I don’t have those colors because I couldn’t find them so I’m purchasing them online. I’ve loved art for awhile and sometimes wished I lived in Florence during renaissance period or Italy since the art is so beautiful I live for it.
I love this! It's also great for painting out on-location, in that you don't need to schlep around 47 tubes of paint when going off to some remote location. Just the three colors plus Titanium White does it. Can't get any simpler than that. just subscribed to your channel.
Your video came up on RUclips. I learned how to paint landscapes when you had the DVD classes. I learned so much in that class and thank you. I paint almost everyday. I like the aged look this painting gives.
Thank you Jude, I appreciate you trying a DVD from my website. Hope all is well. Come check out some of the new stuff I have on www.timgagnon.com and thanks for commenting! :)
Thank you for watching. I agree on the color mixing. I'm trying to put out more videos on simple palettes. Using fewer colors simplifies the process, and you can still get great results!
I watched this 2x and decided to do a "paint along exercise" --What did I learn? 3 COLORS. They need to be the RIGHT colors. I used Blick Acrylics and I noticed too late that their naples yellow is muted and less yellow -I tried to correct this by using a more intense yellow -like cadmium and it helped. I learned that while simple is best, -to be sure my values and colors are right before I get started. Still I think this was GREAT because there are TOO many colors available and I' never sure how they mix or work together. Great video!
Thank you, Tim., I subscribed and appreciate you showed the true colors needed for the Old Master's era look. It can be used for non-traditional styles of art as well.
Very beautiful, soothing color and painting! I’m trying this right now with some acrylics, and I know yours is in oil but just wanted to give it a try. I love the depth you created in the water especially, background of trees is also beautiful. Thanks for your videos, they are inspiring!
Thank you for your comments. I did this painting in acrylic as well. I appreciate your kind remarks, let me know if you have any questions when trying this painting and I'd be happy to help!
I too studied under Andy Giles as an UMPI Owl......What a fascinating artist.......Although seem to have lost contact with his work since his retirement. You have created an excellent resource for artists and for that I am thankful!
Wow, it's a small world! I know Andy now lives out by the Grand Tetons, in Idaho. If you ever want to get in touch with him, check out andersongiles.com. He's also on Facebook if you don't have him as a friend on there yet. Thanks for tuning in and for commenting! Great to meet a fellow owl.
Very cool video. Love your uncomplicated explanation on colour mixing. I'm currently working on a limited palette piece with the same colours, except I have added Payne's grey and my initial wash is yellow ochre. Blue tinge in the Payne's grey didn't seem enough and I ended up adding ultramarine blue. Thank you for the upload, I've done lots of swatches and thumbnails for my piece but have yet to start the main canvas (which is quite large) you've helped immensely.
Sometimes you learn more by practice, that's how I've learned most things as well. I learned a lot in college, but so much more on my own. Thanks for commenting!
Beautiful,. Could you please let us know the characteristics of the brush you are using, one of the most important tools to create this lovely painting. Thanks vm❤❤
Very relaxing to watch! Im just starting myself but as they say you may never be the best but you can always be better. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this, it helps A LOT!!
Glad you are beginning your painting journey. You'll learn a lot the more you do, and your style will develop over time. I wish you luck, and thank you for watching!
@@gagnonstudio Thank you for acknowledging my comment. Actually, I'm going to try this technique with pastels to see if using a limited palette plus white will yield similar results. As I do a lot of plein air painting, this would lighten my pastel set significantly. Love your work and videos, keep up the great work.
@@gagnonstudio I wanted to confirm I experimented with your 3 color palette using pastels. It came out really nice! To be truthful I expected a flop, but it was the opposite results. I wanted to send you a photo of it, but I didn't know how to attach it on a comment. Thank you for inspiring me to try something different, as this technique is going to change the look of my pastels. I was struggling with too much chroma in my work and this really tones it down to a more natural realistic feel.
Thank you for watching. I'll try to find the artist. I use a copyright free music database and sometimes there isn't an artist name. I'll see what I can find.
Can’t thank you enough. This is exactly the lesson I needed. Simple. To the point So helpful ✌🏼
Oh, dem colours, yes. Oh dem wild, wild strokes, oh yeah! An’, oh dem blues! Sweet, like dat rivah! Mmhmm!😎
Haha :), thank you!
That is a really nice, clear and bright yellow ochre.
Golden makes great yellow ochre.
I love how simple you make things but still, you have the best results...
Thank you very much! I appreciate you tuning in to the channel!

Wow, thank you! You are very kind :)
Great information on those colors & mixing techniques. That painting is reminiscent of the Hudson River School of paintings. Love it! Thank you!🙏
Thank you! I really like doing these muted palettes sometimes to change it up. Thanks for your comment.

I was about to say a three color pallet??..white is a color so...3 plus white===? I love your work..I'm just having fun!!
haha, yeah, white is debatable. When I was in art school I was told it was a shade, rather than a color so I've kept with that way of describing it.
love the blues tooooooooo
