      Thank you Gemini! I can do a much better job explaining how to book loads on DAT but since I’m new to making videos, I missed out on a few steps or talked about a few relatively unimportant concepts for too long. I will definitely consider updating this video in the future when I know I can do better!
      Also, it’s so nice to hear your daughter and her friend getting into the business! Part of the reason why I started this channel is to get the younger generation, and people who are my age interested in the transportation industry! There are so many great opportunities here and I’m sure they’ll do great!

      Intermodal dispatching sounds interesting but I’ve never done it. How does that work and where do you usually dispatch from?

    • @beardedonetech
      @beardedonetech Год назад

      @@Gill22 I worked for a company called Evans Delivery. And intermodal is pretty much has to do with all the containers that come in from overseas. Our drivers would go to the rail yards and pick them up from there and make the delivery. Where it differentiates from Dry vans is that the driver is responsible for returning the empty container once the unload is finished. And every steamship line has a different return location, that can vary every day. It's just much more involved.. Which is why I want to get into dry van dispatching, looks much easier. No dealing with empty returns or nothing of that nature you know ? Just negotiating prices and making sure you're one step ahead of your driver's to keep them running.

    Hey bro, Great info! I have been thinking of doing this for some time. Your experience is quite convincing! I want to give it a TRY first but I have some questions.
    Im in So. Cal, I can rent a cargo van; It looks like I can set up an account on the load apps BUT will they require past experience, personal info and or specific requirements?
    I saw in other postings that there are stringent requirements because these companies wont just give their loads to just anyone. It looks like carriers must have certifications/licenses/permits exaggerated insurances, is that correct?
    Im assuming that the regular insurance coverage from the rental company will not suffice?

    Gil, Thanks!!! Great info. i will have to save this and refer back to it a few times! Lots to digest. i have a question...I am trying to decide beteween getting a dry van and a conestoga setup. I have pulled vans and flatbeds. Im hoping to get access to more loads. Am I crazy? Do dispatchers know you can load a conestoga on a loading dock? What say ye? Thanks. (you should offer a pdf guide for purchase with all the video topics and notes, I would easily buy one)

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад

      Conestoga trailers are incredibly versatile, as you already know, but for many people it may just be overkill. Most trucking companies focus on specific industries and will ship specific types of load which will of course determine the equipment they buy. However, if you want versatility in the loads that you carry, then the conestoga setup may be for you.
      I surprisingly haven’t seen many people with that setup on the road and it’s something i’ve also been looking into!

    • @redleader
      @redleader 3 года назад +1

      @@Gill22 I see a hundred a day out here on I-5 running N-S. Seems to be getting more popular. We haul lots of lumber that MUST be tarped. Fancy kiln-dried wood. So a conestoga is SWEET! But I want to have ACCESS to other types of loads for backhaul N-bound outta LA. Thanks for your reply.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад +1

      @@redleader Ahhh i see. Just another tip... for dry van loads the inside of your trailer HAS to be clean and dry so if you’re planning on using a conestoga, I reckon you’ll have to spend some time cleaning up the debris left by lumber or other flatbed loads before you pickup a dry van load.
      I would still recommend it but just something to keep in mind!

      As Salaam Alaykum brother! Here are a few load boards that you should look into:
      Centraldispatch.com
      Carload USA
      Car Hauler Dispatch
      uShip Car Hauling
      Reliable Auto Dispatch
      Car Load Board
      There are many more but these seem to be the biggest.

      All the load boards I have dealt with offer power only loads. You can also register as a carrier with brokers like TQL, CH Robinson, Amazon etc., they also have power only loads.

    Will it be hard to land consistent work on DAT as a brand new owner operator. I’m saving up and hoping to make the jump to buy a truck in the next year or two and just wondering if DAT is good for me. Also not sure what type of truck I’ll be getting at the moment. I’ve been around trucks my whole life and I’ve been a fill in driver at the construction company I work for the past 4 years. I’ve done dump trucks, low boy, and flatbed trailers.

      It might be difficult at the beginning, especially because it’s a low market.

    I want to buy a truck and i want to work under my authority
    So can I find a load with truck only or i need to get trailer as well, and is this cpm for truck and trailer or only for truck actually am little bit confused

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  2 года назад

      Great question!
      1) You CAN find loads with truck only. They're called "Power Only" loads on load boards. You don't NEED a trailer to start picking up loads.
      2) CPM essentially tries to calculate ALL your trucking business expenses on a per mile basis. That includes truck and trailer. If you don't have a trailer, it will include just the truck. It really depends on how detailed the CPM calculator is. Some are very basic, others are very advanced and include a lot of factors.
      I hope that answered your question!

    With your time into this and experience is it worth going in to business for yourself? And if so which route should I take rental or lease to start out? Or buy a brand new truck which only lasts about 300 to 400,000 miles because of the deff system?

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  2 года назад

      Most definitely get into this. I wouldn’t be in this business if there wasn’t a lot of potential in it! And I would recommend leasing over renting.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад

      You can use the "Power Only" option to find loads without a trailer, however, I will warn you that it may be really tough to find and get good rates on these loads not matter what load board you use.

    Which vehicle is the fastest way to get a load: A cargo van (Promaster cargo van), a Sprinter, or a box truck.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  3 года назад +1

      I don’t have much experience with either of those vehicles but just logically speaking, I believe the more space you have the better.
      So, in my opinion, box truck would be the way to go out of all those options since it could do everything a cargo van and Sprinter can do and more!
