I find it very sad that you have to apologise or explain the way you do things, it's your way and people should let you get on with it, live and left live. 💜
The ultimate Meat and Potato pie is made by Wright's of Stoke on Trent ( the factory is actually now moved to Crewe ). They are so good, the soldiers in Iraq demanded crate loads were sent out to them, nuff said !!
Forks, when first used only had two prongs and many things couldn't be eaten from them, such as Peas. We ate things from our knives for a couple of centuries until the three prongs appeared or we used our fingers.
I used to occasionally pop into a bakery shop near to my nearest LIDL and I was assured of lovely meat & potato pie. I've also had the Morrisons' ones since I was doing my big grocery shop. When available they were a decent alternative. Then Covid stopped my visiting. A bit further afield from me, there is the prize-winning "The Pork Shop" in Poulton. I periodically made the journey to bulk buy their amazing pork pies. That also stopped with Covid. When I discovered that they had started doing deliveries, I tried their frozen "porkie pack" - four cheese & onion pies, four steak & onion pies, four long sausage rolls, and four meat & potato pies. These were superb, and will be my first stop from now on. The shop has expanded in the last few years, opening other branches, still winning prizes for their products. As they increase their coverage of the north west, maybe they'll be an option for you one of these days. Oh, and by the way, the frozen porkie pack item that surprised me the most (as it wasn't the reason I made the purchase) was the sausage roll. I've never been a great fan of these (thinking of them more as a buffet also-ran) but... wow. Good video.
When I was a little lad just after the war we lived in Lancashire. Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan. There was a small bakery family bakery called Pillings. Their meat an potato pies at a shilling each were to die for.
Every time I've bought the Morrisons pies the pastry has been awful. So dry and more often than not the pie just breaks up. I buy Holland's pies but not at full price. Usually I buy a pack of four for about £2. For £1.10 no way though lol.
@@BaldFoodieGuy nah people enjoy em and the best thing is your rating food that people can go get if its gets a good review,i went to aldi yesterday and got one of those deep pan pepperoni pizzas, well nice for the price
Hi Gareth , I live in St Helens and we have a few pie makers here. Pimbletts do a meat and potato pie, another is a company called Blackburns which are really nice. We have tried all the makes over time BUT one of the best IMHO is a NAFFI steak and Kidney pie. Keep the videos coming and stay safe.
I’m old enough to remember when they were sold as meat and potato pie I’m from the northwest , so I like my pies, fond memories of Cheshire pork pies 😋
Went to Morrisons this afternoon about 4 to get some veg and spotted one of these pies still on display - the assistant said I was lucky since they go so fast. Offer was two pies for £1 each, and she suggested I take some other pie as well. I took the 'Hot Pot'. Anyway I had the Meat and potato for tea tonight with some veg. Still the best Meat and Potato from any supermarket. The only non-supermarket one that was superior to this was one I got from Solway Bakery some years ago, and i used to get 4 a week - but they were rather salty andthe last one I bought was so salty that it was inedible. In addition to the Morrisons M&P pie there are Steak etc. Maybe you'd like to test the 'Hot Pot', which I'll probably have for tea tomorrow? I really enjoy all of your reviews!
if u seen how oven baked goods are delivered to the morrsons stores ud nver buy them again, comes in dirty green trays uncovered ,often fallen on the floor and picked up
"I've been shopping..." You seem to make an awful lot of shopping trips! You're knocking these videos out faster than I can comment. Not sure that was a fair contest though - one was shortcrust pastry, the other was puff pastry no?
Hi , great video . Holland’s pies and Richmond sausages are one of the things me and my wife disagree on . Maybe years ago before much competition these products were acceptable but they have stood still and have been well and truly overtaken by superior products. A bit like Man Utd 😂
I bought four frozen Holland's potato and meat pies for the first time and baked one yesterday. It was delicious, better than I had expected. But when I went back to your review a year ago, I had forgotten that the other potato and meat pie was from Morrisons. So tomorrow I'm going to Morrisons anyway and will hope that the in store hot food counter has them. My concern is that I shop early and the in store pies might not be ready yet. But the Holland's pie was jolly nice anyway.
Gaz, would you kindly do a review on the liddell chefs select beef and vegetable pasties you get 3 for 1,79 I think this is great value for money.. they are filled to the top and are better personally I think than
Hollands pies aren't like they used to be. I do prefer Pukka pies for the flavour. But they are more expensive. There is nothing wrong with the supermarket own brand of pies like you have shown. Keep up the great work mate. Very enjoyable to watch and well done on the foodies loving your channel.
@@ascelot £1.10 each is expensive for Holland's pies. They always seem to be on offer. I usually pay £2 for a pack of four frozen. Not a fan of the Morrisons ones I don't know if it's the store I've bought them from but the pastry is always really dry.
Holland's pies are made to a cost because they always seem to be on offer. I live near to the factory. £1.10 is top whack really. Holland's pies not being as good as they used to be is the result of the company being owned by the 2 sisters food company. But at the right price theyre decent.
My local Morrisons stopped stocking the Potato and Meat pie in their Bakery section,, seems they pick and choose what they sell in store . I loved them . Maybe not as popular in Scotland ? The Hollands looks like a chip shop pie from the 70's !
Another quality video Gaz. I've never tried any Holland's pies, I don't think I've even seen them the shops up here either. I have had Morrison's Steak and Ale pie and as Dan James said they are great! No brainer indeed, well done pal.
Hi Gareth, nice review and I must agree that the producers of all of the pies really need to look at their recipes and increase the proportion of meat that they are including, preferably pieces of meat instead of mince. As the year progresses other pies come to market, such as a Turkey dinner in a pastie or breakfast pasties and don’t forget the fruit pies, although personally I’m not a fan of fruit pies but some people love them. Another thing to consider is how much weight is lost in the oven I would like to see the results of a before and after weigh-in.
I love Morrisons freshly made pies and pasties... I used to shop there every week, and it was always my first stop as i walked through the doors... I love their cooked chicken thighs, and their extra tasty whole roast chickens too... I knew as soon as i saw the thumbnail for the video, who'd won this pie-off... I also saw on another food review channel today, that Greggs have a new twin pack of steak pies, that are being sold at Iceland Gareth... They might be worth you taking a look, at sometime in the near future my friend... I also think another reason for pies flying of the shelves... it's probably due to the weather getting colder... we all need some comforting winter warming foods, when the weather starts to turn much cooler... Thanks for the shout out too my friend, all the best. Cheers Gareth. 🍺
Cheers Rick, yes I was in Iceland this morning looking for the steak pies but they didn't have them in. Will look again tomorrow and review them ASAP. No worries, cheers 👍👍
Hiya Gareth! You need to try Morrisons either steak or mince beef pie with a dumpling top. Not shortcrust or puff pastry which is a welcome change. Both steak and mince Beef are bloody gorgeous. They are for two to eat so it’s pretty big. Can recommend them with some mash spuds. If you can find them give em a go 😋😋😋

Morrisons the clear winner there and only 2 quid for 2 ! Hopefully we will see some beer reviews from you soon as you can't beat a good pie and a pint 👍
Have been enjoying Morrisons pies for years, their fruit pies as well as their savoury pies and sausage rolls, they take a lot of beating on price and quality
There's just one thing, if you buy the ones for about a quid they are gorgeous, if you buy them in the brown bags the pastry tastes like savoury. Like sitting next to the meat pies has flavoured them.
Have a guess , they used to be meat and potato , and were exactly as described but now they have to specify the most content first . In many foods the top listed content is water these days . This is almost entirely due to imported food regulations and the UK just complied with the minimum , cheaper and more profitable . Meh ...

Hi BFG: I was pleased you found the Morrisons better - the Hollands (I have never heard of them - they must be more exclusive to up north) looked a bit insipid and not very well filled. I used to go to Morrisons a lot and always found their pre-cooked food very good. Unfortunately, due to a spinal condition I find it difficult to get there now. Glad you enjoyed it!!! The pie looked great and made me feel hungry!!!
You can't beat a good pie, smothered in thick gravy.........and some chips, a spot on meal. I think the pies are getting smaller! Morrisons by a mile, better filling and crust colour, and the gravy looked better
I am agreeing with you on this I love morrisons pie's. The hot pot , steak or meat and potato all very tasty. Thanks for all your hard work love watching your reviews. Keep on giving us a great channel to help us make more informed choices on the food tastes and value for money . Thanks mate.
Hi mate great video as usual Another. Test comparison you could as well is the hot meat counters For eg chicken or hot sausages ribs If you want to eat your food of a knife you do it Take care fella
I love a meat pie so thanks for the Review. Meat/potato Pie are not very common, they are hard to find. Morrison and Iceland do them but you have to look hard for it. .
Gareth those Holland pies look a bit pale but a simple wash with simply milk would make them more appealing, or better still brushing with a little butter as the flavour is there ! Morrison has been bought out by a American investment company now. Wonder if they will keep the name and the staff and the quality of there products? 😯😯😮

Hello Gareth, As a very old Scottish lady I would like to point out a couple of things. The meat in a real Scotch pie is mutton and the pastry is neither shortcrust nor puff pastry. It should be water pastry. I think you need to go to Scotland and find an independent Butcher/Baker to find a real Scotch pie. I do so enjoy your no airs and graces videos. It seems I have been eating the best fish and chips for years, thank you.
Hollands products are living on past glory from the days when they sold them in chip shops. As this video shows there are better and cheaper procucts for sale these days. I think even football grounds are seeing the light these days with Hollands products, although how they sell them for over £2.50 each I can't really grasp. Captive audience I guess.
Hello gareth have just bought some hollands steak and kidney puddings ..thought I'd have one tomorrow...but I've been thinking about them all night..just put one on to steam. Great video.
theres a great pie shop in aberfoyle so when i told the girl in the shop that i and my mate have travelled a 90 mile round trip just to taste hers WELL......that caused a bit of a kafuffle but the other customers agreed

Great review as always,so so I went shopping.went to Morrison’s.got the steak 🥩 and kidney pies( no meat and potatoe) and as a wise man once said, they are SPOT ON!!!! Amazing pasty.your review worked on me,cheers again fella!!!!
I got put off of Morrisons, I get my shopping delivered because of my bad knee and I live in the South East, the shop used to deliver, I have three Morrisons near me not more than 2 miles away, all of a sudden I couldn't get bakery stuff from then, it kept coming up not in your postcode, I always used to get bakery food from them, when the driver delivered what I could have, he said its from a depot, I'm only 2 miles from 3 Morrisons shops, no bakery in the depot he said, then I found the dates on the items were out of date, so they weren't even checking the dates in the depot, but I have Iceland, tescos, tescos whoosh, Asda, Co op, that deliver from shops not a horrible depot
Do we remember when Potato & Meat pies used to be Meat & Potato pies. Morrison's had the best visual appeal although I do scoff Hollands as a snack when out & about.
Great review as always..Definitely going to try a morrisons one..Not a big pastry fan but love pukka pies..All the hollands pies pastry look anaemic and not very appealing imo..You should try the fray bentos steak and kidney pudding..They are really good!👍
Great video again. If the worst thing you do is eat off your knife you have nothing to worry about. At least we have never seen you with your elbows on the table!! have you ever done a comparison of Cheese & Onion pies? I like those.
Worst one I ever had was a Hollands at an away game at Burnley FC. Inside was just gravy and it had been cooked for about 3 days 🤣 Plus, being a football ground, it was about £3!

Excellent review, very partial to Morrisons Steak and Kidney but hard to always find. Marks and Spencer do a decent one too but double the price so Morrisons wins for me.
General comment..... 1. What is your name?....2. Personally, I would like you to say if you would buy the product again...3. Would like a score out of ten and refer back to similar items (pizza, pies) that you have already tested....4. Just do it your way mate, that’s what people are buying into and that’s why people are watching your videos to see the real you and not some ponce wiping his knife after every cut lol. By the way you could tell from the beginning the Morrisons Pie was the winner, Over 100g more for 10p less. No brainer!
Yes your right Dean, will do it my way in future, great advice. Cheers mate 👍👍
Love a good Pie Battle, I wonder if any of the lower priced supermarkets can beat a Dicksons mince pie?
Oh god I miss my mums homemade meat and potato pie.
She used stewing steak in rich thick gravy.
I'll have to see if I can buy the Morrisons meat pies online.
Yummy pal
@@BaldFoodieGuy A time when mum's baked for the whole family.
Greetings from Harworth, near Doncaster, S. Yorkshire. Yes it's a dump now, but used to be great!
Fab video, really like the comparison video's. Got to love Morrisons pies just gutted not one near us. Keep up the great video's.
Alright Gaz it's me again, not sure how far you are from Bolton but an old work colleague kept going on about Carr's pasties. Do a review please, be also good to see you outdoors as well as on your kitchen just to mix it up abit
Hey man, John U.S.A still watching you
my man told my mam grew up on walney island and dad in ulverston . Got to see a steak and kindney pie review.
Ordered a couple of Frey Bentos they were not what they used to be. Do it for me man.
Still watching John. U.S.A.
cheers John have I not done one. Will look 8n my playlist if not will get onto it. I remember you pal. thanks 😊
Cheers David
You can't beat a good pie, smothered in thick gravy.........and some chips, a spot on meal. I think the pies are getting smaller! Morrisons by a mile, better filling and crust colour, and the gravy looked better
2 quid for two pies!! I’m on my way!! Spot on again mate. Keep em coming. 👍
Cheers Justin
I am agreeing with you on this I love morrisons pie's. The hot pot , steak or meat and potato all very tasty. Thanks for all your hard work love watching your reviews. Keep on giving us a great channel to help us make more informed choices on the food tastes and value for money . Thanks mate.
Thank you 🎅😋👍👍
That’s a Defo Roll back your eyes job Gary for sure but it’s your SOH that makes all of your vlogs so catchy and hilarious 😆 mate Xx
cheers Susie glad you like it x
Hi mate great video as usual
Another. Test comparison you could as well is the hot meat counters
For eg chicken or hot sausages ribs
If you want to eat your food of a knife you do it
Take care fella
Cheers Dave good idea. Yes I will mate, I will 👍👍
I'm newbie!! Pls do a vegi pie 🥧 not meat free soya based just veg, in time for Xmas. I can never fine a good one and end up with cheese onion slice.
Hi Jai welcome to the channel and enjoy the videos. All do, all the best, Gareth 👍👍
Funny this! Proper regiment coming out here!
I love a meat pie so thanks for the Review. Meat/potato Pie are not very common, they are hard to find. Morrison and Iceland do them but you have to look hard for it. .
Thanks for watching!
Gareth those Holland pies look a bit pale but a simple wash with simply milk would make them more appealing, or better still brushing with a little butter as the flavour is there !
Morrison has been bought out by a American investment company now. Wonder if they will keep the name and the staff and the quality of there products? 😯😯😮
Have they now, well we will see. Cheers for the info 👍👍
Oh yes Gareth your right my son works at a freezer plant and the HGV drivers aren't picking up all the frozen turkeys for Christmas... shortage of frozen food in Tesco Gareth just so you know... but loved the review as always... spot on keep them coming Gareth....
Thank you for the info, all the best
@@BaldFoodieGuy my pleasure Gareth... oh nearly forgot you taught my son how to fry a steak he watch you... because he was terrible and now it's spot on... so thank you again... see it's not only reviews your showing how to cook things your way and I dare say my son won't be the first to follow your cooking 🥩🍘🍳🥓🍔
Beautiful comment Georgina tell him spot on and thank you. Glad I can help in any way. All the best, Gareth 😘👍👍
I must've had a bad batch of Morrisons potato and meat pies, the one I had was awful. Their beef and onion pasties are lovely, though.
sorry to hear that
Can you do a supermarket own brand pork pie challenge? I swear the morrisons one will win hands down.....its spot on and gorgeous....loving the channel
Cheers Ian I can't spoil things but standby👍👍
Potato and meat.!!
The Hollands pie looks a bit sad, but just the right size for putting on a floury barm, with a dash of HP brown sauce.
Good shout
My staple lunchtime treat years ago whilst at college - the Wigan Kebab! Lovely! Also another great video, cheers! (Off to Morrisons tomorrow I think!)
Ide have them with a dash of salt and pepper and squirt of lea and perrins and a blob of tomato sauce ! Yum yum, another enjoyable blog .full marks .
Yummy 😋😋👍
My daughter won't eat anything after the best before date, she gives me loads of stuff as she knows I'll eat owt.
i once worked with a farmer who would cut the cods out of ram sheep , unblock things with his pocket knife , then wipe it on his trousers and later use it to peel his apple at lunchtime .
Brilliant 🤣🤣👍

Pound bakery wins any pie off in my opinion, 2 for 1 on everything and all taste fantastic........us northerners know the score! 😁👍
Every time I go in Morisons the bakery draws you to it like a magnet... Pie and mushy peas half time at the match. lovley... 😜😜😜 great vlog 👍
So good
Nice review
Am enjoying these taste
Testing reviews
Best wishes 🤩
Cheers Kizzy 😋😋👍
Gareth just be yourself on these vids , your doing a great job lad and ignore any negative shite , genuine foodies know your a good un .And don't even mention it in future vids .
Cheers, will do in future, all the best Niall 👍👍
Hello Gareth,
As a very old Scottish lady I would like to point out a couple of things.
Thank you Matilda, lovely comment. Yes I need to do the pie justice 😋😋👍👍👍
Could you do some cheese and onion pies please
Will do 👌👌
Hollands products are living on past glory from the days when they sold them in chip shops. As this video shows there are better and cheaper procucts for sale these days. I think even football grounds are seeing the light these days with Hollands products, although how they sell them for over £2.50 each I can't really grasp. Captive audience I guess.
Hi! Hope you enjoy the pies!
love pies
Hello gareth have just bought some hollands steak and kidney puddings ..thought I'd have one tomorrow...but I've been thinking about them all night..just put one on to steam. Great video.
Cheers John enjoy. All the best, Gareth 👍👍
theres a great pie shop in aberfoyle so when i told the girl in the shop that i and my mate have travelled a 90 mile round trip just to taste hers WELL......that caused a bit of a kafuffle but the other customers agreed
🤣🤣
I'm living in Holland (the country not the pies) at the moment m8 and your videos make me homesick as hell I'd mud wrestle a rhino for just one bite of either of those beauties. Keep up the good work m8.
Sorry pal, got more to come like these, glad you like them 👍👍
Hey Garth pies looked delicious .... Don't forget what I said too u about pies at tescos and Iceland steak and meat potato pies ....try them cu on next one 💯💯😊
@Bald Foodie Guy I'm swinging into Morrisons Bideford tommorow for a meat and potato pie! ✌
Oh I stopped at Westward ho caravan site when I was working in the shipyard at Bideford 20 years ago. Good night out in Bideford 👍👍
Hi mate loving these pie offs morrisons looked clear winner . Love a good pie will have to try one of those . Doing a great job mate racing to 10k foodies love it well done
Cheers Shane, yes I got a few more pie offs coming 👍👍
Great review as always,so so I went shopping.went to Morrison’s.got the steak 🥩 and kidney pies( no meat and potatoe) and as a wise man once said, they are SPOT ON!!!! Amazing pasty.your review worked on me,cheers again fella!!!!
Cheers Alex👍👍
Running to Morrisons now cos I just fancy a potato pie, thanks for sharing, x
Sorry to hear that. Have a good Sunday 👍
Do we remember when Potato & Meat pies used to be Meat & Potato pies. Morrison's had the best visual appeal although I do scoff Hollands as a snack when out & about.
Yes spot on Trevor, hollands are good and convenient 👍👍
Great review as always..Definitely going to try a morrisons one..Not a big pastry fan but love pukka pies..All the hollands pies pastry look anaemic and not very appealing imo..You should try the fray bentos steak and kidney pudding..They are really good!👍
Yes that's one I need to try, will get to it Darren
Great review again Gareth, looking like there's going to be a food shortage according to reports.👍
Yes I know, not good
Great video again. If the worst thing you do is eat off your knife you have nothing to worry about. At least we have never seen you with your elbows on the table!!
have you ever done a comparison of Cheese & Onion pies? I like those.
Yes cheese and onion one are coming, cheers
The Morrison pie had a smiley face 😁 😁
Ha ha it was happy I chose it 🤣👍👍
Allreat fella, I'm off to morrisons in 10 minutes i just hope they have some pies left i forgot how good they are.
Good luck Eddie
@@davidsworld5837 Very happy to report, successful trip got a potato and meat and a steak, had them with mash, marrowfat peas and gravy.
@@davidsworld5837 Very happy with them, so much better than pukka imo
Worst one I ever had was a Hollands at an away game at Burnley FC. Inside was just gravy and it had been cooked for about 3 days 🤣 Plus, being a football ground, it was about £3!
Oh noooooooo
Hi my friend please do not take notice of the rude pigs I've been catering all my life now doing pies tried the sausage rolls from Aldi today bang on which I wouldn't have tried if it wasn't for you great work "the pies the limit" 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Chris they are spot on arnt they, cheers Chris, all the best, Gareth 👍👍
Went looking for the Pukka pie in booths didn't have any in stock 😵
Oh noooooooo
Excellent,as usual.Superb natural presenting style. When I was growing up in Eccles Lancashire they were always known as meat and potato pies,as you kept calling them, then the EU stepped in! Please keep the vids coming and don't be bothered about eating off your knife I've been bollocked for that too.
Haha cheers Chris, yes they were always meat and potato, what's going on in the world 🌍, all the best, Gareth 😋😋😋
@@BaldFoodieGuy Cheers mate.A good pie and a pint of bitter(please no lager unless your having an curry!)Absolute bliss.
Excellent review, very partial to Morrisons Steak and Kidney but hard to always find. Marks and Spencer do a decent one too but double the price so Morrisons wins for me.
Brilliant video keep up the good work! Have a spot on Tuesday 😊👍
Cheers Chloe, Thanks, you too 😘👍
General comment..... 1. What is your name?....2. Personally, I would like you to say if you would buy the product again...3. Would like a score out of ten and refer back to similar items (pizza, pies) that you have already tested....4. Use a blackboard - out of shot - to remind you to cover every aspect of your review....5. WELL DONE a really nice, honest site and a very nice person too :-)
Thank you 👌
Another excellent stream Gareth
I know what I am going to buy tomorrow
Some Meat and Potato pies.
Yummy Tummy
👍🏻😁
Cheers Lee 👍👍
Morrisons pastry is lovely
That Morrisons looked so good. I like Hollands but the other one....WOW. - Great vid
