Same here! I know the movie is all about Nora and Hae Sung’s relationship/missed connection, but I felt that that line from Arthur was one of the most romantic things I’d ever heard.
That sounds like really bad writing. As if a white worshipping Asian woman wrote it. Oh look, the writer is an Asian female married to a White guy, I'm right.
And then after Nora told him she loved him and his response of "it's just that sometimes I find that hard to believe" That killed me. Many viewers, myself included, found ourselves rooting for Nora and Hae to end up together yet feeling very sad for Arthur aswell. None of it it's his fault. Also his exhale and sad expression when first meeting Hae and seeing him standing next to his wife Nora.
"Even simply brushing clothes with someone is fate" (옷깃만 스쳐도 인연) is an old Korean proverb that means every interaction between you and another person-even a stranger on the street-is never an accident, but rather the elaborate result of your past lives and theirs intertwining to make that momentary interaction happen. And if even the most seemingly trivial of interactions are the result of elaborate workings of fate (인연), then something as significant as meeting the love of your life is the result of 8000 겁 of fate. This is a commonly known Buddhist teaching. 겁 (Gup) is a measurement of time. Imagine a massive boulder, and imagine that a single raindrop falls on that boulder once every 1000 years. The amount of time it would take for the boulder to finally crack from the water droplets is 1 겁. A single 겁 is an unfathomably long period of time, so 8000 겁 is something that's hard to even attempt to imagine. The saying goes that for every married couple, there's at least 8000 겁 of 인연 (fate) from their past lives that led them to each other.
Makes a night in a club, a music festival, a crammed subway, a sports game, so much more interesting now with those such dogmatic ideas... Literally brushed by 1000 strangers over a 2 day music festival, wow, sure have lived a long time with the same recycled souls...
I believe that In-Yun has its roots in Chinese, specifically in the words "因缘" or "姻缘," both of which mean fate. The latter emphasizes its romantic aspect, and they are both pronounced "Inn-Yuen." I always love the similarities among Eastern Asian cultures. There is a concept in Chinese similar to what you mentioned that states, "前世五百次的回眸,换来今世的一次擦肩而过," which means "Glimpse but once, a past life's glance. Five hundred times, to find the chance, To cross paths with one from before, In this life, and forevermore.". Or "十世修来同船渡,百世修来共枕眠", meaning "Ten lives of good deeds earn a shared boat ride. A hundred more, a shared pillow at your side.".
I love what u wrote. Me tho (laughing) who doesnt have a car; (tho I can drive) always commuting, rubbing elbows, clothing with the masses esp. during rush hours. Now this is gonna make me analize, more. But I love observing people & guesing what their lives like.
this movie def isn't realistic. It's like porn for women. Of course her childhood friend happens to be a really hot guy while she's totally average looking and uninteresting. Why didn't they cast a really average looking korean guy if this is about chemistry and deep intimacy? Celine Song basically turning it into a romance novel for women, korean style.
Hey, I'm from South Korea and I can relate to this trailer... Almost same thing happened to me recently. Around 17 years ago, when I was in elementary, I met a boy whose name was "Present" in Korean. He was my first crush. I liked his shiny round eyes, a cute wide smile, and white teeth. Sadly, I had to move to another school a year later. 18 years passed, and we met each other this January. We have become both 25. He studies in medical school and I just came back to S.Korea after obtaining a diploma from another country. I didn't know he had been reading all my posts on my public diary for a few months when I was back in France. Though he knew the one who was writing the diary was me, he never said "Hi" to me. Then one day I deleted a link that had access to my public diary, so he missed a chance to let me know. A few years passed, and he noticed one comment in the comment section of one youtube video which showed a whole view of our hometown where we used to play together. That comment was, surprisingly, written by me. He noticed that it was me because I wrote down some of my personal background in the comment. He already knew I was living in France and I had a very special surname that stood out. So we met each other once again through RUclips and we talked hours and hours on social media. We finally met each other this January and we had a nice Italian lunch, drank coffee and talked for hours and hours... I think we had a nice time. We are not together tho. Maybe it was because of a bad timing or maybe because I've been having some issues with my mentality and physical health or maybe because he was in senior year at medical school...or maybe because I seemed such a deep person to him. BUT the important thing is, I have a feeling that we are still connected and one day we will see each other once again at right time and a right place. Magic happens to those who believe in magic :) Anyways, thank you for reading my magical story💛
I just finished watching this movie, and it made me bawl my eyes out like a baby. Not because it counted on big, dramatic scenes but on all those little in-betweens that we all have in our lives, those moments where we are out of words, those in which we want to say something but can't and those where we say something different from what we want to. It was so emotionally charged, it made me feel deeply for- and with them and most of all, it left me thinking and feeling and also aching.
Well, someone just NAILED the casting for this one. 2 minutes, 24 seconds and the chemistry is rock solid. No need for over the top dialogue when you have such amazing body language. Soundtrack puts the nail in 'emotional' coffin. Can't wait
Oh I love how the movie basically describes how you can still hold that love, reminiscing all the good memories, but you both know that you don't need to be together at the end anyway. Because those beautiful memories and feelings are only enough to keep you satisfied and happy with what you two have now.
@@buxtehude6078 love isn’t exclusive to one person and there are many types of love. You can love and cherish the memories and moments you have with a person at the same time as choosing to live a loving life with someone else. @@Percules0001 You can love more than one person in your life. Love itself can also change overtime, such as from romantic to platonic. Then again, relationships are different for everyone and only the people in said relationship know how it’s currently going and how it’ll move forward. I feel like I’m stating the obvious, but just because someone hangs out with someone they aren’t dating doesn’t mean that they’re cheating. @@redred7702i haven’t seen the movie but that scene where he say “am not going stop you seeing him” kinda says more in the mood and the silence, for me he clearly isn’t comfortable with it as he states the details of flight duration and the fact he has come just to see her” no man in the right mind would be comfortable with that, especially as it appears she has already been discussing how she felt about him when they where younger, i suppose the question is.. if the roles where reversed how would it feel. From my perspective though who live in the past emotionally are not 100% living in there present ie with there current partner. Hence the wondering thoughts etc. And we could say they should trust etc etc, but the question is would you want to put your partner through that? Regardless! The act maybe innocent but choice could cast a huge doubt over your current future, and some couple never recover from that. From the trailer only she should not have met up 🤣!!! Reconnected with my love after almost 10 years apart this past fall in NYC (I’m thirty). Coincidentally, the first time we saw each other we also ended up in Brooklyn and took pictures in the same places they are taking pictures in the movie with the bridge in the background. Circumstances took her across the world. I always knew she was the one and on starry nights, red sunsets, during milestones and in silent moments of reflection, I would wonder if I was still in her heart as she was in mine. When we finally met up, I remember gazing into her eyes for hours searching for answers, we said so much to each other without saying a single word. Turns out, I have been in her heart as much as she’s been in mine. 3 months later this past January I travelled to meet her family. We’re hoping to get engaged mid year and planning a wedding for early 2024. Timing is everything and in our hearts and in our core, we always hoped to be each others forevers. Update: We got married in Feb 2024

The quick cut at the end showing them as kids was sublime. Gave me chills. There they are once again the two kids standing together but also apart on their divergent paths. The memory now in nighttime mirroring their present was beautiful visual poetry. A realization that their feelings for each other can only exist in a time and space both real and imaginary. Kudos to Celine Song.
@@mr.patrickaloysiusbartholo4727 Pffff what are you talking about? The movie was outstanding and brilliantly directed. I doubt you could direct something 1% as good with an unlimited budget.
You’re right. I more than likely could not. I’m not a professional director. Nor am I claiming to be. (Though thanks the compliment… 🤔) It’s a first time effort from a rookie director and screenwriter and it shows. It feels more like a second draft than a final copy. I’m certain this person will improve with time I hope.

Romance movies are not generally something I seek out, but it looks like the themes in this go deeper than the standard romance film. I am excited to see this!
@Buxtehude they'll prolly make the american husband bad to justify the affair, and say, yeah, she deserve the childhood friend better or something, because " they're destined for each other. "
@@LucyFerr000 Not at all. The film and the characters are much more nuanced than a 2 minute trailer could show you. It's a romance film where nobody is right or wrong. Because there are no right or wrong feelings.Just wait and see.
Many people in the cinema wiped their tears (me too). The emotion of love literally skyrockets at the very end of the film. Although I live in Slovenia, which is on the other side of the world, the emotion of love, and the language between two hearts, seems to be exactly the same, everywhere.
Saw this yesterday and don’t think I’ve ever been so moved by a film, I started crying from the very first scene and didn’t stop until 15 mins after it ended. but it’s not because it’s dreary or depressing, just so heartfelt and deeply relatable. Such a masterpiece of a film my heart aches remembering it.

Teo Yoo with his emotional eyes, charming smile above all this man's voice, OMG! he is the perfect cast for that role . All the actors portraying their roles so realistic, definitely would need boxes of tissues for sure to watch this :(
When she exhaled at the end and broke down it was the perfect climax of all the energy, tension, hope, love, frustration that she built up. I somehow felt it built up with the audience too
0:50 this scene definitely got me, that first meeting was so strong. The chemistry is already perfect, i feel like I felt all of their emotions inside me. I'm ready to cry, the vibe is so real, it's already painful. This movie will definitely leave a beautiful scar.

I kind of felt like she and the American had a much more natural chemistry, she seemed oddly detached from the Korean guy while still feeling nostalgic or sort of revelling in the memory of their shared past.🤔
@@lindisamathabela3192 chemistry is expressed differently linguistically and culturally. You have to examine meta behaviours across a longer time period to see how loving an East Asian or South Asian couple is imo. Not just single interactions, like in the west lol
This was a really good movie. I thought about it for days after watching it. The feeling she had at the end hit close to home. Good job once again, A24.
Wow. Anyone who has experienced a strong, deep mutual romantic connection with someone, but who knew that it could never be for whatever reason, will instantly connect with this trailer, and I presume the film.
Every husband's worst fear is finding out you were just....easy to live with and her heart was elsewhere. Her smiles that never touched her eyes, the lack of conversation on date night, or missing quiet shared moments. The feeling of being alone when she's right next to you...let it go. Let her go. She's too afraid to say it herself. She doesn't have to heart...but maybe you don't either.
Hah Jesus... This comment seriously packed a punch. I'm still nursing an emotional bruise from what a terrifically painful concept that is, and how deftly it was articulated. While I wanted to nod and move on, that idea that you're more or less 'easy to live with' really stopped me in my tracks and made me think. Well regardless, cheers! That was beautifully worded
😢😢😢 love is always a choice. It's not that he is easy to live with ... but love can be a steady commitment ❤. It literally brought me to tears. Poetic in a way gently telling a story that channels through 30+ years of life. It’s a friendship built upon the trust and transcends into a caring love. Not about control nor any resentments! Courage at last that puts two of them spiritually connected but also disconnected with nothing but best wishes!

Saw this last night as the opening film for the Seattle International Film Festival and was just utterly blown away. Such an absolutely beautiful film-I'm so impressed by how Celine Song is completely unafraid to allow a moment to just...breathe. And how her characters convey so much with just a look or a gesture, negating the need for dialogue. Adding to the overall feel of the film was the score, which had an ethereal quality that made it feel as if you were watching the story unfold as if in a dream. Just stunning. If you have a chance to go see this film, I highly recommend it!
@@maxbates91 More...bittersweet, than sad, I think. Yes, there was a certain measure of sadness, but not because of how things worked out between them, necessarily- more because I think it was for the first time, Nora truly accepted what her ambition had both cost and given her. Also bittersweet because I think both of them were saying a definitive goodbye to their childhoods.
Can't wait to watch it. I've heard that it was the best movie viewed at Sundance. The concept is gripping. Chills would go through my spine at the thought of meeting my crush 20 years later. So beautiful characters.

@Samuel Stewart It's like reminiscing the good times, your childhood, the "what ifs." Basing on the trailer, it's going to be bittersweet, since I feel like both characters won't act on their feelings since the girl is married already. It reminds me of the "Alone/Together" movie but better.
Update: The most intimate, heartwarming, and real film I've ever seen. Both funny and bittersweet, the writing and cast make you smile and cry about the nuances of love in practice. Went to watch it last weekend on opening, and its been on my mind since. Celine Song, Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro are the perfect combination of people for depicting how circumstances so often out of our hands can both bring together and break apart the most perfect combinations of people.
An honest question, beacause I'm really interested in your opinion: Do you watch or have you seen a lot of non-mainstream films? I consider this mainstream in the sense that it's world-famous, is shown everywhere, etc. Is this "just" better than all Hollywood films, or...?
This film was beautiful and honest. I love this Korean proverb and the idea that we are all connected somehow. It’s making me appreciate all the short interactions that I have everyday. It’s given them a new beauty. Can’t wait to watch this movie again someday.
I saw this film today with my wife. It was beautifully done. The story rang so true, the love, pain, fear and hopes of the main characters were so we'll portrayed by the actors, the camera and the wisdom of the writer/director. The subject matter, experienced by so many, was very well expressed. Congratulations! And, Thank You.
I just saw this film this past weekend, and I cried like a baby. It definitely tugged at my heart strings because I have been through something similar. The movie is slow, but with a purpose. It’s not slow as in boring. It’s as if you’re taking in every single emotion. You feel the desire, the anxiousness, the warmth, the comfort and the pain of both characters. Absolutely heartfelt, a story many could relate to, as I do 😢myself. I believe that there is a soulmate that you connect with out there. And if you can’t be with that soulmate, you will never find true love again. Just a brilliant film.
Wait so she doesn’t feel that her husband is her soul mate? Ah man I wanted to watch it but my ex left me for a childhood friend after we had 11 years together because he was her “soul mate”. We worked well together too but she said she needed him even though she loved both of us. I feel this movie would open too many old scars still healing.
From Love to Hate You - to this movie that really looks promising, I love that Teo Yoo is gaining mainstream traction! And he's not doing it by playing cliche movies/dramas, but he's taking on projects that are so unique and beautiful! Tbh I only got to know him from his very female empowering drama, Love to Hate You but seeing this trailer, I think I'm gonna keep an eye out for him from now on. I'm a new fan!
I just finished it and... I feel so empty inside, they legit left me staring at the screen for like 5 minutes straight still hoping for something even if the show had already finished. Nevertheless, the movie is way too realistic I loved the details of everything, their silence, body language, their stares, and the ending was what would've happened in reality even if it was sad really. It's such a 10/10 movie
I just got teary watching the trailer. Maybe because I left Korea 40 years ago. I was just a kid then. I didn’t have childhood crush either but there is something about this trailer that is so subtle and delicate that touches me straight to the core. I can’t wait to see it on cinema.
When Hae Sung called Nora one last time, he also knew that that was the last time he was going to see her. The flashback made me cry instantly. You could see that both of them wanted to go back in time - to be 12 year olds again. The ending was really sad and I wish it ended differently.
Let me guess - the 12 years of being happy and married wasn’t enough. You were rooting for the divorce and Nora to move back to Korea?? That would be fd up to the obviously good husband Arthur. Tbh I won’t lie I was thinking Nora should have left Arthur too. But they would have had to make Arthur an asshole for that plot to happen
Greta Lee’s career has been bubbling just beneath the surface for well over a decade at this point and I’ve enjoyed everything she’s touched. I hope we get a lot more of her going forward because she is so damn versatile! Looks like a great film and she looks fantastic! I look forward to seeing it.
인연 is one of my favorite words in Korean, and I loved hearing it often when I was in Korea. It speaks to the depth of how Koreans think of relationships and the word comes from Buddhist teachings. It is nice to see a film that will speak on that. I am also looking forward to the Korean-American mix of thinking in this film. I just hope she does not leave her husband. I just hope they meet each other as friends and it is a good memory but I hope she is faithful. I am looking forward to seeing this film.

Once in a lifetime type of movies. I just watched it a few hours ago this movie has me so emotional. I always wonder what could have been with my ex if the circumstances were different. I saw this at TIFF. One of the most beautiful and touching movies I have ever seen. It's poetry in motion and I was so moved by how the characters conveyed so much without saying too much. This will remain a lifetime favourite film of mine 🥰
An emotionally intelligent film. Throughout the movie I couldn't help but try to understand the underpinning theme of the story. One thing is true though, that it is deeply human to find, at some point in our lives, pragmatism and the ideals of our youth, warring within us. The two are in desperate conflict with each other. Each having their own set of goals, determined to declare victory over the other. Past Lives explores this duality through a very tender and wonderfully aesthetic screenplay. The film's score was amazingly unique as well. Every piece seemed to fit perfectly with the sentiment of the scene. I particularly enjoyed the constant nonverbal communication displayed between the two main characters. There were these frequent and silent moments shared between them that seemed to force the audience into those moments with them. To feel every passing second of them. Great film!
This is going to wreck me and heal me at the same time. So many buried emotions just resurfaced from the trailer alone. I'm so excited about this movie and Celine Song's future!
My emotion got hit again and again, I tried to hold it in throughout the movie but cried my eyes out at the very end after hearing what Haesung said to Nayoung, I said something like that to someone before only to realize later that it was just a foolish wish. We always think about "What could/would have been if that day I did this instead of that? Would we have been together?" but what good does it do when nothing can be changed now
Worked this young lady for a 12 hr shift on an ambulance and we had a connection that I've never experienced. I looked for her for 6 months after that shift and one day I walked into work and there she was. Our relationship lasted almost a year and just like that it was over. Many years later I've come to realize she was the one that got away. Just like in the movie, she is married now and lives in the Northeastern part of the states. I miss her dearly and the love we had. I often wonder if I will ever find someone that I will love on that level again. Perhaps in my next life I will meet the love of my life again. Maybe then it will be a different outcome.
"Just because we dont talk, doesn't mean I don't think about you. I distance myself from you because I know I can't have you." This ones gonna hurt, I can already see it.
SPOILER ALERT: such a beautiful film, the whole film I cringed when I thought she would cheat on him. But when it actually took the mature route, and left them two as friends on different paths, I cried, I cried hard. The film didn't pretend to be a fantasy, it was a hard bitter truth that life holds for all of us.
Yes, I thought I was the only one, especially in the scene in which both Nora and Hae are waiting for his Uber. They both looked nervous, started facing each other and almost leaned into each other, but then his ride arrived. This movie was everything I expected it to be. Those long takes and shot selection paired with the performances really brings the film alive. I like how simple and straight to the point the writing is (I say this because it’s similar to something I’ve experienced before. It may have not been simple and straightforward for everyone) while also having some thought provoking moments at the same time. Best movie I’ve seen in a while for sure
I watched this tonight. Very emotional, beautiful and poetic. Teo Yoo gave an absolutely SHOW with his expressions of love while looking at Nora. It made me think of the movie Supernova and the pure expressions of love on the 2 main character's faces ( Colin Firth & Stanley Tucci)... So touching, so relatable.
I don’t usually watch romance movies but dude- this looks absolutely stellar. I love A24 and their horror but this just seems like a beautifully haunting film. I’ll be anticipating this one
The K-guy is so annoying because he did not make moves or confess feelings when he was still single. Then he appears back to her life seemingly wanting to rekindle the flame, when he did not light up any in the first place. There was no backstory as to why he was not able to profess his love. Both of their parents got along well, or is this K-culture I'm missing, that they're not vocal.
I just saw this movie last night!!! It was so, so good. I think it will join a handful of movies that I want to watch each year. Even the trailer, which I saw months ago, stayed with me. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to see it and loved it. The cast, the camerawork, New York, the script.
i felt the same . when i saw the trailer months ago it stuck with me. finally saw it today and i’ve never been so moved by a film. i’ll be seeing it again
This is such a beautifully edited trailer. What a tender, compelling, sweet story. It feels so good to see something so tender and to have it move me too my core. The abrasiveness of life has been suffocating lately. The music, the storyline, and the vulnerability of the characters has me soaked in tears and so relieved to not be bombarded by crass vulgarity and violence. I want to find the fucking pause button on life and keep it solely on these tender, quiet, lovely, joyful, awe inspiring moments. I also appreciate when films pay such beautiful homage to cultural philosophies/wisdom such as this one regarding past lives and its poetic interpretation of our daily life.
Wow, I must say the movie was absolutely great! Even though I typically don't like romance films, I strongly believe that today's cinema truly necessitates a movie like this one: simple with deep emotions and without exaggeration. The carefully crafted scenes, visually stunning shots, and music all meld together. The movie completely surrounds you, carrying you away like a calm stream. When a trailer makes you cry, you know artists were involved in the making of something that will resonate with everyone's heart no matter what your heart went through.
I just watched this movie, and I did it twice. I felt it so profoundly, and I found it hard at the same time. The movie said so much with so little. All the dialogue was kept to a minimum, but necessary. 'Love' was submerged in the oceans of life filled with ambition and the pursuit of company. Here I am, bawling my eyes out, celebrating the visual poetry of real life and how human relations are found and lost and perhaps stayed apart.
Reminds me of the sequence in Yi Yi when the father meets up with a childhood friend and they seamlessly go through these ups and downs in what could have been. This looks beautiful!
I have watched this trailer more than I'll admit because the feelings it evokes in me are so visceral and nostalgic. "What if" lives within all of us. Beautiful. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I grew up in Japan and I had a childhood friend just like this movie! Our parents used to joke that we'll be a married couple when we grow up. Then we moved to California where I'd spend a majority of my adult life. Sometimes when I look at my old photo albums and see our pictures together, I do wonder how he's doing or whether or not he still remembers me
Just saw this at the Berlin Film Festival and it was amazing! It really should win the competition, nothing else I saw came close. Such a beautiful adult drama. The husband character was my favourite, he dealt with the situation in such an empathetic way.
The movie made me feel things I wasn't ready for. I finished watching this at 2.05 am yesterday. Cried the whole night. Phenomenal direction, painfully beautiful ❤️
Why am I crying and this is only the trailer? WTF The shots, the light, the colors, the cinematography, the dialogues oh my, oh my, oh my I need this film now! I want to suffer ! Give it to me
One of the greatest trailers ever made for the best movie of the year. Unbelievable how good a trailer can be in showing how good a movie is. A masterpiece, it demands to be seen.
Loved the trailer. There’s an Indian Tamil movie called ‘96’ and ‘past lives’ gives off a similar vibe but in its own cultural interpretation. 96 made me bawl my eyes out and I get a hint that past lives would make me do the same. Looking forward to watch this movie, good luck to the team!
I was repressing so much emotion today and watching this has opened the floodgates at last... so beautiful in a way that breaks your heart endlessly and restores your faith endlessly. If anyone could recommend any films on a similar wavelength, I'd love to hear it!
Have you seen any of the "Before" movies of Richard Linklater? What about "Already Tomorrow in Hongkong" starring Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg. There's also "Before We Go" directed by Chris Evans. One thing I can say though is that the last 2 films I mentioned lack the depth of the "Before" movies. I have a feeling that you will also enjoy watching "Modern Love", it's an Amazon Prime TV series that's a compilation of multiple short films of different directors. Stories that focus on relationships, romance and heartbreak.
Wonderful film, fantastic and unbelievably natural performances with superb non-verbal acting too. Poignant and beautifully understated. The simple stories are often the ones best told
If you’re contemplating whether you should watch it, go do it! Just watched this in the cinema here in Melbourne. I was crying by the end! I could relate to something similar that happened in my life, but such a powerful film. Thank you for this masterpiece ❤
my heart was fluttering but in a scared way because I can tell this movie will make me cry. So happy to see Teo in more great films...so excited to watch this! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
“You make my world so much bigger, and I’m wondeing if I do the same for you.”
One of my fav. quote in the movie.
Also his exhale and sad expression when first meeting Hae and seeing him standing next to his wife Nora.

i am here too.
i love Arthur and that comments on movie
Thank you so much for your explanation! It just gave me goosebumps :’)

Magic happens to those who believe in magic :)
Anyways, thank you for reading my magical story💛
Oh dear, this has me clutching my chest and tearing up at my desk! 🥺

Can't wait
Just felt in love with Teo Yoo in "love to hate you"
Glad, to see him again 💖
@Sasha I believe. But it's hard
I loved the little smile between them at the end! Amazing

The music is by two members of acclaimed indie band Grizzly Bear. It is gonna be a memorable soundtrack, no question
I think it’s sad that if you hold a love for someone who’s played an important part in your life would mean that you don’t actually love the person who’s important to you now and have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. Besides jazmone is right that this was more about closure from a time of her life than her actually thinking of cheating
Beautifully said
@@jazmone7777 Nah I've seen the movie lmao for some reason women have a preference to movies that romanticize cheating
@@Percules0001 You can love more than one person in your life. Love itself can also change overtime, such as from romantic to platonic. There’s a reason why some people are still best friends with people they’ve dated before, long after breaking up. Then again, relationships are different for everyone and only the people in said relationship know how it’s currently going and how it’ll move forward. I feel like I’m stating the obvious, but just because someone hangs out with someone they aren’t dating doesn’t mean that they’re cheating. I haven’t seen the movie yet, and there’s a non-zero chance I’m wrong and you’re completely right, but idk man I could absolutely be misinterpreting, but something about your comment just seems way off. I do get what you’re saying though, but know in real life it’s very much circumstantial.
That bond looked like it never left, and is going to cause unnecessary drama 😅!!
But I haven’t seen it yet but lets see ☺️
Reconnected with my love after almost 10 years apart this past fall in NYC (I’m thirty).

That is why humans are dumb. We know that the woman love her childhood friend deeply with all the good and sweet memories and guess what? She end up marrying another guy. This also happens in real life. The human race should go into extinction because this does not even make sense and end up hurting other people's feeling. Yeah, I'm talking about that white guy
It's the realization years later that you two never meant to hurt or alienate one another, it just happened that way. Closure that develops in itself.
It was very lazy editing and a too safe choice for the director. Lots of it was done paint by the numbers. This film had so much potential…
Many people in the cinema wiped their tears (me too). The emotion of love literally skyrockets at the very end of the film. Although I live in Slovenia, which is on the other side of the world, the emotion of love, and the language between two hearts, seems to be exactly the same, everywhere.

@@joesimmons7195 I highly doubt it was only because he was her soulmate. You weren’t fucking her right dog.
Thank you! I was wondering why his face was so familiar! I loved him in Love to Hate You and this movie looks good too.
Watch him in the drama Money Games. He's a great actor.
@@minkki5656 thanks! Will check that out 😄
This looks great, but why does every romance have some guy that gets dumped so the beautiful couple can get together in the end?
He made an impression in Chocolate. And much more in Money Game.
I am so excited for this! Past Lives was everyone's favourite movie at The Sundance
Ariana, what are you doing here?
Another perfect film from A24 is never a bad thing!
It tore me to pieces. That walk back home was brutal
lady cheated and her husband’s a cuck. this is what u women supported. amazing.
very sad tragic ending for hae sung the film did not do justice for him
Let me guess - the 12 years of being happy and married wasn’t enough. You were rooting for the divorce and Nora to move back to Korea?? That would be fd up to the obviously good husband Arthur. Tbh I won’t lie I was thinking Nora should have left Arthur too. But they would have had to make Arthur an asshole for that plot to happen
bad ending, the movie follows the director phantasy with a white man
Greta Lee’s career has been bubbling just beneath the surface for well over a decade at this point and I’ve enjoyed everything she’s touched. I hope we get a lot more of her going forward because she is so damn versatile! Looks like a great film and she looks fantastic! I look forward to seeing it.
She was brilliant in her role in The Morning Show!
But is is literally Chinese. It pronounced the same.
@@jennifer870607 I wonder if Italians do the same thing with English words since they’re all based in Latin. Wait, they don’t, they don’t really care. Seems like it’s only Chinese that act like they have ownership of all things asian culture, EXCEPT for anything that’s bad
@@jennifer870607 But... is Buddhism Chinese?
If they talked about the Red String of Fate, maybe you'd have some grounds to claim but I find it difficult to see where you can claim that Buddhism originated in China.
@@RaeneTheFaerie Buddhism originated in India. The Buddha was born in Nepal. It’s distinctly a Dharmic philosophy. But Indian philosophy has had a distinct and intense influence on China for 2500 years (potentially more), and in that time Chinese forms of Buddhism have branched out, adding their own flavor

Once in a lifetime type of movies. I just watched it a few hours ago this movie has me so emotional. I always wonder what could have been with my ex if the circumstances were different. This is one of the best movies in the past 30 years. Celine and the cast did an amazing job. They deserve best director, best actor and best actress.
Man I should've seen it in the cinema. Can imagine how good it must have been. Just watched it now and it's had such a profound effect on me.
Great film!
This studio is doing amazing work breathing life back into cinema for this genre of movie and story telling. I hope it plays at my Regal theater.
This is going to wreck me and heal me at the same time. So many buried emotions just resurfaced from the trailer alone. I'm so excited about this movie and Celine Song's future!
Wreck me and heal me, that's so beautiful🥹
Lol ok
My emotion got hit again and again, I tried to hold it in throughout the movie but cried my eyes out at the very end after hearing what Haesung said to Nayoung, I said something like that to someone before only to realize later that it was just a foolish wish. We always think about "What could/would have been if that day I did this instead of that? Would we have been together?" but what good does it do when nothing can be changed now
This trailer alone gave me chills. Only watching 2 min and I already felt myself enter their world. Can’t wait to see this film in its entirety! 😭
Same. Started tearing up almost straight away
Let me guess, you are White and she is Asian.
"Just because we dont talk, doesn't mean I don't think about you. I distance myself from you because I know I can't have you."
This ones gonna hurt, I can already see it.
Where is this quote from?
SPOILER ALERT:
such a beautiful film, the whole film I cringed when I thought she would cheat on him.
Made me wonder what would have happened if the uber would of taken five more minutes to arrive...

All of these comments are so beautifully written, just shows how real this story can be for anyone. June 2nd can't come fast enough.
I just watched this film and it’s better than I expected it to be. Touches on something that most of us have experienced once in our life.
It wrecked me 😭

@@lexw4732 I'm glad you loved it, too
This is such a beautifully edited trailer.
Personally, it left me completely astonished.
can't you just visit her instead of moving?
A cinematic masterpiece, defined by its simplicity and elegance. With a remarkable cast and a beautifully crafted narrative, the film delves into the depths of emotion, evoking a poignant sense of nostalgia for bygone love stories. This heartfelt journey through time will resonate with viewers, leaving them deeply moved by its portrayal of enduring romance and the echoes of the past.

Goosebumps and crying just with the trailer. I can't wait to purchase a ticket to see Tae Yoo, Greta Lee, and this amazing cast!.
This is the first trailer to ever make me cry. I’m gonna be sobbing during the actual movie
I saw Past Lives at a film festival. It's an absolutely beautiful love story and I adored it! Everything for the acting to the cinematography to the writing is superb. Would be shocked if this isn't nominated for an Oscar. :)
As a side note: A24 is killing it and give me hope for filmmaking. They back such brilliant, ground-breaking films.
Love story? She is already married, right? 😢
@@MichaelCTruthIt’s a movie about the grey area of love, it’s very thoughtfully done. The way you ask that question sounds like you’re thinking about love in black and white.
@@samferguson3677 Is it in English?
@@MichaelCTruth it’s both in English and Korean but I say don’t watch it’s boring slow no dept no chemistry no anything
@@MichaelCTruthIt's not a love story in a traditional sense. There's no love triangle. :) It explores that particular bittersweet love you have for a best friend who you've fallen out of touch with. Or a romance that might've been, if only the circumstances were different. It's how you feel about those people you cared so much about that have slipped away, just because life took you on different paths. And you mourn and cherish those relationships in a sense and also wonder what might've been if things had been different. Would you still be best friends? Would you have ever fallen in love?
Was going to say this felt so familiar. Though _Before Sunset_ originally came to mind, you're right it feels so much like _Yi Yi_
This is intense. The spoken words alone... this will be painful but worth every tear. Teo Yoo you deserve your flowers.
I am going to repeat your words cause this phrase is so beautiful. Please let me steal it. I cant bear.
Greta Lee is such a good actress, I’m so glad she’s starting in what looks like a beautiful movie!
I have watched this trailer more than I'll admit because the feelings it evokes in me are so visceral and nostalgic. "What if" lives within all of us. Beautiful. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The way they edit their trailers is a form of art in itself…

Have you seen any of the "Before" movies of Richard Linklater? What about "Already Tomorrow in Hongkong" starring Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg. There's also "Before We Go" directed by Chris Evans. One thing I can say though is that the last 2 films I mentioned lack the depth of the "Before" movies. I have a feeling that you will also enjoy watching "Modern Love", it's an Amazon Prime TV series that's a compilation of multiple short films of different directors. Stories that focus on relationships, romance and heartbreak.
