- With the A's leaving Oakland for Vegas, that makes three major league teams that have left 'The Town' since 2019. Oakland will become a minor-league city. Mayor Sheng Thao says she's not selling out the city of Oakland and that the team acted in bad faith about whether or not they would stay in the Bay.

The mayor is "angry"?...so what...maybe if they concentrated on combating crime which is off the hook, I can't imagine why they left
Did you see what a new stadium and injecting money did for inglewood.....yeah management did this and they penny pinched everything
The A's didn't leave because of crime. Vegas has crime. The A's wanted a bigger market, and tax-free incentives to build. Oakland offered them a fair deal.
They want a bigger market, that's why they got the hell out
Vegas doesn’t have human s h I t all over the streets and homelessness everywhere….
@@togoandmoss san Francisco is dirty, with tons of homeless people. LA has the same problems. Didn't stop team owners from spending billions of dollars in those markets. Truth is these sports leagues want to grow their leagues, which means incentivizing their owners to invest in big markets with large corporate support. Easier for them to buy suites . Oakland is a cash-strapped, working-class city. They don't have large corporate support, and they don't have a fanbase that's growing. Oakland tried to keep them. They lobbied and got state funding for over 300 million in infrastructure, and approval of the HT site. In the end, A's ownership, and MLB got what they wanted. Las Vegas it is.
Last non-homeless person to leave Oakland please turn out the lights.
At this rate, the lights will be turned off regardless. Oakland is the Detroit of the West.
Turn out the lights... the party 🎉 is over
@@drm6007 Detroit still has an MLB NBA NHL NFL team Oakland is worse
@@TroyGoodwin WTF are you talking about? Atlanta is a great city. Sure we have traffic problems and the same issues every major American city has but you can't compare it to Oakland in any possible way.
@@theb3654 Touché. All Oakland has left is crime and blight.
Oakland. The city that can't.
Vegas. The city that can.
what will they do when there's no water though?
Plan and simple
The fact of the matter is oakland is not what it used to be. It’s crime and sadness is so excessive. The shiny skyscrapers downtown can’t even lease since it’s so dystopian and dangerous.
Sorry you can't blame the As, plus this Mayor is a newbie, there was nothing she or her govt could do! Oakland has no money, could not support major pro sports
I’m guessing the A’s want to make home alive after games. Hard to blame them.
😂😂 for reals
And keep there car
@@Moneyball01 lol the whole Oakland is shit no one wanna be there
@@Kodousinx stay mad troll
The mayor doesn’t care about the sport, she just wants the tax money. This also looks bad on her when you have a sports team leave your city. All about the image, like every politician.
And it's not even that. They lost 3 teams in about 10 years time.
In San Fran, people mostly fear getting robbed. In Oakland, people mostly fear getting killed. That affects current residents leaving fearing their safety, tourism and of course city revenue. Maybe work on those issues a little more 🤔
It has nothing to do with crime. Billions have flowed into la and san fran to build stadiums. San Diego and Oakland lost their teams. San Diego was not willing to spend public money, and Oakland was not willing to bend over backwards to the A's help build theirs. Oakland is a working class town with little corporate support. Vegas is corporate convention and event town with tons of tourists. Oakland didn't have much of a chance.
Folks from Oakland come to San Francisco to robbed, just facts
We aren't losing a major league team. We aren't even losing a minor league team. We are losing the A's.
The AA's
You're losing everything. Youre losing civility, the Berkeley fishing pier that is condemned but they spend all their money on woke trash instead of replacing or repairing it. You're losing your BBQ joints (like Everett Jones) you're black and white owned businesses or shutting down or moving away. Gangs are taking over streets on atvs. Gays have access to your children.
Yup. Your city is a dump and no one wants to stay there
I don't blame the A's. I would leave this craphole too.
I did leave that craphole and now my teams have basically followed me
Las Vegas nl in 2027 sf Giants al west in 2027
@@jesmerreyes7173 Wrong. Giants are staying in the NL.
The homeless and crime are greater priorities than pro sports.
But gives the city revenue and jobs, to fight against crime and homelessness. U need solutions, not just pointing to the obvious.
Now they have nothing.
A lot of people make a lot of money off the homeless they aren't going anywhere look into it
She's got herself to thank. I know they did multiple requests and they were all rejected.
They wanted Oakland to foot a majority of the bill it’s idiotic
Dude, she's only been a mayor for a 3 months. The previous issues are due to the previous mayor. She tried to renegotiate this deal and save it.
She’s so theatrical. If she was as theatrical about the 24/7 break ins at Jack London square. 😂
All three Oakland teams gone in a span of five years. Pathetic.
4 going back to the 70s with the Seals
Blah blah blah… a weak mayor with no negotiation experience.
Don't forget the Seals also left for Cleveland in 1976.
San Francisco Giants owner made San Jose sign a territorial rights agreement and refused to bend. They had a site for the park near SAP center. Could have been San Jose Athletics
lol, everyone getting out of Oakland
U seen Vegas compared to Oakland it’s light years ahead
No water will kill vegas
@@hufair2215 what Oakland?...yes, light years ahead as in "Escape from Oakland"
I got out and the Raiders and A's basically followed me
I know the feeling, St Louis is where I am from and they lost 2 NFL teams, An NBA team, and almost lost our NHL team, and we would only have the Cardinals left to root for. You Oakland fans do not desrve this kind of treatment.
I second that notion as a St. Louis citizen. We know the fans of Oakland are awesome. Just as we are. We feel you and our bar will have a beer in your honor. Your city leadership is to blame...not Oakland fans and not the A's.
@@jasonstemm6450 @joseph Williams Missouri has had the most unfortunate history of losing teams that are still playing somewhere else (only team I'm listing that was discontinued is the ABA team): Kansas City A's moved to Oakland when the 1967 season finished and the St. Louis Hawks moved to Atlanta a year later; after only two years the Kansas City Scouts were moved to Denver and became the Colorado Rockies in 1976, then six years after that were moved and renamed the New Jersey Devils, while the Spirits of St. Louis in the ABA were left out of the merger with the NBA in 1976, with teams from Denver (the entire Mtn. time zone all to themselves) and New York (number one market) being a no-brainer for the merger; the Kansas City Kings were moved to Sacramento in 1985, the NFL St. Louis Cardinals went to Phoenix (Tempe, Ariz. to be exact) in 1988 and the St. Louis Rams to Los Angeles (again) in 2016. No other state has anywhere near as many former teams that are playing someplace else.
Hartford, Montreal, San Diego and Seattle have also felt that when the Whalers, Expos, Chargers and Sonics moved out in 1997, 2004, 2017 and 2008.
If you build a city with safe streets, the professional sports teams with come.
This obviously isn’t about safety, otherwise Chicago and Detroit would have zero professional teams. This is about money.
@@DARKSEID76 You probably know, Mr D, that the Chicago Bears are about to become the Arlington Heights Bears! That's probably mostly a business decision with only about 10-15% having to do with rampant minor crime. Nonetheless, it doesn't help matters that the outgoing mayor & the incoming mayor are very "ambivalent" (that's the polite expression for "they don't give a tinker's dam") about preventing lawlessness, violence & criminality in the Loop -- especially by teenagers, or, as the Brits would say, "teenage hooligans."
As far as the Cubs & the Pale Hose are concerned, their venues are moderately safer, so they will likely stick around.
Looks like the mayor doesn't care about the A's leaving coz she's betting on businessmen from mainland to develop Oakand.
Oakland city council look like a bunch of elementary school administrators
Why is the mayor angry? Maybe they should have given the As a new stadium.
Oakland A's : Yall too ghetto. BYE.
A $1.5 billion stadium and right on the Las Vegas Strip. No state tax in Nevada. More money in Las Vegas than Oakland could ever have. Makes sense. They said hockey would never make it in Las Vegas. 6 years in and they get a sell out every game. 18,000 people and they also have minor league hockey team that draws a ton of people. LeBron wants the NBA in Las Vegas. You don't think every major sport will be there. You're crazy.
Las Vegas is shoplifting Oaktown
The Legacy of Libby…. Oakland got dumped and their Blaming the A’s! Hahaha…
Oakland doesnt derserve to have Pro Sports team....The city is a wreck , crime is out of control , and nothing is being done to solve it.
Fun fact; Howard Terminal park would have cost $12 billion
Gah damn, Idk if even the Yankees would pay that much for a stadium
And the A’s were willing to pay it. Oakland just need to fix the surrounding streets.
Oakland Lost on of the biggest construction projects on the west coast.
Go woke go broke.
Gentrification coming soon to Oakland like the rest of Cali Bay area as planned 🤔
Sorry Oakland did this to themselves , A's tried and now Oakland will be homeless when it comes to pro sports.
As tried..😂😂😂😂 🤡
Love seeing the mayor complain while the Blue Jays crank a stinker into center field with five people in the stands
Sheng Thao should be apologising to residents of Oakland, instead of getting angry. Does she even know what shame is?
Sounds like shes the one that pulled out
City officials quickly pass the blame. Pretend to act surprised, fain shock, really believe their not at fault.
I stopped caring for the A’s after my teen years. Seeing the big 3, Giambi bros, Jonny Damon, Eric Chavez, and so many more do their thing. But the selling of so many great players we needed, and self sabotage of the owners, I lost my love for them. Even when they had winning seasons I left the seat empty because they don’t invest in their players, instead they feed them to other well established teams for money and draft capital. The 'Money Ball' is in style strategy doesn’t win championships anymore. When it comes to them leaving Oakland now, I say run, run. That place is trending in the wrong direction, even if it were on the port, upgrade for the fans yes, but you can’t prevent the infestation of crime and tragedy. Let’s stop using National Teams to cover up what’s really happening in the city to both individuals and businesses. Oakland isn’t the kind of place to need a National Sports outfit to make Regional and National news, troubles there has been out of control for a long time. Now the city officials can focus on the help that Oakland really needs rather than keeping a sports team at the expense of hard working people.
The mayor...who is barely in office...is a fool to be "disappointed" that the A's are leaving. She should blame herself and the previous mayors who occupied city hall.
Nothings gonna get built at Howard terminal this government is terrible
3rd world city
Even Oakland lost the Indoor Football League's Panthers to San Jose before playing a game.
If you build it. They will come.
Well they didn't build it.
If a city provides a new stadium
The city should gain part ownership.
There is only one team. Giants
Anyone that can get the hell out of California for any reason must do it. Your life depends on it !
Put the squatters and homeless on Howard terminal and give them plumbing, electricity and shipping containers, to give them some type of housing. I would hope oakland could at least afford that at a minimum. Since the couldn’t afford to fix the streets around the terminal.
Rest assured folks, the mayor will not lose an ounce of sleep tonight.
Lets see there were the 1) Philadelphia Athletics 1901 to 1954 2) Kansas City Athletics 1955 to 1967 3) Oakland Athletics 1968 to 2024 and soon the Las Vegas Athletics
And for three years between 2025 and 2027, the Sacramento Athletics.
Libby Schaaf and Sheng Thao have both pulled a Roger Moses, Clay Bennett, Jeffrey Loria and Stan Kroenke by pushing the Warriors, Raiders and Athletics out of Oakland. SMH.
It goes way before Libby Schaaf and Sheng Thao.
I blame Elihu M. Harris, Jerry Brown, Ronald V. Dellums, and Jean Quan for not planning a baseball-only facility for the A's much sooner especially when Al Davis decided to move the Raiders back to Oakland from Los Angeles.
@@joesakic91 And the taxpayers when the Raiders ditched Oakland again, this time for Vegas.
Oakland should build a a Major League Rugby Stadium and get Major League Rugby team. It's would Northern California first MLR team.
Two other teams bailed ( one team twice ) before the A's finally gave up and left. What did they all have in common mayor??
😂😂😂😂 I live in Vegas
Let them leave if they want to move to Oakland. The city has an opportunity to redevelop that entire area for mixed use and public space.
yes, probably more drive bys for the gang bangers
Turn it into a homeless village
What opportunity? There are no more opportunities. What you need to understand is that pro sports is big business and Oakland lost 3 teams in a 5 year span because they didn't take pro sports seriously.Mixed use and public space for who?A bunch of homeless crack heads.I want NFL,NBA and MLB to come back to Oakland.Instead of making sound business decisions Oakland city leaders are all in their feelings.
More likely is it sits rots and becomes another homeless drug den
I’m from the Bay Area, born and raised. I got the fuck out. Where I live now, I can walk my dog at night. In the summer I take long late night bike rides. These are things I wouldn’t even consider doing in Oakland, at noon. Oakland is not a remotely safe place to live. When you watch the news you’d think Oakland is the worst nastiest high crime ghetto in Kenya. Watching news about Oakland it’s hard to believe it’s a city in America.
you are wrong! it looks more like Nigeria here. their ancestors did not come from Kenya!
I guess Oakland is not the place to be if you want a professional sports franchise
Oakland lost the warriors after the 18/19 nba season the raiders after the 19/20 and now the A’s will be gone after the 26/27 to go from 3 to 0 pro teams in a span of 8 years is sad
Those sad about losing the team should have gone to more games.
The A's didn't move because of poor attendance.
Sounds like Oakland politicians need to retreat to their safe space from all the “bullies” LOLz
Disappointed fans? What, all 10 of them?
Good the plan to build them a stadium at the port is a terrible idea and a waste of tax payer dollars.
Nah. Not challenged. Not challenge. /

Imagine thinking the A's are a major league team. They are the sporting equivalent of a ponzi scam. They fill their roster with cheap young players looking for a future star to trade for more cheap young players. All so the owner can pocket the revenue sharing from actual competitive teams.
Can we get the A's OUT OF HERE at the end of this season?
Nope, still have contract until end 2024

I don’t care if the mayor is “angry”. The sports team doesn’t revolve around politics. Politicians should stop their greed before they chased away their team
Who said the Nevada legislature is going to vote for it? that is never a sure thing
I give them 1% they vote no
No way they say no
😂
Why don’t you all A’s fan just become Giants fans now! We are basically just 10 mins away😂
The city of Oakland should have owned the Oakland A's and raiders instead of letting Private industry this is ridiculous. That's why green Bay is the best team because the city owns it
The city does not own the Packers. The Packers are owned by shareholders.
Why should a city own a team? That's ludicrous.
F them A’s
WOKE-Town loses its Third professional sports Ball team .

It's the mayor's fault.
Las Vegas Athletics
For anyone who likes the show Succession, imagine this diversity hire mayor lasting a 10 seconds on that show. Negotiations are ONLY about leverage. The fact that the A's exited negotiations with the city of Oakland midway through shows that the A's and Vegas were serious about a new stadium. Sometimes it really is a big dick competition and she just lost.
