ASRock X570 Taichi - 3rd M.2 slot is actually tied with the bottom PCIe x16 slot. So you can always have 8 SATA drives connected, but either the 3rd M.2 or the 3rd PCIe x16. They also have a Thunderbolt AIC that has to go into the bottom slot, so if you use that card, you can't use the 3rd M.2.

Just bought a x570-A Pro. Wasn't much options in my price range on Newegg the other morning when I bought. Bought along with a 3600, 512gb Team Group(will be replacing with a better drive in the coming months, this will end up in my guest pc I'll be building next month) NVME drive, 16gb 3600mhz CL16(wanted to go for 32gb with two sticks, but just gonna settle with getting another pair of 8's in a couple weeks. Mainly blame this on stock and prices at time I purchased)
Gonna be pairing with the poor man's Aresgame AGV500(500w 80+ Bronze) for a short while until I get a much better psu. Gonna case it all in a Musetex Mesh.
Picked up a used Sapphire Nitro RX 480 8GB for $100.
My Rosewill Lightning 1300w psu finally took my old system with it, so had to basically build a new machine. Was running the good ol' i7-3930k @ 4.6Ghz paired with a Red Devil RX 480 8GB.

I chose the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro WiFi MB because of the aesthetics, the rear I/O, the minimum RGB, the VRM cooling, the location of the 1st M.2 slot above the top PCI-E slot, multiple fan headers and of course WiFi. The only con is the chipset cooling fan and it's location. With my 2.5 slot 2070 Super Gaming OC video card installed 2/3rds of the chipset fan and half of the 2nd M.2 slot is covered up. Right now my chipset temp is 60.5 C. I haven't had any problems with this MB even updating the BIOS(s) is easy.

    hi buildzoid
    for the x570 dark hero.
the singlecore/multicore overclocking on the fly is pretty much usefull for like blender etc.
the ingest of data, before the render itself, is basically singlecore. so the 5 ghz on a 5950 x on ingest and then all core 4,7 or higher on the render itself, will help a little with time.
that translates with all programs which use a single core to load respurces and multicore for the actual workload.
500€ in austria, we have way higher taxes than elsewhere :-/

If you use standby the Bluetooth doesnt wake up and you'll need to power down completely (no power to board). This is actually a known issue with the Intel chipset where it doesnt sleep well.

Keep in mind that many of the boards with 3 m.2 slots, tend to have many compromises, for example, some will have undesirable behavior, such as one of the m.2 slots sharing bandwidth with the PCIe X4 slot as well as 2 of the SATA ports depending on which type of m.2 drive is installed.

I plan to use my PC as a high end workstation. No video editing, but will be running lots of VM's and hence looking at fast nvmes. The vision D is one of the best mobos. The ASUS (including Dark Hero) do not have a rich list of QVL for 4x 16 GB ram and seems to restrict most 16 GB or higher RAM sticks to 2 DIMM slots. E.G the Dark Hero does not support BL2K16G36C16U4RL Crucial which almost every other manufacturer supports. So yes, ASUS still has to ramp up their memory support (support just 1 vendor with 1x4GB for 5100 doesn't really count!)

You're right about the Gigabyte bios having a lot of issues. I have an X570 Master and I loved it with the 3900XT on the 2X bios. But with my new 5950X on the 3X bios, it suffers from multiple issues. The most bizarre one I'm running into is the per CCX overclock only affecting half the cores. Half boost to what I set the OC to and half stay at base clock.

As someone who has built thousands of systems working for a system integrator, software needs to be part of this discussion. I'd spend more on an ROG board, specifically for the software, even if it meant -1 m.2. Especially considering a good 95% of people who will never use this hardware to it's full potential, it's best for people to just purchase a solid reliable board, rather than actually worrying about topologies, or achieving 4000+ Mhz ram...
What you mentioned about the master being your favorite 'price isn't a concern' option, and then saying that sometimes it randomly stops working for 10mins at a time and needs to be reset... That shit is nightmare fuel to anyone in the SI community. Companies will stop carrying certain boards because of issues like this. From my 9 years of building ~2700 - 3000 gaming systems and workstations - I would never in my life recommend Gigabyte, or Asrock as a viable option, especially for anyone who's machine is critical for work. Also Asrock bios looks like someone's kid designed it in MS paint.
It's great to a perspective from a motherboard reviewer who get's 1 unit of a board and gives their opinion, and there are also lots of other different things to consider when thinking about why certain boards have certain features. Fabbing a board design is not by any means cheap, so I think it would be really great for your viewer base to be able to watch you interview some people who actually design these products. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of them (mostly from ASUS/MSI) and they aren't stupid people! Very interesting to hear their perspective as well!
    Great video

X570Xtreme rev1.0 in 4x8GB configuration maximizes around 4200Mts, tested both on 3800x & 4650G Pro, 2x8GB it does 4800Mts+ with the right kits of memory.
FCLK will depend on CPU but the board gives trouble with 4xdimms regardless of CPU used for frequency around 4200Mts.
Renoir can do it 1:1 4200/2100 which is nice.

I'm with you BZ about USB and SATA ports, it bloody awful how many mid/high end boards have awful backpanels with as few as 4 USB ports(1 for keyboard, 1 for mouse, 1 for external drive, leaving 1 free for maybe a webcam, wow great) and only 4 SATA ports (personally I need 7 atleast).
Choosing a board for my 1st AM4 system was a damn nightmare too, I finally settled on a crosshair 8 hero because I found a good deal, it has plenty of usb and sata and hopefully get a £55 rebate when ASUS finally coughs up (I know they do honour rebates, but are very slow to do so, typically 4+ months).

You have no idea the smile on my face when you said the X570 Tomahawk was dethroned by the TUF Gaming Pro. I banked on the TUF Pro when I saw it launched mainly because of the Intel 2.5G LAN (Rev. 3 so no issues that Rev 1+2 had) and because it was actually in stock unlike the MSI. I also prefer Asus bios over MSI. I really wish you could get some photos of the VRM and go in-depth on it to see how it stacks up on that front.

    I got the MSI Creation Board paired w/ a 5950X + 128gbs of 3600mhz RAM.
Can confirm how hard this is to overclock. The RAM kit I got is not compatible yet, w/ the 5950X so I keep getting crashes on any auto OC I do, only manual OC works, but I only have time to do that on the RAM, got it up to 3200mhz.
Definitely got this for the i.o. I am using 90% of them to capacity, and the USB Type C is very handy for VR plugging. Don't regret grabbing the board, but likely gonna have to replace my AIO and jump on the custom loop cooling. 5950X runs way too warm.

Think there s a lot of ppl who still have older chips or are looking for any kinda upgrade/ downgrade path that 450s offer. Personally I m far more interested in 450s coz I got two 1st gen chips...and I know others who have as well. Asus claim to have changed the backplate and the Mosfet layout is defo changed (compared it) but I m way to much of a pleb to properly judge that. My googling led me to think that the B450-F Gaming II refresh might actually be just as good as the B450 Carbon Pro Max or even better than the Mortar Max that you praised in another vid.
