What a strange, strange, movie. I love it. It just has this surreal and odd feel to it despite it focusing on these mundane interactions that end up being anything but mundane.
I find this scene so sad. Louis being rejected and dismissed after sharing something he's obviously proud of. If a man sang "People Like Us" to me I know I'd probably fall in love, haha. Not to mention that little performance was adorable ("haven't written this verse quite yet..."). What a good movie...
@@justintime1343 no, just a comparison to the reality of most situations like these. Louis regained his composure and walked away like a gentleman, and arguably even she handled it quite well, silently acknowledging his dejected nature (big ups to the legendary actors, ofc). I don't know if you've had similar experiences, but as someone who's only experience with romance/dating has been like this, I can assure you that there's usually a lot more hostility, dismissal and toxicity involved. It's actually a bit of a hopeful scene to those of us who consider "being friendzoned" a good outcome; the chance to not destroy platonic bonds, and to become better people out of it. I never said it ended happily, just that a situation like this could've been, and IRL usually is, a lot more hurtful.
This is such an amazing film. It is so under appreciated. It was oddly prophetic in some ways.... I couldn't have that kind of sadness in my life.... Lewis the Bear, on the floor, Lewis the Bear, out the door...

Wikipedia says "Heinz 57, Heinz, or Heinz Hound is often used for dogs of uncertain ancestry, in a playful reference to the "57 Varieties" slogan of the H. J. Heinz Company. In some countries, such as Australia, bitsa (or bitzer) is sometimes used, meaning "bits o' this, bits o' that".
My mom says that's her nationality. She has blood from all over Europe (and the bits of Asia and Africa that are nearby). She got that saying from her dad - maybe it was just kind of a popular phrase when Heinz 57 came onto the market? Perhaps people just began saying "Heinz 57" as shorthand for "mixed with everything."
Wanting love, especially to the point where one might start to desire it over freedom as his lyrics stated, is a pretty pathetic idea to many people. A sign of dependency, neediness, etc. I don't agree with it, but I understand where they're coming from 🤷
Ehat abbummer of a sceen. He's a gentleman for not jumping up and saying "Woman I couldn't face this atrocity of a house that looks a damn baby shower exploded all over it, on a regular basis anyhow!"

Agreed. I love this movie more than any other, and this scene has always seemed to be the heart of this film.

When I think of this film, this is the scene I always think of... John Goodman meowing.
He was out of his element.
This is one of my favorite movies. Excellent. Dead Excellent

The Cute Lady always annoyed the hell out of me, especially her actions in this scene.
She missed out on a great guy. Even if he was a little sad. He was real.
6 foot tall and size 12 shoes....
This woman is the 1980's version of Kawaii.
Did anyone catch that he said his dog was a Heinz 57? That had my dyingg

From what he sang, I don't understand what she even found sad
