Hope she wins. Watching her in Anatomy of a Fall is like watching a real person instead of someone acting.
Sandra Hüller or Lily Gladstone are my pick this year.
@@AngelofMusic04Emma Stone will win probably though
I’m going with Lily Gladstone for the win.
Sandra Huler - simply divine actor!
Gladstone will win, no doubt about that. It's the Oscars. But Hüller was amazing.
"Did you watch American movies in Germany?" No, Jimmy. We don't even have electricity yet.
Sooo true; those questions he had were embarassing… for him
Honestly, I think it's still reasonable and even somewhat surprisingly grounded for Americans to not assume that American films are being shown everywhere else or are even the centre of attention. I honestly find it nice, because if one is American and is quite older of course, one would really have to be so far up one's own filmculture's arse to think that their films are just being shown everywhere in the world!
@@laurenceat9136 and also the fact that he didn`t know she was nominated before for toni erdman. It would took a second of research to find this out. It's just disrespectful to her.
I mean, to be fair, before 1990 Eastern Germany didn't have any access to US television or movies.
@@ledasdaughter_ Yes they did. I'm saying that as the child of an entire family that grew up in the GDR. They were definitely receiving Western TV on their set. Some cinemas in the East even played US films. My mum's favourite film is Dirty Dancing which she watched in a cinema IN the GDR. She'd also religiously watch Dallas on the TV IN THE GDR. So claiming they had no access is just plainly wrong.
she's way too smart for this
I agree
You can tell the whole time she’s thinking “why are the questions so silly…”
Noo, I don't think so
Sandra Hüller beim Kimmel....krass.

The German and French are just the greatest when it comes to naturalistic acting. What an astonishing performance.
Yes, definitely. She's a typical theatre gem. Love her
The fact she so flawlessly acts at such a ridiculously high level in this film in both English and French interacting with other characters sometimes speaking different languages at her is an utterly remarkable skill. It's the best I've seen since Christophe Waltz in Inglorious Basterds. She 100% deserves the Oscar.
@@siansphericaWell said. Oh, I hope so that she gets the Oscar, but if she doesn't she won the Cesar award for best actress which I think is still a great feat. I hope her and Justine work on many more things together.
You dont wanna watch german produced cinema, tho. It's terrible.

Narrator: He did not in fact pronounce her name perfectly, but she couldn’t be arsed to get into it.
xD the f, seriously, why would they not find out in the first place how to pronounce their guests' names?
he did it as close as I think you could expect an American to, unless he literally spent an hour practicing it. I've heard much worse.
@@lyannawinter405 do you know the Arnold Schwarzenegger State Farm commercial? I would not say that ALL native German speakers would have such a difficulty to hear the differences of the pronunciation between what Arnold says and all the people around correcting him, but it IS difficult for MOST of us. Similarly to that, Sandra Hüller would know that it really IS difficult for many native English speakers to nail the pronunciation of Umlauts in German and so her name, and even to hear these differences. So, while Jimmy certainly did not pronounce her name perfectly, I think it really is fine for a native English speaker and in this case not really offensive. Being aware of it and making an effort is what counts more than perfection, which he certainly would not be able to achieve. The David Hasselhoff comments were far more disrespectful in my opinion.
For an American, her name is difficult to pronounce. while I've got the ü down now after living in Switzerland since 1977, the "r" at the end is maybe easy to do in NY, Philly or Boston, otherwise, Americans will mispronounce it by enunciating it.

I went to the theatre in Bochum and saw her in a one-woman-play called "Bilder deiner großen Liebe" (Pictures of Your true love). I cherish that moment and I am so happy for her international success.
German actors and TV are getting more international attention nowadays... weiter so!
She's in a production that's a cooperation between Schauspiel Bochum and Schauspiel Leipzig and I work at Schauspiel Leipzig and have watched her perform in Würgeengel several times and only yesterday realised that it's her on stage!

She is so phenomenal in Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest, every spirit that she gave to her characters were all from her heart. Hope she could win the Oscars for sure!!!!!!!!!!
I hope so too, she has to win but the oscars are way too american and political, they don't give awards to europeans, even though she gave THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Emma Stone’s portrayal of Bella Baxter is the best in any category.

What she meant with the garbage was that she had to bring her recyclables to the recycling yard which may have specific drop-off times. German Garbage is a science in itself, and not a very fun one haha, you have to keep track of your garbage calendar to make sure you put the right trash out at the right time :D

In Germany, you can bring bulky or toxic stuff that you can't put in the normal trash to your local recycling center. That's probably what she was doing. Germans recycle religiously.
Yes, also plastic! :)
Wertstoffhof - a very German thing
To me, it sounds like she went to the Altpapiercontainer. 😊
I follow some expats in Germany, and the recycling trash in Germany is a joke that’s in almost 20% of the videos.

You would never - ever - know the power of this woman's talent by this interview. A little shy, unassuming, gentle-spirited. Watch this and then watch the confrontation scene with her husband in Anatomy. Wow!!
Sandra Hüller has always been a great revelation in foreign features for years. She was the lead in Toni Erdman which was nominated and her first Oscars she went to was ironically the first Jimmy hosted. So it's fitting that her first time as a nominee Jimmy is hosting again.
Toni erdmann is her best work
She was excellent as Anneliese Michel.
oh yeah I just remembered I saw Toni Erdmann in an open air cinema 🤯 great movie!
hey fyc superchat guy, it's you!

Reminds me of a young striking Cate Blanchett/ current Carey Mulligan. But Sandra is certainly her OWN amazing actress! What a beautiful woman.

Agree. Something of Cate Blanchett.
Yes, all 3 of these actresses remind me of eachother. Also Sarah Snook
I love Sandra Hüller so much. Glad she is getting more and more recognition for her work.
She was outstanding in Anatomy of a Fall. Maybe the best performance by anybody, male or female in the last 5 years.
For anyone that enjoyed this movie mostly for Hüller’s acting, I beg you to watch her in Toni Erdmann (which she mentions in this interview). One of the great leading lady performances of the last several years.
I thought it was a good movie but not as amazing as so many critics made it out to be. Same with her performance in it.
Her performance in The Zone Of Interest was truly phenomenal!!!!
Hüller's style is difficult to describe. She gives her characters a naturalness that can perhaps be described as realistic, even if the material doesn't necessarily have to be. I was already fascinated by her in Toni Erdmann, and now she has arrived where she needs to be, on Mount Olympus. Anatomy... is also a wonderful movie whose 2.5 hours pass more quickly than you might fear. And in the end, it's a work that will stay with you for a long time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all the Oscars this movie deserves.
I went to a cinema hall after more than a decade just to watch Anatomy of a Fall , so different from American movies and this person was brilliant in her role . She carried the whole movie !
👏👏👏
Toni Erdmann is one of the funniest movies of all time and Sandra Huller is genius in it, everybody should see it. So happy she is being recognized this year for two amazing films.
This is a really poor interview by Jimmy. Badly researched, didn't talk about her films or her extensive work in Germany. Just showed a krass picture of her and then kept mentioning Hasselhoff. It just felt so disrespectful - especially for someone so talented.
Sandra gave the best performance of the year. If Lily doesn't win the Oscar, I hope she does.
well Emma Stone will win
Emma Stone was insanely good as well.
people seem to think just cos Emma won already, she is out of the race, she is expected to win and gave a career best, better performance than she did in La La Land
I’ve yet to see Emma’s performance in Poor Things which is why I didn’t mention her. Best Actress could go to any of these ladies. ❤️

In Bochum, where Mrs. Hüller performs at the theater, as in the entire Ruhr area, people greatly value their direct and brutally honest attitude. This originates from the time when the region primarily relied on coal mining, and the proletarian pride of the miners has been preserved. In other parts of Germany, the theater audience is nicer.
But not in Berlin….. in the last few years it became also kind of normal to leave in the middle of a play…..really sad.
I haven't gone to the Schauspielhaus Bochum in years. When I look at the press fotographies and the descriptions don't seem fun to watch. I hope it gets better again, but I've got the feeling there's another reason than the brutal honesty of the Ruhrgebiet for those people leaving the theatre early. I can't remember them leaving early like 10 years ago. If people left, they would do so during the break.
Am Theater in Meiningen ist das zum Glück nicht üblich
@@mariamustermann6527Arbeitest du selber dort?
Interesting question. Last play I saw at Schauspielhaus Bochum had the audience divided but I saw noone leave. In some Theatres people often leave during breaks. Been ages since I saw someone leave during plays.
Probably depends on the type of audience, as was said already.
Asking myself what happens more often. Would almost say people leaving during breaks, with the other option being more noticeable though.
I tend to stay till the end, too, no matter how much I dislike the play. I find leaving during plays a bit disrespectful as you're basically distracting everyone, and there are always people enjoying certain creative decisions.

I didn't know who she was but she caught my attention sitting in the audience. Her reactions to everything that was going on was very real and spontaneous. She stood out.
This is WILD! I once shared like 15 seconds of screen time with Sandra on a little flick called Brownian Movement back in 2010 or 11. Now she's on Kimmel and nominated for an Oscar for a leading role. Such an incredible actress + humble and sweet! Bravo 👏👏👏

She has been my favourite actor for many years and it’s quite strange to see her become so popular in Hollywood😂 she deserves the recognition so much 👏 🥲🥰
This is a pretty damn good year for the Best Actress category. I'm conflicted between Stone, Gladstone and Huller here. My vote still slightly goes to Stone, I would be thrilled if Huller was a surprise winner. Loved, loved, loved the film and her performance.
Sandra was absolutely phenomenal in The Zone of Interest! I hope she gets the nod for the Oscar! ❤️
The interview went just fine, but I feel these hosts need to level up their game when inviting more esteemed members of the performing arts fraternity, or folks from different cultures/languages, and attempt to engage in deeper discussions on their prior work.
Clearly an artist as immensely talented as Sandra Hüller could handle better and more complex questions than "Did you have fun?".
Much love and respect to both of Sandra's films by the way. 👍🏼
Agree in every point. Like to add… it’s the ONE OLD (white man) Letterman SHOW CONCEPT and Kimmel’s (fitting) “I don’t need to invest time nprepare properly but rely on my supercharismatic power” perspective… time to find a new accurate place for you, mister. One of the most talented actors I have ever seen. Nothing she does ever seems like she is acting.
She grow up in eastgermany, they didn t learn english in school like in the west, great english! Love her down to earth personality.
Contrary to popular belief, you did indeed get to learn English in school in East Germany, but not as the first foreign language (which was always Russian for political reasons) starting in 5th grade. In 7th grade you then chose a second foreign language, which -- especially in the late 1980s -- was usually English (but you could also pick Latin, French, or Spanish if offered).
@@berlindude75 you are right, the first foreign language in East German schools was Russian starting with 5th grade . Though with second foreign language starting at 7th grade there was only a choice in theory: there was a shortage on teachers for those western languge and in smaller school there was just one and you had to take his or her class or change the school. And when this one just tought French you had to take French.
my grandpa was a professor of american literature in the gdr and always fought to keep training english teachers, the government tried to get rid of his whole university branch for a long time and it was a constant struggle. but he ended up being right about the importance of learning english, and most of my english teachers in school studied with him.
She was 11 when theBerlin wall fell, she got most of her education in unified school system.
I love her and am so glad she's getting recognized this year.

First saw her on ‘Toni Erdemann’ and am not surprised. A strong strong year for her no doubt.
Knowing Her from “Tony Erdmann“!
Great! Not typical, she's a special one! Also here in Germany! Greet's
Jimmy, I'm usually a fan, but these questions are a farce! Hüller is calm and intelligent enough to handle it, because American viewers don't know her yet and any honest response to those ridiculous questions would've ended in her getting labelled a humorless diva or sth.
FYI: Hüller gave a considerably better performance than Emma Stone, just like Isabelle Hupert gave a far better performance than Emma Stone in 2017. But Stone is gonna get it anyway, because the Academy is a very exclusive club presenting each-other with golden status. Anyway, keep up the amazing work, Sandra! You're remarkable!
Why the need to put others down? Hüller is an extraordinary actress, and yet Emma Stone was absolutely phenomenal in Poor Things. You might favour Hüller but that's ultimately a subjective choice at this level IMHO
@@lovez2eat It's not about putting others down, especially since I watched Poor Things and was very impressed. I don't know if Emma was truly "extraordinary", but I know some like to call it that whenever somebody plays a mentally challenged human being, let alone in combination with nudity and "foreign" accents. Regardless, it's not about that either. My criticism was clearly directed at the Academy's voting policy! It's an exclusive elite club of millionaires presenting each-other with shiny statues, that doesn't often recognize true, raw talent outside that club (such as Sandra or Lily, who, IMHO, both delivered considerably stronger performances). I'm not saying Emma Stone's second Oscar wasn't deserved, because that would be unfair, but it was a more obvious choice and a more hip popularity vote.
