Hi again Gareth, here in China one of my neighbours was sending her son off to school each day with a very expensive Australian steak pie bought from a high-end supermarket in the city. I decided to try one, the Pukka reminds me of it very much. Took it home, heated it up, cut into it to find the majority of the filling was fresh air along with just 24g of meat! As I have my own micro-bakery I set to and produced pies guaranteed to contain at least 100g of the finest beef. I can sell these all day at less than half the cost of the Australian pie and with an excellent profit margin. Just goes to show what these large food conglomerates take or try to take from our pockets….
Incidentally, MSG occurs naturally in lotsa foods including tomatoes and mushrooms so you’re eating it without realising it! It’s had such a bad press over the years but in moderation, won’t hurt you at all….
There was a scandalous news report in the 1970s in America slamming and damn in MSG. It was completely made up and exaggerated in the media, as a result 99.9% of Americans, 40 years later, think MSG will kill you faster than cyanide!! They're a strange bunch!

I've always found that you don't get as much filling as you are led to expect with the Pukka pies. They do taste nice tho. The one I'd buy is the cheapest. Good flavour and good value.
You rarely do get a full pie imo with the vast majority of brands and even restaurants. You've got to go to Turners Pies or something and then you're paying silly money but it's good. Cheap Pukkas on offer are tasty enough but never expect it spilling with meat.
I like Morrison’s Steak pies for pure value and the shortcrust pastry is a winner. I buy two and take the tops off both, then empty the contents of one into the other and discard the pastry casing. Beautiful and a cheep tasty meal.

Gareth, I recently bought a pack of four Holland's Cheese and Onion Pies. The cooking instructions stated they could be cooked in the oven or microwaved. Three minutes from frozen sounded absurd, but I tried it and of course after three minutes they were almost still frozen. In the 1970's Holland's pies were a staple at my local fish & chip shops, today the chippy's are selling Pukka pies instead. The only place I see Holland's pies for sale is in freezer shops and supermarkets. I tend to buy luxury pies these days like "Harry Ramsden's" steak pie from Iceland, it's a bit pricey at £4, but it's packed with prime steak in a rich gravy.
Brilliant. I only discovered you the other day and I think now I must have watched your entire back catalogue. You need to copyright "mmmmmmmmmm" as your new catch phrase 👍.
Maybe an idea for future videos (if editing allows) would be to put up a table showing a comparison of weight, price, cost per 100g (example), fat content, salt etc. It definitely would appeal to me for comparison 😊
Damn fascinating, as I microwave whatever was available from the store in Los Angeles - frozen food items that actually taste good get difficult to find sometimes. It's a shame you don't have a Sainsbury's near you - at the time of filming I used to regularly buy Pukka pies from there and they were £1.00 each on offer. That would significantly help budget-wise :) Great review though 😁
Controversial, but I like my pies with a tin of soup poured over. For example for a minced beef and onion I'd have heinz oxtail. Meat and potato I like pea and ham or baxters cock-a-leekie. It's a common thing in Preston (home of the butter pie btw) but my partner from Manchester thinks its minging. I think it's just free a gravy (or liquor if your a cockney) Some of my friends like a tin of heinz tomato with a cheese and onion but that's not a combo I like. What's your view on the matter?

Cheers Lee, thank you 👍👍
Having sampled a Morrisons pie fresh out of the oven in the store, I can recommend them.
Yes I will try and get in early
It would be nice to see you investigate the world of pickles and chutneys one of these days.
My own favourite being Brinjal/Aubergine pickle. Heavenly to taste.
Goes well with Curries, Cheese and cold cuts of meat. Available as Pateks Aubergine pickle from Tesco. There are other makes of this pickle to.
Always a pleasure fallowing you Gavin. Take care mate.
Great suggestion!
@@BaldFoodieGuy thanks Gavin
Couldn't think of anything worse to eat....but heyho each to there own.
Top top channel 👏 its right up my street , real man doing real affordable food reviews 👌 👍 I predict this channel will blow up into a massive earner for him and well deserved if it does.

Great video BFG... I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you review these... I need to admit I nearly unsubbed when you reviewed the big Mac I think huge names like Macdonald's have already been over reviewed but videos like this we need more of.... For me pukka pie is winner but only because I love their pastry
Yes cheers Mark as a foodie I cover everything im sorry.
It's a shame you don't have a Sainsbury's near you - at the time of filming I used to regularly buy Pukka pies from there and they were £1.00 each on offer. That would significantly help budget-wise :)
Great review though 😁
Got a pukka minced beef and onion pie in the oven now for breakfast lol 😋
Yummy
Iceland stopped using Palm Oil in all it's products since 31st December 2018.
Value for money wise the Morrison is hard to beat, but the Pukka certainly wins on appearance... keep up the good work 👍
Cheers Chris yes by a hair 👍👍
They all looked tasty 😋 happy days 😊
Cheers Tracey👍👍
Controversial, but I like my pies with a tin of soup poured over. For example for a minced beef and onion I'd have heinz oxtail. Meat and potato I like pea and ham or baxters cock-a-leekie. It's a common thing in Preston (home of the butter pie btw) but my partner from Manchester thinks its minging. I think it's just free a gravy (or liquor if your a cockney) Some of my friends like a tin of heinz tomato with a cheese and onion but that's not a combo I like. What's your view on the matter?
sounds delicious that, no good when your on the move but i like the idea.
Hello mate, there is nothing wrong with MSG, infact a lot of chefs will use it.
It's in loads of foods and sauces. Bisto, ketchup, crisps. Pringles have loads
Thank you for the video and do they do Chicken xx
Cheers Nicola xx
What the hell am I doing, watching a fella eat pies LOL. Good on you chap.
