Vielen Herzlichen Dank nochmals.

    Got it in first try thanks to this guide.
    Without this guide I would never have went over the curbs like it's done here. (I still did not take them fully 'head on' like above because I felt the car got too upset. Probably a setup thing.)
    I actually did not expect to pass because 1) I get a bit nervous in these situations and 2) when I practiced in single player I was right on the limit of the time most of the laps and had always some invalid before I got to seven. At the server, it was a lot easier actually because the track was well rubbered in and the grip was much better than on the practice track. I'm still not fast but just fast enough to make it at least 🙂.

    Man this is awesome, never raced as zolder and in just 30 minutes after watching this, I'm already hitting low 32s and a few mid 31s. Definitely and easier track for me compared to Hungaroring last season where I couldn't keep up the consistency for 7 laps around it. Also thank you for popometer, really helps me understand where I'm going wrong on corners etc.

    Nils, I am on a console so not doing LFM (and I don't have telemetry) but these guides are still massively helpful for me to refine my driving. So far I have improved my PB 0.63 secs but still, I cannot get the BMW to take that first chicane at the speed you do. I am 15kph down at the slowest point or I spin on the exit.

      make sure the wheel in the virtual car is turning the same amount as the one in your hands. usually you achieve that by setting both driver and game to the same degree, which at least needs to match or be greater than what the car has. to not worry at all: set both to 900. (there are some rare wheels that do things differently, but for most cases, this would be the way)

    I must have a different version of ACC. Cutting that much at the second Chicane/S bend immediately invalidates the lap. I've even cut less and still invalidated the lap. Might be able to get away with that in a race, but for the LFM licence test it's a no-no.

    • @SimracingPopometer

    I really have to say I'm impressed by the data driven approach, attention to detail and scholarship of this video. However i don't want to drive a 1:27. I want to get my 1:36 to a predictable 1.32 so I can get the license. isn't there a slower, easier line with less (as Nils put it himself) cognitive load that this kind of video should focus on - failure to be able to accurately execute all this kerb hopping isn't helping and perhaps in his 4000 hours Nil has forgotten this. Of course, I could just be painfully slow :(

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  Год назад

      its probably all of it? :)
      With 1:36 you're apparently just beginning, but there will also be fundamentals that are wrong still.
      You certainly dont have to jump the kerbs as aggressively as I do especially in the first chicane.
      Yet, of course to shave of lap time and on such a narrow track zolder - there're infinite amounts of time stored in using the little track that is available.
      A very typitcal issue when someone is still very slow and can't find a way out, its probably an issue of perspective:
      You are likely stuck in the mindset that the corners are all the challenge - everyone can drive a straight, right?
      The issue is that you will likely always fail the corners in a way, that you enter the straights very slowly and there's just no way for that speed difference to go away again until the end of straight, which means you will lose the majority of lap time on the straights.
      So what do you have to do?
      Stop going all in on the corners, make sure you slow down early enough to easily make them and put all your effort into leaving the corner quick, rather than entering it quick.
      Im fairly sure that if you went for the data comparison, you will find that the time delta increases massively on corner exits and you might even "gain" on corner entry before the car is entirely out of position to maintain speed onto the straight

      yes, that happens a lot in games. our surfaces are much more static than real tracks and our cars cost 0€ to repair.

      @@SimracingPopometer I understand that, but I feel that having such times achievable in the current state of racing sims, somewhat lessens the status of simracers.
      Outsiders, seeing such times, will think that simracing is never a serious contender as RL racing.
      I personally would rather see better track surface grip detailing and obstacle/objects realism to simracing to give simdrivers the randomness of racing. Eg: Marbles, oil, sand, water, car parts from accidents etc.. Better car damage modelling physics also would be nice so that sim racers prioritize not having accidents and finishing the race more.
      I wonder how a RL driver can do a PB hotlap, posting exactly the same time everyday?

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  Год назад +2

      @@winnythekahuna8073
      there are limits to what level of detail you can simulate on a variety of available hardware to keep the game playable. if you want a sim that needs a 10 million € machinery to run, then you'll need a 10m machinery.
      lap time being off by 1% does not exactly invalidate simracing. if anything it shows how good it is despite the many limitations there are.
      the comment section here is certainly too small, for what needs to be said on that, but it's all not just a choice or easy. and again, the times are completely fine if you actually compare same with same. you can't take a random real life gt3 time from a certain year, bop, tire, weather state and put it against the absolute optimal time in a sim with a car that's not even trying to mimic the other one. different power, different weather, different weight, different tire. it would need some proper magic to turn out the same lap time.
      I really disagree that an isolated lap time says anything about the state of realism

      @@SimracingPopometer Interesting view. I honestly just would love to see sim racing development to further add more of the other nuances of RL racing such as the "fear factor" and mechanical preservation to increase the validity of sim racers as real potential RL racing competitors.
      I don't know what genius game developer could employ to add the fear of random track events or mechanical failure and still make a game playable but when I see a lap time that is better than the RL track time in a similar car, I feel that the sim game has failed because those RL lap times would have been scary to achieve or pure good luck on the day.
      I would just love to see sim racing development somehow stimulate and incorporate the emotional rollercoaster racers have with driving fast, so that into the future, using VR, simracing would attract more fans, more online racers and having the RL racers considering the sim lap times as serious times.
      Anyway, I appreciate your work within the community and your opinions.👍

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  Год назад +5

      as for fear factor: I'm fairly sure this wears off in the real car. Else you wouldn't have F1 drivers crash 3 times in eau rouge, because he refuses to lift. Or cars coming together at 250 into a corner. The fear factor comes back after they lose grip, not before. There is no lap time left on the table because of fear.
      The problem with real life racing is that there are MUCH more factors involved that actually make real racing quite a shit experience, over which you have little influence. I would certainly not play a game that tries to make my life miserable. Not everything about real life racing is good and not everything should be taken to the sim, so that we can actually have a better, more equal, more fair experience.
      And then I don't care to be a real life racer. Real life racing is entirely about money. Rarely anyone has the freedom there to race because of talent or whatnot. Its a super expensive hobby bloated up to be TV broadcasted. I do not want that struggle for millions of euros every year. Failing to find the money is a bigger fear than getting injured in a crash. I am very comfortable in the sim. It's a category on its own, and those who want to become real life racers, sure, go ahead, best of luck - but it's a different thing alltogether in every aspect apart from the driving.
      I personally like simracing because you are in charge of a machine, its entirely up to you to control it in every aspect, breathe as one with the machine
      The whole "oh no simracing isnt realistic so i cant watch it"-crowd... I don't care about them. They are living in the past, its futile to try and convince individual people. If sim racing ever wants to be successfull (whatever that means), it must become independent from real life motorsport, because a lot about it is wrong and because it is destined to die in just a few decades.
      Sim racing should not seek to be a feeder series for real life motorsport, it should not seek to be the same and it should not seek to replace it. That's the thrill: being in charge, or battling to be in charge.

    i just dont understand why the barrier to entry is so high for ACC, but in rFactor 2 you can just jump into LFM races. i dont even care if i win, i just want to get in some races. this license test is making me lose my mind.

    • @SimracingPopometer
      @SimracingPopometer  Год назад +1

      I think its save to say that if you cannot pass the license, you would not have fun in the races. You need to have a minimum of control over your car to drive with others around you. If it was for me the license test would be stricter and would involve more than just consecutive laps below a certain threshold time.
      Maybe take the fact that the license test is challenging for you as a hint that you still need time to drive save around others cause you are still struggling with yourself and where to put the car. Not trying to be rude, but its genuinely better to have a good fundament in driving before needing to adapt to other erratically behaving humans.
      If you want, shoot over a replay on discord or record a lap with the popometer.io tool and I can have a look and give a few tips around baiscs if i may
      Rf2 has a lack of players already and the license test would make it worse, so i get why theres no barrier
