    Literally just saw a video of someone comparing EVO 4 with this. There's no way lots of people said the EVO 4 is better. I think Gen 3 to Gen 4 had a massive upgrade. This has better sound quality, more functions, and it looks better lol. Oh and they give you sooo many free plugins! Only thing I will say is I do miss increasing and decreasing my volume with my Mac keyboard.

Also if I want to put some effects over vocals/music what is easiest software to use. A lot of people use hardware with effects mapped to buttons so its easy to just hit a button but Id rather not buy hardware - unless absolutely needed - and rather use an easy FX software panel instead...but I don't waste alot of time learning a deep program just so I apply a few fun FX

    Zane, this is very helpful, thanks for posting! I really need to improve my recordings, and a 2i2 4th Gen bundle (with condenser mic & headphones) looks like a good starting point. If I make a video though, how would I sync the sound to that?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 месяца назад

      I record the audio directly to my computer and then I sync it in my video editing software. Do a few claps at the start and it makes it easier to line things up.
      If your camera has a line input or mic input then you could use an aux cable from either the headphones output on the 2i2 or a y cable from the outputs on the back and then connect it to your camera.

    Huge thanks for the tips!
    2i2 is my first home setup for recording and these tips helps a lot as a home recording beginner now that I have an actual project underway.
    I'd still have a small filling question of would the system work for bass recording if the sound if driven through Dynamic Wah and distortion pedal before it connects to the Scarlett or do I have to rely on the digital amps in order to find the right tune I'm playing with?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  22 дня назад +1

      You can use pedals going direct into the Scarlett 2i2. Whether it’s instrument level or line level depends on the pedal. Some pedals will output at instrument level and some will output at line level.
      You don’t need to connect direct and rely on amp sims. I mostly record through pedals connected direct to the audio interface I like committing to sounds when recording.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  2 месяца назад

      No. Once you connect something to the front input it disables the rear input of that channel. Also, using a 1/4” connector for a mic would bypass the mic preamp anyway so the quality wouldn’t be great.

      If you’re talking about when you’re recording and play it back then you just need to record to a mono track or set up the input in your software to only be 1 or 2 not 1+2.
      If you’re talk about when you’re doing direct monitoring then you just need to press the direct monitor button again until it’s in mono mode.
      If you’ve linked the two channels together then unlink them by holding down the select button for a few seconds until they are unlinked.
      All of these things are in the video.

    I'm gonna try a few of these tips, but before I dig down a rabbit hole, anyone have any quick suggestions??

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 месяца назад

      If you’re using a dynamic mic it could need a lot of gain. You might need to crank the gain.
      Also if it’s a dynamic mic, you want to be fairly close to it and make sure you speak or sing very strong. If you have a softer/quieter delivery, a dynamic mic may not be the best choice.
      If this is happening to a condenser, it shouldn’t need as much gain but you still want to make sure you have a nice strong delivery.
      Also if you’re on windows then go into your windows sound settings and make sure the level for your audio interface is set to 100 (all the way up).
      And in case you are using an xlr to 1/4” cable, switch that to a xlr male to xlr female cable. The 1/4” connector bypasses the mic preamp so your levels will be low.

    So basically computer speakers wont work with a scarlet? Mine use the standard mini jack and the scarlet doesnt have a port for them, so I'm guessing my issue is I will need to get 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter to be able to hook up speakers when using ASIO?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  4 месяца назад +1

      The computer speakers connected to your computer won’t work with the Focusrite when using Asio. Asio is intended as a low latency driver and all input and output processing is done within the interface. This is the ideal use.
      If you are going to get an adapter for your speakers, you may want a 3.5mm to Y adapter with 1/4” for the left and right. This way you can connect the speakers to the rear outputs and still have your headphone output available.

    • @TimexG
      @TimexG 4 месяца назад

Like I can hear myself loud and clear through the headphones in real time, but the recording sounds quiet and kinda distant. Could there be any possible reasons for that that you know of?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Месяц назад

      You got the 2i2 studio bundle and that’s the mic you’re referring to? I have the same mic as it came with a solo bundle and it worked fine. The 4th gen 2i2 has even more clean gain so it should work really well with it. That microphone is side address with a front and back so make sure you’re speaking/singing/recording into the front of the mic. Use the auto gain feature of the 2i2 4th gen and it should set the levels correctly for you.
      Look at the waveform of the recorded audio and if it looks full then it’s recording properly so there might be an issue with your daws volume.
      It is possible that you turned down the level in the windows settings. It’s very easy to accidentally do that in audacity or just in the windows settings. So make sure the levels for your inputs and outputs are all set to 100 in windows sound properties. Be sure to check each input as they can be controlled separately in windows.

      @@AudioTechTV So I actually figured it out and it was definitely something I should've thought of sooner lmao. I have a hyperX USB mic that I use for games plugged in still and even though it was actually recording from the new mic, that old mic being plugged in still messed with it somehow. I unplugged it and it's working fine now.

      @RealShaggy haha you were probably recording through that mic which is why it sounded distant. Glad you got it sorted out.

      You can leave them plugged in, it won’t hurt anything.

    Does we need audio interface for headphones dt770pro 32ohms or 80 ohms

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  9 месяцев назад

      The 32 ohm version will have no problems with pretty much any device. The 80 ohm version should be good with a computer but may need to be cranked up a bit.

    Quick question: on abelton live lite it doesn't allow me to choose Focusrite usb as my audio input/output - before i used Fl studio with an asio4all v2 driver - could that be creating complications with my interface?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  6 месяцев назад

      Did you install the Asio driver for the Focusrite interface? It’s not the one that installs automatically. If you didn’t install it then that’s why you don’t see it as an option for an Asio device.

      No idea what you mean by this comment. Use XLR for microphones. The XLR input goes to the mic preamp. The mic preamp brings mic levels up to line levels. Use TS or TRS for instrument or line level devices and make sure you use the proper instrument or line setting.
