    Amusing seeing BZ call others 'normies', the irony being people who do actual work with fleets of servers look at the hobby as a 'normie' thing. Every 'normie' is someone's Alpha.

    Everyone's asking about the Tomahawk coz it was the most popular board in the B450 series. Arguably the most selling board of that gen too. So people are basically expecting the new generation boards to follow suit. But the problem is that board sold for $110 and it performed pretty well for its price, while the b550/x570 tomahawks sell for close to $180/$220 and there are better boards at these price points even for Normies!...Get over tomahawk ffs!

    • @mapesdhs597
      @mapesdhs597 3 года назад +2

      I'll freely admit, the B450 Tomahawk (Max) was the first MSI board I ever bought partly because it was receiving such positive assessment. Until then I'd mostly used ASUS and Asrock, with a dribble of Gigabyte. I'd say MSI's B450 rep is well deserved, I was impressed. This doubtless leads to better consideration for that brand in the future, eg. I bought an MSI B450M Mortar Max for an HTPC build, but I doubt I would have done that if I'd never bought the B450 Tomahawk Max. I couldn't find an MSI board that matched my needs for a daily system though, opted for an Asrock X470 Taichi which I'd used before, while for a pro user friend I opted for an Asrock X570 Pro4.
      Thus, rep can certainly make a difference, but often it's not the dominating factor for a final decision. Having said that, there are certainly those who stick to a brand and that's it. I can understand that, for a long time I used ASUS and Asrock boards, but in recent years I became less and less enamoured of ASUS, seemed like they were moving away from what once made their original Maximus Extreme series so good (such as the M4E). Asrock isn't immune to dumbassery though, such as the Taichi & Ultimate both having POST debug LED, but only the Ultimate has power/reset buttons even though both boards have the relevant contacts.

    I can explain the Tomahawk need: We are sold on the marketing. I wanted a b450+3000 series combo in mATX.. I found out with extensive finding the Mortar max is my best bet (Even considered what i loose if i fill the Sata/m2/PCIe combos on several boards etc...), yet i managet to not get it. All the avaible b450 x470 era videos were about, "you not really need x470, b450 is enough", then we got the x570 MBs: "if you do not need PCIe 4.0, b450 is good enough... What is the best b450 allrounder on low enoug price, the Tomahawk, tomahawk, tomahawk, we heard it everywhere...
    Now as the new stuff dropped, in bigger numbers, we expect, to have the old goodie, be still be the best goodie... and we remember names, not reasoning.
    I watched all 3 videos from you now, but still the first thing what i would say for my needs "is a mortar", because i wanted a mortar, i wanted it for more than a year, but i heard it might not be the best for me in the actual minute only for 3-4 hours...
    Normies and normie+-es are just work like this :)

    People looking for good motherboards are still finding that coverage today.
    Heck, I was considering it for a while!
    But now you can barely find the damn things, and since the Aorus has more USB (by, like, a metric buckton), and is also available in WiFi (somewhat important to me), as well as trading blows with all the "normie" features, you successfully changed my mind, saved me a few bucks, and pointed me to an MB that's actually available! Just you carry on, new boards come out and having looked at your recommendations its brought to light that the Aorus pro v2 will do what most punters need at a reasonable cost. Hardware Unboxed also found the Aorus pro to run its VRM cool when driven hard so I will assume the V2 version will. What more could you want, max out a 3950x and 5000 + memory clock with an M.2 PCIe 4 pushing reads of up to 7000 and writes up to 5300 it just leaves you to chuck a RX 6800 in for some 4k gaming. As for Ray tracing WTF its got some way to go yet.

    Hey BZ , I really learn alot from you and your videos. I am like so many other people.
    I don't have enough technical education to know just by looking at a motherboard as to what quality parts to look for . Or the layout of the sector of the board .I know the basics but YOU have a more detailed understanding.
    So why don't you make a list of features which include newer advancements and design specifications?
    Things like power phases, RAM layout ,pcb layers ,sata ports ,Type 'C',thunderbolt, M.2 bios button, post indicator, and any other highly beneficial design features that you would ask a board manufacturer to build? This reminds me of the 1960's~70's.
    You could go into any car dealership and sit down with a salesman and go through the options list and pick what ever you wanted.
    Now today you can't even order a 5~6 speed manual Transmission .
    So we are forced to buy some car that has a great motor, but a weak transmission. Or a crappy engine but a good transmission. And you have no other choices.
    So now we are yet again stuck in the stupid zone .
    So please BZ ,sit down and with your vast knowledge base ,write your design specifications down .
    Corporations don't like to be forced into doing anything that cost them money unless they have overwhelming competition from someone who builds a better mousetrap for less money.
    It's people like you who are more knowledgeable and thus more credible to be a voice of change .
    Can you imagine if your design concepts were warmly received by a small third party manufacturer who was able to bring to market within 2 years and for a 2 tier pricing of $225.00. For a feature packed entry level mobo, and a $500.00 mobo that has more capabilities geared for extreme enthusiasts.

    hey man. got a question for the memory king. i had an x570 gaming plus, then switched for a gaming edge wifi(before i seen the reviews but so far vrm thermals are good). but through both boards and 2 sets of memory, i have a persisting issue. the memory is 3200 mhz trident z white . i think cl16 . but if i try and enable xmp i lose display, and then i have to clear cmos to get it back. i also tried 3000mhz and locked the voltage to 1.4 . and then it works , but i will lose the display again randomly and have to restart it. im running a 5800x and a 3080 ventus. i swapped everything except power supply which is a 750 focus gold seasonic. and i have another replacement on the way just in case. my question is, is the intel certified trident z just horrible with my choice of boards and cpu. or would it be something else causing this issue?. i really dont want to run 2166 mhz on a 5800x. am i going to have to switch memory to amd certified?. i have asked numerous people and tried everything else i could think off. i really hope it isnt the gpu for obvious reasons. but xmp effecting a gpu seems like a far fetch

      As it turned out I broke my display port cable from putting to much strain on it when I was clearing the cmos. So go and check your cable!

      European countries like Spain, France and Italy have Euro (€) as their currency. While others like Norway, Sweden, Poland, Switzerland and UK don't. Neither of those groups have unified VAT, but country-specific. Also, as countries and economies, all of those countries mentioned are are very, very different from Albania.
      For example, MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI seems to be ~220...230 € here in Finland (24% VAT included). You can get Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS for ~170 €, although normally it hovers around the same price. X570-PLUS (Wi-Fi) is ~30 € extra. Hi buildzoid, thanks for the video. Regarding people's fixation on the X570 Tomahawk, you should consider some things to better understand it: first of all, you praised it in your preview/PCB breakdown video of it and commented at the end that it could become your go-to board for overclocking or something to that effect. Secondly, many enthusiasts might be attracted to the smart power stages configuration compared to the similarly priced competitor boards because they like the assurance of having the most accurate VRM readings possible in HWiNFO64 when tuning their systems, be it all-core OC or PBO optimization. Thirdly, and you have touched on it a couple of times, it makes more sense for your EU-based viewers based on the price difference here.

      @ I'm not sure if this is what Jon meant, but more importantly the price *ordering* of mbds can be different in other countries, eg. in BZ's Newegg list he shows the Asrock X570 Pro4 as being more expensive than the Steel Legend, but in the UK the Pro4 is typically 25 UKP cheaper (I know because I bought a Pro4). This means some of BZ's conclusions that are largely based on price differences are simply not valid in many other places.
      Quite why the ordering of SKUs should vary in this way, who knows.

    Can you explain why 4 sticks of RAM are hard to OC in some Motherboards? As far as i know is all about signal quality, can we improve that in another one? Like EMI shielding, i´m not going to mu-metal and kapton tape, but i wonder if kapton tape all around cpu and ram (botton of the MB) + copper tape and a little one in the top between RAM sticks and CPU will help, i have b-die ram (tridentz 3600cl16) and i can go 3733cl16, but with 4 sticks i have a lot of problems even at 3600 (b350 tomahawk), it´s a weird situation because now i have fclk@1867 and RAM@3533cl14, still a beta bios and i have a 3900xt, I don´t want to change the motherboard but now i´m thinking about the b550 Aourus pro v2 if i can go very high with the 4 sticks.

  • @matasa7463
    @matasa7463 3 года назад +8

    I think what people need to remember is that first, Buildzoid looks at several points, and don’t look at other points.
    For example, he ranks the boards based on feature sets that he is knowledgable about and cares about, such as the SATA ports, memory, VRM, connectivity, etc., and compares the boards in relations to the price point. He doesn’t really focus too much at things like audio, PCI-e lanes, M.2 slots, looks, fan and ARGB headers, for example.
    So you have to understand what exactly he is recommending and what else you have to research on your own.
    For example, if a certain boards go on sale and drops the price well below MRSP, then the ratings will change accordingly. Also, he wouldn’t care about the looks of the board, how many fan headers or ARGB headers the board has, where the headers are located for wire management, integrated I/O shield, structural reinforcements, etc.. Like he said, he doesn’t use a case, but a test bench, so his user experience is fundamentally different from the normie users.
    So ask the right questions and don’t waste his time. I bought the X570 Tomahawk because it was on sale, and it was available, the Bios is nice, the looks is nice, and it fits my build. That’s all there is. If it didn’t go on sale, I’d buy the X570 TUF Pro or B550 Aorus Pro v2.

      This^. X570 Tomahawk is cheaper than Asus TUF Pro which BZ compared it to in the original video, in Europe. The 2 extra SATA ports and the fact that, IN THE US, the Tuf Pro was/is cheaper, was the reason he recomended it over the Tomahawk, he literally said that. If you don't care about the extra SATA ports, and you can find the Tomahawk for cheaper, it's obviously equally good. I think most folks stick to those guides a bit too much and cannot comprehend the fact that prices differ drastically sometimes in the US vs the EU.
