@@ReinaPerez-l3q Still usually healthier than non-vegan junk food, but yes, junk food of any kind is not healthy. But a healthy vegan meal beats a healthy non-vegan meal.
My mom is Seventh-day Adventist from sundown Friday until sundown. Saturday is the sabbath you are not to buy sell or trade anything, it is even in the Bible unless you’ donkey is in a ditch. You are not to do any kind of work is a vegan and vegetarian diet but you can eat meat you just can’t eat pork or scavengers of the sea. I myself am not a Seventh-day Adventist. I am just a Christian, but Sunday is the first day of the week and Saturday is the seventh day and that’s when the Lord took rest if you don’t know about it right up in your king James version Bible. You’re also not supposed to listen to anything but Christian music during those 24 hours and you are not supposed to watch television, in the Bible, it says to remember the sabbath day, and to keep it holy. If you want to know about Seventh-day Adventist, I can tell you all about it.
Hey Will! I lost 50lbs and kept it off bc of your vids! Always entertaining and educational and I always share with my friends and my parents friends too! Everyone is loving your stuff!
In 2016, I worked at a major US bank in Loma Linda across the street from the Loma Linda Hospital. I would literally see 90 year olds doing cartwheels in the bank lobby! It was incredible to see how strong these 90-something year olds were. They all had something in common, they were all Seventh Day Adventist and all were vegetarians. I loved working in Loma Linda because businesses had to be closed before sundown on Friday and closed on Saturday. It was great not to have to work on Saturdays because most banks were opened in other cities. Lunch breaks were a pain because I had to drive to San Bernardino to get fast food such as McDonald's and In-N-Out Burger.
I highly doubt vegetarianism is the reason and probably more to do with the fact they are health conscious in general. A steak isn’t bad for you, a steak lathered in butter and salt is. Anyone who cuts out unhealthy foods will live longer. Meat is not one of those foods
@@FastfatfuriousSugar is the big one to avoid and is in everything in one form or another. Ironically butter and fat do not make you fat as that's simply not how your body processes them.
This is such a classy, funny, entertaining video I’m vegan and I really appreciated this and your commentary was everything. I love how you made that old man laugh about the McDonald’s joke. It was so genuine, and I feel like he needed that.
Many countries that have long living residents, such as Japan, Hong Kong, and a city like Loma Linda all have similarities like not eating as much red meat, being active, and being part of a community for socializing. That's literally the secret to living a long healthy life. Side note, Loma Linda being right next to one of the most dangerous cities is such a stark contrast lol.
@@DaPeasant im not american lol, im korean, in korea the biggest killer in America is 100% their ultra processed foods, its not even a debate, the only reason these vegans are living longer is they're inadvertently avoiding those franchise processed foods with those vegan options some of the other blue zones eat daily meat, there's even one blue zone where they're practically drunk off red wine 24/7, the only thing all blue zones have in common is the rare combo of no ultra processed foods + first world medical care, since most places with first world medical care also have an abundance of ultra processed foods as for the portions, it's fine as long as you burn it off, most people don't in america though, though not "directly" a health issue, it is a huge obesity contributor which then leads to other health issues but in this topic, just keeping a healthy weight won't be enough to reach the longevity of the people in these blue zones, were talking about 100 years old, not 70, these obese people you're talking about don't even make it to 70
@@DaPeasantThe chemicals are the problem. There's a correlation of increasing heart disease after the production of vegetable/seed oils when before it was exclusively animal fats. Corn syrup and soy products are also in highly processed and those aren't exactly healthy. It's in so many products.
You are great man, I like how you interact with a lot of different people that are putting their energy to become better and not only some gym-bros like other channels
Will’s info was on point and the interactions were so wholesome! I feel double blue zoned as I grew up as an Adventist in Costa Rica with both lifestyles mixed in. Have been vegetarian most of life, vegan for 11 years. I have always felt at ease about my lifestyle choices and great about my overall health!
Yeah I’m from the UK and my best friend moved to the US and he gained a lot of weight. Their portions are huge and they don’t have an FDA like us so their food is full of sh*t.
They have to put up signs not to feed them because they are so friendly they will eat out of your car window. Also when I ride my bike in those hills sometimes they trot along with me lol
Beef jerky doesn’t have to be super processed. It’s literally lean thin sliced beef just dehydrated at low temps. You can season it, but you don’t have to add a bunch of crap that packaged jerkies have.
Exactly, the best indicator of good health and longevity is lean body mass. Only meat, healthy meat, will make that happen. So many disgusting seed oils and chemicals in that "food".
OMG WILL I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WERE IN LOMA LINDA. I don't live there but I live in the town right next to it but its crazy how you did a video on Loma Linda. Its a very quiet and reserved city mostly known for loma linda university and loma linda hospital. I'm not surprised that its a city who deeply values health.
That guy is so confusing bc he clearly answered no to being vegan but then he said “are we still friends” about will eating meat and said being vegan keeps u alive longer so he’s giving me mixed signals 😭 is he vegan or not
@@edithsmith4485it’s not the veganism that makes people live longer. It’s the healthly culture in the place where people constantly move and work out. That vegan food in the end is just as, if not more, calories than real meat it was pretending to be. It’s the calories in v calories out. Not the macros. Not the sugar. Straight calorie balance that matter when talking about overall health.
I loved Loma Linda growing up. My father passed away at the VA hospital there when I was 10. I got a summer job there when I was 15. Loved the city, just walking around is peaceful.
His comment about portion sizes and the burrito being a premie at Chipotle is a pretty spot-on. It's the crux of what is wrong with the SAD and our love huge portions of hyper-processed fast food
But then he eats vegan sausage which is undoubtedly hyper processed. I'd say chicken at chipotle with some rice beans and salsa is far more natural than any imitation meat product. I respect vegans who eat real food.
Lol moved on to hyper processed fake beef jerky. No chance the people living the long healthy lives are eating that stuff. That's for the 300lb gen z vegans.
@@PleaseNo-p7nthat’s one thing I didn’t quite understand,a lot of vegan substitutes are very highly processed and have so many ingredients that aren’t really good for you.Real meat is not bad in moderation along with dairy.I don’t necessarily think the people are living so long because they are vegan or vegetarian but more because they eat more fruits and veggies and have smaller portions than the average American and are fairly active
Hearing Will explain SDA Sabbath was adorable. It’s like listening to my great grandma explain Metallicas music. Confusing and slightly off point. I love you Will.
As a vegan, I love how Will is so open to trying the vegan food even though it might be out of his comfort zone or not what he really eats in his day to day, and I really applaud him for it
I welcome you to come out of your comfort zone and try some elk steak with me. I personally hunt for elk, butcher, and cook it. Sustainable, unprocessed, and fresh.
Most non-vegans will eat vegan food, we see nothing wrong with it. There is an Asian place in Southern California called Sipz. That place is awesome but it is only something I have with my vegan friends and at most a few times a year because like Will said the majority of it is heavily processed and high calorie.
It's not out of his comfort zone. His girlfriend used to be plant based and he's made vegan content before. He probably just doesn't want to spotlight veganism too much because he will lose diehard meat eating followers. Veganism is about what's right, not what's popular.

I always look forward to your videos and I really appreciate your open mindedness to experiencing our way of living. Imagine a city mayor just decided: We are banning meat and living over 100. Meanwhile any other city „How could we stop kids from drinking alcohol? It’s impossible.“
Hey, great video! Honest perspective, especially on the vegetarian food! I gotta try that breakfast burrito at the cafe you went to in the beginning. My daughter works in that same building, in the media dept making movies for the church. That was cool to see my MOM, Loida!!! She was the one playing pickleball. And the trails....that's where I've been mountain biking and coaching homeschool kids to ride mtn bikes for almost 30 years. Lots of cool trails of all levels. Glad you got to hike it! I remember when the McD's was coming in, and all the commotion. You actually got one of my colleagues talking about the danger of McDs towards our kids! LOL! Glad you got the Vegan District...that's one of the more recent restaurants here in town and a good one--I like going there. In that area, there are a ton of eating places. You must've visited that Romanian church during the middle of the week--it's not always open. In fact, it's literally like a few blocks from my house where I live. Was curious during your walk on campus, it was empty--when did you shoot this? Were we in between quarters? Was this during the summer when there were no students around? With 8 different schools at Loma Linda University, we have about 3,000 students on campus so it's usually busy all over the place, especially between classes. So you must've caught it at a dead time. You're right about the number of churches in the Loma Linda area. We have a lot of different ethnic and multi-cultural churches in Loma Linda and the surrounding cities, a lot of them SDA but other denominations as well. Thanks for showcasing our hometown and workplace! You did a great job showing LL as the Blue Zone.
Thank you for mentioning that this was probably filmed during a dead season. I thought it looked a bit dystopian not having any people around. It looks like an interesting place and I would definitely want to learn more.
To the diet weenies, it certainly looks wholesome, but as with any utopian community, there is always something sinister lurking just beneath the surface. Indeed Loma Linda is looking to me more and more like that Mormon polygamy town between Utah and Arizona.
I am late to Will's channels but bro you are a very humble dude. I am sure you have your own stresses in life but your personality is destressing, your videos are like a sense of calmness.
As a vegan, I just have to thank you for being so open and respectful! I feel like there a lot of content creators who will purposefully pretend the food is bad to make a point lol- so thanks for bringing more awareness to how amazing the dishes can be!
Vegan for over 20 years. Processed vegan food has come a long way in terms of taste. I never thought I'd see the day when my meat-eating friends would be excited to join me at my favorite vegan restaurants. Whatever your diet, include more UNPROCESSED, plant-based foods - and weightlift. :))))))
Of all the Blue Zones, Loma Linda is the only one that contains a high proportion of vegetarians. Other blue zones will eat some meat, ect. If you ask google about this, it will give you articles that instead tell you that all of them are vegetarian, cause of course it would. Blue zones tend to drink (wine) and have some smoking involved, things that typically aren't viewed as healthy ideas. The way they live, and food quality, have everything to do with why they live longer lives.
While quite a few of them do eat meat, smoke, and drink, it's all in extreme moderation. Smoking is far less common in blue zones, alcohol consumption is often social and limited, and meat tends to be from locally available sources (often fish, which have miriad health benefits) and they tend to limit their protein intake to what almost all bodybuilders would call "suboptimal." For example, Okinawa (Japan's blue zone) eats about 9-15% of their calories from protein. And! Like you said, the way they live tends to be one of the biggest factors.
@@879PC Right. I really wanted to make the point that they aren't vegans or vegetarians. Just cause I know many people believe that's what all the blue zones do. Thanks for the added information too!
@@879PC Do you have any sources on this? On Okinawa mainly. Everyone says something different for total amount of meat/fish/protein eaten. Ive heard they love pork but then don't eat a lot of pork. Some people say the low meat was because they were surveyed right after ww2 when they didnt have as much meat to eat but thats not how they normally eat. Ive also heard they don't have as many centenarians as is claimed and rather they have bad data. Ive yet to see any good source on any of this so now Im asking a random youtube commenter in hopes for something lol. Okinawa is the exception though. Other blue zones eat more animal products although I havent seen any good sources on this either. I have heard from people that live in some of those places. People in Sardinia for example have said they eat more meat than what people seem to think. Thats just anecdotal though. Bodybuilders do need more protein to be fair. Most people in Okinawa aint lifting weights and trying to build muscle. Im not a bodybuilder but I do lift and I wish I could get away with 15% protein because carbs and fat are just tastier. Ive tried it and my lifting pretty quickly started to suffer.
Hey, Will! Awesome video! I'm a Seventh-Day Adventist myself. Not vegetarian, but it's true it's quite common to be one if you're SDA. The Sabbath is something that quite a few people are starting to acknowledge as vital. You don't have to be a Christian to incorporate rest as a crucial part of your life. All the best, keep up the great work! :)

And the one on hospitality lane is in a high traffic area too.

I highly doubt vegetarianism is the reason and probably more to do with the fact they are health conscious in general. A steak isn’t bad for you, a steak lathered in butter and salt is. Anyone who cuts out unhealthy foods will live longer. Meat is not one of those foods

Many countries that have long living residents, such as Japan, Hong Kong, and a city like Loma Linda all have similarities like not eating as much red meat, being active, and being part of a community for socializing. That's literally the secret to living a long healthy life. Side note, Loma Linda being right next to one of the most dangerous cities is such a stark contrast lol.
japan and hong kong eats alot of red meat tho, it's mostly cuz their food isn't processed to all hell being 50% chemicals like most american foods lol
@@DaPeasant im not american lol, im korean, in korea
the biggest killer in America is 100% their ultra processed foods, its not even a debate, the only reason these vegans are living longer is they're inadvertently avoiding those franchise processed foods with those vegan options
some of the other blue zones eat daily meat, there's even one blue zone where they're practically drunk off red wine 24/7, the only thing all blue zones have in common is the rare combo of no ultra processed foods + first world medical care, since most places with first world medical care also have an abundance of ultra processed foods
as for the portions, it's fine as long as you burn it off, most people don't in america though, though not "directly" a health issue, it is a huge obesity contributor which then leads to other health issues
but in this topic, just keeping a healthy weight won't be enough to reach the longevity of the people in these blue zones, were talking about 100 years old, not 70, these obese people you're talking about don't even make it to 70
@@DaPeasantThe chemicals are the problem. There's a correlation of increasing heart disease after the production of vegetable/seed oils when before it was exclusively animal fats. Corn syrup and soy products are also in highly processed and those aren't exactly healthy. It's in so many products.

You can try to have a perfect diet, but all (I think) blue zones have in common something very difficult to achieve: low stress.
Thanks for the insight
