Correction on my part: you can still use the Camera Hub software to control the settings with Nvidia Broadcast, you just need to use the collapsible preview for the video to still be used in the other software!
Don't the settings save to the camera itself though? So, after you adjust it and save, couldn't you just close the software and they would be present in Nvidia broadcast anyway? I'm just speculating, I don't own the camera.
Hey randomfrank I saw you today at the mall in Tilly’s and I wanted to come up to you but was just way to nervous because yk I didn’t wanna interrupt your shopping and all that but I just wanted to tell you that I love your videos and to keep up the good work!
I love that you are the only creator to not only suggest additional software in conjunction with Elgato's, but the software is actually good for what I'm looking for. So many reviewers make the fixed-focus a breaking point for the Facecam, Nvidia Broadcast seems to nullify that. Big thanks!
Now more like $170, still a solid choice. I like not having to mess with the focus, and being able to adjust the image easily (although I use CamooZ, instead of the Elgato software). Interesting decision to leave out any microphone, figuring (correctly, I believe) that anybody buying a "good" webcam is gonna use a dedicated microphone.
I like how with nvidia broadcast you don't even need a green screen. The software is smart enough to just delete your entire background as if you were sitting in front of a green screen.
ty frank for continuing to create the best, most trustworthy tech reviews out there. followed your advice on what to get many times and it's never failed. have a wonderful day!
GREAT review!! I was hoping someone would talk about mixing this with the Nvidia Broadcast software. I currently use it for zoom meetings and wanted to see how well this camera worked on it. And it looks pretty nice!! I might have to pick this up... the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger right now is the price. But I spent close to that much on my logitech cam now... soooo idk.
What does it being a prime fixed lens have to do with everything sort of being in focus all the time? I thought most webcams had fixed lenses and autofocus at the same time
This review coming from a guy that knows his cam's, and im sure owns a few that costs thousands of dollars = A fantastic product for $200, in this inflated priced social communication time we are in. Well done!
Would love to know how it looks with the typical “streamer” colored background. Dark with colored LED lights and such. My biggest problem with the C920 is that it’s poor at picking up a lot of the LED colors correctly
Took a lot for me to get me C920 to look pretty good but this sure does look a lot better. I wonder if all the settings hold up when you put it in OBS. with my C920 I have to use software to load my settings every time I relaunch OBS because Logitech Ghub and Windows Camera and all that like to ignore or override each other.
@@VLEET7 I have that option but camera settings still don't hold up when you restart OBS..this is a known issue with all webcams..it is super annoying. I have found a program that can load cam settings though so I have a button on my Stream Deck to load them. However this new FaceCam saves the settings ON THE WEBCAM hardware..so it would eliminate this issue going forward.
Just got this Camera. Therez been no change in the software to when this video was made. I've been fighting the Camera in low light. Crank it up and there's too much noise. Get the crisp picture and it's way too dark. It's leaving me with no alternative than to change my lighting. My c920 looks way better in the low light, but didn't have the crisp low latency that I can get with the Facecam. If I can just get the lighting corrected.
I just bought this webcam and it looks great with lots of light but I stream in the dark with lots of RGB lights wrapped completely around the border of my ceiling and when the RGB lights are on it makes like moving lines that aren’t really there appear I can’t figure out how to get rid of them and I’ve watched multiple best settings videos.
@randomfrankp I noticed in this video and a few other as well, that there's quite a lot of video stuttering/lag/glitches going on. One reviewer even mentioned the Facecam had occasional 1-3 sec interruptions. What's your take on this?
Not much of a difference tbh. You just lost ability to save settings on the camera, but gained 4k. Although from what I have herd, the 4k adds a lot of delay. Good choice anyways.
I have serious issues with this camera.1. it is shutting off during my streaming. I have to keep plugging it out and in. 2. Each time i use it in obs, i have to fix the settings even though the lighting has not changed. 3. It flickers. 4. There is an issue with sticking also, a lag. I regret buying it.
Awesome vid, although you just convinced me decide on getting the blackmagic with the sigma lens instead. :) Unfortunately, so far - iphone & android cameras are 100X more superior than any webcam in the market. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the Review. The main camera you use for this video in the start. Does that camera work great in low light (your office without light)? Any chance you could do the same review with AverMedia PW513?
Thanks for this video. Question for you, if the artificial bokeh artifcacts don't work for me, what is the simplest to use camera that will give me natural bokeh for streaming a face within 5 feet of the camera?
ok, so i'm looking for something similar to the Meta Portal. About to have a kid and I would like to have a camera connected to my TV that can follow us around... any thoughts?
Would this camera make any difference (vs the standard elgato face cam) for zoom (or google meet or teams) streaming? Most of my live events are held via zoom.
my camera doesn't look like that it looks very staticky and can't see the deal tales of the room , do I need to contact them and try to get a new camera or something
Isn't the Kelvin really mucked up lower the kelvin warmer the image - higher the kelvin colder the image? Tungsten is 2800k and moonlight is about 8000-10000k?
Is there anyway that I can use a single webcam and plug it into a splitter and use it for my son's pc and xbox series x. His PC and xbox is hooked up to the same monitor so Im trying to use a single webcam and hook it up to both devices.
What!!! Im struggling my butt off to get my chromakey that amazing, using the greenscreen, facecam and 2 keylights.... insane!!! how did you get it right so easy.
Randomfrank can you please do a video on the Steelseries Apex Pro TKL? You seem to be using in and I would love to hear why you’d personally choose it over customs.
Does it safe the changes to the camera when you ajust or does it rely on the software everytime the camera is turned off and on again. With the logitech cams, whenever you reboot etc it is back to the default and you have to open the software, change something and only then it goes back to your settings.
Saving the settings is kind of overrated, I now think. The reality is that unless you leave everything on auto (NOT the best idea), you're better off just accepting that lighting conditions will change all day, every day (unless you're in a windowless vault), and it's always best to spend a few seconds tweaking the picture before any session. It gets quick and easy with some practice.

There is an option in the GHUB settings so you can allow other programs to have full control so that won't happen.

Is there a way to tighten the up down motion? It seems like it's way too loose and just flops up or down at the slight tug of the cable.
It would save people a lot of time if you'd pointed out that the Nvidia Broadcasst app blur effect only works on RTX graphics cards.
12:20 Your image starts to stutter there. Why?
Great review man
Camera Hub now has effects using NVIDIA SDKs. It's the bomb. Great info on the ISO and other settings.
Do the adjustments done in the Elgato software get saved to the camera, or do you have to have that software running for the settings to be in effect?
