- Nando's Piri Piri chicken is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with fish and chips and a full english breakfast, but what is the difference between a cheap Wetherspoons version and a Nando's version? Well in this video I head inside 2 of the biggest UK restaurant chains Wetherspoons and Nando's to try out their grilled chicken to see who is best!

I only found this channel last night, no matter how much the channel deserves subs, it won’t happen until viewers find it and decide to subscribe.
Nando's used to be worth it, however they have shrunk their portions and increased their prices too much for me. A lot of the copycat grill places are worth visiting over Nando's now.

@@lindalewis7559 I find Franzos and Pepe's really good, with the last one it really depends on the branch you visit. Out of these 2, I think Franzos is better.
Those Wetherspoon chicken portions come ready cooked and vacuum packed, and that's why they have a weird stringy but soft texture. They're nothing like real char grilled chicken to me, although I did still find it...edible.
It depends on the branch of Wetherspoon's. I live near two (Harrogate and Knaresborough) and the quality in both is good, never had a dry one -- plus you get a full pot of coleslaw. Good value if you want a beer or glass of wine with it, which is included in the price. Beer and wine prices at Nando's are extortionate and they seem to be breeding their chickens on the small size these days.

The Wetherpoons chicken did look quite dry. My partner has tried Spoons and Nando’s and the later wins every time. But spoons is what it is. The price point between the two isn’t much difference, I would personally pay that wee bit more for a Nando’s. Good vlog tho. Niamh x

I agree about which was better, but the costs were very different. Both were decent I think in their price brackets 👍😉.
I think its worth it to get the Nando's, the taste difference is quite big
@@everydayimeating3407 That's certainly true for sure 👌 - although I tend to prefer to eat in non-chain restaurants run by individuals or couples/families, which tend at various price points to be much better (otherwise they'd soon lose custom and go out of business), but there's a place for chain eateries too. For special meals we almost always go to local restaurants which have recent good reviews, although changes of chefs mean reputations can go down as well as up at short notice 😉.
The prices are so different, you can't really do a comparison, when one costs nearly twice as much
Nando's the clear winner here. Would you be prepared to try the hot n spicy version of the Wetherspoons one?

Another excellent described chicken meal options. I not visited Weatherspoons for long while and as you pointed out that chicken looked very dry, needed more than the garlic sauce to overcome that. Maybe that explains why I've read some their establishments around Country shutting down and I haven't missed much. The Nando wins hands down, simply as chicken was crispy on outside, looked moist and easy to slice through as it should do. The crispy looking chips in both eateries looked very moorish. Also thought both establishments looked easy on the eye to attract customers through the door. Must admit not visited Leeds in many years but from your various reviews, they have an abundance of delightfully sited eateries which I'd certainly try out the next time visit the City. Keep up your enjoyable reviews. 👏

My first Nando's was in Sea Point (Capetown) in 1992. It was brilliant! We found our first UK Nando's by Ealing Comon Station, and like Capetown the breast meat was moist and the skin was crispy. As more restaurants opened, the quality started to go down. Haven't been to Nando's for about 5 years
The Ealing Common one was the very first UK branch.
I agree quality was better before.
I miss Nandos. Wish they would open one in Cornwall

To be honest, the only thing I've ever had from Wetherspoons is their full English breakfast and their fish and chips, so I can't judge their chicken, but I'll have to give Nando's a go looks like, it looked pretty good. Great review.
How do you rate their Fish & Chips compared to an actual Chippy?
@adamkane7513 The ones I had were pretty good. Not as good as ones I get from a chip shop. The piece of fish was kind of small.
I've tried both and wetherspoons came way in front, I won't be going to nandos ever again!.

Nando's for sure, get some fish and chips but not in a restaurant or pub, go to a dedicated fish and chip shop, and a full english breakfast
I had wetherspoons chicken at Perranporth in Cornwall and it was disgusting. I wish they would open a Nandos here. Brilliant review thanks 👍
Boneless chicken thighs is my goto meal usually at Nandos as the chicken is more moist and tender!
I can also recommend the grilled chicken burger with a grilled pineapple too, as this combo compliments it well! 👍
P.S. You can get away from not paying the 95p for the PERinaise by asking for some tubs of mayonnaise and adding and mixing the peri sauces of your own choice! 🤪

I've only eaten at Nando's once and was not impressed. The food quality was okay, but I found the portions too small and the prices too high. I've had the Wetherspoons chicken twice, both the lemon, and the spicy. They weren't dry and I enjoyed both.
i love a spoons but never had a nandos. my money is with the spoons for price and it looks really nice

Nandos pre cook the chicken in steam ovens and finish on grill.
They source the chips from McCain but different recipe to supermarket.
Nandos is very expensive for what it is, you can buy all the nandos stuff from supermarkets and make a better one for half the price... Looks good though....
Nandos is definitely better but it's definitely more expensive too. If you can afford it go Nandos, if you're on a budget you're not really missing out because spoons is great value.

I moved from my town to North,no Nandos here..My husband and I used to have Nandos once a week..2 years ago..9.99 with 2 sides..After watching your video and saying the price..My husband and I mouths dropped. 18 Quid for a bit of chicken and chips? How do they justify that?..Chicken is one of the cheapest meat. I can go to my lovely local restaurant and have Ribeye steak,chips,peas,tomato, mushrooms. We were thinking of going to the next town for Nandos, no way. Rip off.
Most weekdays at wetherspoons they do a different club where they have offers. for example thursday is curry club you can get the meal for cheaper.
I had the Hot & Spicy half chicken with spicy rice a few days ago. It was moist, both coleslaw and Naga dip were nearly full. It was a delicious meal. I have not tried the Lemon and Herb.
Spoons is good for the money, but it's clearly frozen chicken hence the texture and dryness. Nando's has fantastic chicken but need to look at their sides to justify the prices they ask.
It's vacuum packed like those lamb shanks some pubs use.

I love Wetherspoons and Nando’s although if we go to Spoons I tend to just have a jacket potato or something these days as I try not to have chips very often and Nando’s has more choice of healthier sides. I’ve had Wetherspoons chicken and chips before and enjoyed it but always too many chips lol

One winner to me. JDW. For your £10 you could have had a pint of good beer included. I've never had that chicken as I go for mixed grill in JDW and jacket potato and salad including alcoholic drink . Way less than Nandos. Fine if you have the cash to splash.

Agree Nando's better but then the cost was about £8 extra to witherspoon's. More cash to buy better ingredients. Although that said no excuse for the poor portion of coleslaw

I've had the other half grilled chicken at Wetherspoons with the Naga Chilli and citrus glaze with naga sauce... its fab .
Your Nando's did look a lot better than mine when l tried them out for the first time last year it put me off .

I have it on good authority that most if not all weatherspoons menu is mostly bought in frozen then microwaved to order, that's the only reason they can have an extensive menu
The only things that are actually good are the breakfasts and the chicken wings x 10 tbh...
Yes you can easily see the Nandos meal is better in every way, because i hate dry chicken i would pay the extra at Nandos.

Nandos looked better more juicy I reckon the dark meat is my fave! Get a bag of thighs and drumsticks coat in natural yoghurt and garlic and lemon and bake delicious! Good vid though EIE!

Nando's hands down, just pay the extra, as it's totally worth it to avoid that lame chicken dinner at Wetherspoons. Nando's coleslaw looked freshly made with parsley in it, and you got a proper portion, and the chicken looked delicious! 😋

Living in the US, am not familiar with either one. However, based on your video, Nando’s beats Wetherspoon’s. Better chicken quality, normal sized portion of coleslaw (crucial from my POV) and just more appetizing overall.

I get 10 chicken wings medium hot peri peri sauce with chips corn on the cob and coleslaw that's my combo 😋 👌 weatherspoons food is horrible comes in a packet as an ex chef I've seen it all before comes in blue bags 🤣 I like your channel next try a proper pub food at each pub and see what the quality is like not weatherspoons lool
Nando's hands down by the look of it. Never had either but Wetherspoons just looked edible but not yummily enjoyable like Nando's did. Way worth the extra. What's the point in eating out if you're served food that isn't that great.

When it comes to which is better, the Nandos did look better, however at that price it ought too. You need to do it again but aking sure that the Spoons chicken was cooked properly, then it would be a much fairer comparison
The reason for the large menu at Wetherspoons, most of the food is: " ping- ping " or "dip-dip splash "😢 lower price, but also lower quality. Nando's more expensive, but far better quality 😊. I would say more fries than chips. The Spoons chicken was to dry to enjoy.And the "sides" dolly's tiny tea size!😢 All round a better deal at Nando's . My pick every time. Keep vloging

You saying something is... okay... is like most of us saying we'll be back later that night to burn the restaurant to the ground for serving us such swill. My problem with the first place is that dirt cheap rotisserie chicken from Walmart here in the US (a full chicken and at half the price) looks vastly better. Now, Nando's, on the the other hand, looked fantastic. I'd be happy to pay those prices for chicken cooked that well.
I fear this is the Rocky 4 of your food matchups, someone should have been screaming "stop the damn fight." Nando's all the way, every day in this one.
I would just cook it at home for way cheaper lol . They sell all these nanos sauces now. 😊 save money 😊.x

That meal at Spoons was a rare one from there that I was quite disappointed with I'm afraid.
I’m not sure this is a fair comparison. That’s what Nando’s “specialise” in Weatherspoons is more of a value for money type establishment. If Nando’s didn’t win this there doing something wrong! ….. Smithy
Chips look better at Weatherspoons but chicken and sides look better at Nandos. Just waiting for you to drop the price because never been there but heard Nandos is expensive.

I took my daughter and her friend to The Leeds Grand the other night. I suggested Nando’s in Trinity (as I’d never had one and she rates it) - she wanted to go to Giraffe instead 🙄somewhere else I’d never been. Gotta say they did a lovely katsu curry - stingy portion though.

Weatherspoons is probably microwaved lol. Nandos every time!
Most of spoons stuff comes in already cooked and just microwaved as required, then charred on the grill if needed. Even the bacon!!! Relation works in the kitchen. It’s just a ready meal.
Wetherspoons coleslaw portion was pitiful. I'd have complained.
“The proof is in the pudding” is inaccurate, it should be “The proof of the pudding is in the eating”.
I had Nando's lemon & herb chicken with my girlfriend a few years back. I found it pretty average overall, it had zero flavour of lemon & herb, i just ended up using the free sauces for flavour instead. The chicken itself was alright, just a bit plain and not worth the price.

Nando's chicken boiled before it hits the store and then grilled before it reaches your plate , the reason it's moist.
I've nothing against boiled chicken as it's actually a healthy way of cooking but neither of these franchise's offering the real deal and quiet expensive considering how they're prepared.
