That's why I love Foul Territory so much they do thing unorthodox. None of the big network would dare to put Sheng Thao on air. That's why Scott Braun a rising star in the media landscape. I hope other company can appreciate his talent and let him freelance from time to time. Scott putting work in expanding the Foul Territory brand but she should get a chance to be on network TV like Fox, CBS sports, NBC Sport, or ABC Sports. The overall picture of the situation was nailed on.
The politics of Oakland as a city hasn’t been great over the years when it comes to the A’s but we all know the what the main problem is. It’s been shown time and time again with how the A’s have been run (into the ground)
The new mayor has done all she can when she got into power when it comes to the A’s. The lies and deceit from Fisher and his cronies has been other worldly and now MLB is facilitating them to run a mock. It’s bad for baseball and terrible for such a great passionate fanbase in a big market.

Nevada taxpayers are not pleased that you are asking them to support Fisher, Vegas does NOT want Fisher or his team and last, a tiny domed stadium, crammed into a lot in the most congested area on the Strip, will not be well received. It's really a BIG myth that Oakland and Fisher were close to a deal. To be fair, Thao wasn't in at the beginning of the long journey or quest for a new ballpark. EVERYONE was on notice that the A's were actively looking at Vegas for a minimum of TWO years. Fisher had to complete something resembling a ball park deal by Jan. 2024 to remain on revenue sharing and while it could be argued that Fisher didn't meet the criteria timely in Vegas, it was certainly clear to everybody that it wasn't going to get timely done in Oakland. EVEN If Thao could have somehow reach an agreement with Fisher in 2023 then it wasn't clear that Oakland City council would have approved it.

@@seansley simple, the no bullshit answer to your question is because this is America.
Unfortunately in America a man or woman has the absolute right to run their property as they see fit.
The Oakland A’s are John Fisher’s property, he spent his own millions to purchase it, making him the boss, allows him to run it poorly (in your eyes) or just him making those tough choices that are best for the franchise, that’s in my eyes.
Simply because someone chooses to move his property somewhere, you don’t deem appropriate or it going someplace you wouldn’t move to, doesn’t require a lawsuit please.
This isn’t a Monarchy country, that allows one individual (you)

Manfred mentioning the giants in the same breath as the A's is telling. The Gap is an SF based company. In a perfect world, the Fishers would celebrate the idea that John removed the competition for market shares in the area for MLB. I honestly believe this. Fisher is still devoted to the Giants organization and will move the athletics just to please the Giants and his family. Well, the A's lost a legal battle to deal with the problem in January 2023 and the city did nothing to help. In fact when the genius mayor went to pitch Howard Terminal to MLB in July, she included the steel mill but planned to erect foliage to protect the view from the stadium. Then another fire occurred at Schnitzer Steel in August 2023. Huge black clouds and people in both East Bay counties were advised to stay in. Even the Oakland city web site said the fumes could reach as far south as San Jose. That's what the incompetent city pitched to MLB and the media never questioned the mayor about it.

John Fisher wants the A’s to make money. He decided that would never happen in Oakland. The mayor, several city council members, and several local sports reporters all claimed his look to Vegas was a squeeze play to get more out of the City of Oakland, and a bluff. The ask t the city was always minimal, so that has never made any sense. But still they were antogonistic to him, city officials constantly wanting to renegotiate issues, threatening to put it on the ballot, etc… How was it a surprise when as soon as Vegas came up with a plan the A’s took it? Everyone pretty much dared them to.
Then the mayor gets into a pissing match with Fisher and Manfred and thinks she can demand an to keep the A’s name and get an expansion team? She doesn’t know how to politic. She knows how to play to her base in a safe far left city, but not to work with others. She destroyed whatever chance Oakland may have had to get an expansion team by her recent comments. Again, plays well to her base but doesn’t help actual A’s fans.
Fisher could have kept the team here if he really wanted to and just funded the offsite infrastructure himself. That is unheard of these days but he could have chosen to do it if he was that committed to keeping the team in Oakland. But I think the atmosphere, poor attendence going back years, low TV ratings, and antagonistic relationship the A’s have always recieved from the city, in the past where they city/county did everything to make the coliseum better for the Raiders at the expense of the A’s, more recently where the city council hemmed and hawed on support for their end (offiste infrastricture only, this is the minimum most localities provide, most also provide funding for the stadium itself) and the mayor acted as if even negotiating with the A’s was distasteful, I am not surprised the A’s are leaving.
Those celebrating this are fools. They are celebrating the further decline of Oakland. We are literally getting a “B” team. Clap, clap, clap.

Lol if MLB supports Fisher ripping the team out of Oakland they were never going to consider expansion.

Warriors, Niners and Giants all managed to build stadiums, Fisher just can't get it done.

    • @MoonlightGrahamCracker
      @MoonlightGrahamCracker 2 месяца назад

@@cg5968 yes, I think the expansion would be highly unlikely reguardless, but not impossible. It has happened in the past. I think if the A’s stayed in the coliseum 25-27 and had decent attendence and better TV ratings that would help. But they didn’t even surpass 2mil in attendence with back to back 97 win seasons in ‘18, ‘19, maybe not even 1.5 million. That is just pitiful. Also the TV ratings don’t support the contract, even though everyone crows about it, its still bottom five in MLB, or was before the bankruptcy the Angels and Padres provider is dealing with. The mayor and Brodie, and Casey and everyone can crow about the size of the market but its clear the fanbase within that market is miniscule.
I think it would have been better if Fisher just went with a ballpark instead of all the rest at HT, but get why they all in. But the fact remains their ask to the city was minimal and should not have been that complicated. But, as the project has dragged out the finances in the city of Oakland changed, and that made things different.
Not going to compare sports, but MLB wise, every new ballpark is being built with local subsidies. Oracle had minimal, but did have some for offsite infrastructure. However, it was noted just a few years later they never could have done it except during that unique period when interest rates were low along with property costs, and construction. Right now is the exact opposite. KC’s new stadium (ironically for the expansion team that replaced the A’s after they left) is getting public money for the stadiun itself. White Sox’s new park plan will require significant public money and that is a top market team. Petco in San Diego is always ranked a top five ballpark; the owner only paid 1/3 of the stadium cost. But it has revitalized the neighborhood.
The fact is the A’s ask to Oakland was minimal, and the city hemmed and hawed and their public comments were at times questionable about their support. The A’s made it clear they were looking at Vegas, then made it clear whoever came through first they wrre going with. I’ve spent the last several months going back and reading comments trying to figure out what the hell happened. It is embarrassing now to see all the comments from politicians, “news” sites, and the rest that probably forsaw this happening.

A’s attendence has been poor since Haas. Long before Fisher. Even when the A’s pulled back-to-back 97 win seasons in 2018 and 2019 just a couple years after he took over ownership/director, A’s attendence was some of the lowest in MLB. We have a great fan base, but the core fan base is small. The rest of the fans are fickle.
Attendence is the number one source of income for MLB teams by a large margin except the A’s, Pirates, Marlins, and Rays pretty consistently. The A’s have consistently been in the bottom since they came to Oakland, the exception being a couple of years, decades ago, where they were close to middle, but that lasted one or two years then the sank back to the bottom. Their payroll has also been consistently near the bottom long before Fisher, even under Finley. They have all tried to time their “big” spending years with development of prospects amd hope fans show up to sustain it but it has never happened for long. Best run they had was 88-90 (when I came here) they went to three WS, this was also the years of their highest attendence but even then it didnt hit what many teams do in bad years.
Oakland/Alameda jumped when Al Davis said jump, ruined the coliseum for baseball. It wasn’t great before, close to Dodger stadium but because it was made for football it couldnt be that good, but before they built that monstrosity in centerfield it was a real ballpark. Oakland and Alameda Co continually did whatever Al Davis wanted at the detriment to the A’s and no one cared. I remember seeing a game where the outfiled was trashed after a Raiders game in the fall because they couldnt work out schedules right. Players have always hated playing here, especially the past several decades.
The A’s and MLB went through several owners trying to find a stadium. Thao came into the mayorship at the end of this latest attempt and seemed to think the A’s would hit the reset for her, like the years of waiting and aggravation in the past were forgotten. That is beyond naive. They made it clear they were not doing that. She acted like she was working on the deal while pinching her nose shut with one hand. Her behavior since the A’s said they were going with Vegas has not been helpful if she actually wanted to get an expansion team or keep the A’s name here.
I’d much rather the A’s play here ‘25-27. Once they are out of the coliseum playing elsewhere, that is when it is over. If they are still here and something goes bad there would be a chance to have another go at HT, maybe even a scaled down plan or at the colisiem, who knows. But once they are out of the coliseum that is it. That is why the Giants offered to let them play at Oracle next year. Once the A’s have left Oakland the Giants know its done, and they will soon own the whole bay area. But that also goes if they are in Sac or SLC or wherever. If they are elsewhere in 25-27 and the Vegas site goes bad, well they are now out of Oakland and committed to Vegas fully so they will just make a new deal in Vegas even if it takes another year or two. Keeping the A’s in the coliseum a few more years is not about appeasing Fisher. People talk about how he needs it; he doesnt. MLB will let him keep the TV money in Sac if they aren’t at Oracle, but that TV money loss won’t break the team. Many teams are dealing with the same thing for other reasons now, MLB is getting them through. They will do the same for the A’s. And attendence $ is meaninless at this point, it has always been low, even before the Vegas announcement, even when they were winning it sucked. They have learned to live without it.
The other owners support them. MLB is a business. They have watched the debacle of trying to get a stadium deal for decades. The players union supports the move. They put in their last CBA the deadline to have a deal done to put the A’s back on path for full revenue sharing because the players really would rather be in Vegas. If the MLPAA wanted the A’s to stay in Oakland they couldmhave worded it as such in the CBA but they didn’t.
Wolff was the owner/director when they were trying for Fremont, not sure what you were trying to say with Fisher’s Fremont stadium plan?
