So I understand from a finance standpoint of calculating monthly, weekly, daily gross profit. Then calculating your daily weekly or monthly expenses, both fixed and variable. And calculated your cpmo to be something like $1.37. Do you calculate your Freight or load to be at least a $1.37 or more to Now show some semblance breaking even or a prophet. Do I take loads for less just to get to a destination and put gas in my truck. Or do I refuse loads just to make sure at minimum I'm breaking even and or calculate some sort of small profit. Or for instance not accepting anything less than an additional .15 to .20 cents more on average. To make the whole effort worth it. And I'm referring to the first six to 12 months of business. Hopefully after that you'll have established a positive reputation and gained a dedicated route or two. So yes Finance conversations are really important to me. While I consider myself a fairly better than average marketing Savvy person.
You've just earned a sub. I'm by no means a trucker but I currently own 2 tech companies and trying to delve into logistics(that's why I've stumbled into your channel). I'm impressed that there are some young people like you that still have the financial common sense. You are very helpful for other people who doesn't know about personal finance and business. In fact, I was broke for more than 15 years before I got my niche. All you said here is true, I know, I've applied it myself to get my butt out of the gutter. One thing I can add is this: MINDSET - Don't get the money into your head for it's just a tool for success. It's not an end goal and it won't bring you direct happiness. Don't get me wrong, it's cool and all to afford nice things but at the end of the day it's nothing more than a tool to use. So use it wisely for it ain't infinite. And yeah, I still live on my 3x40 container home for I don't need a mansion.
Thank you so much! I’ve really tried to make myself as well rounded as i possibly can and it all came through years and years of consistent work and curiosity. Regarding the last part, you are 100% correct! Unfortunately, for many people, they will never understand that money is just a tool and not the end goal until they go through a significant life experience with money. I’m glad I got my mistakes out of the way early but I’m excited to make plenty more in the future and see what I can learn from them! Excited to have you become part of the logistics community!
You nail it. For a long time I’ve more income than my peers, but I was always broke. It took COVID to bring me to my knees. Now I m rebuilding but learning from the past.
I’ve learned a lot from your videos. I’ll be going to a technical school to get my CDL this fall. My goal is to become O/O after 5 years getting my foot wets with small to medium trucking companies.
excellent goal my friend! first 2 years will be tough as a company driver for ANY company but just stick it out. It will get much much better after those two years and especially after you become O/O. Excited for your future man, keep me updated!
Great video, please make a video about finances about being a lease & or owner operator transitioning from a company driver, who’s goal was always to be an owner operator when starting in the trucking industry.
Jumping into the field this September on the box truck side. Soaking up every piece of valuable information I can get my hands on. I appreciate content like this. You’re channel will always get a watch and a like from me! Box Truck Gang!🤟🏿
@@Gill22 Sure Will! On the flip…. When’s your company gonna take on dispatching for box trucks? And…. Do you know any great dispatching services for the non cdl portion?
Nice channel, it's a fresh modern look from younger generation perspective, me, as a young men - I enjoy listening to you and love this style. I do work as a dispatcher, btw, outside of U.S, If you could make videos with market fluctuations and prices, about seasonality and stuff - will be highly appreciated, might be something essential for you - but will be valuable for your auditory. Respect.
Dreamed of being a trucker all my life... did 15 years in the military (Navy), bought a house and have 4 years now working for the govt at a shipyard (promised my kid she wouldn't have to move schools in high school)... wife died unexpectedly couple years ago, my kid is off to college, thinking about chasing my dream as I'm all alone now. Sell my house would give me over $200k from the equity in it liquid to buy a truck and backup cash with no debt/payments to be required. Is the owner/operator travel the country living in your truck still a viable dream? I'm 37.
Do it, but research honest mechanic shops in the region and areas you plan on trucking too. Also, don't look for anyone to solidify your decision. They'll just plant doubts and fears into you.
Gill, I'm a owner operator box truck driver. I've been doing it for 6 months now. I stayed in the sw region most of the winter because I didn't want to drive in snow. I live in Arizona. Now that winter is almost over, if I'm willing to drive anywhere, what are the most profitable lanes? And should I only do long haul jobs 2-4 day to maximize profit? I use dat and a dispatcher
Hello Edmonds! Glad you enjoyed the video! Currently, we're at full capacity with our owner operators, however, if you've already applied, you will be the first to receive an email/call when a position opens up. Thank you so much for your patience brother!
I love what u do, I lean every day from u any time watch your videos. Can u please give me 5 hot cities or lane going out of Atlanta Georgia that u think to start with God bless.
yes i have! just look through my channel and you will be able to find it. it’s called something along the lines of “how i negotiate load rates with brokers”
New subscriber, do you accept applications for box truck dispatch yet or still just semi? Thanks for the content, you bring a real value to RUclips and are a cut above the rest!
I have a friend that wants to invest in buying a truck and I'll work it and grow it as far as I can take it. What quick tips or advice do you have for a situation like mine?
Yes we do! We’re about to open up new positions in a few weeks but they’re going to get filled quickly. If you would like to work with us, feel free to submit a owner operator application. When the position opens, a service specialist will reach out to you to discuss any way we can help you make more money.
Talk about "How Truck Drivers WILL Always WIN"--such a title will manifest success, not failure. "Why Truck Drivers Fail..." sends a negative message and sends the potential viewer elsewhere. New business owners NEED encouragement about why we WILL SUCCEED, not fail. Overall your channel is good 😊👍
Thank you friend! I will definitely make that as well but I just wanted to make everyone aware of the 3 reasons they will fail since I get so many questions regarding that!
So... would you guys like me to start making finance/investing videos?
Hell yes
Yes please my husband wants to become an owner operator and we don't know how to take out taxes

Hey just send me an email!
What’s Your perspective on owner operators in California?
No real opinion about it really. The regulations are a bit more strict more Cali but nothing too crazy!
Do you include dead head miles in your quotes to shippers
No i don’t and shippers don’t include it in their rates either.
Do you have a discord/telegram group/channel where we could share hot spots and market things and strategies?
That’s a really good idea! I’ll definitely set up a discord group in the future where everyone can share tips.
@@Gill22 That's nice, respect. :) That would be our community, huh
