Currywurst is usually served by just cutting the sausage into small pieces (they drop it into a machine that chops it up lengthways) onto a paper plate (like the small flat cardboard thing for a small portion of fries) and covered with curry sauce and served with a bread roll (Brötchen) on the side. Never seen it served like a hot dog. The Bratwurst looks ok.

There was a Frittenbude near the tram stop just up the road from my apartment and they still served Fritten and Wurst till about 11 pm. The husband and wife team made enough money over the years to take over the lease of a pub that was even closer. They still sold Bratwurst though.
Glad to see you back to content, after the scam issue. Resilience is key when people try to destroy what you are building for you and your loved ones. All the best to you Gareth.
I make my own with Bratwurst from Lidl about £2.50 for six so with a roll it would cost about 75p each. Plenty of recipes online on how to make a genuine currywurst sauce.
They looked ideal for a late week or weekend treat if you don`t want to pay out for a Takeaway. I`d defo get 2 goes out of a pack cos i`d have a pile of wedges and Garlic Mushrooms as well+ good that you can separate them and put 1 back in the freezer. Another great vid as usual. You will find that all of the prepared foods are loaded with salt. As you get accustomed to using less salt, you will become more sensitive to the salt in them. I can't even eat certain things anymore (and I used to put salt on just about EVERYTHING) . Cheers Pat in New Jersey
Nice one Gaz it's about time Aldi started to sell Bratwurst/Currywurst always loved them when going to Germany/Austria. You're right about the salt though when you try and cut down you tend to notice it more when there's a lot of it and the same with sugar.
@@Mark1405Leeds They dissappeared many years before Brexit a long with pretty much all the traditional German food they used to sell.Which I always thought was a shame seeing as it's a German store but I guess not enough Brits were buying the stuff. Lidl still sell Bratwursts though.

I think these aren't great value, as you could just pop to lidl and grab a pack of 6 brats for £2.49 and all the other bits n pieces for not much more and way more for your money!
Not too mention the currywurst kit isn't that nice. The sausages have a strange taste, they added to much of that smokey flavouring. I wouldn't buy the kit again & only did as it was £2. You could buy their large sausages 10 for £3.50, the difference is that they taste better and have 90% pork. Or their Cumberland sausages that taste really good, 8 for £1.79. Buy the rolls you like and make a sauce. I make a cheese sauce/roux adding the seasoning to the butter before adding flour. Any left over sauce can be added to macaroni.
We really like bratwurst, usually get them from Lidl who do a normal and a chilli version. Last time I bought some was June and I think they were on offer at £1.99 for a pack of 6. Expect thats ended now. Don't bother with bread (gluten intolerance) just eat them with a dollop of sauerkraut and strong mustard.
The crusty bun would put me off. I'd probably defrost them overnight and toast the open side myself. Come to think of it, the sausages would also probably be better defrosted and cooked in a pan or on the grill. You should try the new fake Nando's from Aldi - the peri-peri chips are especially good.
@@nowayjose668 I'd blame the packaging. It says "Bratwurst Meal Kit" on the box, and "Cracovian Smoked Sausage" on the plastic bag in which the sausages are sealed. Krakauer, like their Polish cousins "Krakowska" are most definitely smoked. Strictly speaking the former is a "Räucherwurst" (smoked sausage), but I thought that saying so would be a tad long-winded, if not pedantic. Besides, my main interest was merely to explain what "Cracovian" meant.
Great video Gareth. If you read the ingredients, they will be listed in order of decreasing amount - so Pork being first on the list is still the main ingredient. Turkey (or chicken) is actually quite a common additive to some of the budget priced German sausages, so really not that big a deal. In the end the final test is the eating - and I think I will definitely be trying them soon.
In Germany, a Krakower (Cracowian) is usually not sold as a Bratwurst (which just translates as fried sausage). They are usually more expensive as bigger and smoked. Also, the original Currywurst (in Berlin) is not made with Bratwurst, but with a sort of boiled sausage.... Confusion. Admittedly Bratwurst is often used outside of Berlin, eg in western Germany.

I could not begin to count the number of bratties I've consumed over the years, but I have never had a smoked bratty. German hot dogs are the best. Oktoberfest markets are incredible. You can't beat it. Some of the best hot dogs you'll taste. Well done Aldi for giving us a taste of this!

Thanks for putting in the effort for the video. The protein content seems reasonably high. Just for me personally, seems a complicated cooking method. If you're going to do a ready meal then fork fork fork, microwave, stir, microwave, wait, eat.
Lived out in germany for 3 years 2016-2019 in a place called heidelberg, 20 minutes from mannheim and about an hour from frankfurt. They look pretty similar to what you get out there to be fair.
I bought the curryvurst one this week from Aldi and you’re bang right it was very very salty. The sausage was every time I took a bite. I drunk 3 pints of water to get it down. It must be a mistake as that just wasn’t enjoyable.

I think bratwurst because you remarked on the texture of the curry wurst . Thank you so much, appreciate seeing new food
My memories of my time with the air force in Germany were that bratwurst were never smoked, and currywurst was just a bratty cooked, chopped up and covered in a tomato ketchup sauce sprinkled with curry powder. There was never much turkey going on.
I love kielbasa. I ran a pub some years ago and worked with a Polish chef. He ran a stall on the local market selling the best "hot dogs" I ever had. As I was running the pub kitchen on my own my wife suggested I needed help and we took T on. He was as daft as me and we soon had hot dogs on the menu. They were killers. He was a bit reticent about it all but we agreed that they should be served with Sauerkraut, gherkins and polish mustard (of which there are many kinds). They were a hit. To this day whenever I can I'll hit a polish store for supplies. There was a big polish supermarket in Peterborough, I could spend hours in there. I'm not knocking British sausages in any, (Watkins Butchers in Grantham are the best Lincolnshire sausages ever). Love your reviews! I wasn't hungry, I've just had boiled bacon, potatoes and carrots but I'm gonna have to go get a snack.
I bought the smoked one last week on my way home from work and I've just cooked it and eating some of it about five minutes ago and I have to say I really wasn't keen on the smoked one so I'm going to buy the curry one on the way to work tonight as hopefully it's better than the smoked one great review as usual Gaz
Hey Gareth brilliant video. I was wondering if you could do a video on British supermarket protein sources on a budget considering the higher cost of living. Cheers.
The more you cut salt down, the more sensitive to it you'll become, and find processed foods like these FAR too salty. If I read the nutrition right in your vid, two of these sausages contains more than your entire recommended salt intake (6g) for a whole day!!! Alright for a very rare treat but continued excess salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. They do look tasty tho😋👍
Got a comparison for you Gaz. Asda Just essentials spaghetti bolognaise versus Asda Just essentials spaghetti bolognaise, chilled and frozen. Essentially (pun intended) the same item but around £1 difference. Same with the lasagne and others.
I have absolutely no idea why but, I love smoked bacon, smoked fish (except cold smoked salmon, hot smoked is delicious) and smoked cheese but, I absolutely hate smoked sausage and strong smoked flavour barbecue sauce!
Its strange that Aldi dont do the packs of German sausages whereas Lidl have a big range of Bratwurst, Bockwurst sausages + Fridakellen or whatever, but these look good value TBH
Lidl generally stick to the niche or quirkier side of things where Aldi offer more conventional alternatives to M&S. On the whole I do far prefer Aldi for a big shop, as it feels more 'proper' in terms of having everything for me, and I feel the quality is a bit better...but Lidl can be fun to look around - especially the middle aisle and bakery. I find that there are a lot of standard items Lidl either don't stock or don't do a particularly great version of compared with Aldi though. The weird thing about Lidl is that they have far more advanced tills and an app system, but the shop itself doesn't feel finished in terms of the range of goods.
I love the LIDL frikadellen balls. Not so different to Swedish meatballs (the Swedes will hate me for this). In German week they also do Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle).
make the curry wurst sauce , ketchup and curry powder , and mix chop the bratty an cover with the curry ketchup , 15 years in the army in BAOR Germany, all over the platz never saw the in a bun only with the fritz covered in thick mayo
It reminds me of the old Mitch Hedburg joke "We've got turkey burgers, turkey sausage, turkey baloney, turkey pastrami, someone needs to say hey turkey, dude just be yourself" 😂
Turkey seems to be a filler! I often see this now. Also in burgers. Turkey is tasting quite bad, I don't know why! I think they use the rests of turkey. A good Bratwurst should not contain turkey or lower turkey. But a good Bratwurst can also contain liver and other pieces of pork. Anyway. It tastes nice, then why not.
Defo going to give those a whirl. Look loverly. Not a patch on a proper wurst in the Fatherland I'm sure, but it'll be a nice reminder and a change. Great vid Mr BFG, thanks. 🙂

I really need to confront my phobia of German sausages...
But I fear the wurst.
👏👏👏👏😉
They are not in Aldi's where I live but would love to try them. love pork sausages, especially Cumberland sausages.
Hi Trevor try the Specially Selected Smoky Pork Hot Dogs they're great if they sell them.
These look amazing,I've never actually tried Currywurst :O , Gaz i come across in Tesco "Frenches taste of america" line and they have "Honey & Chipole".."Buttermilk Chicken" "Carolina Chicken" "Nashville Chicken" etc They're basically like a seasoning kit and you add your own bits etc,Look amazing..in my local store they're quite hidden on an end near where the pop and biscuits are of all places,Obviously could be different in your local but would love for you to give one of those a go on your channel :)
Cheers for the tip off
@@BaldFoodieGuy please give that one ago and review it
German hot dogs are the best. Oktoberfest markets are incredible. You can't beat it. Some of the best hot dogs you'll taste. Well done Aldi for giving us a taste of this!
Danish Hot Dogs would give them a run for the money! The toppings on them are Delish'
@@Dave.Thatcher1 Sounds good . I will have to try them .
Bring back memories living in Germany, the old bratty stands Pomfret, some mayonnaise
Bratwurst with ketchup and curry powder. Cant go wrong 👌
Love your accent and the Northern terminology…. It reminds me of the great one and only “Fred Dibnah”… who in my mind was the greatest representative of the North and it’s achievements that ever lived… 👍🏻
As others have said cheaper to make your own
Yeah salt is crazy in processed foods and I agree you notice it more when you eat better foods for a while. Same with sugars.
Thanks for putting in the effort for the video. The protein content seems reasonably high.
Just for me personally, seems a complicated cooking method. If you're going to do a ready meal then fork fork fork, microwave, stir, microwave, wait, eat.
They looked lovely. I’d have gone for the smoked one first I think. Another good review.
Cheers pal
Lived out in germany for 3 years 2016-2019 in a place called heidelberg, 20 minutes from mannheim and about an hour from frankfurt. They look pretty similar to what you get out there to be fair.
Tip..drop the sauce sachet in a cup of boiling water..2 mins to heat up..then cut open and pour.
Who ever thought a man eating food would be entertaining but you are amazing all the best 👍
Haha cheers
The best shop bought hot dogs are Rollover, or the Aldi ones in a glass jar. Bratwurst is usually beef or veal. Bockwurst is pork.
I do chuckle when you say how much the price is. 😂
Keep up the brilliant work x
Thank you 😁
I bought the curryvurst one this week from Aldi and you’re bang right it was very very salty. The sausage was every time I took a bite. I drunk 3 pints of water to get it down. It must be a mistake as that just wasn’t enjoyable.
*I say, they look phenomenal- awesome review bald foodie guy on these new Aldi meal kits 👌🙌🔥🔥🔥*Now,if Aldi could do a good all day breakfast, including a proper egg and the full compliment of breakfast items,it will be phwoooaaar
Your taste buds must be adjusting to your healthier lifestyle. I think bratwurst because you remarked on the texture of the curry wurst . Thank you so much, appreciate seeing new food
Now the German curry sauce is sooo nice
My memories of my time with the air force in Germany were that bratwurst were never smoked, and currywurst was just a bratty cooked, chopped up and covered in a tomato ketchup sauce sprinkled with curry powder. There was never much turkey going on.
is the mustard zempf which i had in my squaddie days, loved em all bratties, currywurst, gyros
Oh not sure mate. Tasty though
Lovely to see you again, I will do mine with veggie sausages, and maybe some of the sauce with wholemeal buns as well. Thank you for the video xx
Lovely idea that could be my lunch tomorrow 😊
I bought the smoked one last week on my way home from work and I've just cooked it and eating some of it about five minutes ago and I have to say I really wasn't keen on the smoked one so I'm going to buy the curry one on the way to work tonight as hopefully it's better than the smoked one great review as usual Gaz
Sounds great!
Hey Gareth, don't get your Wursts mixed up !!!!! 🤪😂😂😂😂 (@7:18 mins X-rated)
Haha 👍
Hey Gareth brilliant video. I was wondering if you could do a video on British supermarket protein sources on a budget considering the higher cost of living. Cheers.
The more you cut salt down, the more sensitive to it you'll become, and find processed foods like these FAR too salty. If I read the nutrition right in your vid, two of these sausages contains more than your entire recommended salt intake (6g) for a whole day!!! Alright for a very rare treat but continued excess salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. They do look tasty tho😋👍
Cheers for the information 👍
There's absolutely no way that I'm not trying the curry one!!!!!!
I too had a sausage breakfast. English style Saveloy split on a Turkish roll with thin sliced Spanish onion with Australian spicy BBQ sauce, yummy.
Got a comparison for you Gaz. Asda Just essentials spaghetti bolognaise versus Asda Just essentials spaghetti bolognaise, chilled and frozen. Essentially (pun intended) the same item but around £1 difference. Same with the lasagne and others.
Nice one Terry
I suggest the brat on a bed of hot saurkraut as good "slipage juice" then assemble to your liking...
I have absolutely no idea why but, I love smoked bacon, smoked fish (except cold smoked salmon, hot smoked is delicious) and smoked cheese but, I absolutely hate smoked sausage and strong smoked flavour barbecue sauce!
It’s a bit of fun, if there tasty that’s all that matters. Farmfoods we’re doing a pack of them very very cheap. But this does look good.
For slingers (sausages )you need Colman's English mustard first then maybe a dash of HP, fruity or regular up to you anything else is just not cricket
Both those products look good Gareth and a good price too.
I would definitely try the Bratwurst
make the curry wurst sauce , ketchup and curry powder , and mix chop the bratty an cover with the curry ketchup , 15 years in the army in BAOR Germany, all over the platz never saw the in a bun only with the fritz covered in thick mayo
German food generally in my experience is very good 👍
its the opposite in australia when it comes to salt these days especially with hot chips and savoury snack's.
Which one was the best and which one was the wurst?
It reminds me of the old Mitch Hedburg joke "We've got turkey burgers, turkey sausage, turkey baloney, turkey pastrami, someone needs to say hey turkey, dude just be yourself" 😂
Nice to see the diet is going well😂
Love that saying ( it’s all gone out the window today ) 😂😂 think you might have to postpone master chef for a while though 🤔
crispy onions are the winner, will have to give them a try, thanks. the value is spot on too, lovelyyyyy
used to eat these sausages when my dad was in the army and we were stationed all over Germany! awe man i need these in my life stat 😂😂😂
I had my last Bratty in Hamburg a few weeks ago. If it's half as good will give it a try !
I'm cooking this tonight after seeing it last week while shopping and I'm back here again 😂
Love the gyro box
Always enjoyed a curry wurst or two on a night out in Germany back in the 90’s serving with BAOR! 😋
Did you notice how bernard matthews have released chicken drummers to replace their turkey ones 😭 They don't taste anything like they used to 💔
Lidl also have lots of Oktoberfest products this week , And there Wursts are not frozen ,also Beer 😊
Defo going to give those a whirl. Look loverly. Not a patch on a proper wurst in the Fatherland I'm sure, but it'll be a nice reminder and a change.
Great vid Mr BFG, thanks. 🙂
Hi Gaz. Low vitamin B12 or Zinc can cause food to taste unusually salty. Maybe it's worth a check? X
A pilsner in a litre glass would be great with those dishes
Oh yes indeed cheers 🍻
Aldi used to do the bratwurst on the deli counter but somehow stopped i might try some of these
Tried the bratwurst kit, tasted nice. Price was OK, Will try the curry wurst next week.
