The Iceland ones are pretty decent. The chicken can be a tiny bit of the rubbery or crunchy side very occasionally, but for the price they’re good. Sadly some snobs around in the comments who clearly aren’t affected by the cost of living crisis and feel the need to criticise budget food.

those iceland curries are absolutely banging but I'm not a fan of the "Takeaway" rice though. I often get the Tilda Lime & Coriander Pilau instead which you can get £1 in ASDA or sometimes Poundshops - especially good for spicier curries like this as the citrus flavour balances the spice perfectly. Shallow fry a chapati in oil until it's crispy and you have yourself an epic curry for £5

Try the veetee rice. I've found it to be the best microwave rice by far. These days it usually comes in a 2 pack. Basically two small portions in a split pot thingy. But just do both of them. Asda do them.

My issue with these supermarket curries is they use reformed chicken. Yes it is breast but it's flayed off the carcass and then reformed into a piece of meat as opposed to cut off a piece of breast meat. At that price point though you can't be too picky. I'd rather use a Patak's spice pot and make my own curries using tastier thigh meat.

My local Indian curry house does a top notch vindaloo with naan bread cooked to order, but it isn't cheap, just great. On the other hand I always keep Iceland vindaloo's in my freezer, which come in handy on movie nights without having to order a takeaway. I also have to admit I never really shopped at Iceland until I watched your videos on RUclips. But now my freezer holds a good stock of their products based on your trials of their meals. OK, so going back to the vindaloo's. The frozen ones might not have the same heat of a takeaway, but they still hit the taste buds where it matters. I absolutely love the "oil slick of goodness"! And really please the £2 Heron won. I've never been a fan of the Iceland chicken pieces - they feel very processed (well they are!) so unless they're free - they had a storecard offer a couple of weeks ago where if you bough anything you got a free curry! - I stick with the beef madras, which is the only non-chicken meat curry Iceland does. But that Heron sauce looks very smooth. BTW, I've yet to try the Home Bargains curry, which looking at it frozen does look like better chicken than Iceland. I think that's £2.49. Do give it a go - if they haven't got in one HB, you can walk to the other - the Wetherspoons is about half way! 🍻

I make my own curries and have iceland curries if I can't be bothered to cook. They are decent but they taste nothing like the name on the packet lol.

Hi Gareth, hope this finds you well. The Heron vindaloo looked immense. I'd love to try that one and what a great price. As you say, 2 of them with pilau rice, chips and a nan. Excellent. Mate I was wondering if you would review different brands of Turkey gravy. I'd be interested to see what the winner is. Cheers fella it's beer time for the football. 😁🍺

Hi Gareth so glad you have reviewed these curries mate, I went to a Heron's shop last week and bought the Mayflower curry n chips you reviewed a while ago and enjoyed them also bought the Beef Madras and rice and Chicken Bhuna and Chicken Vindaloo, the Beef Madras was a bit tough and chewy but edible and nice n spicy and would buy again, haven't tried the Chicken Vindaloo yet, have you tried Sainsbury's Hot Chicken Tikka Masala? hell that's really nice n hot!

I don't know if you just review supermarket stuff, or also cook?! If you search for 'Pork vindaloo Mallika Basu', you'll learn how to make the proper traditional vindaloo. It is actually very different to vindaloo curries in so called Indian restaurants, but absolutely beautiful. Super simple to make too! I also learned another chicken dish from her called 'chicken kadai'! That is also on here and it's absolutely gorgeous.

I'm rally disappointed with Iceland frozen food all the " Improved Recipies" I've no idea how they can improve any as they were good to start with. I'm sure it's a market ploy just to get us to buy them again. Their New Improved Egg Fried Rice is shocking. I've put a complaint in to Iceland as it's inedible. Just mush after being in the microwave. Now I have had the New improved Chicken Vindaloo and can't work out whats been improved. I think they change the boxs and add 50p on that and call it improved lol. Also great videos mate. Have a great Christmas and New Year to you and your family.

The one from Heron is much better value. I don't think a 5 🌶 one would agree with me, but will try a different one from that range.
Good review. I know I would feel unwell at the smell of the Iceland one. I HATE cloves. There should be a law against them!

Brings back memories of Cambridge, the curry Queen, Mill Road. I don't suppose it's there anymore, but maybe. I'm just doing myself a pork dahnsac, I think it's spelt like that. No French people for dinner this evening so I give it some heat.

Nearest Heron Foods is hours away from here, but I used to love the Iceland vindaloo when it first came out, but they sadly 'improved' it, and as is often the case, spoiled it. Our family now has the Asda £1.60 tinned vindaloo, instead, think you have reviewed it yourself Gareth. Take care and thank you.

With the Iceland meal I would guess the chicken might have come from Poland as it seems to be its go to place for chicken and it's also packed in the eu as well
