Mina is a member of Gugudan, and pat winner/member of Produce 101, and has struggled with her weight since debut. Mina has been fat shamed and thin shammed and cannot seem to win public favor no matter how hard she tries.

That was my reaction when all that happened, I remember back when I.O.I promoted whatta man I remember I read a comment saying "it's so cool that fat mina it's not here" and then when gugudan cameback with a girl like me the same person commented "I loved cute chubby Mina!" BRUH

i know right? like what's their problem? what do they want from her? netizens want everyone to look like a skeleton. first they fat shame her, and shame her for losing weight, which is what they wanted?
those are likely different groups of people. the first group got what they wanted, so they stayed quiet and allowed the second group to have a more prominent voice. netizens aren't a hivemind, but multiple different people that for some reason are way louder when it comes to hating on people
it's not the same group of people... even back in produce 101 mina was picked as one of the girls who needed to lose weight (not by the public but by the producers themselves) and once the girls had a public concert/meet&greet mina said how she was aware of her weight and promised to work hard to lose weight for her fans... to her surprise everyone in the public came in unison to say she didnt need to lose any weight and that she was fine the way she was, mina looked genuinely surprised by this. her fans never had a problem with her weight, it was random people online who thought picking on a 16 year old was ok and some evil higher ups in the industry who thought she wasnt skinny enough to be an idol

@@mv6899 I don't really think that he weight was an issue. She went on a diet for the wrong reasons. The only reason that you should go on a diet is for yourself. If you realize that you are not taking care of your body properly by not eating healthy or exercising enough, that should be the time when you start carefully looking at what you eat. I wish that more people would think this way. In the beginning of Produce 101, she seemed to be pretty comfortable with her weight until viewers started criticizing her. She went on a diet because she that that if she lost weight, the hate would stop. It's very upsetting to see girls try and conform to other people's standards when the only person they really need to please is themselves.

I definitely remember a few minor people giving her crap for the weight but most people thought it was adorable. She referred to as cute and chubby.
She stopped eating for 12 days and weighed less than 42 kgs. She was severely underweight, having a BMI of only 15.88. This is not diet, it’s starvation.

To fast for any length of time at her age is incredibly damaging because her body is still trying to grow and develop, including brain development and hormone development. Heavily restricting calories during adolescence can impact these processes very negatively and in some people who suffer from anorexia at an early age, sometimes the effects of this are irreversible, and their bodies will never properly develop. A friend of mine was hospitalised for anorexia while we were still teenagers and she never really developed hips or a chest as a result of it. She is better now, but the effects are still with her to this day. I hope the idol industry changes to allow these girls to eat properly and not feel pressured to look a certain way.

they did her dirty with the white dress. it fit her terribly (too tight at the armpits). even covering the upper portion of the arms would have been an easy solution. this was the incident that got the ball rolling, if it hadn't happened maybe it wouldnt have become a "trend" to criticize her figure

Mina is one of those idols that does everything right but end up never getting back the amount of love they put in. She yo-yoed a lot after all the hate she was getting but she has always had an ideal of having a healthy body in all of her interviews. The hate has died down since 2018 and she's grown more confident. Despite no comeback her solo projects are going strong.

@@gwisin7986 I think that's for season 2, where they replaced a final lineup member for another. In the first season they saved a girl from getting eliminated in the earlier rounds, but then she did end up getting eliminated later on I think, but anyway, this didn't effect the final lineup.

im literally shaking in anger...she went through soo much, it hurt watching everyone hate on her continuously just because of her weight even tho she was so talented and adorable...she wasn't even that big either. oh no dont hate only the company they are not the main problem, is not their OWN thing, is the whole industry girl, no one can control what they eat or dont eat, for example chaeyoung and somi (when they were both jyp trainees) had to hide in a bathroom for eat udon because they didnt let them eat fast food, and they still find they way to do it. the thing to fix is not the companies, is the social think that skinny means pretty because if the idol wants to go into extreme diets (for this crappy social thing) they will find the way to do it and if they dont they will not

this breaks my heart because i have a similar body type to mina. my weight goes to my arms and has always made me extremely self-conscious to the point of refusing to wear anything sleeveless or very short sleeved for years and years. her body was never the problem, it was everyone around her. she trained and worked so hard and had the talent to PROVE it, but her body was always what was focused on till the end. she deserved so much better.

Mina is so strong, I really respect her for that. Even if I'm not that big of a fan, but I've watched IOI since Very3x and had followed her since then. And believe me when I tell you, she's one of my favorite person. Her smile is one of the things I like. She's also kind, have a good vocals and is a good dancer as well. She's pretty the way she is, I don't care.
Whenever I see a show which Mina is on, I will watch till the end. I do that to all artists I like. Last year, she acted on Hotel Del Luna. She was one of the reason why I watched it till the end. I started watching because I like the actors and actresses actually hehe including her of course. And I was so happy seeing her being an MC together with my favorite idols like Mark and Seongwoo :)) And I saw that she was sad when she had to stop being an MC on Music Core after 2 years and half, I think.
To end this, I just wanna say that I will support Mina whenever she try something new, act on a new drama, debut solo? Anything. I'll be here. Mina, fighting!! There's always people who will criticize us in whatever we do, but don't forget there's also people who willl be next to us, supporting us in our every step. I don't mean this to be long but I'm talking about Mina and honestly I have so much to talk about her. She's just so precious 🥺

When she stood up for Nayoung on that episode of PD101, I knew I wanted her in the top 11. She's charming on stage, a brilliant dancer, and she's extremely loyal. I also think she has such a determined personality to be able to continue after all the hate she's received.
I’m revisiting this video, and the fact that MNET aired an entire episode exclusively in response to and basically in support of the hate that Mina, a then seventeen year old, received is so foul. They literally exposed a child to damaging comments that they MAY (although, the chances are slim) have otherwise avoided and propped said comments up ! Mina was my Gugudan bias, and although they’ve since disbanded, I hope that she is in a good place mentally and feels supported, and I hope she knows she has true star power.. 💖

Well that is the very reason they do it in the first place. The whole system is putting pressure on young people and creating envy, pride, anxirty etc. Some people then take idols as their psychological vent, since they are seen as an image of the standards that are causing this, either fulfilling their fantazies or soaking the hate that netizens do as a coping mechanism of sort. That is the reason why its such a common thing in Korea and the industry leaders are making big names and cash for themselves at the cost of their own artists and fans. It is a form of softcore exlpoitation sublte enough to keep running in the background

i once was fat shamed by my own friend. she started to call me different names for example greedy, pig, fat, etc. i cried up all night and didn't ate well. i started to become thinner than before. i lost my self esteem and confidence in me. weeks after, my other friend who was worried at me, asked what happened so i told her. she told me that the same friend who fat shamed me, also did the same thing to her.
then i told my mom what happened, she told me that i wasn't even overweight. my friend was even you know 'heavier' than me.
bullying is not good like calling them short, fat, etc. we all have different appearances and that what makes us unique.

she is such a positive person and an advocate for health. she has always been very active, fit, and healthy, but she really transformed her body and toned up by going to the gym everyday and exercising for her health. she talks a lot about the gym and how much she loves working out and eating healthily. she loves sports and i feel like she has such great life balance. she's so young but she is already a great role model and she has a very optimistic, happy outlook on life ☺☺

and if you really do want to lose weight, i promise harsh diets aren’t the way to go. they can really damage your organ functions and cause bad long-term effects. you should instead change your nutrition and exercise level at a manageable pace that feels good for you. it may take longer, but you won’t wreak havoc on your body like intense idol diets do. 💖

She wasn't fat on produce, she was thick. Then on the concept evaluation, she lost weight. I thought she looked great! Good curves but not skinny to the point I'm concerned for her. Then I see how she dieted hard and was like "No idol or person should ever go through that". Unless she is severely overweight (idk 200 lbs) then yes, she should diet since that is very bad, but she wasn't. She was a good weight, and then people started to comment on awful things about how " fat" she is.

These people need to stop saying and praising it as "great self control". It's not self-control, it 's fear, sickness, mental health issues, and threats that's making them diet like this....*sigh stop praising diets..... just have a balanced and well-rounded LIFESTYLE. Diets are such short term ways to lose weight bcuz this is mostly you making yourself starve, not give in to cravings, and cutting out too many foods, that is literally the miserable way of living your entire life. If u don't feel miserable at all and u enjoy it, these idols needs to STOP calling it a diet then, ur long term results aren't due to DIETING it is due to FINALLY LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. I wish they were more educated on this, using the wrong term can give someone the wrong idea....

I used to watch produce 101 during the time it was filmed... I could read those comments trying to ignore them... Koreans are extra harsh to trainees, poor Mina, she is so kind and talented! Weight doesn't define your development and effort...
I truly like Mina, not for how she looked, but she gave me motivation to keep a smile on my face, and showed me how to stay happy and work with your talent and passion because that’s what defines you, not what your body looks like

Most of the time, trainees are still CHILDREN! Their bodies are still growing, changing, and developing; they're in a confusing, sensitive stage in life. It's disgusting how people (grown adults) think it's okay to bash on a child. Idols become even more confused because they get hate when they're "fat," and the same people will say they liked the idols old body once they lose weight.
If not starve themselves to death, the industry has unfortunately led to idols taking their own lives. I don't care if it's "culture." If you're harming someone else and putting them at risk, your culture needs to change. I'd love to see if the people who post stuff online can handle what idols go through for even a week.
