    This has to be one of the best rocket league series on RUclips right now. It’s the perfect mix of entertaining and educational. You explaining these concepts to someone who is actually a lower rank is genius. We get to watch how you train him and how he practices, we get to watch his progression, and you know that what you’re saying makes sense because you are coaching someone in real time. Genius idea for a series from all angles, keep up the good work.

    Ray, this is so good! Even though it can be frustrating, finding yourself failing a drill means that you are pushing yourself at the edges of your current ability. Keep at it because this kind of practice leads to the fastest skill growth!

      100% it is also important to remember that the gains you see when you start training come a lot faster because they are low hanging fruit. You will see the biggest improvements from mastering basic fundamentals. The higher up you get the longer it takes to see the results of your training. Additionally progress is not a consistent upward line, it is a series of peaks and valleys. What is important is that your current start is at a higher state than your start point.

    Hey CBell and Ray! This series is great! I’m still learning a lot of this stuff as well but my “ah ha” moment when learning some dribble basics is that there is two different types of braking in rocket league. If you hit brakes while holding gas it does a soft brake and if you hit brake while NOT holding gas it is a more abrupt heavy brake. Not knowing this made me so frustrated learning dribbles because I started so slow that when I would touch the brake without the gas, my car would almost completely stop.
    So just a tip for anyone reading this really, experiment with brake and gas/brake and see if that helps your dribble control a bit!

    @Chilipotamus Год назад +6

    Towards the end of this video, you were really getting at a point that I feel a lot of players and coaches miss: taking time to let your muscles relax and rejuvenate. Think about it, if you go to the gym and work your arms 5 days in a row, you'll be getting lesser and lesser returns for the work put in because your muscles haven't fully healed. Anecdotally, I've found the same thing happens with me and RL. When I hit those inevitable glass ceilings, I've found that taking a day or two off to play another game is highly beneficial when I return to playing a few days later. The muscle memory has had some time to bake into your hands and neural networks, and the muscles needed for those actions are fresh and ready to go. I know it sounds counter intuitive for the "fastest way to grind rank" mindset but IME, load cycling is something that more serious players need to practice and coaches need to preach.

    • @Matti_Shakes
      @Matti_Shakes Год назад

      I couldn't agree more. It's weird though. I play rocket league just about every day, for (hopefully) a few hours or so. But when life gets busy and I cant play for a few days, when I play again I get this weird feeling like I've improved by somehow NOT playing. And what you're talking about here is the same thing. There are bad habits we all have in this game, and when trying to learn something new, or a fancy mechanic that changes the way we do things we've done the same way for so long, it's a challenge. We will constantly default to the bad habit, even while consciously doing our best to avoid it. But then, you take a break, and that bad habit is suddenly harder to default to than the new habits we were practicing. I love the psychological side of these types of things, and I find it fascinating how easily it correlates to the comparison to physical exercise you made.

    As someone who's going through the same kind of journey, it's really helpeful to see both the failures and successes. And most of all, not just HOW to do something, but how to correct it when you're doing it wrong. I'm definitely going to be powersliding better now!

  • @StrongJoshua

    CBell, I think it might be beneficial to Ray if you started bringing in other Rocket League coaches to give some useful tips. You're doing a great job teaching him and giving him a tailored program but I know personally, two people can say the same thing in their own way and one message sometimes resonates with the student better. Something like a guest appearance every other episode to keep things fresh and give Ray a new perspective could really help, especially if the guest has experience coaching players. Great stuff man!

    Huge shout-out to Ray for being cool with all us nerds watching him struggle and learn. It takes a lot of courage and determination and it only solidifies the fact Ray will 100% be GC. Wishing Ray a speedy wave-dash recovery :)

  • @Freeze-317
    @Freeze-317 Год назад +51

    I personally feel like this is a really good series. I know you’re trying to get him to GC by Christmas, but I feel you’re trying to go to quick. I feel Ray needs to keep practicing the fundamentals like power shots etc. more and focus on fewer things at a time. The reason he was messing up his dribbles is because he’s focusing on way too many things to learn at once.

    • @Official_Solok
      @Official_Solok Год назад +3

      True, but also learning many things at once helps to learn other things faster and more efficiently, sounds like a double edged sword to me.
      Gain more experience, improve overall mechanics, and improve game sense
      however, as you mentioned, because hes being exposed to the possibilities and limits too quickly, hes trying to do too much, overestimating his capabilities which is common during these practices, and get mentally and maybe physically frustrated & exhausted.
      Edit: Im just saying an opposite view from yours, sure short term he will learn slow, long term he is already aware and mechanically good enough to improve further is all im saying.

    • @Freeze-317
      @Freeze-317 Год назад +2

      @@Official_Solok I completely agree that he’ll improve long term. But I just feel that the ability to 1v1 his son by the end of the year is a goal that he just won’t be able to reach.
