Is it too Early to Learn the Air Dribble? | Gold to GC #2

  • Ray, our Gold Rocket League player continues his journey to Grand Champ with another session where we potentially learn how to air dribble. Maybe it's a little early to be learning a crazy mechanic like this, and maybe it won't be possible. Mechanics are tough to learn for every rank, especially the lower ranks but I think Ray needs to learn the basics so that he is familiar with them for ranking up. Getting better is a slow process but if I can help him practice good habits, I think we are still able to get to grand champ within the year

GC1 on the Nintendo Switch having never done a single training pack was my best achievement in gaming EVER. now i've decided to sit back, relax a bit, play casual, and re-learn each basic mechanic and make it perfect before I try to push to high GC2 or even SSL if I get serious about ranked again.

I believe this series has the potential to be one of the most watched rocket league series, especially for this struggling to learn and those wanting to learn what’s required to rank up. The problem is your leaving stuff out that you should put in, cause it’s one thing to try to learn from a video on RUclips from someone who has mastered a skill, but learning while you watch someone else learn is ALOT more helpful. I think you need to get footage of him doing the training routines for each skill so others can see someone like them doing it and then get footage of him doing the same training routine after he has learned the skill so they can see the progress and what it can do for them. You can help so many people struggling, me included!

@@NoahHoi depends on what your current rank is, generally your main goal should be to reach gc, then aim for ssl. To get to gc I first mastered the basics like half flips, wave dashes, recoveriesetc. After getting the basic mechanics down only then I start on gamesense, grind out your gamesense as much as possible all the way to gc (it's a MASSIVE shortcut). After gc, if you still want ssl, you should start splitting your gameplay into freeplay and ranked sessions to really focus on mechanics (I personally have a 70-30 split between freeplay and ranked, however other pros like comm like to spend up to 80% of their time on freeplay). After you should just naturally achieve ssl. I personally don't want to go pro, because its too much dedication, but if you want to go pro there are videos on how to do that.

Just to let you know, I didn't know the channel at all, just saw the first video, i instantly subscribed. The idea is insane.
Im a plat2, willing to rank up a lot and I'm writing down the exercices you're doing with him.
Let's go Ray, show us the way, we follow :D

    1. I am enjoying this series and also taking mental notes on how I can get better too. 2. As a D1-D2, I could totally give him a few tips or at least tell you of a few things that I have learned as I worked my way through the most unpredictable rank: Plat.

Cbell! Really, this is tbh the series I need! I’ve been stuck in play for idk how long, actually I was just about to quit the game because I got tired of not seeing progress in my game but this actually made me wanna try again and work for it again, so thanks for doing this!👏🏻🙏🏼

Do you think i should try and make myself worse and then quit for a while after losing muscle memory making me play worse so I can then speed run to gc and try get up higher with little mechanics just to see how high I can get without any mechanics and then try and relearn advanced mechanics but would first relearn the basics of each mechanic I learn for a few days before fully going at it

When I was learning how to airdribble I had trouble with the ceiling. Since my setup was garbage I often hit the ball too high, straight into the ceiling. When going for less hight I could hardly reach the ball before getting close to the ground, therefore I usually hit the ball too hard rather then too soft. I then started training in the quidditch map. The higher ceiling helped me a lot, when practicing the air part of the airdribble. The bonus time in the air increased my rate of approvement when dealing with the flying ball. After I got confident in controlling the ball in the air, I returned to the standard arena. My setup was still pretty bad, but I was able to do "some useful stuff" with the ball even in uncomfortable positions. I feel like prioritizing air control over setup made me less dependent of a good setup and more versatile when going for airdribbles in a game.
