Me on my phone... "Yes I can definitely hear the difference"
Lmao same
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
LOL
😂😂😂
Literally no difference on the phone 😂
The problem with this technique is that if you change your route note of your 808 sync-phased with you kick, you will be getting phase problems anyways. So, unless you only hit one note in your 808, yet you'll be out of phase with your kick. Best way for me is to sidechain using, of course, Shaperbox 2 or 3.
Yessssss
you mean using Volumeshaper
@@housegeek3511 yes!
depending on the sound you want, you could play the kick at different pitches too
if you use the same notes on the kick the problem is now gone...simple.if you go wild on the 808 using more than 1 octave you can just create a separate kick and shape it with a pitch up/down automation on the tail and envelope-shape it to match the length and preserve the knock of the original sample. i take the second route everytime i am about to finish the arrangement.
i know it's a little bit laborious but i use fl studio wich has the best and most practical sampler out there so it's a non issue. remember guys, with post production corrections you always have 1 more chance of fu*kin it up, a good arrangement on the other hand got you covered 100% ott. BUT THE LAST JUDGE MUST BE YOUR EARS, IF IT SOUND THE BEST WITH SIDECHAIN USE IT WITHOUT HESITATION!
Shaperbox makes it EXCEPTIONALLY easy to do this. Super easy to get that perfect sidechain too!
I use Shaperbox also. I agree.
I gotta get shaperbox 😂😂
Just wasted about 20 min scanning through all these 75 hour long YT videos of dudes trying to give a whole dissertation on this subject which this guy just covered in 44 seconds. Kudos.
I cannot lie, I’ve been producing since like 2010 and that shit sounds the same to me lmao
it's literally the same
Critical listening is a skill
Me... 4 hours into a YT binge, listening on my phone speakers.
"Oh yes... Much more punch!"
This was the BEST demonstration I’ve found so far
You’ve sold shaperbox to me many a times through these videos !! And now I finally know what I want for Christmas 😂
This is due to a phenomenon known as superposition, where both waves are perfectly in sync increasing their overall amplitude
Phase/polarity check between kick, bass sounds, different snares, and every low-end-heavy instrument is KEY!! Side-chain remains weak as long as the audio waves take energy away from each other.
You guys are the best info on RUclips. Simple things like this have helped me tremendously. It’s kind of shocking that this is the first time I’ve seen this simple but extremely effective technique used considering all the hours of “tutorials” I’ve watched. Thanks!
Bro knows how to kick and punch in the right way 👊 Thanks 😊
It's all in the mind 🥊
If you get your 808/sub out of serum or a different synth where you can control where the phase starts you can easily play with the phase knob till it lines up
Finding out about this was a milestone in my lowend production. Thanks for sharing this 🙏
You're welcome!
So informative
but once 808's pitch changes then the phasing occurs again
the best thing to fix phasing is to sidechain not to change polarity
Side chain doesn’t sound as good for this kinda of “ trap “ style tho.
That’s not a big deal, once the patterns goes back to the root note the kick sounds hard again adding dinámic, and it’s not necessary to put a kick under every 808
@@MephistobeatzDynamic? In my modern electronic music!
God no, quick crush it with an OTT. Better make it 3!
u dont have to overcomplicate music at times. just do a sidechain and thats it.
WOW, this looks great. I need to win this right now.
Dude your a Ledgend thanks yet again
This was helpful thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Makes sense when you think of how we actually create the 'sound', eg oscillating paper discs. If you have contrary low frequency waves its going to test the limits of the technology to accurately reproduce that sound.
Great creative tool, amazing...
Very important to Note is that if the kick and sub are in the same Key. Phase will be much more likely and much easier to align with volume automation for example or fading :)
This is great
I do this all the time i even sometimes automate the polarity as well. Cuz of the bass notea
I've done this before too. Just watch out for later effects in the chain (eg, distortion or clipping) changing the sound due to the flipped waveform. I'll cover this more in a future vid 👍 - Joe
"If you want the tightest-"
BTW this made me find out how much InPhase (by waves) is unprecise, cause it add some latency to the sidechain signal.
Brilliant
My headphones literally vibrating my ears.
I use a Tribit-BTH71, best in its price segment, i think.
I usually use kilohearts disperser to snap the phase together but I’m unsure if an all pass filter does this same thing but man does it sure sound good lol
Awesome
Good stuff.
👊
that's sick
👌
Nice!!!
👊
1. What are you going to do about that peak they created? ( try sending the kick and bass grooup to the osciloscope and then check the summed signal, i’m sure theres gobna be huge clipping there)
2. How you gonna align them if the kick tail and bassline frequency are not equal?
the secret lies in your username... CLIP
Plot twist, the 808 is a kick...
And then there’s me who just uses the spinz 808 with bass bash and no kick lol
The irony of watching a video about how to get the "punchiest kick" is not lost on me
🤣
Its lost on me can you explain please
Cool😊
Use a 606 and layer with a band pass.
But what about when you play a different bass note and suddenly the kick and bass are out of phase again? I guess you could align the kick and bass according to the most frequently used bass note but you'll never have perfect alignment for all notes unless the kick is also keytracking which is a big no-no.
i routed the kick in but i cant see the kick overlayed in shaperbox
This is the reason that I just do the arrangements and a rough indicator mix now. I am just never going to be both a composer and a mix engineer. Two different worlds.
When someone says "There's some inaudible low-end cluttering up your mix" I just back away slowly as if from a rabid dog.
Right on! 👊
I wouldn’t worry about it too much tbh, 99% of producers/musicians (let alone actual listeners) couldn’t tell the difference
Hey, i could see you had to edit the video to zoom in, why not add the zoom function to the plugin itself?
I need to seriously go to school on this. Is there documentation that can walk me through this technique?
Google "phase cancelling"
How can i make this in FL studio any 3rd party vst needed?
Ah. I’ve just realized that all these videos are just ads.
How do you zoom in?
He doesn't mention this in the video, but this should be used in combination with completely ducking the bass during the initial transient of the kick (which you can see he has done). Reaper ReaGate (in ducking mode), Devious Machines Ducker, Xfer LFO Tool, Cableguys Volume Shaper and other plug-ins can do this. Just remember to use a bit of lookahead so the bass is completely silent when the kick starts, and use an oscilloscope to perfectly fade in the bass with the tail of the kick ✌️
How to do this in Logic Pro?
To invert polarity in Logic, load the Gain plugin and toggle both left and right phase invert buttons 👍
wow
Lol you didn't need shaper box 3 to do that my friend.
This looks great, the only thing holding me back is I have one question.. How does shaperbox handle latency in ableton when triggering from the kick? I’ve seen there are issues if there are latency causing plugins before shaperbox in the chain
This is one of the benefits of the new Audio Triggering: unlike song sync data, audio is properly compensated by Live, so it works around Live's latency bugs 👍
@@Cableguys great news, consider me convinced! Thanks for clearing it up
When mixing songs with both 808s and kicks- I’ve often noticed that certain notes of the 808 pattern are out of phase with the kick, but only certain notes. So, I end up having to split the 808 melody into 2 separate tracks, one track with the polarity flipped, the other not. And this is both before and after processing… Why is this?
Because the kick stays the same and as you increase in 808 pitch the peaks and troughs get closer and closer together and at some point end up phase cancelling with the kick again. Your notes that sound better with the polarity flipped may have been ones that would otherwise, for the aforementioned reason, be out of phase with the kick
@@TorontoPopulistConservative For sure. I think many engineers overlook this. They often keep their 808 on one track, not realizing that certain notes of the 808 pattern are out of phase with the kick, and therefore need to be on a seperate track with polarity reversed (or an automated utility plugin, which seems more tedious). Without this remedy, certain kicks will hit harder than others, depending on the note. Critical to get this right!
@@HollerAtcherBoi This is why it sucks to be the composer, producer, and engineer. By the time I'm done composing and arranging it starts sounding good and the rose coloured glasses go on making me think that nothing else needs to be done. Hell, I didn't even get that far with most of my projects.
Yes, but… how do I get my eyebrows to do that?
I think i found my way out of beginner producing videos
you look like jim of the office
Er… thanks! 😅
Hey, thanks for the tips! what software do u use?
You're welcome! This is ShaperBox running in Ableton Live.
Uh...I'm just gonna listen to the radio....😳
100%
Basslane Pro?
What is shaperbox?
wooow
👌
How are you able to see both waveforms? Mines has them together so I cant really tell which waveform is which.
I covered how to use ShaperBox's Oscilloscope tool in this video: ruclips.net/video/TMQoYn1nUjk/видео.html - Joe
@Cableguys I'm doing this already but both waveforms show up as gray. Here you can tell by one being orange and one being gray. Could it be because I'm using FL Studio?
@@damntones8821 That's unusual. Could you email our support team at contact@cableguys.com so we can look into this? Thanks!
Any easy way to do this in fl?
Yes click on your kick sample and there will be an option to reverse polarity
I still can't get past this guy, being super signal and level savvy, but soooo unlikely to ever be in the crowd between two speakers in a banging set or performance, flinging sweat and throwing shapes.
Ha, I've definitely done my fair share, both behind and in front of the decks! 😅 - Joe
Is this an fl studio stock plugin?
No, it's Ableton Live's Utility device.
Guys I am sorry to ask this, but what software is he using???
Shaperbox
ShaperBox 3 👍
I don't do none of this 😅
How about a good sounding kick? Punchy seems to always sound like crap.
Explain that on the mpc 😂 please
Yea now they add and clip...
That is preferable to phase cancellation, comb filtering, etc 👍
If you ain’t red linin, you ain’t headlinin
@@Kai_soze Or you can fade in both clips where they overlap and its louder without seeing the red.
Then adjust, smarty pants
All i hear is Ye 😭
How tf you gonna fix that

@@jaypatd69 hahahaha Damn jimmy, your a toxic human being hey? Do you need to talk to someone, I’m not even being sarcastic.. you sound troubled, deeply.. To attack someone on a RUclips feed.. especially on a playful comment… are you okay?
This is so stupid. You'd have a better result by just automating the volume of the kick and the bass so they don't overlap that much, then you can make them louder since you're not getting as much interference. Constructive interference is how you get clipping, if you eliminate it you can boost the volume higher without distortion. Instead of eliminating interference the suggestion in this video literally enhances it instead.
ok disinformation. its rarely this easy
That's called phase cancellation kids 🥱.. basics mixing tecnic 101.....
