Sam seems like the most wholesome everyman. Like, there's nothing about him that comes off as edgy or polarizing, and he just comes off like a sincere and completely noncontroversial guy, who is just doing his best at his job, which he made for himself with his hard work because it was his dream to be a content creator and he pursued it wholeheartedly. And that's just nice. He just seems nice and like a guy that it would be hard to be enemies with. He's like the coworker who gets along amazingly with whoever they work with because who could dislike THAT guy? And there's a mix of warmth but also professionalism with Sam that does give very "everyone's favorite coworker" energy.

ours closed down last year, I miss the overly enthusiastic pre-recorded voice saying "welcome to KFC Pizza Hut Taco Bell!" and the tonal whiplash of the actual employee speaking right after, obviously wishing they were anywhere else in that moment. It made me giggle a little every time.
When I was hit by a drunk driver, I had to take two years off from work to recover from my injuries. I watched tons of movies during that time. The local Blockbuster gave me a Gold Card, which saved me a lot of money. I got serious discounts and special deals with it. The second year, the store manager told me that I was their #1 customer. I'd rented more than anyone else, about 800 movies in 12 months. It was a time of serious pain for me, and movies were an escape. I don't want to relive that time.

Dude the part about those of us who didn't always have the best childhoods was so unexpected but made me feel so included in this. Thanks man. Signed, a 31 year old kid.
Dude. The ending of this CRUSHED me (in a good way). You're completely spot on about it not being the end of your story if you're a survivor of abuse or just had a bad childhood in general. Renting a movie at Hollywood Video (we were a family of culture) were some of the ways my brothers and I escaped the abuse of our dad- he wouldn't dare do anything if we had friends over watching movies. Needless to say almost all of my core memories that aren't blocked out are going through the isles of Hollywood Video and Game Crazy picking out our weekly does of normal. Never thought I'd get so damn emotional over a guy eating pizza to Space Jam, but here I am. 10/10 video no notes.
93' here as well, completely agree with you what a time it was to be alive. We still got to enjoy the world before the tech got crazy like it is today.
1992 here, I know everyone says this about their childhood, but I really agree. Perfect combo of advancement of tech and old times, before social media and smart phones made life a hellscape.
There's something about the shot of the Cherry Pepsi, Pizza, Breadsticks on the red end table at 9:11 that made me actually cry. It hit something deep in me that I had completely forgotten. I then had to explain to my wife why my 31 year old ass was sobbing over a man eating pizza with Space Jam on in the background. I told her (paraphrasing) it's the fact that because of being always plugged in with our phones and the internet, we're robbed of moments like that.
Oh wow, this is so nostalgic. I’m 52, but I have children aged 18-32 and getting Friday night pizza and 3 videos was our big thrill for years and years.

I was born and raised in Bend and it has been so surreal seeing the Blockbuster I grew up going to become the last one on earth and a tourist attraction.
I can tell you are in my age range. Millennials, for the win. The late 90s/early 2000s still feel like yesterday, sometimes. It's crazy I'm nearly in my late 30s now.

Your end credit got my feel so deeply that my eyes are suddenly filled with tears. I grew up in late 90s in Shanghai. Similar dvd rental stores were also very popular around that time. I had fond memories of getting disney movies when going to the store with my Mom. My favorite was 101 dalmatians. I watched it so many times one summer that I could almost remember every line. I'm now a new mom. My son is about to turn 3 months and I'm constantly pondering on how to raise and educate him the best way I can. It happens that both of my parents are visiting. Looking at them wholeheartedly taking care of my son, it feels like I'm teleported back 30 years ago and watching at them taking care of me when I was a baby. They worked hard to do the best they can for me. I've been away from them since uni when I came to the US. I feel I'm forever grateful to them for all the things they've done for me. I also want to try my best to do the same for my son. Somehow your video triggered all those feelings.
I did not expect you to come to Bend! Lived in the area for the last 15 years and was just at that thrift store a couple of weeks ago. Great choice. Thanks for visiting, friend.
I was born in 2004 so Blockbuster was a very small part of my childhood, but I still remember going to Blockbuster with my brother and renting DVDs and it’s so strange how the nostalgic feeling of flicking through your favourite films at a Blockbuster is so universal, even for those born in the 90s and 00s. Such an amazing video that I did not expect to get me in my feels.
Thanks for the nostalgia hit, brother man. I remember going to the local blockbuster (now a furniture store) every Friday night with a $6.99 pizza with wings with my old man and dog. The dog has since passed and my father is in his late 60s. I’m pushing 30 and am so grateful for these small memories.
Hey Sam, I was more a child of the 80's / 90's, but the experience was the same. Weekends consisted of sleepovers with Blockbuster ('Short Circuit' being a standout favourite), Pizza Hut and Nintendo. Thanks for sharing!
I’m not even lying when I tell you that start at 9:52 of this video until the end, made me burst out into tears. I didn’t know how much I needed to hear that. Ur great
I don't have a lot going for me right now, and I can't get a job despite being reasonably qualified and sending out hundreds of apps. Sometimes it's hard not to think about ending it, but your videos keep me going. Hopefully it'll get better soon. Thanks Sam.
I grew up in Berlin Germany and was 17 y/o when the wall fell. I loved my high school and traveling around Berlin in the double decker bus and underground trains was so much fun. Including the bars.
I have a small vhs collection (and vcr) just so I can have these nostalgia nights in my apt. Watching the previews really takes me back. Also got back into skating as an adult and NEED to hit up my local rink's adult night. Great video!
This definitely brought back some memories for me. Just about every Friday I would get my dad to take me to Blockbuster, but instead of renting a movie I would usually rent a Sega Genesis game. If the game was fun, I would usually play it all weekend and it would go back Sunday
Consistently some of the best videos on RUclips 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Loved blockbuster I remember the huge character cutouts they had on the walls at mine - when they closed I bought one of the “next register please” signs for like $2 and still have it 😢
As someone who grew up in the early 2000s and went to Blockbuster almost every Friday as a kid, this video has me so in my feels. Thanks for helping me remember a piece of my childhood again Sam
Sam, you continue to be just an absolutely lovely human being. I so appreciate you always taking the time to address potential mental health aspects in everything you do.
OH MY GOODNESS. When you mentioned Now 5, I almost screamed. THE BEST NOW ALBUM FOR SURE!!!! I was an introvert kid/teen, so I constantly listened to Now 5 while playing PC games. Thanks for shouting it out!!!!
Awesome memories of waiting by the drop box at Blockbuster then when we would hear "returns" hit we would ask the employee what movies just came back in.
I was born in '86 and going to the local Family Video was something I did many times per week. My Grandma would take me to rent movies and games growing up, and we even continued going there with my young son all the way up until about 2020. We went the last day they were open and bought a few things to remember them by and we still talk about missing the place and wishing we could go back. Even my now 10 year old remembers it.
I'm very glad your month of taco bell helped me find this channel. Definitely one of my new favorite RUclipsrs! Love each video you put out, keep em coming!! Also sad day yesterday with the USMNT, I assume you're a soccer fan from your pullover
From the Walkman, to the Kentaco hut, and of course to the Blockbuster.. this video got me in my nostalgic feels, the reliving of my childhood, where family outings is all I ever looked forward to.. now people barely leave there rooms unless it’s to go get drinks. This video made me tear up, and truly made me wish I had a Delorean Time Machine to relive my childhood all over again
Such a cool concept for a video. Growing up entirely in the 2000s, I wish I could go back and relive the sleepovers me and this one friend had. He introduced me to Minecraft, and we had many sleepovers where'd we just played it all night long. I remember our local Blockbuster, but we also just checked out DVDs and video games from our library for free.
Great video. Brings back alot of memories. The 90's were the golden era especially for video games and of course classic movies! I remember enjoying a more simple life of playing games, watching movies and reading magazines pre-internet!
That is also exactly my childhood, from space jam to blockbuster to pop-corn and snacks, also roller-skating, and very thankful to my parents. And I'm not even from the states I'm from Barcelona in Catalonia. This video touched me and the one where you support the washington generals, it made me laugh a lot, you're gonna be an awesome father I can tell. Subscribed for life. Marcel Escoda
My friend’s uncle owned the Alaska blockbusters that were the second-to-last vestige in the US, and the ones that John Oliver donated the Russell Crowe memorabilia to
i started to feel really cynical hearing your sentiments for your parents at the end, because of my own painful childhood, but your message about great stuff ahead made me tear up 🥲 beautiful ending
Wow! I was just reading about this last Blockbuster. This really is nostalgic. I used to love going to Blockbuster, and other video/video game rental stores, renting movies and games. Skipping ("I'm sick mom, cough cough") school when I rented the SNES and Super Mario World. Great video as always!!
Born in the late 60's, I remember only having a black and white TV with rabbit ears and 2 channels. Born of a time before movie rentals, where drive-in movie theaters and roller skating were the thing. As a teenager, we started getting movie rentals. We would make popcorn in our air popper with real butter in a huge bowl, and my Dad would eat most of it. Haha. Thanks for bringing me back, Sam. You make this world a better place. 🥹🫠🤗
One of my favorite childhood memories was playing manhunt or flashlight tag with ask the other kids in the neighborhood on a balmy summer night. Summer as a kid in the 90s/ early 2000s was just a thing of beauty
I remember going to Blockbuster and getting a movie and then going home and watching it. We still call the empty building the blockbuster building even though it was an urgent care for a while. Just recently became empty again. Also at my local Blockbuster, they had video game rentals. My brother and I would rent games sometimes and it let us try it for a cheaper price than buying it. I remember renting Battlefront 2 for the PS2 and loving it so much Santa got it for us for Christmas that year. I have BF2 (2008) on PC and still play it from time to time just to get that feeling I had playing it back in the day.
I worked at Hollywood Video, so much fun; never hated a day of work back then. Great video Sam! You looked so happy 🥹 Thanks for the nostalgia! Great soundtrack to the vid too 🤌 Ps: Glad you didn’t get dysentery on the Oregon Trail 😅 And most importantly: Thank you for always telling us it’s gonna be ok 🫶 really needed to hear that today.
That was a really touching ending!! I didn’t have a super great childhood but idk, that was nice to watch. I also bought a vhs Panasonic tube tv with a dvd player - I gotta say, nothing feels quite as good as picking from the library of media you own and leaving your phone in another room on DND. Here’s hoping maybe one day blockbuster comes back!
That ending was amazing! You looked so happy roller skating, I'm sad to say that at only 27 I can't do it anymore without falling over. Thanks Sam for another great episode! PS, $10 for all of that is an amazing deal
I have so many great memories of blockbuster in Canada. We have ROGERS video as well and I always used to rent PSU games from there growing up. I found a lot of gems that way I still hold a special place to my heart when blockbuster introduced the late fees it was like a dream come true you could rent a movie hold it , and have great viewing parties with friends during sleepovers blockbuster was a special kind of place
You are such a good storyteller it's unreal. From the concept, scripting, bringing it to life.. heck, I even liked the brand deal you put into it! Keep finding wacky video ideas like this Sam, they're so much fun to watch
Blockbuster and choices rental in the UK is a really good memory for me, so i feel lucky. Going on a weekend to rent out N64 and then GameCube/PS2 games was amazing, and working out what games would be good for my twin and I to get for Christmas.
Sam, the end of this video made me so happy. I have an eight-month-old daughter and this is my driving parenting force - I want her to have a childhood worth looking back on with nostalgia. That doesn’t mean it needs to be extravagant, either. Simple joys are everything to kids.
Sam, your videos are always hits and I never miss one. Your great humor, tremendous storytelling, and heartfelt endings are what make you stand out. This makes you my favorite RUclipsr. Keep up the amazing work man!
I was just there on June 13th. It was so wonderful to relive that and of course my kids didn’t understand my love of Blockbuster. I’m glad I was able to share it with them, even though it they didn’t know why video rental stores existed. 😂
I absolutely love how you end your videos, especially this one. You are one of my favorite creators. I really hope your channel blows up. You deserve so much more recognition.
I’m 17 and I used to live in Oregon. One time I went to Bend and believe me, going to Blockbuster felt incredible. It feels good knowing I’m probably the only teen in my state who’s been to Blockbuster
Your skills at story telling and bringing EVERY video back to a positive and uplifting message is unbelievable. So much respect and admiration for what you are doing. It deserves 10x more love.
Sam, you are a phenomenal RUclipsr who finds me invested all the time in whatever you do. It’s rare for me to be this committed to watching your videos especially when my attention span is as short as it has become based on tiktok and other short form content. I think it’s because you’re well spoken, naturally interesting and unapologetically yourself. Wishing you the best and keep going bro. Best RUclipsr out there right now (as someone who’s watched RUclips for 12+ years)
I was born in 1975 so I remember Blockbuster opening and VCRs becoming a thing. This totally looks like my teenage years. Thanks for the awesome look back and the meaningful messages at the end.
I grew up a video store fanatic, then when I got out of the Marines in 2008, I got a college job at my hometown Blockbuster during it's final year or so of operation. I remember getting the notifications in the mail that they had filed bankruptcy, and that the location I used to go to/work at, had closed. RIP to that whole era, simpler time, etc.
Sam's soundtracks are always good, but the 2000s nostalgia in this video is perfect. His roller rink pic slaps! I definitely remember that being on the radio all the time.
I was in tears at the end of your video. I personally had a really bad and rough childhood. I’m doing much better now. There are few good things that happened as I grew up and that’s what kept me going. Amazing video. Keep up the good work.
I'm an 02 baby and I remember going to the local Hollywood Video and Blockbusters, they were actually both in the same parking lot. Great times being able to pick out candies and snacks. It was sad to see them close and truly I miss those days before tech got so crazy. I'd do anything to go back to relive those memories, but I know I would be alone if I did. Make the best of what is happening right now, make your future self proud, make them feel even more nostalgic of the good days. And as long as you always do that, the nostalgia won't hurt as much
Growing up in the 90’s made this hit hard. And your monologue at the end was very emotional. As a 34 year old father of 2 I totally get it. I’ve told my parents more than once that I understand why now. Different things for each of them but now that my daughters are 5 and 2 I totally understand why they did some of the things they did when I was growing up. And on the flip side experiencing some of my favorite childhood memories with my children now comes full circle in a way that you can only explain when you experience it yourself. Thank you Sam for sharing your experience with us.
I spent a few months in Oregon last summer and Bend was one of the coolest cities I spent some time in. If you're ever back out there again, check out Big Ski's Pierogis food truck, delicious stuff.

This video made me tear up, and truly made me wish I had a Delorean Time Machine to relive my childhood all over again
Sam “can’t miss” Reid!!! This video was sick: I was born right in the height of blockbuster (2003). Great video
WHY DO YOU ALWAYS MAKE ME CRY
Such a cool concept for a video.
Growing up entirely in the 2000s, I wish I could go back and relive the sleepovers me and this one friend had. He introduced me to Minecraft, and we had many sleepovers where'd we just played it all night long.
I remember our local Blockbuster, but we also just checked out DVDs and video games from our library for free.
I used to work in a video rental store. Hands down one of the best jobs I've had! Thanks for the video, Sam!
What you said at the end is so touching and kind!
This channel deserves so much more, thanks for the memories Sam ❤
When I was 21 I worked as an assistant manager at the Hollywood video, which is basically a knockoff blockbuster. I feel so old now
Born in the late 60's, I remember only having a black and white TV with rabbit ears and 2 channels.
Great soundtrack to the vid too 🤌
Ps: Glad you didn’t get dysentery on the Oregon Trail 😅
And most importantly: Thank you for always telling us it’s gonna be ok 🫶 really needed to hear that today.
It's gonna be okay!!!!🙂 as I recall... Friday nights, from work to Blockbuster... a movie night!
I’ve seen every video that you upload, and i’ll keep saying it, this is the best channel on youtube, bar none. we love your positivity!!
This one was a breath of fresh air. Thank you.
Misty eyed at the end, great video as always.
Sreid Sauce! Didn’t realize I’d be crying at the end of this video. Great stuff. You’re gonna be a great dad someday!
You are sooo underrated!!! Like genuinely, one of my favorite creators on RUclips.
Best RUclipsr out there right now (as someone who’s watched RUclips for 12+ years)
This video was pure gold!!!
Came for an old video store, left with unexpected positivity and kindness.
Sam's soundtracks are always good, but the 2000s nostalgia in this video is perfect. His roller rink pic slaps! I definitely remember that being on the radio all the time.
Dude I love your videos! You are one of the most underrated creators on RUclips!
Man, idk how but you seem to get better and better at writing and eliciting emotion out of the viewer through your videos.
grew up right behind one. Ill never forget the vibes walking around there
I was in tears at the end of your video. I personally had a really bad and rough childhood. I’m doing much better now. There are few good things that happened as I grew up and that’s what kept me going.
Amazing video. Keep up the good work.
Awesome choice of Coldplay song at the end...that got me right in the feels. Cue the one single tear running down my cheek. 😥
Really touching. Thank you for including us ❤
I spent a few months in Oregon last summer and Bend was one of the coolest cities I spent some time in. If you're ever back out there again, check out Big Ski's Pierogis food truck, delicious stuff.
I appreciate the last bit of mentioning those who didn't have a great childhood ❤
I can’t wait to see your channel blow up!! The time and effort you put into your videos really shows and has inspired me to make project based videos!!! 🤗
I still remember that blockbuster smell. I just texted my parents too, thanks for the reminder
