I'm 19 and was never taught Long Division in 4th grade, we were given a newer alternative that probably doesn't work with polynomials so now that I'm in pre-calc in college it's really come around and bit me in the ass.
I remember watching your videos my sophomore year of high school, and you were a much better teacher than my actual teacher. I would cry because I couldn't do my homework and would do badly on tests, so when I found these videos, I was able to do a lot better! I'm now a senior and I'm taking AP Calc AB and every so often I forget how to do long division since we don't use it often, and I just come back to your videos. Thanks for being awesome. I'll probably still watch them in college!
i paused the video and solved it before him and it turned out true because i watched the first video......he made long division very easy for me damn ! thank u sir ~
You've helped me understand this far better in 5 minutes than my instructor could in 15 minutes before moving on to the next section in class. I don't do very well with algebra to begin with, and sometimes things just aren't explained in a way that clicks for me, and it doesn't help if they're rushing. Thank you so much!
Thank you so so much! I’ve been looking for a video that actually covers dividing with the many term polynomials like I am. This is so helpful I actually understand it now haha. Again thank you so much!
i have my pre-calc test tomorrow and as i was doing my homework i got stuck on this one problem and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get the right answer. i completely forgot about the place holders. thank you so much, you literally saved my life.
I was having such a hard time in my AP Calculus class and a friend told me about your videos; you are going to be my best friend for the next two years!
i think kids these days don't realize the wonderful tools they have at their disposal. if math teachers stink or don't do a good job of explaining something, all you have to is type in a few words into the keyboard and find answers. thank you very much
Thank you, taking an online class from my local community college, the homework doesn't show how to divide poly's by tri's, but it's in one of the "exams". Spent the last hour trying to guess at it and failed. Your video cleared me up on a few issues, thanks.
@roxycheergurl you will have to change that bookmark soon : ) i have a new website i am working on; i will put all the videos on my new site and take them off my old site!
I just want to tank you SO much because I am taking algebra 2 online right now and the guides that they give me to study do nothing to help me and you make it very easy to understand!
I just wanted to say thank you. What I do is when I don't have to do anything after studying, I look at my syllabus and study in advance by watching your videos. By that, I don't look naive when the next lesson is discussed. Thanks!!
thank you sooooo much! my teacher is Chinese & literally teaches this backwards so that we "understand" where the original answer comes from. forget that.. this is what i need & im using your videos to help me graduate !
man i don't know if i might be happy or if i will like to cry, you are such a great teacher, u tought me this in just 5 minutes and 49 seconds what i couldnt learn in 2 hours from my teacher and trying by myself im so happy u are alive, thanks a lot, u got a subscriver an my friends will sub too, i will tell them, thanks again :)
Long division is very useful if you want to solve for a variable when it happens to be in both the numerator and the denominator. It could be for any possible reason, you never know when the variable will end up like that.
@RudiiJontel only do pure math if you are interested in becoming a prof. even then, you can land a prof job easier if do applied math. actuarial science is a good place. stats, computer science are also good!
hahaha. the comment about your southern accent made me giggle. For some reason my brain shut down and i second guessed myself... you helped me get back on track :) and gave me a good little laugh too. Thank you for your time and help :)
I just have to say that you are awesome!!!!! I have been so lost on this and you explained is so well that I totally get it now!! I wish my math instructor would have just explained it like you do! Thanks so much!
This equation seems to work perfectly... but what if it's 3x^4 -3x^3 - 11x^2 + 6x - 1 divided by x^3 + x^2 - 2? Do i take x^3 + x^2 - 2 and add a 0x in there?
I always fail in my math exams this year but i'm safe in quizzes and stuff.. but I lost my confidence when the result of the exams came.. I lost it man! But here you are. You gave me hope!!!
I'm at the end of my 2nd year of engineering. I'm taking my 4th and last advanced calculus class (vector calc and differential equations). You might not be familiar with it, but I was going over power series expansion and realized that I had completely forgot how to do polynomial long division. How sad is that? Anyway, I found your video helpful enough to refresh my memory. Just wanted you to know that your not just helping 16 year olds in high school math classes. Good job!
You are a very good teacher! If you're not already one, become one! Even for me, who do not talk English as a mother tounge, it was still easy to tag along and learn.
Patrick, thank you once again, not even 6minutes from after watching your first Long Division of Polynomail videos, i finally understood it for the first time. I saw your problem, and paused the video. Doing from what i've learned in your first video, i managed to get the same answer as you did=] Thanks to you i can now long divide polynomials with no problem Again, thank you very much Patrick!
Thank you , this was a great video! I was just wondering about something, when you make this video, you show how to do the long division and how to get the reminder? But I don't really understand why all of that is the way it is, I understand how to do it, but don't really understand why for example you write the final answer the way you do. Do you think it is important to understand where everything comes from in math? Or is it ok to just learn the technique for many things?
U just h've d solutions fr every problems someone can face during taking calculus courses !! needed this long division fr d indefinite integral, dn't dn't even remember wat waz d last tym i did this !!! thnx :)
Thank you so much!!!! raise to nth power!!! Suddenly, my son got so excited to calculate more equations... he is so frustrated earlier,now he's so happy he was able to answer his homework all by himself.
Thank you sooooo Much, You are a life saver, i missed a few days of school, and when i went back they were doing this stuff, and also sythetic divison as well.. I had to take half of my test today, but i still get to take the other half tommorow. I wish i would have watched this last night before i took the first half of the test. Do you happen to do tutoring in middle Tennessee? Thanks, Destin
in grade 3 i used to do these long division questions that i made for myself and i loved doing it. (Ofcouse there were no integers or powers or square roots). Your just like my old me!
WOW I wish you were my math teacher! Thank you so much for making these videos. It's really very commendable that you would take this much time out to help people with math.. and 1,200 some videos on math is wayyy remarkable. Amazing job!
For the past year I have needed to know how to do this and just skipped over it thinking it would go away, but it hasn't. Thank you for teaching this me like my teachers at school cannot. xD
In a 6 minute video, I learned more than in 90 minutes of math class. This is fabulous.

It's been 11 years, how are you?
This makes me want to flip the table

Michael Ojeda bit me in the ass ?

lol ya prob@@dynamitestalker4219
yes, that is the nice thing about video!
and often times, the teacher has to cover so much material per year, or they themselves get in trouble...
It must suck using a dry erase board as a lefty.
the real macie jay doing long divesion lol
A trick: you can watch series on flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Malcolm Lucas yup, I have been watching on flixzone} for years myself :)
It is a struggle
Wtf is Macie jay doing in a polynomial division video
@x3mist338 no problem. i have tons of stuff, so check back if you get stuck : )
@mollymarie2 well, in that case, you would divide 5x^4 by x^2; basically though you are doing the exact same thing
i paused the video and solved it before him and it turned out true because i watched the first video......he made long division very easy for me damn ! thank u sir ~
+mido5213 awesome! i think this is a great way to use the videos
patrickJMT thanks.
+patrickJMT I'm just 10 so i'm learning stuff ahead of my grade because when i get to those grades i wanna be already steps ahead
+patrickJMT you make my life thanks a lot 💝
Oksama Bin LADEEEN
@RudiiJontel of course, this is just my opinion!
@oxijen22 synthetic division is used when dividing by a linear term
@imurmoma you dont have to have them anywhere. it is just to make stuff line up
@lordpitt glad you like it : )
You've helped me understand this far better in 5 minutes than my instructor could in 15 minutes before moving on to the next section in class. no problem anna : )
good luck with the LD
@FailedGearz why not? 2x * (1/2)x^2 works. there are numbers out there besides whole numbers!
@gedevega thanks : )

@badbarada no problem!
@RudiiJontel math, of course ; )
@dEViN1887 perfect : )
@GFXenthusiast that is a good thing! : )
@coolman6566 you do not have to add in anything really. you can add those in though to keep everything lined up. it is just a ' book keeping ' trick
Thanks a lot man. First day of school is tomorrow and the summer math packet was burning a hole in my soul.
@kamakasi90 you can thank me in person next year when i am living there! very excited.
if there is no variable with the indicated power, why would you put a 1 there instead of a zero?
@misscollegiate08 tyvm. : )
i just explain things the way that i understand them
at the end of this month, i will be a prime number of years old!
i have my pre-calc test tomorrow and as i was doing my homework i got stuck on this one problem and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get the right answer. i completely forgot about the place holders. thank you so much, you literally saved my life.

u will just end up with fractions, thats all
happy to help :)

I just have to say that you are awesome!!!!! I have been so lost on this and you explained is so well that I totally get it now!! I wish my math instructor would have just explained it like you do! Thanks so much!
@Hyuji1111 glad i could help
This equation seems to work perfectly... but what if it's 3x^4 -3x^3 - 11x^2 + 6x - 1 divided by x^3 + x^2 - 2?
Do i take x^3 + x^2 - 2 and add a 0x in there?
But what if the first terms on both sides have coefficients other than 1? I'm stuck in the first step because I can't fit a 3x² into a -4x³
I have a chapter test in an hour, and this was the only bit I didn't understand, I think you just saved me.
i liked how you added the 0x^3 it makes it more clean and more understandable either way you look at it, Great vids! love em

Is it really necessary to put the 0x^3?
I was sick the day we did this, and this video helped a great deal! Thank you!

@Branos93 i try when i make the videos to keep it neat
@geeksquadof1 no problemo
thank you so much for this video this video help me very much
Patrick, thank you once again, not even 6minutes from after watching your first Long Division of Polynomail videos, i finally understood it for the first time.

it would seem i already have started to do exactly this.... : )
@vasquezg86 just try it without the 0x^3
@preah11 i hope it went well : )
Thank you , this was a great video!
I was just wondering about something, when you make this video, you show how to do the long division and how to get the reminder? @RudiiJontel : ) just minor in something useful. pure math is not good for getting a job i think : )
Well we need it
Thanks for the videos! You've really helped me and saved my life because my math exam has those problems!
*Ur channel is the best among the rest*

THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU JUST SAVED A 45 YEAR OLD DESK FROM BEING RIPPED OFF THE WALL FROM WATCHING USELESS VIDEOS.
thanks patrick ,this helps a lot ;)
Thank for this I was struggling to find a video that actually would help me I got the easier examples and was stuck on the ones like this.
Please keep posting never stop. Cover all math if possible. I need your videos!!!
this guy should get an award !! You sir are the best :D
Your videos have legit saved my grade. Thanks soo much!!!
Clear my doubts,
Thank so much!
