    yes, it deals with math: i am a math tutor first and a math teacher second.
    i teach 13 credit hours worth of classes, and tutor about another 20 hours per week!

    @matthenbro yes, you can still solve it; you can approximate the root using decimals if needed

    Guys remember: When ever you plug in a b c, write them in parenthesis, especially when b is negative, it may completely change it the solution.

      What your talking about is for completion of the square method. If the x^2 has a coefficient other than 1 then you have to get rid of it and you divide all the terms by it. When using the formula you don't need to do that though.

      HI can you please help me with this simutaneouse equation
      x-y=6
      xy=4

    • @AwesomeGamer0
      @AwesomeGamer0 7 лет назад +1

      +james willis
      Equation 1) If you move the -y to the other side, it will become x = 6+y. Now that you know what y equals, plug it into the Equation 2.
      Equation 2) Since we know that x = 6+y, we can put it in this equation like this;
      (6+y)y = 4. Substitute (6+y) for x.
      After this, you'll end up with 6y + y^2 = 4.
      Then, you can move the 4 to the other side, to get 6y + y^2 - 4 = 0.
      Now, you would have to put it in order from the greatest degree to the smallest. Basically, ax^2 + bx + c = 0.
      So that would mean; y^2 + 6y - 4 = 0.
      a = 1
      b = 6
      c = -4
      Now you can put it in the equation;
      x = -b + OR - SQRT b^2 - 4(a)(c)
      ---------------------------------------
      2(a)
      Then just plug in the a, b, and c variables and finish the equation.
      That is how you solve
      *x-y = 6*
      *xy = 4*

    Ok I have a question. For the equation at the 5:16 mark, under the square root, wouldn't the problem simplify to (16 -(-56) making it 72, not -40? And if so, would the answer still be that there's no solution because there's no real number answer? I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly so I can help a friend. Thank you :)

    • @thomascoulter7943

      I can see where you're coming from but it is (-4)^2, which is 16.

      =-40
