How To Sidechain Kick And Bass Like A NINJA 🥷

- Опубликовано: 15 июл 2023
- Here's how to mix kick and bass/808 with surgical sidechain ducking! Multiband sidechaining is a ninja technique for locking in in your low end, without obvious pumping caused by regular sidechain compression.
Plugin used in the video: ShaperBox 3's VolumeShaper

Shaperbox is such a lifesaver
Kickstart
@@RedHunterOfficial Nah mate this is Shaperbox not kickstart.
I dont have it 😢
Doable in your native daw. At least flp
@@marcelszekowski315It's pretty cheap
That loop is CRAZY 🔥
is a splice sample, THE_KOUNT_81_drum_loop_handdrum_upbeat
The “extreme pumping” actually sounded pretty good
Agreed! In fact, I used the same bass but with obvious pumping for a B section later on :)
I like pumping sometimes. Sometimes not
@@Cableguysalways forgetting that there is a and b. Great tip btw 👍👍👍
This is a really good tip. He gives us better tips in a minute than almost every 20 minute explanation I've ever watched. Love shaper box. Game changer for me.
He’s trying to sell you a product. It’s not a bad product but there are free alternatives.
Is there a free fl studio plugin that can do this?
I like when the bass have that stutter effect, so i'll keep doin the old fashion way, it's not like anyone other than me like the shit i make anyway
bro your a legend. not only you buy the plugins but get life time advice in how to take your music game to levels beyond. keep up the great work champ. legendary
Again such a sick beat 🔥
my first thought too. so hard
That snippet of the beat is sooooo good 🔥
I've been doing this with Peak Controller and an EQ in Fl Studios for years. Same technique, never found a more flexible one.
DUDE! I’ve been looking for this exact technique for weeks to understand how my favorite producers have kicks and basses that don’t clash but aren’t pumping. Thanks for sharing as always! 🙏
Invisible sidechaining aka multiband sidechaining which can be done with the multiband compressor built into Ableton for anyone without shaperbox
You’re convincing me day by day that I need to upgrade to shaperbox 3 man…
Kickstart 2 is good, and it's only $15
I don't use Shaperbox, but have been doing this for a long time if I don't want obvious 'pump'. There are many ways to accomplish this & it can be applied to anywhere in the frequency range on any elements that are conflicting.. done subtlety, the whole song gently pumps too 😎
Exactly.
Katana Kick cutting through the Samurai Bass, alright 👌🥳
This is one of my favorite features of shaperbox
We’ve been spending our crazy hours learning mixing, twisting knobs and has this belief analog plugins are the secret. However after a decade, i just realized that all the process before mixing is the one that really makes the 90% of the song good.
This video for example, this is not mixing, rather, sound designing. We should tailor our sounds already like we don’t need mixing. The choice of eliminating dozens of sounds or deciding when theyll play together rather than EQ masking a ton of them, this is also not mixing but its arrangement.
Thats hard🔥...minus the tip that actually goes hard...love to hear the full beat
That‘s amazing being able to sidechain only certain frequencies
In Ableton you have an EQ built into your compressor exactly for this kind of stuff
@Meminjo thats not the same thing as this. Thats a detection EQ where as this is only compressing the lows.
@@JamieSolan you can easily build a dry/wet rack, apply LP to the Wet and Sidechain afterwards.
@@nicorentzsch9946is there a video you like that explains this?
@@JamieSolan i purposefully spread misinformation online
People love this pumping effect because is great to be honest ..makes it more exciting basically ... But I think its more exciting making a better arrangement decision because you still can get a nice and punchy relationship between those two elements without having to obligate the bass go down when kick hits. Wha I hear is basically it gave the bass the grove that was missing , something that could be done from the beginning. Sidechain has became the easy way to not bother producing and go straight to mixing. Lets face it we all want that subs down there shaking the entire building but also the kick breaking the basement ..but nobody wants to sit ,analyze and create . Just keep throwing beats and loops everywhere ...we fix it in the mix mentality.
bro wtf are those drums 🤦♂️🔥🔥🔥
Sounds like a drum loop from splice made by the kount.
Facts : mixing kick and bass is the easiest thing if you choose the right sounds.
haven't tried shaperbox but it looks convenient. can achieve a similar affect with sidechain eq/ multiband compression. I saw some ppl asking how to use the low end as the trigger,, if your eq/comp dont have an internal sidechain filter, you can make a send for your drum loop and low-pass to isolate the kick as your side signal
This was already possible, but Shaperbox makes it sooo much easier
Trackspacer
Trackspacer is dope, works well alongside Shaperbox
I find shaperbox to be cleaner than trackspacer
Lol you realise there are 100s of apps for this including those native to your daw
@@Reggi_Sample Of course, I'd dare say that most DAWs have native plugins that cover 80-90% of what's commercially available. People often buy plugins not for core functionality but for usability and flavour, and Shaperbox is no exception for me. The interface permits a very unified way to get several time-based effects happening in tandem, and I find it much more conducive to creative production than my native automation tools.
Sidechain it's the key!
Make an ableton effect rack with 3 channels with auto filters. One soloing highs, one lows and the other mids.
Put a compressor on the signal soloing the lows and set it to side chain mode with the kick signal as input.
Send your bass and all sounds you want mixed with the kick through this entire rack.
Adjust compressor and filter mix to taste.
Shaper box is still dope though.
the breaking bad x regular show crossover is crazy
Thank you cable guy 🙏
You're welcome! 👍
The pumping actually sounds fire
Sounds so good ......
using subwoofers will always result in better mixing for low-end in my experience, when I use headphone, the kick sometimes just too loud when playing on a subs, or it's just my preference😊.
Dude, I was searching for vst effect like this, I do it manually everytime. So much time savier ;)
That is fascinating.
This is such a great tip!
First time I have seen this technique for enhanced ducking. Certainly never seen the feature on any of my plug ins.
I love shaper box ,I've started using it more and more now! Very versatile!
That's awesome. Enjoy!
When I started making music like 20 ago, I could not understand why there was not a way to specifically side chain a certain frequency band. Only the whole thing. Then, years later things like Fabfilter and Waves F6 came out where I was finally able to do exactly that.
Shaper box is such a useful tool
That beat hard af
shaperbox compressor is my go to sidechain plugin because it has Hold option which is cool and this freqeuncy band setting
That's actually work! Thanks cableguys❤
You're very welcome!
ShaperBox is so Powerful!
Dang this is really nice
Thanks!
Love the drums loop 😊
So, now i have to try that with a bunch of Hardware EQ and Comp 😂
You the best
Nice 👍🏻
Sidechaine is goated
brilliant tip !
I like the pump. But that is a great tip if the bass flow is more appropriate.
Thanks a lot man💚
No problem at all! 👍
Super Tip!
Fire track too
Awesome😊
Brilliant
Shaper is a great lfo tool
Noice!
back in the days edm producers used to talk about SIDECHAIN-COMPRESSON as some alien shit.
That's true - it's a lot more common and understood today!🛸👽
I usually do this manually on grossbeat then turning the fx down to 75%😭 those are some nice features
Yeah I need to get this plugin
You can do this for free with TDR Nova or any dynamic EQ plugin.
nice
Idk idve kept that ducking sounded good
Super cool. What software is that?
Dope
Fire
There's lots of words there that I didn't understand, but it sounded great! 😁
Thanks 😆
HOLY SHIT
I send the drums to an aux, then hpf, then use that aux as a trigger for a low shelf dynamic band on the bass
You duck your bass with the whole hpf signal from the aux drums ? Why do you prefer to trigger you bass low shelf with with a bassless signal ?
i do exactly the same with multiband compressor
is this the same as Filter Shaper? it seems so. Please, let me know the difference so I get this one also.... I bought the whole ShaperBox 3 and I love it 👍 👍 👍
Now to figure out how to do this in Caustic 🤔
🔥🔥🔥
I saw you were at 999 likes, so I made it 1K 🎉
You rock! 👊
Or use souds that fit each other and a eq
JUST OL NORMAL MULTIBAND SIDECHAINING
oh damn fr
You can also just make the shape actually fit the kick and buy yourself a snappier kick transient in the process.
Sometimes I low pass wavesfactory trackspacer to do this same thing
Track sounds elite. Where can I find it
Fire beat 😮🧯What is it? And take my like 👍
You can do this with a free plugin called TDR Nova
I do like this method.. but then I like trackspacer for this
or get something like trackspacer ^^
is this from a longer video? I would like to see how you select the kick as the trigger
That shit sounds like if dunes a mixture of some black panther
its also called EQ sidechaining you can do this by an EQ too
I was wondering about how this band splitting feature handle the phase, are the crossovers linear?
Why not just use opposing EQ boosts and cuts? For example, boost the kick before 60hz, and cut above. Then do the opposite on the bass for a mirrored span of frequencies.
Trackspacer
Is there an easy way to adjust the input signal of the drum break so that just the kick would trigger the sidechain with shaperbox, or is it only possible with ableton‘s gate and other workaround’s? Thanks!
Am I the only one who didn't notice an issue to begin with? It literally just sounded completely normal
Masking? Yes
Dammmmnnn 😳
What tool do you recommend for someone who's starting off their music production journey? Thanks
I guess i can do the same thing with lfo tools of xfer records?
Is shaperbox similar to envelope follower? They results seem the same at least
Do u think that skrillex use same kind of sidechain? , last house techno tunes sound crystal clear low end🔥
Is this effecting the phase? Is there a lin. phase mode?
Where can I listen to the full beat?
How would this work in with using MB compression at the same time on your ducking like I've seen many producers use before (combo of volume/mb compression)?
🙂
How do you restrict ducking? :O
