Hi, Gill22! Thank you a lot for this video with so useful information! Can you help me - which documents I need as a truck dispatcher to sign them with brokers and with drivers? How to sign those documents via internet?
If you’re using DAT, you might find LockTheLoad helpful. It simplifies tasks like emailing brokers, checking factoring scores, and copying load details, making it easier to manage your loads efficiently
Gill I Iike your video it really helpful to me and other people. My question to you is when you said how do I post my truck did you mean truck company post their trucks.
I don’t have much experience with either of those vehicles but just logically speaking, I believe the more space you have the better. So, in my opinion, box truck would be the way to go out of all those options since it could do everything a cargo van and Sprinter can do and more!
Hello Gill, thank you indeed for putting efforts to make useful videos for trucking, especially for dispatching. I just wanted to say that is it possible for you speak a bit slower because I hunch many non native speakers are watching your videos as well.
I would like to know what will happen when I move from company driver to O/O and I call about one of these loads. Do the brokers have a way of finding out the experience of the driver who contacts them? How difficult will it be for me to get loads as an O/O when all my experience is company?
Most brokers won’t care but some brokers with higher standards and usually higher pay will want to only work with experienced carriers which they can figure out through reviews, age of company, safety score, etc. In most situations you won’t have any issue moving loads with brokers if you can negotiate a rate they are willing to meet.
Thanks Gill22 your advise is very helpful. I am currently researching the market to up a delivery service with my cousin. Any helpful tips will be gladly appreciated.
Hi Gill, i was wondering if the DAT offers loads for containers. We usually work local in Chicago in intermodal and i have seen similar load boards but they don’t offer loads for intermodal
That’s a good question and it really depends on the individual. Do you have prior experience in trucking? Do you have a basic understanding of how to analyze profitability of lanes? Are you comfortable negotiating with multiple brokers every day? Do you understand the impact of seasonal changes on your lanes? Do you have time to deal with vast amounts of paperwork? You don’t have to be good at all of those things, you can just dispatch to yourself by watching my videos or other videos on RUclips but.... it is a LOT of work. In my opinion, working with a great dispatcher that understands your needs is worth the small percentage they charge (anything less than 12% is acceptable imo) and in many cases you’ll make more even after paying a dispatcher their fee. Again, there’s no right or wrong. Try both out and see what you like but imo... I would definitely recommend going with a top tier dispatcher!
With your time into this and experience is it worth going in to business for yourself? And if so which route should I take rental or lease to start out? Or buy a brand new truck which only lasts about 300 to 400,000 miles because of the deff system?
Tnx for the video. I got one question, can we make a scheduled pickup/delivery with some company to avoid this everyday contacts with brokers and searching for the loads and routes? Probably we can, but how often is that in this business, pros and cons?

I want to start but I just scared to make the move because I don’t know what I’m doing - should I rent a truck to start out? I have some money to keep me sustained till I get going
If you’re afraid to make the move it’s most likely because you’re afraid of the uncertainty. You don’t have to search for other carriers. Just wanted to show you that you can use that section to search for carriers, shippers, brokers, etc. If you plan on dispatching, that’s a good place to find cold call clients.
Hey bro, Great info! I have been thinking of doing this for some time. Your experience is quite convincing! I want to give it a TRY first but I have some questions. Im in So. Cal, I can rent a cargo van; It looks like I can set up an account on the load apps BUT will they require past experience, personal info and or specific requirements? I saw in other postings that there are stringent requirements because these companies wont just give their loads to just anyone. It looks like carriers must have certifications/licenses/permits exaggerated insurances, is that correct? Im assuming that the regular insurance coverage from the rental company will not suffice?
Gil, Thanks!!! Great info. i will have to save this and refer back to it a few times! Lots to digest. i have a question...I am trying to decide beteween getting a dry van and a conestoga setup. I have pulled vans and flatbeds. Im hoping to get access to more loads. Am I crazy? Do dispatchers know you can load a conestoga on a loading dock? What say ye? Thanks. (you should offer a pdf guide for purchase with all the video topics and notes, I would easily buy one)
Conestoga trailers are incredibly versatile, as you already know, but for many people it may just be overkill. Most trucking companies focus on specific industries and will ship specific types of load which will of course determine the equipment they buy. However, if you want versatility in the loads that you carry, then the conestoga setup may be for you. I surprisingly haven’t seen many people with that setup on the road and it’s something i’ve also been looking into!
@@Gill22 I see a hundred a day out here on I-5 running N-S. Seems to be getting more popular. We haul lots of lumber that MUST be tarped. Fancy kiln-dried wood. So a conestoga is SWEET! But I want to have ACCESS to other types of loads for backhaul N-bound outta LA. Thanks for your reply.
@@redleader Ahhh i see. Just another tip... for dry van loads the inside of your trailer HAS to be clean and dry so if you’re planning on using a conestoga, I reckon you’ll have to spend some time cleaning up the debris left by lumber or other flatbed loads before you pickup a dry van load. I would still recommend it but just something to keep in mind!
What is a minimum rate i should accept if owning a 26ft straight box truck and market area is kinda average(yellow) ? To make at least 4-6.000$ gross a week of course
@@Gill22 Okay.Thanks..following many dispatchers from USA but can't believe their training programs bcoz m from India and don't know what they actually do in training and their training are quite expensive.

I’ve been around trucks my whole life and I’ve been a fill in driver at the construction company I work for the past 4 years. I’ve done dump trucks, low boy, and flatbed trailers.

Glad it helped!
Good info ....but I am confused on the point of searching similar carriers? Can you explain ?
You don’t have to search for other carriers. Just wanted to show you that you can use that section to search for carriers, shippers, brokers, etc. If you plan on dispatching, that’s a good place to find cold call clients.
Really high rates please teach us?
good video...
Gill22 please make a video on how to negotiate with brokers.
Hey Carlos, I posted a video on how to negotiate with brokers! Click on my channel and you’ll see the video 👌🏽

TrucKING Goat ,wish you were in Canada 🇨🇦

Are you providing online training program for truck dispatcher?
Pls let me know.Wanna start my own dispatcher business in USA.
Hey I’m working on creating a training program but it will take a few months to make. I will keep you updated though if you’re on the email list!
@@Gill22 Okay.Thanks..following many dispatchers from USA but can't believe their training programs bcoz m from India and don't know what they actually do in training and their training are quite expensive.
You can update me on email - kamal.sagit26@Gmail.com
Yup kudos negotiating
Hi! which would you recommend for a dispatcher?
How do you post a power only meaning I have no trailer.
Gill, if I'm running a box truck, how do I get loads round trip?
Will it be hard to land consistent work on DAT as a brand new owner operator. I’m saving up and hoping to make the jump to buy a truck in the next year or two and just wondering if DAT is good for me. Also not sure what type of truck I’ll be getting at the moment. I’ve been around trucks my whole life and I’ve been a fill in driver at the construction company I work for the past 4 years. I’ve done dump trucks, low boy, and flatbed trailers.
It might be difficult at the beginning, especially because it’s a low market.
Here is a video I found that can help you negotiate with brokers

Gill g where to get remote dispatcher job? please guide!
Very helpful video 👍🏾
I’m driving myself do I need to sign myself up as one?
In your opinion is there consistent loads available for 26’ box trucks if you are willing to go where the freight is? Trying to decide if I should start out in trucking with my own box truck or go the cdl corporate driver route for a few years and then buy/lease me a semi. Thanks!
If I had to choose between the two, i would DEFINITELY pick the CDL to Owner Operator route all day.
@@Gill22 Good to know. I appreciate the knowledge you are putting out with your videos.
Hey guys I have my own cargo van and I’m just starting out. Will this load board be helpful for me?
kindly make a video on negotiating power.
Hi Gil, I am looking to get into the trucking industry. I am looking to hire a driver and I will be focused on using a box truck. I have $60,000 saved up for my first years expenses along with a equipment. I am very new into the industry but I am looking to build a business that can be for the most part somewhat passively ran after I get the early hiccups handled. I'd love to hop on a call or exchange emails on any tips you could send my way! Your time will be financially compensated as well.
Feel free to send me an email and I'll do my best to answer all your questions! I would also recommend checking out my latest video as it will kind of help you understand the box truck business a bit better.
Did u start yet? I’m in same boat - I closed my car business because of covid -3 have 59k and want to start doing trucking- wondering if u got started and how’s it going
That music at the end is goated
I'm a new sprinter van company with my own authority. I'm asking for honest truth. Do you recommend using DAT load board for this? I'm based out of Phoenix AZ area. Are there many loads coming out of Phoenix? I'm eager to get working.
DAT power for carrier or brokers, I am a dispatcher looking for loads would DAT Power for OO still be the best option?
LockTheLoad is a handy tool for DAT users. It automates sending emails to brokeras, verifies factoring scores, and simplifies load copying, helping you work faster and manage loads with ease.
Is truckers edge viewable on a laptop?
yes it is. i primarily use load boards on a desktop. i don’t think Truckers Edge would be any different
I've been looking at becoming a broker and taking classes. Just doing some research about the business. So very new to logistics in this area. Are brokers looking for Owner Operators with full equipment, example a dry van including obviosly a truck. Or are the boards for example that say Van or Flatbed providing the trailer for the truck and Bob tailing to pcik up?? Thank You
do you have a link to DAT 30 day free trial?
so you need a federal motor authority number to use this ??
Video about Negotiations tips please
hey i already made one! just look for the video called “how i negotiate load rates with brokers” on my channel
Great video, honestly!
Thank you! I might have to re-make this video and zoom in anytime i’m talking about specific functions. Knowing how to edit now, i could do a lot better job.
@@Gill22 Lol I was speaking in terms of content/info. I'm planning on making a business and have someone drive for me while I dispatch
