Try moving the attack on the envelope of the 808 just a lil bit. It allows the kick to punch through and the 808 provides the sustain. It gives more headroom too.
I was searching to learn proper mixing on kick and 808 - very surprised how detailed this video is… THANK YOU!!! I am new to programming and just doing it for fun - usually don’t use 808s but will now that I have this info 👍🏻
I attenuate the lows at 110hz for pretty much everything that isn't the kick or 808. Gainstage around the 808/kick. Put all the drums on one bus and compress. Send that to another bus with slight reverb and compress. Side chain the kick to the 808. Using logic go to the multi effects and use phat effects, increase saturation, boost the bass at the 80hz frequency. Also I sometimes fade the kick transients and the 808 punch.
The whole point of using an 808 is the long-lasting punch, the reason your kick doesn't fit in with the 808 is either cause the 808 already has a transient beginning (kick), phase trouble or the sound selection doesn't go together. Depends the mix/sound you're going after, but using sidechains tends to leave a more EDM-ish taste. Different producers do different stuff to their 808. Some sidechain, some don't, some don't even use a kick in the first place. You don't have to mix your beats at all if you're not selling your beats as a finished product, cause someone else is gonna mix them. Mixing doesn't necessarily mean "changing" the sound, so yeah, the samples are already designed with compressors, saturators etc., but you still need to fit those samples in YOUR whole picture right? So if you're cutting all the mids from the melody so your 808 is the main character in the mix, you'll need to compensate and use something to bring the 808 to life in the mid range or it's gonna sound empty, which means...you'll have to mix your 808. 😉
Amazing work! I am super happy I found your channel. You have helped me greatly in my journey through music. Thank you for your hard work and can't wait to see what else you create ✨️
Actually I want to be able to recreate Lorna shore and devourment breakdowns entirely with layered distorted tuned kicks instead of guitars, any advice for that ?
what i do to make my 808 hit i put an eq + limiter i compress it a little bit + sidechain + add saturation + boost the gain a little bit and it works always
most 808s are compressed out the box, adding more compression does nothing other than raising the gain (unless you set a high threshold, then the gain increase is attenuated, which probably isnt good because the 808 will be overcompressed and sound less powerful). EQing is valid i do that a lot. sidechaining is unnecessary if you have good kick/808 samples. Adding a limiter is the same as over compressing. Saturation i rarely use but in some cases it might make ur 808 sound better. Essentially all u rly need to do is raise the gain, the rest is extra assuming you have good samples

I hate to break it to u this is very weak sauce beginner advice, there's a guy leaking audio school material the shits rare look up alexmadeit
sidechain is better option
@@2kIlIx bro 💀 sidechaining is terrible advice look up “PIERRE BOURNE MIXING SAUCE + PROOF” thank me later
@@2kIlIxon which mix did you make a comparison on to come up with that statement?
"Mix the track around the 808 instead".
That is the most time saving thing I've learned in making beats. It's so simple but never considered it.
Larry Oh is a PsychOh for using the white theme.

Is taking out the low end in all of the sounds and letting the 808s stand out does that do this also?
White FL Studio is malevolous
Okay but how do I stop myself from using the spinz 808 every beat 🙏🏽
Delete it😂😂
When is fl 21 dropping?
Awesome video, very concise.
Awesome video, thank you! This light mode decreased the lifespan of my eyes with 8 years, but my beats sound better now :)

This dope Tip. U get me
Another great video man. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ✊🏼
Is it worth not putting the 808 in mono if you want to do panning effects with it?
It won’t pan if you put it in mono.
Still need a soft clipper tho
Great Tutorial I'm sidechaining from now on

sidechaining the kick is controversial ive talked to very prominent producers an heard two sides to it
I’ve heard both sides. I still like to sidechain when it’s needed for me.
You deserve to be subcribed bro appreciate for the video i had problems in mixing 808 with the kick 😢
yea, that was a fun notice, when i figured out that any processing i added to my 808 and kick just made things worse 😬
the color is amazing but the dark one is good for the eyes if you are spending hours in making beats
White fl studio
Ofcourse the samples are already processed. Don't process them again and destroy the quality. You don't cook pizza again after ordering it do you?
Is your whole song just an 808?
Thanks. You got everything covered lol
Drop your flp mane 😭
