Chris Farlowe got really great deep bluesy voice. Extremely underrated singer.

A lot of comments and, yes, Alvin and Chris are great. However, I see no comments about the fellow playing the piano that (in my opinion) is the best here.

In 1991 I went to Bogart's Nightclub in Cincinnati, Ohio to see the late, great Johnny Winter. At the end of the night for his final two songs, JW was joined onstage by the late, great Alvin Lee no less. They played I Used To Love Her and then put the crowd into shock by pealing off one of the most incredible performances of Jimi Hendrix's Red House I've ever heard. I stood in disbelief that the good Lord thought I was living right enough to witness two of rock's all-time greats absolutely melt the fucking place that night with Red House, which was appropriate given both had known and been great friends with Jimi Hendrix when he was still alive.

Yeah, England's blues singers are terrible, what were Eric Burdon, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Mick Jagger, Rory Gallagher, Peter Green, John Mayall, Danny Kirwan, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, Micky Moody, David Coverdale, Ian Gillan, Jack Bruce, Rod Stewart, Lee Brilleaux, Peter Frampton, Steve Marriot, Paul Rodgers, Joe Cocker and Van Morrison bothered wasting their time for?

    • @arthurblackhistoric
      @arthurblackhistoric 4 года назад +1

@@HughRogers609 . . Since you asked, I'm gonna take from just the list of the singers you gave me the ones who, although they may be able to sing, just can't sing the Blues. Get ready:
Eric Burdon . . Great soulful singer but no Blues singer. AND I'll hate him till the day I die for recording Spill The Wine Dig That Girl.
Mick Jagger . . Listen to that really garage band quality Blues album they released recently for all the proof you'll need.
John Mayall . . but to be fair he's finally getting it at long last. Only took him 40 years.
Danny Kirwan . . No feel at all ever. To my ears he always sounded like the tone deaf roadie testing the PA, rather than the band's singer.
Steve Winwood . . The very worst version of Stormy Monday ever recorded was by Steve Winwood with Jack Bruce singing with him. The Lordy Lord Lordy Lord verse being the worst Blues vocals ever to come from the throat of mankind.
Jeff Beck . . Doesn't sing enough to make a judgement, but he can't PLAY the Blues and that's for sure. Too busy being too clever by half to have any feel.
Ian Gillan . . Just no!! Too busy showing off his high voice and definitely no feel.
Rod Stewart . . Come on! Even on Beck's so called Blues albums he disappointed in spades. It takes far more than just a gravelly voice to be a Blues singer.
Peter Frampton . . Good rock singer but no Blues singer.
Steve Marriot . . Don't make me laugh! He used to try far too hard to sound soulful to the extent that it was laughable and cringe-worthy at the same time. And I'm begging you not to get me started on his phony southern American scat-rap. I threw that CD out the window of my car!
Joe Cocker . . Definitely a Rock and Soul singer, but not much of a Blues singer. As I said of Rod Stewart it takes more than a gravelly voice . . and a drug/alcohol problem to be a good Blues singer.
Van Morrison . . THE most over rated singer of all time. He's just lucky that the right mover and shaker in the music press declared him to be cool . . and the sheeple all fell in line and thought so too. Exactly the same as they did with Paul Simon.
Those from your list who can sing the Blues:
Robert Plant . . in his own distinctive way.
      Eric Clapton . . eventually.
Gary Moore . . He's Irish not English
Rory Gallagher . . He's Irish not English.
Peter Green . . No one can argue with that.
David Coverdale . . Just scrapes in as a Blues singer. He's good at a few different styles.
Jack Bruce . . He's Scottish not English.
Paul Rodgers . . One of the best white Rock-Soul-Blues singers ever.
The others I haven't listed because I know too little about them.
But if you count the ones who CAN'T sing Blues . . 12 entries, and count the ones who can AND are English . . 5 by my reckoning . . I'm standing by my original comment.
Try and give me a reason for liking Farlowe's embarrassingly pitiful vocals on the video. I'd be interested in your opinion. He was never a singer, just a mate of Keith and Mick. If I was trying out a singer for my band and he did that awful vocal ad lib thing over my guitar solo, I'd have someone get the hook and drag him off stage by the neck!

@@arthurblackhistoric Picking out the Celts from the Saxons, as an argument? As for the other not being able to sing the blues... yeah well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man.

@@HughRogers609 . . Yeah, and I'm not entitled to my opinion if it's not in line with yours, correct?
Picking out the Celts from the Saxons? That's right, now that you point that out. I'm almost pure Celt myself.
It's the English Blues singers like this hopeless idiot that I don't think much of.
I'd like to think that after a long lifetime . . 49 years and counting, after starting to play guitar in 1970 and being a Blues-Rock singer for a few years prior to that . . I'd be qualified to give an opinion worth a damn.
I'm still waiting to read what you think of Chris Farlowe's awful singing on this version of Stormy Monday.

@@arthurblackhistoric Try DAVY KNOWLES. If you still think a white brit boy can't sing (and play) blues, then you should stay in the 70s.
