The title reminded me of when Ainsley Harriet brought out a range of sausages with Sainsbury's, the packaging had a picture of Ainsley holding a fork and the words 'Prick With A Fork' 😂
They look alright, altho my local butcher (who is 2 doors away from Tesco) do 20 for £4.99. You can chose from 6 types, And the choices include Pork and Apple, and Sticky Maple. I would opt for the fresh butchers every time.
Think you mixed the hot dogs up. The herbs seem to have swapped into the other hot dogs when you were eating them. It might explain why the first hot dog was sweeter. It was actually the maple one.
The best sausages are simple, the absolute best I've had are from Pipers farm, and they are literally saddleback pork, salt and pepper, that's it and they are beautiful. That said, I do like German sausages, but I guess they're not really fussy either are they, they are just what they are.
I'm an old ex-pat Pom retired and living in a country town in Victoria Australia. I love sausages, but trying to find decent sausages where I live is really difficult. Perhaps I am too fussy, but I still believe, after travelling extensively around the world and living in Australia for 47 years, that the best sausages in the world are to be found in England, (and perhaps Germany). My favourites are Lincolnshire sausages. I always looked forward to my trips to England and a chance to get some really good Lincolnshire sausages. I have found a local supermarket that sells a variety of English style sausages, including Lincolnshire, which are of an acceptable quality, and I tend to buy those whenever I can get them, but I do still miss the real thing.
Another stellar review Mr BFG. I prefer brioche buns to normal buns. Great for burgers. I know Tesco clubcard can be divisive, but i think you can get some great deals (& top up your points too!) 😊
I do like the various flavour you can get in some sausages. That said, I'm not keen on plain pork. When I do a fry up, I usually use Bratwurst sausages. For the BBQ I just go for the Bockwurst sausage for my hotdogs. Of course in the US, they use either a wiener or a frankfurter, and across the country they use 100% beef sausage for their dogs. In New York they usually mix the fried onion with some tomato paste and a sort of brown mustard, which I have not seen before. I did like the look of those brioche buns you used as well, so I will be searching them out in the future. 👍👍👍. Keep up the good work 👍👍.
We generally get the mid range premade sausages £4 - £4.50 per kilo Cumberland or Lincolnshire Sausages normaly. For anything premium we just make our own from pork shoulder and pork belly, works out to about £5 -£5,50 a kilo going DIY, make a big batch and freeze them. I'll make some coronation flavoured sausages for the coronation bank holiday weekend using dried apricots and curry seasoning with a coronation flavoured sauce. Simple plan for the coronation weekend burgers/bangers/beer or the 3 B's as we call it locally. If you plan on celebrating the coronation I would recommend getting as much as possable now rather than later considering how much goes out of stock normally let alone on a bank hoiliday weekend with coronation parties etc. Burger baps and hotdog rolls will be in short supply i suspect 6th to 8th may.
Gareth, I don't know what to say! They do look delicious. It's made me hungry. I tend to use a fork to prick the skin on sausages, so they don't split and break open. But those onions... It's a perfect match. When one thing goes with another it works. Like pork and apple sauce, lamb and mint, ham and mustard. My grandad on mother's side used to put mustard on ham until it made his eyes water. And he loved it. And I've inherited that. I love mustard on ham. I don't know if you can put mustard on sausage. I think it's probably HP sauce. Mustard goes on ham. And it's got to be hot English mustard.
Like you Gareth, I like the proper Cumberland sausage, the coarser the better, bone, gristle the lot. I also like the traditional butchers continuous beef sausage.
Just watched this... you've gone up hugely in my admiration. Just how did you do the sausage show without bursting out laughing? Or are there 27 outtakes?
hi gareth thanks for review on the sausages they look ok but you cannot beat the good old cumberland sausage they are meaty and delicious whatever you have with them. have a great weekend keep well keep safe
I always slice open sausages after cooking and grill them slightly as I am not one for under-cooked sausages. Also makes it easier to place in a bun. Also I put mustard, red and brown sauce on mine.
looks good I've tried the hot dog ones ok but still prefer Cumberland. Typical British BBQ burnt on the outside raw in the middle. But a good army smooker was always a nice respite from the cookhouse.
I have just tried the Tesco sausages. I slowly fried mine in shallow oil. I also got Tesco smoky streaky bacon and fried that. I cut my bun like yours, added Tesco's barbecue sauce, put in 3 rashes of bacon, then added cheese sauce, then the sausage and topped off with American mustard and tomato ketchup. Really tasty 👍😋
That french's mustard lid... push it all they way back and it clicks/locks in place so the mustard comes out and not caught in the lid They looked good 👌🏼 been having the Asda version of the hot dog ones for couple years. Not keen on flavoured sausages
Hi there, another great video like always very interesting to watch. I do enjoy watching your video and have a great review like always. I hope you’re well
Good review gaz. Luv a good sausage. May i just correct myself about asda crispy duck, its not eight quid its six fifty! I was looking at the whole duck and thought the price was for the crispy duck. Ive got the aldi one to try over weekend( ad well as wagoo burgers!) regards Steve.👍
aldi's frozen pork sausage is my goto..just pork and 16 of them for about £1.70... in the oven for about 25/30 mins at 160 degrees..sausage and mash or sausage egg and chips..perfect
i can still remember as a child having brockwurst, fries and mayonaise in a tray while my father was stationed in Germany with the army in the sixties. Yum yum - the best sausage ever and as a child it seemed to be over a foot long!!!
It's summer in June ok keep up the good work I tried by Sainsbury's summer chips they were very very very good I had with them is Peppa Mayo it was ok❤
The ‘e’mark means its average weight. So for example, a punnet of cherry tomatoes might be 250g, but it may weigh just under, or just over, depending on the weight of each tomato. Keep up the good work - we watch your posts every day, usually while eating our dinner😊
So now they reduced the amount to four in a pack now...charging same price as six!!! ? Supermarkets really are ripping people off right now and getting away with it!! x Remember when you always used to get eight in a pack of sausages!!
Cheers Gareth, I don't know why they feel the need to mess around with a good old pork sausage. I will not go anywhere near them next time I am in Tesco. 😁
Great review Gaz , but did you get the labels mixed up at the end? The New York one seemed reddish and the maple was paler with herbs when you first opened them? ...or do I need to make a trip to Specsavers 🤓
Plain ol' pork for me! These looked nice but a bit plasticky if you know what I mean! Mayo and tomato ketchup with mustard, marriage made in heaven! Enjoyed this post 😊😊
You can’t have a hot dog without onions on it - whether it’s a proper hot dog with a frankfurter or a standard banger! Butter the bun for “slippage juice” - and don’t be stingy with the butter!
I personally don't mind the Clubcard scheme with the lower prices, I understand why some people have an issue with it but I always use a Clubcard anyway for scan as you shop which makes it much easier for me to track how much I'm spending as I'm cutting about the shop, no surprises at the checkout.

It always surprises me how badly designed some hot dog rolls are considering they snap into two when you add the sausage in....
Most people cut them wrong and slash them on the top which makes them fall apart instead of cutting them on the side like you're supposed to.
because thety are old / me baker
