      Y'all I don't mean to rain on your guys' parade but isn't this exactly the type of comment that hurt Sulli so much? The hatred towards a person's looks? We can't go on about being more thoughtful and caring of others if we keep hurting others, even if it can be justified. I'm not saying you're wrong to feel upset but we gotta be more mindful because the guy is probably dealing with this more personally due to his appearance and this isn't helping what should be a constant effort to be kinder to others.
      Right now, we're not being better than the K-netz who endlessly rag on idols' appearance. The same ill intent is here.

    I just heard about the tragic news today and it's overwhelming but I just want to say to anyone thinking of following Sulli DON'T PLEASE PLEASE! The pain you feel right now for Sulli will spread onto your loved ones and it won't heal your pain. If anything we have to just try to empathize with them to understand why they chose to end it, reflect and learn how to help those still living in the future to give at least one person feeling lost a sense of security. A security most idols don't feel when shoved into an industry that demands they be a product and not human.
    This was a Patreon video but it just doesn't sit well with me to have a deceased idol video for $$ (thats why I have not and will not make one for Jonghyun) The only reason I have this video is because I made it months ago before and promised to release it. *As of today I'm closing my Patreon permanently, the page will be up but it's free and I can't commit to a schedule anymore for a while.*
    Last month I was MIA since I had to fly out of town to help a family member in the hospital. They got better and just as things have finally gone back to normal chaos is just breaking out everywhere. All I can say is things go bad when you least expect it, they come out of nowhere and grief is NOT easy, but we CAN endure it.
    I am back in the hospital for the rest of October unfortunately and will be releasing these old videos once in a while when I find a chance, but new videos I just can't promise anymore for the moment.

    @TheLurkingDerm 4 года назад +1101

    Sulli debuted too young, and it’s concerning that debuting idol ages seem to keep dropping, especially for the younger members of girl groups. No one should be exposed to media and public scrutiny so intensely when they are still at such an early developmental age, especially females, since the topics usually pertain to their weights, body, and looks, etc.

    • @AnonningAnon
      @AnonningAnon 4 года назад +17

      I disagree. Often, boys will be critiqued if they are not thin or built, even as teens, so many idols will train for hours on end to get muscles fast and they will starve themselves to show their 6 packs in record times to their fans (an act probably encouraged by their company and the fans themselves). Boys should not be training muscles, it's seriously detrimental to their growth. Also, any boys and girls so young should NOT be starving, it's very concerning. When one is malnourished so young it has, long, life lasting consequences that cannot be reversed.

    • @aliaidrissi8802
      @aliaidrissi8802 4 года назад +107

      @@AnonningAnon While I think that the "boys and muscle" aspect is true, I've never witnessed a 14, 15 or 16 year old boy being forced to have/show their abs. That comes only when they get older, and I'm not saying that it's healthy or good then either, but the comment above says that especially girls are being forced to diet more from a younger age, which is true. They have to wear short skirts/pants, dresses, croptops etc. and therefore their bodies are constantly exposed. This doesn't apply as much for younger boys, but when they become legal, or adults, people suddenly expect them to be "a man", have abs and so on, so I get what you mean. It's all toxic, and nobody really has it better, not girls and not boys, because almost every idol has manifested the belief in their head that they are worthless when they aren't pretty/handsome/beautiful.

    • @AnonningAnon
      @AnonningAnon 4 года назад +14

      @@aliaidrissi8802 Because they are constantly told they need to change by their fans and companies, that's why it's manifested. Also, I was talking about the idols showing their abs as teens, you can see it in BTS in their debut when they had the "bad boy" image. They were still teens then and it was disturbing, considering they dieted hard for the abs. I never said anyone had it better or worse, I was simply giving a man's perspective to body critiques and exposition.
      I experienced being critiqued in my teens and I can't imagine being an idol and getting those same critiques by thousands of people (mostly women for male groups, at a time when opinions from the opposite sex are sensitive topics to a developing boy) about the shape of my face, my weight, my muscles or my height for that matter. I used to be called Shortie and I hated it, just as much as my cousin hated being called Smurf (short height runs in the family).
      Some people (generally girls) thought it was cute, it's not, it's humiliating when you already have a complex about something and some (both boys and girls) did use that as an insult to purposefully make me feel like shit.
      It reminds me of Sulli being called Sulliphant or chubby, because her thighs are naturally thick. Most people are damned dicks and are unable to empathise with others and it gets worse as the years pass and their faces melt into their anonymous screens.

      People in general aren't careful enough when talking about other's bodies. And boys or men just have to take in whatever people tell them and pretend they don't care. It sucks. I can only imagine how many males must have issues with their bodies, obsessing over things like muscle mass, height, their masculinity etc.
      And I didn't mean to make it seem like boys don't have it hard, I know that especially male idols are really insecure and often talk about wanting or needing to have abs and stuff.
      You chose BTS as an example, and I think that's a good one. In that aspect we can take the member Jimin (who showed his abs constantly in No More Dream) to further elaborate.
      He clearly suffers from a lot of issues and insecurities concerning his body. Since their debut it was always about his abs, but he was only 17 1/2 years old, just turning 18 in late 2013. He hadn't trained for a long period of time either, and had a lot of baby fat in his cheeks, which was normal; he was still a teen, but he nonetheless felt pressured to have a six-pack, or eight-pack, or whatever people call it.
      This needs to really stop, for women and men/adults, and urgently for girls and boys/young people as well. It's sickening, but the kids who made fun of you did that because they were taught by their parents and their environment that it's okay to do so, and that every imperfection a human being has, can be pointed out and joked about (maybe even as a way to make themselves feel better).
      It makes me extremely uncomfortable when other people get bullied, because I could never do that to anyone else. Bullying & Cyber-Bullying are disgusting, and just reading your personal experiences made me both angry at the people who told you those things, and it also made me realize how I or my friends and family judge other people's appearances too.
      There's a really short guy in our year, and me and my friends never talked that much to him, but we did make a few jokes about his height some time ago. We did think that his height was cute, but we never told him that, because why would we? Nowadays nobody cares about it anymore, and nobody ever brings it up. Because it literally doesn't and shouldn't matter, and your story made me even more aware of that, so thank you.
      Another thing that happens in my year a lot is fatshaming. I once overheard a guy saying "Thank god we don't have any fat girls in our P.E. class.", slightly bigger guys (not obese, just...not underweight-looking like everyone else) are always being mocked and called fat as a "joke", and an aquaintance of me told me that I was "thicc, but in a good way, not like *random person* that fat bitch" (basically she could've just complimented me normally instead of calling another girl fat like wtf).
      I'm sorry, I kind of went off track here, but I think when reading the top comment and the responses, you would get a pretty accurate view of my thoughts, so I'm going to end this here. I apologize if I somehow misunderstood/misinterpreted you or came off as rude or hateful, that wasn't my intention. I actually agree with you, and just wanted to add some things. Please correct me if I put any words in your mouth, this is just the way I saw your arguments. :')

But I was reading comments online calling her “fat” & I was so confused. It sucks how these idols have to endure such harsh words. Sulli was beautiful no matter what size. All i've had on my mind since she's passed is that she was one of the most gorgeous people I ever laid eyes on... when I used to tell people that I liked kpop before it became popular, they used to ask me who I think is the prettiest or more handsome in the groups I listened to, and I would always say that there is this one idol that i think is the prettiest but that i didn't listen to her group. I got into kdramas before kpop and saw sulli before i knew she was a member of f(x) and for the longest time i would tell people to wait so i could look her up through "to the beautiful you" and I would say "well she's not a singer but she is one of the most beautiful people i've ever seen." I get culture shock every time Koreans say something blunt about idol's looks. I get that open criticism is their thing, and having these standards means aesthetically pleasing idols rise to the top which, to be real, most of us international K-pop fans prefer as well.
    But after a while, that callous bluntness can rot people from the inside out. People become depressed as fuck, feel empty, have no deep and meaningful thoughts cos they have no energy from starving to themselves to death, they compare themselves against others, have insecurity, eating disorders, stress, body dysmorphia, anxiety, and/or suicide.
    Again, it's not my place to judge their culture, and my culture has shitty aspects too, but come on, there needs to be a balance between that bluntness and high standards and allowing idols to be human;. Sometimes being less than perfect is better, more real. More happy and healthy.

    I've never seen a case like Sulli's... Never, in the whole industry.
    She was so hated day by day, for everything she did to everything she said to every picture she posted. People claimed her to be "crazy" and laugh about her weird behaviors, but weren't people noticing that something was wrong? She demanded please to all the comments to stop, because she didn't feel well, she was not well and people just received her with more hate. Like someone is telling you they're not okay, and yet you keep harassing that person again and again... Everyday I went to her Instagram account and all there was was negative comments, for literally everything she posted. Things like: "she's crazy, she needs some help" or "she loves being the center of attention".
    I really hope all this people that commented all this things now have realized how this comments affect someone. Is very easy to be behind a screen, criticizing everyone but I hope I would see all this people in the spotlight.
    R.I.P Sulli, there was people that really knew you were an angel and supported you no matter what.

    Life is ao ironic... I used to be truly jealous of Sulli when I was a teen because she was so pretty and my age. It got to the point that I almost hated her because every male idol would praise her beauty and she seemed everyone’s favourite. But I honestly couldn’t hate her, I thought she was so gorgeous that I made her fanart. And now she’s no longer here because people in reality hated her for no reason... smh

    No offense but some knets need a reality check. They put unhealthy expectations on a person and when she shows her humanness people are disappointed and hate her for not being the unrealistically perfect image they had in their mind. Sulli lived for herself not for others but people wouldn't let that go and now she's gone...

She is so beautiful inside and out, it is a pity she had to deal with negative comments and immature people who spend their time only bringing others down. I feel what truly makes a person beautiful is their personality and the kind of person they are.

    It makes me so upset knowing what Sulli had to go through... Even though she was a celebrity, she was a human being. I understand why people got angry when she was caught dating and clubbing during her hiatus, but I wouldn't assume she was just playing around all the time. Being on hiatus doesn't mean staying holed up at home or only doing company work. It's a given that she had more free time than the other members. Did people really expect her to just not do anything and stay at home for a year? Just because she was caught clubbing, doesn't mean she went clubbing every night, just because she went to the beach with her boyfriend, doesn't mean she spent her whole hiatus going on dates. She's human, she can have fun every now and then just like everybody else. I mean, the reason she went on hiatus is because of the hate she was getting. Haters were getting mad at her for not being present when they were the ones responsible. Hypocrites. She also might not have put in as much effort on stage because she felt like she would get hate anyways. If you felt like no one was there to support you, wouldn't you also just want to give up? Also, I think her body type naturally made it hard for her to maintain weight loss. After seeing pictures of the bruises on her legs, I would also suspect that she got shots to lose weight, but I think I would have done the same if I were her. I can't believe people were shaming her for getting carboxy shots when they were also commenting about how "fat" she was. After being harassed about weight and body type for YEARS, wouldn't you also feel the need to resort to such measures? Celebrities feel pressure to look perfect in the public's eyes. If any celebrity is getting plastic surgery or shots or wearing corsets or any of that, it's because they wanted to look better for the same people who hate on them. They went through all of that just to fit harsh standards, only to be criticized even more. It's so unfair. I hope the people who hated on Sulli reconsider their actions and realize what they've done.

    I know that looks are most important with k-pop, but instead of starving the girls why not give them a personal trainer to do weights and stuff and let them meet up with a nutritioniist so that they get healthy meal plans, so that they have tons of energy for performances. At least they should be at the lower end of their healthy bmi. With enough muscle, the girls could look toned and healthy and also eat good food. I was really disgusted by the guy in the tv-show...he shouldn't talk if he doesn't have a perfect body himself.
