Windows 11 Icons vs Windows 10 Icons!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2021
- Here's a comparison of most of the icons from Windows 10 (Version 20H2) and Windows 11 Insider Preview (Build 22000.51). Not all icons were included, however the most significant ones were used in this video. No Metro apps appeared to have significant redesigns when comparing both builds.

Most of the new icons are good but some of them look like they just turned the Windows 10 version of the icon to the front and called it a day...
I mean those was still good and feels modern that is why. Turning them is just make them look like different so user won't feel all stuff is the same completely
Yeah making them face front actually makes them modern (for me) but damn that sim card icon was literal remake to face front without any changes
I like material design, but in bigger sizes the icons should be more detailed, like screen and glass glare, left-facing icons to make the depth clearer, and things like so.
I still think it looks good
There are some of them which seem weird to me like the document icon and the control panel, also that documents folder seems weird to me.
The Windows 10 installer has been haunting me for ages....
@Leii they updated shell32.dll (the file that stores almost all the icons).in win10 there were a lot of 95/98 icons.
sameee
windows 11 saved you :D
@@saturniunyttech679 There are also a lot of XP Icons in there.
sameeeeee
They FINALLY updated the windows installer icon after it being the same for over 20 years (I think)
And the notepad icon after 15 years
Oh, and the new drive icon that you showed is from Windows 10 21H2 beta (I know because I tested it) and it doesn’t have the Windows 11 logo so probably it is the beta icon
Actually the shell32.dll, it contained alot of winxp icons
@@ojaskashyap5839 yeah, and even some 98 icons like the recycle bin
it doesn't make sense that the icon still has a disc since nobody actually uses them to install things anymore (on PCs, at least) but its still an improvement. i guess its like how save icons are sometimes floppy discs, and the icon for the phone app on smartphones is a telephone handset
2:20
I prefer the old Notepad rather then the new one, the new one looks, so, apple's-like
The old Installer icon always gave me nostalgia when looking at it
And that fear of opening it not knowing if something bad happened to your pc
@@chinchin948 Same the old installer logo gives me some fear and nostalgia at the same time
yeah pretty pixelated and just boring
@@vortiez.
I mean it has been the same since win95
I honestly like both of the designs. Windows 11's Icons feel simpler and make more sense when they're small having less details that would not be seen anyway, but Windows 10 ones have really cool and subtle details (being mostly just flatten-out Windows 7 icons). Look at the Video file icon, they literally drew 2 consecutive frames on film!
Me too
I also find a bit of humor in some of them. Mostly because the Windows 10 3D objects one looks like it's putting a cube inside a Windows 7 era file folder, and that amuses me greatly.
@Tejas not always
@Tejas nah
@Tejas stupid
Windows 11 in a nutshell:
LET'S MAKE EVERYTHING FACE FORWARD!!! 😱😱😱
And make it a bit round and color popped haha
Pretty much
and staring at your soul
Lol haha
@POYU and some were straight up 95/98 icons (like Windows Installer)
Is it me or does the Windows 11 Icons look like Windows 10 evolved backwards from 3D to 2D?
Absolutely.
It evolved forward, because 2d us simpler and more recognisable.
I don't think so, then why is everything is getting simpler more and more. If we would evolved forward we could handle more difficult objects and Icons easier than just simplifying them. That's not evolving in my eyes, well it is but backwards....
@@jok3r815 you're wrong earlier there used to be 3-D icons which used to looked ugly and inconsistent. 2-D icons looks much better
@@arunabhx8688 yeah sure, then why don't we accept this challenge and try to get 3D Icons look better than 2D instead of just using 2D icons and simplifying them? And saying 2D icons look better is a thing of personal opinion, like I prefer 3D Icons and you seems to 2D icons....
that one guy that created the new c drive icon: yeah lets just make it the same but the driver icon is looking to the front
@Aarati Karaba they did
@@txe1nd 2:29 are you sure
@@Wyatt516 they just made the color slightly darker.... and that's it
Guys Martin used the Windows 10 21H2 ocon for the C: Drive by mistake, the real C: icon has the new icon
@@itsprodigit YOU WATCH WINDOWS ICONS VIDS TOO??????
4:57 Finally, it took Microsoft almost 30 years to set the Recycle Bin in proper position...
But what's the problem with the position?
I honestly love the new recycle bin
But what’s with the position? Does it look deformed?-
In my opinion, it looks better facing the front. It actually matches other desktop icons which face the front.
ITS WINDOWS 11 BRO !!!
2:21 They finally updated installer icon which had been used since 2000 XD
Since 1995
sad :(
That icon was cool and retro
It looked nice tho
5:54 oh so you like fluent design?
Name every icon.
@Swastik Mohanty XD
I want to look at every Fluent Design icon, I even want (for example) WordPad, Character Map, Movie Maker and every discontinued/defunct app/program with Fluent Design.
Good windows
I would really like if they made an win 95/98 /XP / 7 theme in it 🙂
Classic theme for Windows 11. Oh god.
You can.
@@ITAC85 NO IST bruh my one still use 7 but its a sh t I prefer 11
the new icons may be "oversimplified" but damn they're perfect
the c:\ drive one is incorrect. there isnt a win 10 logo on it. instead an 11 icon
It's the leaked version icon not latest build icon
Prob because windows 11 isn’t fully completed yet
Yeah it’s the Windows 10 21H2 drive icon

The new installer icon will definitely take time to get used to it. I am so accustomed to old icon.
Everyone has been seeing the same icon for over 20 years.
Me too
Windows 10-3D icons, Windows 11-2D icons, but changing the windows installer icon is very sad since it has been since the 90s
Finally the folder icons are actually something other than just the folder image with an icon
great video as always!
Thank you!
5:44 that settings in windows 11 is actually the same icon of early 2021 Windows 10 Dev Build settings icon. Even the library folders are the same.
Because that windows 10 builds is actually Windows 11.
Libary Folders icon got slightly changed so no. They Aren’t the same.
I honestly don't know how you can oversimplify anymore then Windows 11 other then making Windows 11 logo 1 square. Sad times we live in unfortunately.
Windows Installer icon was the best icon update in windows 11.
I love that they kept the disc
And finally Windows Installer got a new icon...
How do you feel about Microsoft giving you an update even though Microsoft ended support for you last year?
@@zank8470 It was nice!
@@zank8470 what Win7 got an update after end support?
To be honest I hate all of the new icons for Windows 11, all they did was make everything looks simpler and 2D, not 3D
cry about it
@@santiagocarrer7394 ://
Yes? That is the sense of it
I think you used the wrong C drive icon, the new one has the e win 11 logo, the one you used is from the windows 10 insider builds
Noted. I did try to get this video as accurate as possible but sometimes mistakes occur
they had changed for a new Fluent Design icons... thank goodness microsoft.
Hi! This video is cool for me.
Thank you!
i Love The New Icons And The Folders Ahhh, So good
I dont
Windows 11:
Round corners, mac look and everything in front. THAT'S IT!
And don't forget, the like 5 new features nobody asked for.
@@ITAC85 it’s not the users decision’s for features.
I don't like how they turned all the folders horizontally like Mac. Looks like they're straight up copying with that. Everything else I'm fine with.
funnily enough, the redesign of the folders is mainly the only thing I'm fine with
Also, they brightened the color of most of the icons though, such as User Account Control at 5:06 and System and security at 5:59.
cant wait to hear people complain about simple icons
Same.
It is a bit depressing for the creators-
I can imagine how hard they worked on it
Too late....
2:18 Sincerely i felt a bit uncomfortable with this Installer icon change,i saw this icon for 10 years now ,brings back memories.
It desperately did need a change though. It’s been like that for like 25 years
@@NR20244 yes of course, nothing lasts forever.
There's something about the new File explorer icons, which makes me prefer the old ones. Looks like the new icons have been taken from Linux or other poor looking OS, which look like cheap plastic toys. At least the old ones had the "consistency", whereas with the new - some icons are round, and some are square, and every one is oversaturated.
Ikr
everything's staring into my soul and i like it
LMAO i thought of the same thing, while i was watching i was like "omg why windows 11 icons staring into my soul? thats creepy.."
@@expression9375 yeah but i like the new design tho
@@AtmosPres same bruh, i really like the simple icons and the gradient colors there
the face of oversimplifying
logos are being more simplified these days
I don't think that this is bad
It sucks.
@@alintosq i agree. I think oversimplifying is a good thing too.
i like the windows 10 icons more
Same. Windows 10 icons were 3d, windows 11 icons are 2d
Some may say "Boo hoo Microsoft turned them into super simplified icons facing foward". But I think the icons are good enough, they don't need to be that detailed, as it's effort not being that appreciated. I mean, you can understand them, they're easy to identify even if they're small, and you don't need to see details or something; in the other hand, they're just friendly, y'know, simple but good. So... yeah, at least this is my point of view, because they're just what they are, icons, not logos, icons, and they're just fine to work with.
I agree
Windows 7 icons were also easy to identify even when they had so much detail
well i like the windows 10 icons and the 11 too but i like win 10 more cuz im more used to it but im going to need to get used to the windows 11 icons
I love these new icons, Microsoft's operating systems are really getting modern and modern as time goes by!
@ふらふら It is just getting modern! I already love them.
@ふらふら I mean both, modern and simplified. 😉
@@JEsGamingLife Just because the icons are simplified, doesn't mean they are 'modern'.
Huh? You like this?
Of course, duh, I mean people have different opinions.
4:08 This is very true
Finally Microsoft discovered consistency after years
No they haven't, there are windows 8 relics and windows 10 relics that isnt modernized yet
@@xondisw Dont need to fix something that is already fixed
when i upgraded to w11 my first imprssions was the folders i had on my desktop and they look really good
but WHY is still there control panel AND settings?
WHY did control panel get a new icon?
The old program icon actually had some more detail. Windows 11's is just a blue square and lines. Although i do like how the folders are unique instead of 2 generic icons mashed together (like the document folder was just the document icon inside the folder icon)
2:33 lol, Windows 10 logo on Windows 11 drive icon
2:29 *this one* has me wondering: why did they decide to keep the old Windows (10/8) logo overlaying on the newer drive (C:\ Drive) icon?
Why didn't they use the new Windows 11 logo (four squares, facing the user)?
Perhaps because the prior Windows logo was way more iconic than… four monochromatic squares? (which, mind you, don't have rounded corners)
He made a mistake. This icon is actually used in Windows 11 builds 21343-21390 (yes, these are Windows 11 builds but sans the new UI and branding, and Brandon LeBlanc has also called these builds Windows 11), not 21996 onwards.
@@generixer6250 I was not blaming our noble Nobel friend for the mistake, but rather, the design team at Microsoft!!
Anyway: could you please take or share a screenshot of what this icon looks like in the latest builds of Windows 11?
PS: I still stand by what I said: to me, precious Windows logos (8-10 diagonal, XP-7 flag, 3.x-98 with thick black borders, heck even Windows 1.0's neat actually window like logo) look way more iconic than Windows 11's "four squares" (which, again, do not sport Windows 11's trademark revolutionary rounded corners).
Microsoft's current logo also is four squares -- but alas, at least they're all different colors.
Yay they got back the old folder used in 98! And with a hd remake!
Pretty sure they just copied macOS with the folder icons
I would be surprised if in the recycle bin (full) had the icons of apps you deleted in the bin
Well, apps and files maybe, because apps are not the only things you delete to the recycle bin. I’m not sure if you can delete or uninstall apps in windows. Because on Mac, sure, you can just drag an app to the trash but on Windows I think not
This Logo got Simplified
Some of them are just the front view of the windows 10's side-viewed icons. But they look cool and more modern and so is the windows icon itself.
yuh
Oh god why are all of them suddenly looking at me now
Windows 11 is more refined now, and 22H2 modernised more stuff and brought back drag and drop on the taskbar. It also brought back the folder feature of the start menu like the previous Windows 10 start menu, but more like Android, as the folder contents float with the name at the top.
2:34 on my version of Windows 11 the C:\ drive has the Windows 11 logo
2:35 why the heck did they go out of their way to design a new icon but used the old windows logo
I think they should use two shades of blue with this logo. One brighter and one darker. Still simple but atleast a bit of color!
That old installer icon lasted my entire life up until 11..
yes for me too

The details are gone for sure forever
yeah i think their plan is to move on from that like 2d-icon-but-it's-tilted-in-a-way-that-makes-it-3d type of icon and just making them face forward
"Windows Installer" has been the same icon since Windows XP. They finally changed
I prefer the windows 11 icon's, because it looks *modern* and *cool*

@@fausthanos08 Windows 11 is out of support in 2032 since it takes 10-11 years for Windows versions to be out of support

Is it me or does the Windows 11 folder icon resembles a bit the Windows 95-2000 folder icon
It does, kinda.

2:45 that looks like a mirror xD
As both, a Windows 11 user AND a Windows 10 user, I can confirm that these are 101% accurate to the real icons (no joke)
2:28 Used in builds 21343-21390
* Builds 21277-21390 are Windows 11 builds, only identifying as Windows 10 because the announcement had not been made yet. Brandon LeBlanc confirmed build 21390 (and all builds from co_release, therefore builds 21354 and up) to be Windows 11. It's safe to assume rs_prerelease builds based on Cobalt (21277-21343) are also Windows 11.
