Yuju is a main vocalist and has always had a slim but strong build. However since mid 2018 she has slowly been shrinking and hasn't stopped losing weight.

Those r haters tbh. Gfriend members are so beautiful and unique in their own way. Many people criticized them in their debut bc they rarely put any makeup on. Sowon said they only had lip balm. They didn't drown in makeup in their debut like all other girlgroups did.

She really did not seem like herself in sunrise era. It was like something was bothering her. In all her interviews she was out of it. However, she did say she wanted to gain weight back and as a skinny person as myself, i know that is not easy. Yuju is getting better! I hope she gains her confidence and weight back. If u watch their recent interviews, yuju seems fine again. She just needs time

To this day Gfirend gets so much criticism, is so sad since they have achieve a lot with a lot of effort and yet the audience rarely praise them....
International fans have taken a huge interest in them, haters are becoming drowned out more and more every day by their rising popularity. They win awards all the time, and get a lot of praise from second Gen groups. The audience has really grown to love them if you ask me. The hate has died down so much in comparison.

Well soumu didn't reveal the reason but I was a trainee at soumu at that time before I transferred and Yuju had problems with her vocal chords which means she was pressuring herself to sing the tftmn triple highnote perfectly for everyone that she damaged it slightly. Right after that she had influenza during January 1st to January 10th which means she didn't get time to rest properly and recover. She was still recovering when promoting sunrise and that made her have problems with her vocal chords again. Anyways the reason she left for a month was because of the damage at her vocal chords. Of course, soumu didn't want to reveal that.

Are you majoring in psychology or are you just a great observer? What you state in this video is mostly right.. She is that type who'll just keep everything to herself, and only shows her best side to people. When she was in hiatus, she was rumoured to be in some kind of depression because of seeing a lot of mean comments regarding her appearance.

Last minute 4 days ago I decided to do this video bc I thought it'd be short... *face palm* I'm not sure whats going on with Yuju but I hope she gets a good rest and can focus on herself! She's never once showed a desire to lose weight and even now she said in that VLive she's trying to gain it back (and she looks to be doing just that for now even if it's slow). She seems so sad and out of it, stress can really deteriorate a persons immune system and ability to gain weight, GFriend are no strangers to massive amounts of criticism, and Yuju is just 1/6th of that iceberg.
She is very perfectionist but she also seems like an introvert on camera, and keeps her troubles to herself. Yuju and the company know everyone can clearly see she's not well, yet they have decided to stay silent. I think we can only trust Yuju has her reason's for not wanting to say anything and let her work on herself for the time being.
The most important thing is Yuju is actively trying to get better. That same day she said she was trying to gain back the 6kg she lost, GFriend did a mukbang and Yuju ate very well and happily the whole time.
Idk it's just making me really sad to think how much she must have suffered to lose that much so fast yet try so hard to gain it back even if she fails. Like watching her fancams of always getting back up after falling, you know she'll fall again, but she keeps going.

I remembered at a time, she mentioned she fall sick easily like having flu and sore throat - a very bad one too + practicing the dance everyday. So I think these factors led her to lose a lot of weight. I also hope that she'll take care of herself and gain some weight looking healthy again. ❤

Seeing her during Fingertip and Sunrise side by side is heartbreaking. I also wonder if the public so harshly criticizing Fingertip played a role in her weight loss. Their chart results and relevance didn’t fully rebound until TFTMN when Yuju was at her thinnest. That could have caused a bad mental association between her weight and the group’s success. Also, the fact that she gained weight DURING promotions highlights that something is/was going on behind the scenes. Idols tend to lose weight throughout a promotional cycle, because it is when they are most active and have the least amount of time to eat and rest.
And feeling bad over the members lifting you? Yuju, my love, even if you gained 10kg, that’s only an extra 2kg per person or 1kg per arm to lift for a few seconds. That isn’t even a noticeable difference to lift, so think of your health first!

In fingertip era she was perfectly fine. Besides their physicals increased so much that era. Its during tftmn era when she started losing alot of weight. And tftmn did really well. Its not about whether their songs did good or not. Something else was the reason bc she was gone for a month
Sana shii I’m just saying how the public responded to their songs could have created a negative association. Fingertip and Glass Bead were when Yuju was at her healthiest weight, but the public was pretty tough on both songs. Immediately after those comebacks, she started losing weight (not rapidly). Then TMFTMN came and it was their most successful comeback and Yuju was also at her lowest weight to that point. I don’t think the public is responding to her weight, that’s ridiculous. Just that the positive and negative reinforcement of both could affect her outlook on her self image.
A Wish Oh, I don’t think it’s the choreography that is the reason either. It’s that she was aware of the members lifting her and feeling sorry for them. When you are overly concerned about your weight, you tend to be self-conscious about people picking you up, etc. It just shows that for some reason, weight has become more forethought her mind.

I'm honestly very scared fore Yuju because this weight loss was so sudden, even though I'm a new fan I can already tell she was perfectly thin from the start and did not need to lose any and I mean ANY weight I don't want what happened to one of the Oh My Girl members (jinE) to happen to her I very well hope she is gaining back the unnecessary lost weight and has it under control. And if she doesn't have it under control I hope someone at least steps in and helps her.

She has started to gain back weight though so I don't think you need to worry. They even said she was very sick for a long time which can make you drop weight, so it doesn't even need to be because of a diet. And yes she has even said in interviews/lives that she doesn't want people to keep asking about her health.

Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who noticed she had lost so much weight during their April'18 comeback.
I have always been such a big fan of them, I never knew how much hatred they have been facing.. :( I always thought they were loved very much since they are so diligent and talented and are so f*cking great at dancing perfectly synchronized!

They're many people love them + antis who are jealous with their achievement. Just scroll down in Twitter you will find other fandoms refused to acknowledge their achievement and talents. Always slandering them and nitpicking on their looks.
I think she is fine, she has clearly started to gain weight back now to the point that you can even see a six pack at the last performances, that's not something you see if you are skinny to the point of danger. They also said she was very sick for a while which is why she lost so much weight in the first place. Being able to gain weight while following an idols schedule is impressive in itself so I don't think we need to worry that much anymore. She has also said she doesn't want people to ask to much since it burdens her.
@@Mrsuperdestroyer I have to disagree with one point though, for a woman to have a visible six pack, it is required to have a dangerously low amount of body fat, so having a six pack for a woman isn't necessarily a sign of being healthy as most women who attain a six pack end up having too little body fat, up to the point where they lose their period even. However as fans we can't help but worry about our favorite idols as we want what is best for her - and if she wants us to wait patiently while she is trying her best to get healthy again, that is exactly what we will do :-)

As you noted, Yuju has always pushed herself and is the most hardworking member. She learns choreography the slowest and has had immense pressure put on her due to being main vocal and the most supported member when GFRIEND started out. She will sacrifice every part of herself for the sake of the group without hesitation.
It's possible that the company pressured her to diet for TFTMN era and this is when she started receiving hate for her look. Her hair was also styled quite full and was very long, overwhelming her frame and making her look even thinner since she also lost weight in her face. She then took time off due to the stress she was putting on herself and hate she was suddenly receiving. I do not think she got plastic surgery. It's possible that Yuju was ashamed to reveal the reason she was gone and asked the company not to announce it, so it was likely for mental health.
I think she kept the weight off for Sunrise because she felt self-conscious for being lifted. She is looking much better physically during Fever and Crossroads era. However, maybe it's because they are performing to empty audiences, but she seems much more somber on stage and seems tired more frequently.

There was an old interview that people dug up after hearing the news that gfriend was disbanding. Gfriend was commenting on how they were feeling really overworked and that a lot of their concerns weren't taken seriously. Yuju said that she had to eventually beg her doctor for wisdom teeth surgery so that she could take a break. I don't recall when the interview was but it's here on RUclips if you search up "why did gfriend disband". Maybe the stress of the surgery also contributed to her weight loss. Either way, gfriend faced a LOT of mistreatment from the public and their own label despite being so dedicated and talented. I hope they are all on healthy paths now.

An idea for another idol to do this type of video about: Sunny (SNSD). As her stan, her sudden withering away during Party/Lion Heart promos was shocking to me, as her weight had always seemed stable before. Though she did often openly call herself fat. (And she was *not* fat.) After that,her weight has seemed to fluctuate quite extremely.

I’ve never understood the hate on gfriends visuals, I have truly always thought they were all beautiful and had their own unique charms.
I teared up watching this. I'm not a fan of GFriend so it's not like I know everything about them. But watching this, it really breaks my heart. Being an idol is not easy, with their full schedule and all the dieting and practice. But people still throw hate on them as if they are perfect themselves. It's just so sad. Hope that it's nothing serious and wished that Yuju will gain her weight back, slowly but surely.
There was an interview saying she got her wisdom teeth out just so her company would give her a break. It would somewhat make sense for being off for a month (having to have the surgery, recover and then re-practice songs before being allowed to go on stage) and her being stressed with having to have the surgery as well as worried about going back to an absolutely insane schedule was probably why she lost so much weight.
I mean I've had that surgery done, my sister has, (all 5 of them) my brother has and a month is far more time then needed to recover from that, at the most I'd say a week. And I'm only saying a week because she has to sing and that might mess up the blood clot.
My sister was in a lot of pain after and she had most of her baby teeth pulled so she was surprised by the pain, still she was fine enough by a week, I didn't find the pain to be bad even though they had to cut mine out, I was out and about the same day but then I can handle a lot of pain. I never even took the pain killers they gave me as I didn't need them.
A good portion of this video is just Yuju falling on the stage :'( poor baby.
Even not in 2020 with their apple comeback she's still very thin. It's so sad to see her push herself time and time again. I just hope, if anything, she knows that many people love her voice and her beauty and her personality. She deserves so much praise and love
I agree, I noticed Yuju was still pretty thin for this comeback. However I noticed, unlike in Sunrise, she's got a bit more weight and her legs seem to have healthy muscles, so maybe she is working out more often. It also seems like they lost weight as a group for the concept. But I still worry about her.
I really think that yuju's hiatus has something with her mental health because no one is going off silent and coming back looking like that and soumu maybe didnt announce her reason of hiatus because they were afraid that it would make things worse for the girls.

I think yuju's sudden weight loss was either from stress, overwork, or a health issue. It's possible she was missing from activities because of medical testing/recovery from work but since they won't tell us, we can't know for sure

For some reason the part where they kept slipping on stage made me tear up :(. I remember that, when it went viral, and definitely how it was mostly yuju, that video made them a bit more popular. Now I just think about how tough Knetz were on the girls and for them to only give them slack after performing tirelessly so many times, only now justbecause of the rain they realize they’re being too harsh. I always felt like Yuju was going through series depression these past months..
1st problem: Started around the end of tftmn promotions; she had vocal chords damage
2nd problem: had influenza until two days before the "sunrise" release and couldn't recover
3rd problem: low self esteem
4th problem: being frustrated because her mother is dealing with a lot
So yeah I wouldn't call it depression, but pressure is a good definition I suppose

a true buddy didnt become a fan because of the looks... we became a fan because of their talent and mostly being funny. why would they criticize gfriend just for a small thing. yes being an idol needs tto be eye catching to the audience, but as i know gfriend is trying hard to be notice by many that they are hard working for what immature fans/haters are saying. when i heard about yuju became hiatus, what's on my mind that time that she's just sick and she needs to rest her voice for awhile. and when i saw many people sayinng that she had plastic surgery i didnt believe on it because i knew that yuju is beautiful the way she is. but i got worried to her body when she came back promoting and in the sunrise era, like she loss alot of weight in just a few months. i hope some of the buddies will keep on supporting on gfriend what will haters say to them lets protect gfriend anytime. aand for the perfectionist there i hope if you will complain about someone's looks that is harsh just keep it in yourself and just wait for the time that you can appreciate their looks.

I don't get why you find her "shut off". She's a more private idol but on camera she's always wild, goofy and funny. I find her to be a true dork (in a good way) at heart.
I relate very much with yuju and people tend to judge me because I'm quite shut off as well. That's really not my intention but it comes out like that sometime.. yuju is someone once you get to know her, it's impossible not to love her. She made a lot of sacrifices for gfriend. I really respect her a lot and even follow her till now. Thank God she looks happier in Konnect and her music is wow.. amazing as always.
These comments put by people honestly piss me off so much. The fact that Yuju is trying her best and feeling her best, and the only thing people focus on is her slumps and slopes. Appreciate real talent. The only reason she is like this is because she's working very hard and, for some reason, people often don't recognise that. It's not just about appearance, it's about presence and expression and actual skill, but nowadays, the only thing that matters is if you're skinny or fat. Please, don't.

I came here after listening to magio (a bop!) , Yuju was the only member I knew from gfriend and I always would recognise her right away but during this cb I was like were is yuju and then I realised that she’s in there , she looks so different after the weight loss. I was shocked when I did realise that that’s her. I hope she’s healthy

Honestly, Yuju singing "hold me" in Sunrise lives always touches my heart and makes me tear up. I suddenly wonder if it's not just regular emotion but true desperation in her voice that affects me. I think, girl idols want to become thinner because it will make they feel more confident in their outfits. You know, their outfits are sometimes too short and tight. So if their body is smaller, they can feel more comfortable wearing it.

I'm glad you posted this. I was one of the people who didn't like Yuju because she was thin. I never said those degrading comments or actively tried to insult her. However, I have not been with them for a long time and have only seen parts of their career. I am disappointed in myself for only looking at her body and weight and not seeing her talent or personality. I will work harder in the future to be more open-minded. I hope Yuju gets better and more comfortable in her own skin without having all these insults weighing her down.

For everyone who will watch this video in the future. She lost weight at the end of 2018. But it's August 2019 and I can tell you that she has her weight Back from the beginning of 2018. She also does now pole dance and has a sixpack. She also eat's really well again. :)

Whatever sickness she had, I think it was really serious and the company didn't want to say anything. I really don't see any difference in eyes, and it wouldn't cause her to drop 12lbs in such short amount of time when she's never done it before. I think she was violently ill and could hardly eat. She's hailed for her vocals, it's always been that way. I don't think her weight fluctuation is from bullying over her body or her own doing. Buddies are pretty vocal (no pun intended) about our love for her and it washes away a lot of the hate.

All KPop idols have haters, and they don't deserve to have it, they worked so hard to be their position. I hadn’t really realized that she lost so much weight prior to Sunrise promotions and her hiatus- I think I assumed she just looked slimmer because of the clothing choices.
I really do not feel like Yuju would be the kind to worry about getting surgery, losing a ton of weight, try to change herself even if she is insecure. Of course, I don’t know her, so I’m not going to say that that is truly how she is.
We all know that EXID’s Solji had issues with her health and weight, and she ended up being diagnosed with a thyroid disease. She was put on hiatus, had to get rehabilitation because of how bad her health had gotten from her thyroid, she had to get surgery on her eyes because there was so much swelling that they were protruding out of her sockets.
I wonder if Yuju could have developed an illness, and it really took to being active recently from promotion-stress. Don’t quote me, because this is simply my speculation- I just feel this is the most likely cause for what’s going on with Yuju.

“Lose weight” “put on weight” do the fans really realize that hateful and critical comments do have an effect on every idol? They’re human too. These girls are gorgeous and the weight they had on them was just as, I cannot and will never see how these so called “fans” of theirs are so critical about their appearances. How can you even consider yourself a fan if you’re being so hateful and critical? Keep all unnecessary comments to yourself. Watching these kinds of videos make me mad. They also make me feel sad and worried for the members and how they feels behind the scenes.

Weight loss made her cannot hit high note as she did before. I think the reasons start from her disappearance in a month. When she come back, she doesn't look as happy as before, even in tv shows like idol room or weekly idol. I hope she can gain weight again cause I love her voice, her energy on stage. hopefully since they were taken in by Bighit, they can help her too. I know Jimin and Yoongi both had body image/dieting issues and they've seemed to be so much happier recently, and Bighit allows for a lot more openness about mental health and (presumably) therapy considering Yoongi has admitted to being in therapy before and the company lets him talk about their (all of BTS') mental health in their music. We love you Yuju!
