    "...being familiar with a something is probably more important than the product itself" is such a true statement! I've been mixing at home with M-Audio AV40s and BX5s. When I used to take my pre-pro to the studio, they'd always ask what I mixed them on! It's just bc I know the speakers, headphones, and other sources I mix and playback on.

    I am not a big subscriber, but this channel is a must. As an artist, I instantly want to record with this guy. As a hobbiest/semi-pro music production guy, I want to study under him. And as a youtube viewer, I want to watch everything he's ever put out, whether it actually pertains to me or not. This was killer to watch. It reminded me of me when I was younger trying to record things for the first time with barely any gear and how excited I was when I succeeded in creating something and being able to listen back to it.
    Man, I love this no bullshit attitude he has of just using/improving your skill and not getting wrapped up in the tech and nonsense where people try and tell you that you can't do if you've got the "wrong" gear. This video just debunked that in 15 minutes. Everyone should want to go create something after seeing this. That song sounded great with very little going on there.
    This might have been the best 25 minutes I've ever spent on RUclips. Keep this up, Mr. Warren. We out there trying to make it need more people like you - encouraging approach.

      What is a driver and buffer.. I’m not experienced in tech talk but am planing on buying one of these things. But I also have windows laptop. So my main question is, is it a problem having a windows pc?

    • @EricFraire
      @EricFraire 5 лет назад +14

      @@iTzAtaXi
      No problem having a Windows PC. It's just preference. I, like many, use Windows for music production.
      The "driver" is software you install so that the computer recognizes hardware (the 2i2 audio interface, in this case). Once you have the interface, you can download the driver from the Focusrite website (or whoever manufactures your interface) and install it on your computer.
      Once drivers are installed it will give you options to mess with buffer & latency parameters.
      However, hold off on messing with anything until you actually notice latency problems while working in your DAW.
      Depending on your setup (like performance of your computer), you might not even experience latency issues and not need to mess with any of those settings.

    It's already been mentioned in the comments, but setting the buffer size much lower will eliminate any latency (but will use more CPU ). Also the Scarlett 2i4 has additional PAD buttons on each channel which are awesome for hot pickups as you can use the Inst setting and attenuate the input so as not to clip.

    Hi I know this video is ancient but I started with the 2i2 and have recently moved onto the focusrite itrack dock/iPad/Cubasis as my recording rig, and I wanted to say that the Focusrite components are exceptional. I'm still using the CM25 as my go to mic, along with a Shure SM57 for some applications.
    I blew out the headphones so those have to be replaced.
    Also wanted to say THANKS for giving us a detailed review of the products, it's always nice to see the gear being used in a real application by someone who is (presumably) not being paid to promote it.
    Also refreshing to see it put to use by an actual musician, I get so tired or software and hardware being demonstrated by people making crap electronic music haha.
    I don't normally follow people on RUclips, but I think I'll make an exception in your case. It's a shame that you don't use Cubase/Cubasis, they could really benefit from having someone like yourself showing how to use their software.
    (Or I should say I could really benefit)

    The great thing about this package for someone just starting out is that you get fairly good extras and a great interface for not too much money. If producing doesn't turn out to be your great passion then no great financial loss. 2i2's will certainly resell. If producing does turn out to be a great passion then you can and will expand. Even if you get a new and bigger interface, the 2i2 is a perfectly usable field interface. Even cheap headphones are handy to have around as extras and the microphone can also be assigned field duty so as not to risk your more expensive mics... recording Bull snorts at the rodeo or thunder and rain or whatnot.

    Wow, I think I have discovered a new big channel, I follow 4 or 5 channels, and this is a new one. I have been producing music with a Pod Studio UX2 many years and I probably get this Scarlett 2i2 (not the bundle). You have made a really interesting video, showing the whole process. Incredibly useful. You have a new subscriber.
    PD: you couldn't low the buffer size to decrease the latency? recording hearing only the DI really bothers me. Would you choose this interface definitely in the range of under 200 usd?? THANK YOU!

    Go down with the hardware buffer to 128 and you wont feel any latency at all...I'm using the scarlet for all my songs, I had the studio package but I returned it cause I did not like the mic. and I bought the Interface as a stand alone device, I wish I could have kept the headphones, cause they were good.
    Have a marvelous time recording :)
    Cheers

      +Conny Conrad I was just about to say the same thing, about the buffer setting, but i thought i'd scroll down to see if someone else had "noticed" that :)
      The mic, judging by the size & shape, may well be something like an Alctron MC001 (aka. Apex 435) or some clone/rebrand of that. K67-type capsule (with a severe boost in the high-mids) with a linear Schoeps-type circuit - that's most likely what you didn't like about it :P

    Hardware buffer at 512 will introduce latency as well.. I run my hardware at 48. (depends on your setup)

    • @alejandromelo7632
      @alejandromelo7632 8 лет назад

      yeah, with that hardware is very hard have "0" latency on 512 samples

    • @JeroenBaxexm
      @JeroenBaxexm 8 лет назад +3

      +Alejandro Melo No..you cannot have '0' latency @ 512 samples. Has nothing to do with the hardware. I am sure he can run his macbook/focusrite @ 256 or 128 samples with what he is doing (couple of wave recordings).

    • @YHRS

      +Flipsh0t I was thinking the same thing. Crank that ASIO buffer size down until the CPU just starts to have trouble keeping up, then pick the next largest size. If you're happy working in 44.1 kHz sample rate, you can get away with some super small buffers like you've got. Makes for great near-zero latency recording and monitoring!

    • @Flipsh0t
      @Flipsh0t 8 лет назад

      +Your Home Recording Studio indeed or just have a beast of a machine.. that's how i get away with it when using higher sampling rates
