    I'm happy I came across your videos. My husband and I are closing our pool company, of 20 years, due to his health. I will be returning to work full-time as the main support. I started and ran a very successful business for 20 years and working for someone else will be very hard. As a former school bus driver and current CDL A holder, I'm seriously looking into a straight truck business. I originally went for my CDL A because I wanted to go over the road
    as a truck driver. I grew up around trucks and I loved going over the road with my grandpa and uncles. When my husband became ill, I couldn't leave for training with a trucking company. When I saw your video, I was so excited because this would be perfect for me! I can't wait to get started!

    Just subscribed dude, great content. Don't work in the trucking industry at all but my dad does and lately I've been binge watching trucking videos heavy. I've found out about myself that I don't mind driving and love seeing new views also doing all that while getting paid for it. But again I only see myself doing that as a OO. I know there's alot of "what ifs" and alot can happen being an OO but I can't see myself working for someone else knowing what I know now and all the money that can be made. I've already made a LLC and studying for my CDL especially before Feb 2022 (when they will make you go to CDL school and pay crazy money for it). One thing I've been stressing about is if I should get a semi or 5500 looking to doing a flatbed as well. Have a family too but willing to sacrifice to achieve a better lifestyle for them. Again I make around 45-50k now a year. It's not bad but I know I can do better and more for my family with a grinding and hustle. I'm in sales right now so joining the trucking industry would be a complete 180 but I'm fine with that. As far as money that's the only thing that Is holding me back from starting right now. Any advice would be great, thank you 🙏

      Hey man thank you so much for the nice comment! In my opinion, every new driver that comes into the industry should drive for another company for atleast 2 years before becoming a O/O. Not only will you learn about the industry, but you'll also get the chance to figure out if you enjoy this line of work and you'll really lower your insurance costs which is HUGE when it comes to being an O/O.
      You CAN become a O/O with no prior driving experience but it is definitely a lot riskier.

    One of the biggest problems with first getting into trucking is the endless ppl telling you about their neighbor or uncle or brother or a guy on RUclips who is making $5000 a week take home or whatever…they raise ppls expectations so out of wack because of course 90% believe this junk. Unrealistic expectations will always mess your head up and cause someone who would otherwise be happy with $1200 to $1600 a week to be disappointed. Where else are you going to make that money without a college education??? Its not impossible and i know many ppl are and some truckers are making more than that but lets face it thats the average and that’s probably working over 55-60 hours a week…but at least there is the potential to make that kind of money listening to your music stopping to rest when you need to without someone barking down your neck. Every job sucks at some point. Eventually you won’t like it.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад

      As a truck driver (driving local/regional and hauling dry van/reefer loads) you can expect about $60K - $75K net after a few years of experience with a good company. As an owner operator, you can easily net $165K or more if you understand finance/business fundamentals and you’re an experienced negotiator. Even if you don’t have that business acumen or negotiation skills, you can hire an experienced, high quality dispatcher (shameless plug of Gill22) and still net the same amount.
      Lots of money to be made in this industry if you actually treat it like a business!

I have felt so happy lately since I have been on vacation from my flying job and have been driving the truck. I feel a joy that I haven't felt in a long time, and I knew all along that trucking would give me this feeling. Idk if you’ll come across this comment but how does one become a dispatcher with no experience

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад +1

      Good question!
      1) Get some training whether it's online or through another dispatch company. Learn the process, the tools, the negotiation process, etc.
      2) Market yourself. Use social media, word of mouth, truck stop advertising, etc. to make it know you're a independent dispatcher looking to work with owner operators. Start with the small companies as they're more likely to work with you. Also, get creative in your marketing.
      3) Start with 1 and then expand to 5-6 owner operators. Trust in your training and just start dispatching for 1 O/O. The best way to learn is by actually doing so start calling brokers from load boards and shippers in your area to find potential loads for that one O/O. You'll have a lot less pressure to perform with just 1 O/O, however, when you get comfortable, expand to 5-6. Any more than that is just too much to handle for one person.
      These are just the basic steps with a little detail for each. I will make a video in the future explaining all the steps in more detail but, for now, I hope this helped!
