! All the best.
ive had my scalett for years and never understood using focusrite control. Now i have been trying to add in a 16 channel 4 bus mixer and do hybrid mixing .. i really was stuck!! this is very helpful, and im gonna try the loop back trick.
Excellent Tutorial. I have been using Mix Control with my Gen1 18i20 for a long time and know it well, however I was shocked when I bought a Gen3 and wondered where all the faders had gone in Focusrite Control! This made it much easier to transition to the new software, thank you!
The main audio/video guy of our company left and now I'm "the new guy" to record our monthly podcasts. I did some testing beforehand and I was strugling to get the audio to a descent level in the speakers headphones unless I amplified it so hard (in hardware) to a point that there was a lot of noise (but not in the recording)... This tutorial (using the same device) is so clear! I now think I know the problem (listening to the raw microphone inputs instead of the amplified and denoised sound from audition)... Hope I can figure it out before my first recording tomorrow. Thanks Mark, very good tutorial.
@@bungalowbluesman It has been a while, and somebody else with more time took over. Too many effects will make the processed audio lag behind you actually talking which is really mindf*cking. I assume it won't be that bad if you only do an amplify effect and listen to the output of that. BUT, as far as I remember I eventually just played with the headphone gains + microphone gains on the focusrite untill I was able to listen to the raw signal (no lag) with enough volume to understand and no/little noise... It's the "best" way I think. Sorry that I cannot help you more
Thank you so much, Mark!!!! This tutorial is so easy and well put-together. I am pretty technophobic nd without this tutorial I woud have been LOST! So much gratitude for you!!!
Very well done! I just wanted to mute my mic from the speakers to avoid feedback, but still hear it in the headphones. Also learned how to monitor the guitar without latency. Great job, thanks, subscribed.
This saved my life. I had so many issues trying to get my inputs on the back of my 6i6 2nd gen from playing a turntable. I tested this out last night and finally got it figured out!
Great job Mark! I hope you'll do another Focusrite Control Software tutorial with the new generation interface, which has some different features from the one in this video. You're brilliant.
I just bought the 18i20 gen3 and had a little trouble understanding the software. Although it is significantly different from what I was using previously, it is actually better in my opinion and your efforts here are very much appreciated, as it helped me get back to work.
Yay, Thanks for this ;-) Just upgraded from a 6i6 1st gen to an 18i20 2nd gen. When the Focusrite Control came up I was like, 'what the F is this?!'. Nice to find a great video tutorial explaning everything.
Best Focusrite video ever, the loopback trick solved too many problems that I faced trying to steam with OBS, basically OBS doesn't support asió so there's no way to catch the Ableton output
Excellent video dude thanks for that, there's a lot of talk about the s/w since 3rd gen focusrite devices removed some hardware switches in favour of using the focusrite control app so good to see a proper review of how to use it. You've helped me make up my mind on which interface i want also. thank you!
You're welcome! I have a review with the new 4i4 that I'll have up soon. I have a love/hate relationship with it for those very reasons of the hardware exclusion vs the 2i4 Gen 2. Overall I do like the new unit but since I'm used to the Focusrite control software from having the 18i8 Gen 2, the lack of the physical hardware buttons isn't that big of a deal for me. I think the 4i4 will replace my 18i8 since I'm not using all the I/O right now in my personal studio.
Hey man, just wanted to say this is a great video! I just bought a Scarlett 18i20 and Octopre. I was confused about how the Control software worked but this really cleared up a lot of things for me! Thanks!
Great video ! Have had a scarlett 6i6 for years and as I'm receiving my 18i20 soon for new needs, this little tutorial freshened up my knowledge ! Thanks !
Really good tutorial. The best walkthrough I have found on this software. I'm researching the Gen 3 versions and this answered a lot of my questions about what exactly can be done in the interface. Thanks!
Mark - Thank you! I just bought the 18i20 last week and am still finding my way around the unit and the control software. I really appreciate your walkthru of the device's routing capabilities and especially the S/PDIF tutorial. Very helpful!
I'm a total beginner, but have old-school experience from decades ago with I was in an amateur rock band. Back then I guess we were all using Fender guitars and amps and all the cables were, I believe, "TS" 1/4" plugs, etc. Okay, fast forward to today to me trying to setup a Focusrite 4i4. I know how to set up the mic, no problem, but I'm confused about how to connect two pairs of line signal speakers. I won't ever need to control the L&R channels separately, so then the question is do I use one TRS 1/4" plug per 4i4 jack per speaker pair, or do I use one TS 1/4" plug per 4i4 jack for each individual speaker, or would either work? Best RUclips video I've seen to date on how to set up the interface after wasting hours and hours on many other presentations. Great job. Thank You.
Awesome video Mark. I was trying to figure out how to record a guitar tutorial from RUclips, and found no help whatsoever from Focusrite's help. But you showed me exactly how to do it and you even provided helpful cautions regarding feedback. Much appreciated.
The last trick was great. I had been using audio from youtube my iphone to a bluetooth receiver into the Scarlett to record in the DAW. Now I see the way to loopback, which is better.
Thank you for your time and effort. I have been on the 1st Gen 2i2 for many years, now, but alas need a bit connectivity. I see the 2i4 has been replaced with 4i4 in the third gen, and didn't dedicated switch we have come accustomed to. I see everything has to be done in the software, switching from mono to stereo, etc. I do agree, the older software UX was very confusing, which prevented me from upgrading.
Thank you for making this video! I was really wanting to do a loopback. I'm doing something a little different that you did, but the explanation on using the SPDIF out and in helped a lot! I'm all set and ready to go!
