  • For the past year, Sandra, her husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have lived a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead in the snow below their chalet, the police question whether he was murdered or committed suicide. Samuel's suspicious death is presumed murder, and Sandra becomes the main suspect. What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel's death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel's conflicted relationship.

    Sandra’s performance is sheer art. The intention of the film is to confuse you or doubt who did it or what happened and she portrays that with such ease. One minute you think: “OMG look at her, she’s 100% guilty” and a minute later you think: “OMG look at her, poor her, it’s impossible” and all that with just one look.

    • @cine673

    This is hands down one of those movies that are worth to watch if you like mystery/thriller. This movie has an intense feel to it in a different level. No intense music, no jumpscare, no fear to induce. But it was wild for me.

    • @Hexon66
      @Hexon66 Месяц назад

      The whole incident in question was almost *entirely* rooted in intense music! And so predictably inverted were the gender roles, the film lost its uniqueness and became the cliche it had hoped to subvert. And far too many closeups. It's a lost art for filmmakers to be able to show deep emotion without resorting to crowding the face.

    In my erudite opinion, the coveted Oscar for Best Actor ought to be bestowed upon the illustrious canine, Snoop, from the cinematic masterpiece "Anatomy of a Fall." Having viewed the film recently, I found Snoop's performance to be remarkably natural and professional. Even amidst the dire circumstances of ingesting a plethora of aspirin, his portrayal remained authentic, a testament to his consummate skill. I ardently propose his nomination, as his depiction undeniably elevated the film to the realm of true artistic brilliance.

    Good movie. It held your interest. Interesting how they turn everything into a clue while you don't know where it points to. The characterization is the real essence of the movie, with the mother as the cold egotistical father, the father as the self-appointed woe is me mother, the lawyer as the amorous unrequited suitor shmuck, and the kid as just plain creepy. Nobody else got that vibe? And while everyone was focused on the mother whom they did not particularly like, or the father who obviously was tired thanklessly giving to this world, nobody was looking at the blind kid who could do just about anything and eventually poisoned his dog.
    The mother made the world revolve around her, also regarding her partner's death. Selfish, cold, unwavering. When she ceased being the centre of attention she felt the let down of her court victory. The father did need a change to what he had set up, but he was also full of excuses and self pity for his lack of professional action. Violent, manipulative, passive aggressive. If he is a writer, why is he drowning the household with loud music? There was a court appointed guardian, and I don't have a real opinion about her. She saved the dog, assisted in barring the mother from her own home, abandoned the kid quite a bit for the guardian of a blind boy. The only likeable character was the dog. And as with all black sheep, he was duly punished for his noble babysitter duties by being overdosed by his charge. I can't forget the exhausted look of the herder barely managing to walk behind the son, then leaving him to eventually place himself in bed with the mother instead. The father is dead. The mother was on trial. The lawyer and babysitter go home alone, and the dog made his choice where it was safe to rest. I think we all know by this time there was more to the poisoning/suicide story than what the characters had said. It's not what you say. We're watching what you do.

    Damn, the US trailer is really good and breathtaking ! Miles away from the french trailer that is also good but much less tense, more theatrical.

      Yet I think the french trailer is closer to "the spirit" the movie than the US one.

    i think Antoine Reinartz played superb in this movie. Of course Sandra Huller was outstanding. It will be between her and Emma Stone for the Oscar this year

    Anatomy of a Fall is the third film of the 2024 Oscars I haven’t seen until now. It might be draggy, but I’m of the opinion that as long as something can hold my interest, I don’t mind the run time. That being said, this movie was pretty perfect. Every single performance made me forget it was a movie and it felt like I was watching a real court it was that good and it makes you want to put the pieces together on how the husband died.

    The French Alps are magnificent. It could have been a masterpiece with Hitchcock at the helm. Instead, it seems that the creators stood around a cauldron abs threw whatever happened to be laying around into the brew. Ambiguous French films that ask you to create the plot. Snoop is a legend. Woof!
