Hosting a professional sports team is like hosting a bunch of rich people to your house for a party. You'll provide the venue and food, but they really don't want you to be there and they'll complain about the food, the decor, and the crowd before leaving you to clean up the mess they left behind. In the end, it's better to be sad than to be played

Does Oakland have crime? Yes. (I am a resident). Yet, Oakland doesn’t even crack the top 75 cities in the US with highest the crime rates. By your logic, Memphis, Detroit, Kansas City, Cleveland, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Houston, and Indianapolis all shouldn’t have professional sports teams. (They all rank in the top 25 of us cities with the highest crime rates). Imagine all those great cities without teams. Oakland, has a lot going for it when it comes to hosting a professional ball club. Beautiful weather/climate, high income individuals (who can afford expensive tickets), one of the most diverse population in the U.S. (age/ethnicity/nationality), tourism, and most importantly hard core fans. Can Oakland support/have the capacity for three major ball clubs, maybe not. But let’s be honest, the Warriors went back home to SF (where they originally played at the Cow Palace in SF). The Raiders are the raiders. Ownership has always lacked loyalty and will always jump at the next shiny opportunity. (They won’t be in Vegas that long-trust me). That leaves the A’s. With an owner whom won’t seriously invest in the team, traded away all good talent, and wonders why they can’t pack the ancient coliseum…
      Just my two cents…

The mayor said that there would be no opposition in Las Vegas. The culture and the setup of the Valley are not as thwarted as California's opposition and the way they operate (I grew up in Southern California). There are certain things in Vegas that are historical and not touched, but it looks like the A's did their homework and is building by the strip, which has its purpose. If it was built in a residential area that affected the environment, there might be some possible opposition but this only benefits Las Vegas and its residents.

If the A's organization cares AT ALL about their LOYAL die hard fans not only here in Oakland but in the entire Bay Area then they will realize the value of staying "Rooted In Oakland" and it's the right thing to do. The MLB should be ashamed of themselves for offering to wave the relocation fee to give the A's financial incentive to leave their city and fans when we are THIS close to figuring this out. It's completely disrespectful to this Oakland A's fan base and IF the organization leaves Oakland I can't see myself ever supporting anything Major League Baseball ever again.

In a few countries where cities actually pay for the stadia (Italy, really), more than one team usually shares it. In case you think that means squat, just know that San Siro in Milan was the model for the Dolphins stadium in Miami.
Practically every town has a team. Usually the club pays for the facility. Most of the time, this means the club is more realistic about the size, the capacity, and overall how it treats the community they serve. Truth is, there’s practically nowhere to which you can relocate, it’s already occupied. That, plus the system of promotion and relegation, puts natural limits on the stadium arms race.
