I don't know how you're able to tap into EXACTLY what we're all thinking, feeling and itching for LOL. I could have used this video before I went down this rabbit hole. That "I want more!!!!" segment had me on the floor.
So expensive. But what I have learned in my 1 year journey so far is be happy with what you have. You can enjoy what you have while wanting to continue to upgrade.
@@Pk1daTake your time. The joy is in the journey. I finally achieved a 7.1.4 setup and still looking for things to improve or modify. It doesn't end. 🤷♂️😁
I just upgraded to 7.2 and I'm blown away!!! Adding that 2nd subwoofer really made a difference. I don't even hear it, no boom, but the pressure is incredible. But now I'm thinking of going directly to separates. It's all about the detail !!!! Tonewinner looks very tempting.
My personal speaker buying plan when starting my home cinema quest is: Phase One: Small Beginnings - 2.1 Phase Two: The Baseline - 5.1 Phase Three: The Next-Gen - 7.1.2 Phase Four: Atmos Elevated - 9.1.4 Phase Five: Atmos Endgame - 9.2.6 Phase Six: Auro-3D At Last - 9.4.8 I will only start with three channels (and the AV separates and TV too, of course) before building up little by little. Adding three to four channels per phase, and having more media sources (disc players, consoles, computers, etc…)
omg dude you're content is so awesome. better production, editing, and quality than anything else I've seen. the whole ending of this video had me cracking up laughing and its only 630 am
I replaced my 21-year-old Sony STR-DE845 (5.1) receiver last month with a Denon AVR-X4700H and got the credit card bill for it a few days ago. I think my next step will be to replace my front 3 speakers - thinking about Klipsch. My current setup is an RM10 5.1 bookshelf Polk system I bought in 2005. I think running Audyssey helped with room acoustics, but I don't know how to find out. Since I don't own my house I was thinking of up-firing Atmos speakers at least as a starting point since I can't drill holes in my bedroom ceiling even though some videos say it should be considered a last-resort option. My income won't let me even think about separates!
Good stuff from your dedicated room. My room is 12x13 so I decided to run 7.2.2...frankly I was tired of pulling wire through the attic space. Emotiva in ceiling sound pretty good. Emotiva side surrounds and some inexpensive Acoustic Research for rear surrounds. I ended up with a Yamaha 801and will power my 2 front mains with that to see how it sounds.
I come back to this video every time i want to do something more with my system. Way back 2.5 years ago when i 1st went down this rabbit hole 5.1 was enough, ended up with a 9.2.6 😂 now back at 5.1.6
I pulled the trigger on a Denon 3700h, OSD 7channel amp and 6 Klispch in ceiling speakers (2 of them handle rear surrounds). Sounds great so far. Next sound treatment.
For the external amp Emotiva now has a budget friendly BasX series with all flavors/configs from 2 channel all the way to 7 channel so you can mix and match to get the total # of your speakers covered like: mixing a 5 channel and 6 channel = 11 channels, or 3 channel + 4 channel + 4 channel (Fronts, Surrounds, ATMOS Elevation) = 11 channels.
Wow! This video was so dense with info but easy to digest. Well done striking that balance! I think i have new fav channel to add to my favs! Also it doesn't hurt that your voice is like secret cider from the cellar for my ear holes. Bonus part of comment: i found a sony dh 750 used for $10 today! I don’t even know why i bought it since i already have a better receiver but it felt wrong to not get it.
Wow i just started this journey of HT….and now im going crazy and itching for more! Thank you for your guidance vid, learned a lot. More power to you 🙏🏼
Just got my 3700H in the mail today! Amp and LG CX OLED 77” should be arriving tonight 😀 And I was already ahead of you this time. Already got two of those Klipsch ceiling speakers you showed in the video a couple days ago
@@ealanosborne hey, quick question while you’re here. Just upgraded to the Denon 3700H from my Onkyo SR494. Ran the automatic setup and room calibration. It had me turn down both subs down to like 20% to be below the 75 dB threshold. Noticed the subs aren’t really being used when listening to music unless the volume is really high. I typically enjoy more bass so should I just turn the subs up or should I change the crossover frequencies?
@@sebastian7539 Yeah my Onkyo AccuEQ does the same thing with my sub. I literally just ran it again today (funny you bring it up), and noticed it turned my sub down -7dB. WTF? So yeah, just turn your subs back up. I turned mine back to 0 dB in my receiver and it was back where I like it - enough to give me the boom I want, but not obnoxiously overpowering.
Next step for me is the processor. I keep seeing hints at a massive Audyssey upgrade on the horizon. I am going to wait until that release which I presume will be on the next Marantz release replacing the 7706.
Can't do 7.2.4 in my room unless i can pair some Bluetooth side surrounds to setup on occasion. Open space on one side, window on the other... 5.2.4 is the sweet apot for me.😎
I'm somewhere around level 3. My receiver has gotta go, but I've got towers up front (and side surrounds), a large center, and big bookshelves for rear surrounds...all matching klipsch stuff. Not the best but it all matches and I like it. I'm in a weird place where I find myself having a hard time choosing to get an awesome new receiver and an external amp for the extra height channels......or just waiting and saving my pennies to go with a "budget" seperates system. I think I'd be safe with getting the Outlaw 5 or 7000x and a new receiver, but we really do always want MORE. I'm surprised there wasn't a bonus step at the end where you take out all your furniture and replace it with subwoofers. 7.50.4 seems ideal for me LOL
Dude, your videos are the best thing to grace my eyeballs and ear holes since the internet - love it. Keep up the great things and stuff. I especially love the things, but also the stuff.
LOL My main HT is already 9.2.6 and my home office has 7.2.4. Both are heavily treated and I will attest that room treatments are even more important than calibration. You can also re-calibrate as you improve your room itself.
I think we need new definitions such as home theater vs dedicated home theater. Whereas home theater is what 80% of people are running some kind of setup in their living room where space is limited. so for the home theater get a receiver with at least the front 3 channel outputs and take that load off and give that to the amp and let the receive run the rest of the surround. that to me i think would be the pinnacle for home theater best balance between sound and the number of pieces of equipment in the front of your room. As for dedicated home theater then everything in this video applies.
Also i think for home theater your best config is 5.2.2 seeing that most living rooms are open spaces nowadays and having more speakers in the walkways isnt practical. Now with a dedicated home theater, meaning you have a separate space for watching media, then the skies the limit.
I got a marantz av 8805 connected to a 2 marantz mm 8077 power amps with 2 svs pb4000 using only xlr’s on everything even the subs and rti-a polk audio series speakers
thanks Ealan from your past videos about Klipsch Reference theater pack. I already purchased the Receiver you talked about from Sony. I got a good deal on it. Now next is the Theater set and Bookshelves speakers. It may not be as good as the Super Expensive brands, but who cares. We all aren't super rich right?.
Exactly. I know I’m not rich, so I keep trying to find ways to get what I want without having to sell my house...and then not having a home to put a home theater in...😄
I WANT MORE! I know that feeling. It's like a never ending quest for perfection. I think I could be happy with 7.2.4. Though I have seen some setups with 4 subs. I wonder what that would be like. 7.4.4?
Yeah, even in that Youthman video I linked, he talks about how the Marantz AVR has a “pre/pro” setting to mimic a dedicated processor to some degree. But it still wasn’t up to snuff compared to the actual preamp. But yes, it’s a great way to take advantage of a Denon’s preamp capabilities without spending tons of cash on a dedicated preamp. 👍

Great video about the game you need to put under control at one time!😝 If you preamp all your speakers don't you essentially get "separates" only your processor doesn't have balanced outputs?

@@ealanosborne Hey! Bro, I got 9.1.4.. do you recommend 9.4.6? My dealer says, 1 sub is enough and 4 Atmos are enough.. because it's for just 1 person to enjoy.. he says unnecessary investment.. What are your thoughts? Stick with 9.1.4? Or upgrade to 9.4.6?
@@josealfredfernandes Well, yeah, if it’s just 1 or 2 people, maybe a good investment is 2 subwoofers. But 6 height channels and 4 subwoofers is beneficial if you’re dealing with a dedicated home theater with a couple rows of seats, so that you get a great audio experience no matter where you sit. But if you have the money to spend, I’m not stopping anyone from going all out, if they so choose. 😁🤘
Can you explain what happens when you have a 7.2.4 paired with a PS5 capable of 7.1, where the older Onkyo TX-NR1030 AVR only as ARC and HDMI 2.0? Will the AVR just fill the extra speakers with duplicated signals from the nearest equivalent speaker? Will the HDMI 2.0 bring the 7.1 or will it downshift to 5.1? Secondly, using my Samsung LSP9T projector, can I send eARC to a processor and have that fill out the 7.2.4? How "full" would it get doing that?
Acoustic threatment is so underated yet I will say more important than # of channels on your home theater. But CAREFUL doing Fiber Glass absorbers without sealing it correctly can harm your lungs (lung fibrosis), better get polyester fiber absorbers, are more expensive but safe.
Recommend doing something similar - but... like, you know, how to go from a $500 system to $2k or $3k. You could do a whole series on getting to Dolby Atmos (5.1.2 or 7.2.4), etc at the different price points. I mean, mentioning $2800 amps when my whole budget is $3k, isn't really helpful, ya know? But, otherwise, cool video!
Yeah, since making this video, I’ve done a $1,500 - $1,800 budget breakdown of a few killer systems. So that’s pretty much middle of the road between micro budget and high end. 😄🤘
It’s capable of processing audio signals better when not needing to ALSO manage amplifying the signal to the speakers themselves. Better clarity and detail and more precise placement of audio within 3D space compared to a receiver that has to manage so many things simultaneously. Receivers do a decent job, it’s just on another level with dedicated professors working in tandem with external amps.
@@ealanosborne ok I got it Ya need to do a video explaining what pre outs on a receiver does as far as the channels go. Most receivers I've seen have two extra processing channels. But on another video you talk about hooking up both fronts and a center to an amp. Would this take up one of those channels or would I need to find a receiver that has 3 pre out channels
@@georgefremd1802 The more expensive AVRs are equipped with a full set of pre outs (9 or more channels). That’s why they’re so much more expensive, since it gives you the added option of using external amps to power your speakers, if you so choose. 👍
Love the videos! Is there a step-wise video that would come chronologically before this one? I.e Something like starting at your $1500 set up video, and working up to this one? I’m brand new to the home audio space (if you don’t count soundbars and cheap Vizio 5.1 systems) and will probably go with the Klipsch 5.0.2 system, the Klipsch 12in sub, and the Onkyo TX-NR6050 7.2 receiver (Costco for $825, $180, and $440 rn, respectively) but am not sure if there’s anything better to prepare for future-proofing w/o jumping into a 9- or 12-channel receiver. Any advice would help! Thanks!
Yeah, that’s a fantastic start (Klipsch 5.0.2, sub, Onkyo 6050). Unfortunately, not much of a middle step between that and getting a 9 channel receiver with pre outs. Then upgrade your front soundstage (left, center, right speakers), then power that front soundstage with an external amp, etc. But you’re on the right track. 😁🤘
@@ealanosborne Thank you for the reply! Just wanted to give an update of my plans and setup for the room. I ended up going with a full-RP, Tower, Klipsch kit I found on Adorama through the deals site SlickDeals, and had already purchased the Denton S760H Receiver and R-12SWi Sub from Costco for a 5.2.2 setup. My setup: Klipsch RP-404C 2.5-way Center (Kit Total: $1299) 2x Klipsch RP-280FA Towers (Inc. in Kit) 2x Klipsch RP-600M Bookshelfs for Surrounds (Inc. in Kit) Klipsch SPL-100 Sub (Inc. in Kit) Klipsch R-12SWi Sub (Costco online $190) Denon S760H Receiver (Costco in-person $399) 14/2 CL3/CL2, OFC Speaker Wire, 100ft and Banana Plugs, 24k Gold Dual Screw Lock, 12 Pairs (Amazon, not inc price due to variability) For a total of $1,888 (not including speaker wire), I hope this will sound noticeably better than a super budget setup. I really tried to make a Jamo setup work, and since they are owned by Klipsch I considered it, but ultimately with even their Concert series I just couldn’t pull the trigger. The other option, of course, was to go with the full Costco setup at roughly $1,490 (or potentially ~$1,290 if I waited until/if the 5.0.2 went back on sale at $699). For the extra ~$300-400 I ultimately justified that the R to RP jump would be worth it. I didn’t look extensively into other speaker brands for a few reasons. First, while there is a lot of hate for Klipsch out there, I personally like the way they sound, albeit it will less experience in hearing alternatives than most audiophiles. The other, somewhat silly, reason is that I grew up less than 30 minutes away from the garage in Hope, AR where Paul Klipsch founded the company, have family that knew him, many people in the community that worked for Klipsch throughout the years, etc., so there is definitely some sentimental value in the brand for me particularly. On the mismatching Subs: I haven’t gotten the Kit in yet, so I’m not 100% certain how the two subs will sound together. I honestly haven’t researched this yet, but I imagine both brand and model (or at least size) matching would be ideal, so I may have to return the R-12SWi to Costco if I can’t make it work. But I know that 2 subs running at 50% (theoretical) is better than 1 at 100%, so hopefully both together will work out. Do you have any books, or other good starting points (YT Channels/playlists, websites, etc.) for learning about how speakers actually produce sound - so I know what I’m actually looking at when reading the specs sheet of a given speaker’s spec page? I’m currently in med school, so am accustomed to and enjoy more in-depth reading and research, but don’t want to dive in absolutely head first and get overwhelmed, if that makes sense. I would love to hear your thoughts on what I ended up selecting, given the price! I am very new to the entire A/V and home theater setup and have really appreciated having your channel as a reference to learn about the field, so thank you for all the quality content that you produce!!

I'm new to this rabbit hole of home theater but whats the avr job at the this point if I'm using prosser and separate amp to power the speakers. CABLE MANGMNET I GUESS.
So if i get a 9.2 reciever i can do 7.2.2? And do i need amps? And processors? I thought you just needed a receiver and speakers. How do you know if you need amps and processors? Do you have a video explaining those?
Here's a video about soundbar/receivers/separates: ruclips.net/video/A9y7FwQ103w/видео.html Here's a video about separates in more detail: ruclips.net/video/L1o8sOO9J0k/видео.html In a nutshell, receivers are all-in-one processors and amps. "Separates" means there is a preamp that has no internal amps at all, and it HAS to be paired with a multichannel amp or several amps to power all your speakers. But they're much more expensive than your garden variety receiver.
I just wanted to ask what does everyone feel about Sony speakers, are they generally a decent quality? I’m considering buying a Denon receiver with Sony separates, or even a Sony home theater set up, with a denon receiver, but I just wanted to ask for some suggestions, from youtube. I will probably be buying the home theater parts, within the next year or so as well.
Sony speakers aren’t too bad. I’d say they’re on par with low end Polk audio speakers. Sony’s receivers are great, but my beef with them is that they make SO many different things. It’s usually best to stick with a company that specializes in only a few things. Klipsch pretty much just makes speakers and earphones. They’re audio specialists. So that why I’d choose their speakers over Sony. Make sense? 😀
@@ealanosborne hmm, well I will definitely consider klipsch, for speakers, with a denon Avr... I will also agree that Sony is generally a bit to wide spread of a base, but I will probably buy a Sony tv, depending on what is available when I build a movie/video game room.
@@ealanosborne yea, I hope the reviews of the x95j are good in terms of its local dining capabilities for movies. So Im about to 'swear' but not sure how to approach it. I have the Samsung Q950A sound bar, its 11.1.4 channels but basically a 7.1.4 system. Its really impeessive having come from an older 5.1 avr setup and totally blew it out the water. I do want to go back to an AVR and a 7.2.4 setup. Just dont know where to start. I dont want to loss height channels so going back to a 5.1 or 7.1 or even 5.2 or 7.2 just isnt an option. But then the cost is huge to get everything as pointed out. Where do you start? The only thing I really want to upgrade over the soundbar is two subs and on ceiling (home theatre is in a basement so cant do in ceiling) height channels.
Well, first off, how much are you willing to spend? And secondly, one of my semi-recent videos has a buying guide for $1,500-$1,800 budgets. Check it out! ruclips.net/video/Kaoryfmx-tU/видео.html

Gotta always throw my recommendation to go with the Monolith HTP1 over any of the Emotiva Processors. I only had the XMC-2 but can still confidently say the decision is easy to go with Monolith. Anyway I pretty much followed this plan and am so happy with that my current system.
@@dextermorgan1 I hear ya. That’s why I got the XMC-2 during a sale they were having. I loved the sound quality it brought over my Marantz Receiver, so when I decided to send it back I knew I wasn’t going back backwards. So I stretched my budget and can easily say it’s worth whatever extra money it costs. However, the current situation is different: the monolith may never be available again (who knows), anthem and Harman have raised their prices, and most surprisingly Marantz’s new processor is going to cost 7k! So, it’s relative I guess, but I’d still recommend not buying Emotiva.
I had a hell of time tuning my Yamaha 5.2 amp set up, so that I can hear a dialogue better, I can't even imagine only it would take to set up all these processors and external amps to in sync and harmoniously. l would probably just end up pulling up my hair. Not to mention the price
so is there a way i can achieve 7.2.4 with say the onkyo tx-nr6050 which is a 7.2 receiver? im gonna run 5.2.2 with it once i get my second sub. if i have to upgrade the receiver again later that's no big deal to me since i'm gonna stick with 5.2.2 for a while anyways being the first time i'll have ever experienced it. i've already accepted the fact that i'll have to get a external amp anyways. just curious if with the 7.2 receiver and an amp if i could pull it off.
Great question! But no…you’d need a 9 channel AVR with a full set of pre outs to achieve 7.2.4. 9 internal amps to pull off max 5.2.4, then yes, with the help of an external amp it can process 11 channels to achieve the pinnacle 7.2.4. 🤘
Ealan, I have a Pioneer SC-95 Elite receiver, and want to do a 7.2.4 setup from it. I don't have enough amplifiers in this receiver to do the complete 7.2.4 configuration, so what would you suggest I buy to power 2 more channels and keep my Pioneer unit??
Emotiva BasX A2 is a great way to expand to 7.2.4 without spending a fortune! 😁 BasX A2 - emotiva.com/collections/amps/products/basx-a2-stereo-amplifier?aff=11
Ealan, my room is very small, spare bedroom I'm going to convert to a dedicated front projection HT room. My concern is I don't believe 7.2.4 is possible due to the space constraints and tight quarters of my space which measures 12.5 x 12.5 x 9. Any thoughts appreciated
In a square room like that, a 5.2.4 setup will probably be best. 7 ear-level speakers is nice, but I’m actually publishing a video tomorrow about 7.1.2 vs 5.1.4 and the answer might surprise you! (Sorry…that sounded click-bait-y 😄) Ultimately, Atmos does best in a speaker setup that’s a cube/cuboid shape anyway, so you’ll still get great results in a 5.2.4 setup.
Ealan, question, i am thinking now of just going with a 5.2.4 atmos setup with my small room of 12.5 x 12.5 x 9 room . is it optimal to put the atmos channels in the ceiling positioned above the listening space for the rear ones, and locate the front atmos channels right above the front towers ? your thoughts appreciated, thanks,
@@troyhenry3267 That’s pretty much spot on. Although some might argue that keeping the heights in line with the front towers isn’t as effective as having the heights placed slightly narrower, between the front towers. 🤷♂️ Mine are in line and I get a good effect, IMO. Experiment if you can, like using heavy duty Velcro before having heights permanently up there. 🤘
No, unfortunately. The 933 would need a "multichannel in" section on the back to be able to act as a power amp for your x3700h, but it does not. That's typical with some 9 channel receivers.
@@georgiodavid Not sure if this is available in your region, but check out the Russound P75 stereo amp. Although that doesn’t have a trigger output either. Cheapest I know of is the Emotiva BasX A2, but that’s $500. Trigger output definitely makes it convenient, but if you want to save money and get the Yamaha amp for now, I guess it’s not too bad just to remember to turn it on manually each time. 🤷♂️
Love your watching your channel. Wanted to see if you could help me out. My room is 13’x17’ Looking in to buying the following Klipsch speakers for a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos. The x4700h is powerful enough, for sure, especially since the RP line of speakers are incredibly sensitive, so it doesn’t take much to get them nice and loud. But it’s not just about power. I’m always going to suggest anyone get an external amp because it improves the processing capabilities of any AVR. Music, dialog, and the many layers of sound effects find their own separated space. It’s wild. 🤘
@@reisespieces1841 Emotiva has the BasX line which is the most affordable right now. Outlaw Audio is another good one that's just a tiny bit more expensive than Emotiva. Hi Ealan, I am looking to set up a 7.2.4 dolby atmos system with Kplisch 4 X RP8060FAs, 2 X SPL 120s, and 1 pair of RP-600M speakers. If I buy 1 or 2 external amplifiers to power the entire set up of 11 channels, do I still need an AVR as beefy as Marantz SR6015? Or can I get away with an AVR that dosent output 110W per channel, since the speakers will be powered by the Emotiva amps? Please help!
Hi! You would still need a beefy AVR, since these days, those are the only AVRs that have a full set of pre outs in order to even utilize external amps. 7 channel AVRs don’t have a full set of pre outs, so it has to be a 9 channel (or more) AVR.
@@ealanosborne Thank you, Ealan. Will Marantz SR6015 be good enough with a combination of Emotiva XPA-11? SR6015 ouputs Up to 110W per Channel at 8 Ohms. Is that compatible with the Kplisch 7.2.4 set up I mentioned above?
@@Pandevaidehi27 Wow, yes. The XPA-11 is a beast, especially the 3 high-powered modules for your front left, center and right speakers. And the SR6015 can handle it. In fact, it will improve its processing capabilities, given that it will not be utilizing its own internal amps. Nice! 👍
Does tamber matching apply to subs? I have a 7.2 klipsch system with 1 klipsch sub and 1 onkyo thx sub. Both same size. It sounds amazing.. but should I go with another klipsch sub to match? Receiver is onkyo tx rz820.
Timbre matching does make a difference, but less so with subs since those are the frequencies that are more felt than heard directly. If it sounds amazing now, great! But I don’t think it’ll make too huge of a difference. But eventually down the road, I’d maybe invest in another Klipsch sub. Doesn’t hurt to have all matching branded speakers. 🙌

I can't get any Emotiva amp or Outlaw since I'm from Europe. I am eyeing the custom 14ch amp from Emotiva but it's the same price as 3 Marantz.
How about a video that can REALLY help those of us "caught in the fold"? We have the speakers and what "seemed" to be the perfect setup d(for my budget), ONLY TO FIND OUT that HDMI (ARC) does NOT support True Dolby Atmos!!!! Is there a way (FORGET Sonos), to push a true Dolby Atmos signal with ARC (as opposed to eARC)??? Can we push the audio and video separately? My understanding is that an optical cable will NOT support a Atmos signal. Ugh!!!!
How to get a divorse super duper fast🤣 The trick is to build up a lot of good will, and only upgrade a few components every year. And using your own money, not from a shared acount. Or buy a soundbar🙀 No dont do that!
I'm sorry man, but I'm going to say it. This is flat out bad advise. Step 1 was on point but 2,3,4,5 were all nonsense and here is way. You should buy a receiver that fills your needs and has the ability to run the speaker configuration you intend to run. That might be 9 channels, 7 or even 15. In terms of speakers, you should buy speakers that sound good to you. Everyone has a different preference for different speakers. Your pushing external amps hard but if your speakers are efficient or for example if you live in an apartment complex your not going to be able to turn it up very loud. You could be potentially wasting money on power thats never used. And last a dedicated processor is ideal but I can't buy into "audiophile myths" from youthman's video as a basis for buying it. Just my 2 cents.
Sorry. Seeing every time recommending brands like svs, klipsch and emotiva is tiresome (not to mention flawed-designed speakers like the center rp-504c). XLR only on high end subs? Look at monoprice thx series, there are only few of us which will ever need more than that. And finally not mentioning multiple subs.. Do some proper research than putting together something like we saw for milions-of-time. My 2c.

Starting at zero myself. See y'all in a few years. Road to 7.2.4/9.2.4!!🙏🏾
@@Pk1daTake your time. The joy is in the journey. I finally achieved a 7.1.4 setup and still looking for things to improve or modify. It doesn't end. 🤷♂️😁
@@felixsupreme22 😂😂 noted. And congrats on that 7.1.4💪🏾
I just upgraded to 7.2 and I'm blown away!!! Adding that 2nd subwoofer really made a difference. I don't even hear it, no boom, but the pressure is incredible. But now I'm thinking of going directly to separates. It's all about the detail !!!! Tonewinner looks very tempting.
My personal speaker buying plan when starting my home cinema quest is:
Phase One: Small Beginnings - 2.1
Phase Two: The Baseline - 5.1
Phase Three: The Next-Gen - 7.1.2
Phase Four: Atmos Elevated - 9.1.4
Phase Five: Atmos Endgame - 9.2.6
Phase Six: Auro-3D At Last - 9.4.8
I will only start with three channels (and the AV separates and TV too, of course) before building up little by little.
Adding three to four channels per phase, and having more media sources (disc players, consoles, computers, etc…)
Your phase titles are on point. 😁🤘

Yeah, whatever works for your situation! No shame in that! 😁🤘
Way back 2.5 years ago when i 1st went down this rabbit hole 5.1 was enough, ended up with a 9.2.6 😂 now back at 5.1.6
What a journey you’ve been on! And thanks for the repeat views! 😄🤘
I pulled the trigger on a Denon 3700h, OSD 7channel amp and 6 Klispch in ceiling speakers (2 of them handle rear surrounds). Sounds great so far. Next sound treatment.
Fantastic! And an OSD amp, that’s some excellent shopping, my friend! 🤘

@@ealanosborne No way! That’s only a foot smaller 😂 I was really debating whether that extra 12” was worth an additional $1250. Probably not 😅
@@ealanosborne hey, quick question while you’re here.
Completely off topic but as a hockey fan I have a huge grin on my face..
I can't help but think that our conversation inspired some of the content in this video.
Hey, don’t flatter yourself, Ben. But you might be right...possibly...maybe... 😄
I was thinking ARCAM as an upgrade to an AV Receiver instead of having to do amps and a processor. That ARCAM is CLEAN!

@@dennisbrown1296 Budget, I mean maybe you could find one at this price point but idk.
Soundbar peasant walking through. Oh mother of god, why i'm here?
Next step for me is the processor. I keep seeing hints at a massive Audyssey upgrade on the horizon. I am going to wait until that release which I presume will be on the next Marantz release replacing the 7706.
Can you make a dedicated video on room calibration with REW?
That’s on my list of upcoming things to film! Hopefully in the next few weeks!

Jealous! 😁🤘
I'm currently on 7.1, planning into adding one 7.1.4 avr and another one to try the "scatmos" with top middle speakers.
Endless LOL for the "it's not enough" segment breaks ... thanks for this great edutainment!!!

I know that feeling. It's like a never ending quest for perfection. I think I could be happy with 7.2.4. Though I have seen some setups with 4 subs. I wonder what that would be like. 7.4.4?
It’s all about properly pressurizing the space, so if 4 subs helps to ensure you have no dead spots or nulls, so be it! 🙌
Some of the new denon avr like x4700 and x6700 you can turn of the internal processing when you go all amps turning it into a prepro...

And then you have a 7.2.4 AND YOU WANT MORE..
Welcome to the audiophile life
Yes omg....🤣🤣🤣. Now I'm like ok I have my 7.2.4 with my A5...but should my heights have their own amp...maybe an A4 🤣🤣
Can you explain what happens when you have a 7.2.4 paired with a PS5 capable of 7.1, where the older Onkyo TX-NR1030 AVR only as ARC and HDMI 2.0? Will the AVR just fill the extra speakers with duplicated signals from the nearest equivalent speaker? Will the HDMI 2.0 bring the 7.1 or will it downshift to 5.1?
Secondly, using my Samsung LSP9T projector, can I send eARC to a processor and have that fill out the 7.2.4? How "full" would it get doing that?
Is it possible to connect a sound bar as a center channel speaker
So what is the receiver doing if you have a dedicated processor. Or are they both the same. Sorry I'm new to the scene
@@ealanosborne ok I got it
Ya need to do a video explaining what pre outs on a receiver does as far as the channels go.
My setup:
Klipsch RP-404C 2.5-way Center (Kit Total: $1299)
2x Klipsch RP-280FA Towers (Inc. in Kit)
2x Klipsch RP-600M Bookshelfs for Surrounds (Inc. in Kit)
Klipsch SPL-100 Sub (Inc. in Kit)
Klipsch R-12SWi Sub (Costco online $190)
Denon S760H Receiver (Costco in-person $399)
14/2 CL3/CL2, OFC Speaker Wire, 100ft and Banana Plugs, 24k Gold Dual Screw Lock, 12 Pairs (Amazon, not inc price due to variability)
For a total of $1,888 (not including speaker wire), I hope this will sound noticeably better than a super budget setup.
I am very new to the entire A/V and home theater setup and have really appreciated having your channel as a reference to learn about the field, so thank you for all the quality content that you produce!!

ruclips.net/video/A9y7FwQ103w/видео.html
Here's a video about separates in more detail:
ruclips.net/video/L1o8sOO9J0k/видео.html
In a nutshell, receivers are all-in-one processors and amps.

So Im about to 'swear' but not sure how to approach it. I have the Samsung Q950A sound bar, its 11.1.4 channels but basically a 7.1.4 system. Its really impeessive having come from an older 5.1 avr setup and totally blew it out the water.

But then the cost is huge to get everything as pointed out. Where do you start? The only thing I really want to upgrade over the soundbar is two subs and on ceiling (home theatre is in a basement so cant do in ceiling) height channels.

Gotta always throw my recommendation to go with the Monolith HTP1 over any of the Emotiva Processors. I only had the XMC-2 but can still confidently say the decision is easy to go with Monolith. Anyway I pretty much followed this plan and am so happy with that my current system.
Yeah but that thing is 4K. That's out of a lot of people's price range.
So, it’s relative I guess, but I’d still recommend not buying Emotiva.

so is there a way i can achieve 7.2.4 with say the onkyo tx-nr6050 which is a 7.2 receiver? im gonna run 5.2.2 with it once i get my second sub. if i have to upgrade the receiver again later that's no big deal to me since i'm gonna stick with 5.2.2 for a while anyways being the first time i'll have ever experienced it. i've already accepted the fact that i'll have to get a external amp anyways. just curious if with the 7.2 receiver and an amp if i could pull it off.

(Sorry…that sounded click-bait-y 😄)
Ultimately, Atmos does best in a speaker setup that’s a cube/cuboid shape anyway, so you’ll still get great results in a 5.2.4 setup.
@@ealanosborne sounds promising! I'll check out your video!!
so I have upgraded from Pioneer 933 7.1 to Denon 3700h 9.2/11.2 . so if I keep 933 can I use it as pre amp for 11.2?
No, unfortunately. The 933 would need a "multichannel in" section on the back to be able to act as a power amp for your x3700h, but it does not. That's typical with some 9 channel receivers.
@@ealanosborne i found this for 180€ Yamaha A-S201 amp but it has no option for power trigger 12v. Do you know any for 250€ budget.
My room is 13’x17’
Looking in to buying the following Klipsch speakers for a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos.
RP-6000F, RP-500M, RP-504C, CDT-5650-CII, SPL-120. Would the Denon AVR-4700H power this system efficiently and or will I need an amp? Or a bigger AVR?
Thank you
The x4700h is powerful enough, for sure, especially since the RP line of speakers are incredibly sensitive, so it doesn’t take much to get them nice and loud.
But it’s not just about power. I’m always going to suggest anyone get an external amp because it improves the processing capabilities of any AVR. Music, dialog, and the many layers of sound effects find their own separated space. It’s wild. 🤘
Thank you! What brands/models of external amps would be good? And would you have the amp power all the speakers?
@@reisespieces1841 Emotiva has the BasX line which is the most affordable right now. Outlaw Audio is another good one that's just a tiny bit more expensive than Emotiva. Then they get real expensive, real fast. Monoprice has their Monolith line, Emotiva also has some expensive ones too. :)
Depending on budget and system, you could power all your speakers with a giant amp, or build as you go by getting a 3 channel amp first, then maybe a 5 channel, or 7 channel, etc. Woohoo!
Thanks!
probably buy a 3 channel AMP to power the FL, FR and the Center and power the RL, RR and 4 Atmos speakers with the Denon AVR. Just gotta figure out what AVR and amp to get to power all that. lol hmmmmmm
@@ealanosborne last question! Lol
so what would you use for both the AVR receiver and amp to power all this? And use what to power what speakers?
Nice! 👍
I well I got stuck with a 5.2.2 😕 time to spend that stimmy. Lol
How to go bankrupt fast....lol! Great video!
@@ealanosborne but I want more!
@@carcar5911 Haha! 😄 I know, right?!
Nonsense, klipsch subs are outclassed by others. Buy the best performance, leave timber matching for LCR and surrounds.
@@pulDag sir.
Svs is the king of subwoofers.
You are spoiling me 😂
Once again great video, keep it up.
Dude your nuts keep up Great work -- fun high five 😊
Heehee, thanks! 😄
Mine kicks ass
This is top information Mr. EO, thank you! :0)
Has anybody used golden ear for speakers?
I’ve been trying to get them to send something to me with no luck yet. I want to put their speakers in my new construction home when it’s finished, but obviously want to demo them. Shane Lee has reviewed them on his channel. 🤘
@ level 4 but Hitting replays cos I want more! Well More than one Elon , rocknroll
Hey Ealan, with the Yamaha TSR-700 (also sold as RX-V6a) for just 7.2 with Bi-amp (pre-outs), (around $400 in Costco), can i power my atmos/height speakers with the bi-amp ?
Yeah that particular receiver can handle a 5.2.2 setup, where the “front presence” terminals are where you’d connect your Atmos height speakers
My Yamaha rx a 2020 is 9.2. but I can not run atoms right? I have to get a new one for that right ?
That is correct. 🙁 Just missed the cutoff before it started to become standard with 7 and 9 channel receivers.
@@ealanosborne thx, so do you think i should Upgrade to the full Layout and Upgrade after that to atmos or should i spend my money on an atmos receiver?
damn good recommendations. Please review monolith encore speakers. I really like the humour
Wow these are great... "but I want more!" lol, we all face this... Smh
- Live in a condo w neighbor’s at every side.
High volume not possible (just ATMOS separation/detail)
Would be $$ budget busting expensive to insulate all around,
Just acoustic treatment.
- Between $1,500++++ for 9.2 receivers
tons $$ of speakers, + amps, you’re talking in the $3-$7 grand
You’re 5 step divorce and bankruptcy plan is, well...
- Low sound volume inexpensive height speakers
Plus cosco klipsch $350 5.1 reference combo w 2 additional $90 spkrs
Plus The inexpensive $149 amp
you mentioned in you’re really cheap ATMOS system
Means a really inexpensive 7.1.4 ATMOS hurdle
is the receiver w pre amp outputs.
- Plus the current scarcity of quality ATMOS HDR movies right now is dismal.
Good video
Thanks!
If I'm dropping 1500 for a marantz receiver that powers 9 channels and processes 11, why would I buy external amplification for more than those 2 missing channels? Sounds like waste of money.
I know I've been spamming some of other videos (I think only two comments haha) with asking for a video that lays out what you'd consider a level 1 home theater to a level 10. However, this video is kinda that, so maybe I'll stop now lol.
Haha, yes, pretty much! I was honestly thinking about responding, but was also editing this video, so I thought “Yeah, this covers it.” 😄
so here is my plan:
Step 1: Get the Antem AVM70 and use the current receiver to power my 5.1 system
Step 2: Start with a single Marantz MM7055 to have 10 amps
Step 4: Get SVS speakers for a 9.2.6 config
Step 5: Get the last two MM7055 needed for 15ch amp at intervals so I won't go bankrupt.
I can't get any Emotiva amp or Outlaw since I'm from Europe. I am eyeing the custom 14ch amp from Emotiva but it's the same price as 3 Marantz.
Didn’t realize Emotiva doesn’t ship to Europe. Boo! That Marantz MM7055 is still such a beast. What an awesome plan!!!
@@ealanosborne I think they do ship, but for a $2k amp, I will pay around $3,7k with shipping and import.
@@mihai7645 there are Emotiva resellers in Europe. So basically you can buy $2k amp for 2k euros.
Yeah, definitely feeling like a peasant poor guy now. (And I have a brand new 5.2.2...) Lol.
You and me both! 🤣 My next move is a receiver with pre-outs, but I’m not shelling out $1,300+ for that anytime soon! Sheesh!
Ugh!!!!
I don't know if I'm prepared to sell my Camaro yet.
GIVE ME MOOOOOOORE
Divorce. Lmfao. Great video.
The biggest mistake most people make is budgeting for food and clothing ahead of their home theater.

No.

Thank you very much! 😀
How to get a divorse super duper fast🤣 The trick is to build up a lot of good will, and only upgrade a few components every year. And using your own money, not from a shared acount. Or buy a soundbar🙀 No dont do that!
Why do I have to have expensive hobbies 😢
My 2c.
