Adding some Raw Umber to the Phthalo will push it to black. Also a good color to use.

@@gagnonstudio Hi Tim, did you visit San Francisco years ago, think in the late 80s? If so do you remember Juliannas Pizza on Eddy street?
Beautiful, wish you had a vid on how to draw the pine trees.. thank you I appreciate so much the lesson
A million thanks 🙏 I'm the oldest, longest beginner in my art class dear. I'm improving but colour mixing is a BIG weakness 😢. I'm going to subscribe because you actually helped 👍🇦🇺
Thank you!
Thank you for watching Susan!
Lovely painting Tim. Colour combos new too me, but absolutely stunning.
Thanks for another great demo.. Dave M.😎🇦🇺🦘
Thank you Dave. Hope you give the color combo a try!
@@gagnonstudio No worries about that mate. Looking forward to giving it a try.😎🇦🇺🦘
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Please come teach painting classes in Seattle! Our skies look like this frequently
Bonjour de France,c’est vraiment magnifique 🍀🍀🍀
Simply wonderful!!
Abingdon, Virginia would be a wonderful place for a workshop (😉😉)
Historical Quaint and beautiful town with places like the Martha Washington Inn, Barter Theatre, William King Museum of Art, Wine Vineyards, Creeper trail - just to name a few.
For food - The Tavern of Abingdon is out of this world amazing. It is also located in one of the oldest buildings in the area (west of the Blue Ridge)
Thank you so much! I will be visiting Alexandria, VA later on this year, but will keep Abingdon in mind for future events. I appreciate the info, and will definitely look into the area.
MelissaB is right. That'd be a great place...or down the road in Johnson City, Tennessee. Maybe at Freedom Hall or Wing Deer Park or Buffalo Ridge Apartments. Lol
@@gagnonstudio where in alexandria?! Torpedo Factory? I'd like info on that workshop as I live in Alexandria
Bellissimo!!!
Thank you so much!
Amazing💯
Thank you very much!
@@gagnonstudio you're most welcome sir🙏🏾
I don't use the word "color" any longer, I say "pigment" because it is more important to understand the pigment and its effect upon color mixing than the color it actually is once used.
unreal
Yay
Timmer - Ive been watching your videos for like 10 years, man. And you dont seem to be aging...
Question: in the last decade did you happen to find a simple-looking gold ring? And in said time, has said ring become precious to you?
Also, are you a Hide and Seek champion?
hahaha, thank you I appreciate that. The aging thing is most likely due to not having children. At least that is what people tell me. But you are very kind to say so! I may or may not have a precious ring, I don't want to say in case there are orcs lurking .
@@gagnonstudio ...hmm, good call. Those orcs are tricksee! ✌
Me, I call white a colour because lay people do normally, for example, when talking about colours of flags. Everyone would call the Russian flag as colours white, blue, and red. When I buy paint, I would regard all the paints on my list as being colours, when others would more strictly call them hues. No matter. I like using only two huey colours as you describe. I paint quick watercolour portraits and I find that the only two paints I need for the complexion are orange and green. Different combinations of them with different amounts of water give all the lights and shadows. Lips, eyes, and hair need other paints. Crimson or similar usually for the lips and then I might add a few dashes of the crimson into the cheeks, ears, and neck, to give a touch more ruddy colour. Sorry if that is too much information. Best. I like your channel.
some stars or a moon would have taken this to the next level even though it's already good enough
Can you do a similar painting with acrylics?
Really awesome. I am wondering what sort of rhythm leads up to the point that we saw in the video. Do you begin with a simple division of two values: one for the cloud and one for the sky? Or provide yourself with a bunch of random contours initially to get yourself started and then highlight them the way you showed in the video?
Nevermind, I found a video where you demonstrate it
Phthalo Blue is pronounced with a strong A, like "PhthAYlo" ☺
Really appreciate your video (s)! . Just double checking before I give this a go- when your going back over the mid tone ‘cutting out’ more contours with the highlighting ; is this wet on wet or did you let it dry and do it as a new layer ?
Thats often done dry because acrylic dries so quickly
Are you painting wet on wet or do you let the previous layer dry ?
Beautiful! Is the thalo blue the red or green one? Or what brand? Love the night sky painting!
This is Gamblin Pthalo Blue. I prefer the red bias for skies, but you can actually get away with either. Thank you for your question!
@@gagnonstudio what is the red color again. I have a hearing deficiency. It would help if you put color as subtitles
What color did you start as your base color? Did you paint the entire canvas in the dark sky blend first?
I used prussian blue and alizarin crimson. I just painted the dark areas around the cloud first.
@@gagnonstudio Okay I think I understand so there was no base coat. But you started with the dark sky first. I am very new. Thanks.
How not to use black....valuable tip...thanks
Haha, exactly. Black is a great tool, but not for night skies. Thanks for watching!
Is it easier to blend color on a canvas then on a panel.
With oil paint I'd say it's equally as easy. With acrylic I'd say it's easier on a canvas because of the "tooth" you are able to scrub a little more.
Hello, do you have any samples of similar paintings in acrylic?
Thank you.
I have some night sky paintings on www.timgagnon.com in acrylic.
@@gagnonstudio thank you. MY dad was a MARVEL comic artist. My whole family were/are artists.
👍👌👏🇺🇸
So this same effect can be doen with a pink sky? #Timgagnon.
Absolutely. The same approach can be used with any limited palette for clouds. Thank you for posting!
@@gagnonstudio i teallly lean a lot from your video.
Beautiful.. Acrylics or Oil
This is oils. Thank you!
Would be awesome if the colors were shown in text form in the video or the caption, nice video though!
No cerulean? Interesting
Haha not in this one! although its still one of my go to paints.
Thanks Tim. That was great.Don’t understand why titanium white is not considered a colour. What is white if not a colour.?😎🇦🇺🦘
Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
