- Inspired by the storms that roll across the high desert plains of Utah, this oil #painting on canvas features a thunderstorm landscape with dramatic lighting. I take you through the process of how I painted these #clouds realistically, the grass in the foreground, and what advice I could take away from it all.

Thanks for watching! (:
For those of you looking for a longer less sped up version, I am working on something to share soon! Thank you all SO much for 300k subs, I'm speechless and forever grateful for the support. Hope you all are well.
You have so much patients and your videos are relaxing
Chuck you keep growing as an artist...your motivation...determination...drive and desire to keep learning is motivational...all artists need to learn from you...not painting nor composition....brushwork...your drive to keep learning...God bless you Chuck...have been watching you from day one...
And...I enjoy the new format of your videos with voice over...you've even grown as a film producer...editing and so on...I know it also takes alot of time and work to post a video.
You deserve all the support and more. Bless you
At 1:51 lol I was going to watch the video then comment again...but you said it ...I thought it as you said you used one brush...then...you say what's exactly a great learning experience...there's no special brush...its all from the knowledge...time put in and learning from each piece.
The color mixing is just wonderful...mixing color ...and what it appears on canvas from the artist is what makes each artist unique and stand out.
Beautiful greys...Chuck...just great work.
It must feel liberating for you to paint a piece and not be OCD about it...it comes naturally for you now.
I'm wondering why under painting is necessary? I would like to learn to paint, but everyone seems to say something different, and that make's it difficult to know what to use, and how to do it! I have always been artistic but painting is something my father was great at, but he passed away so I can't learn from him!
I have loved watching you paint for quite some time. All your painting are so beautiful. This particular painting has just touched me in away no painting ever has. Maybe because my life has been such a huge storm the last 4 years. I cannot wait to see what you have to come.
Makes me think a tornado is about to spawn in that painting. Well done, as usual.
I like your concept of taking your time. Painting one blade of grass to paint a field. How to eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Love your work and your videos. Good music, but the focus is on the art. When (or if) I grow up, I want to be like you. 🤗
You are so talented and patient I could never have that much patience
@John Swaim thank you for the support
This right here is what makes me try. I'm only just beginning and I have much to learn and far to go but this kind of thing right here, this amazing, beautiful piece of art keeps me going and motivated to learn and improve myself. My goal is to be able to make art that makes someone go, "Wow, that was created by a human? Amazing." Because this right here made me say that. Truly stunningly beautiful.
I follow layne johnson on ig; he also does the most amazing landscapes (this isnt meant to be one of those spammy comments, just sharing the love of landscapes/cloudscapes) also super inspiring
You'll be better off learning watching Bob Ross as Bob Ross doesn't Trace out the picture on the canvas
@@AngryGnome87 Bob was a lovely guy and reached a lot of happy people, but his "art to hang over the couch" was never meant to help others progress to the upper levels of art. It was entertainment, and allowed hobby painters to make a pretty picture for their home by copying him. Most fine artists are required to master drawing first so their painting has a firm foundation. For those of us not superbly gifted like Chuck, it can take years to reach that level, and those years should be looked at as a learning experience, not a chore.
@@lucygray6162 I have to disagree. Bob Ross is a great starting point for learning about perspective and composition. I started out painting like Bob Ross and (thanks to the internet) within a year I was already in Michael James Smith territory, painting my "Lassen Peak Masterpiece" on a little 12x12canvas from a reference photo...lol. My next goal is to paint bigger, at least 18x24 from now on.
Your art is amazing, I can feel the power in the sky. Wonderful work.
Love your video, makes my feel like I was right there watching the storm pass by
I’ve been revisiting a lot of western movies and books over the past month. Watching these videos pairs perfectly with the mood the books create. Really enjoyed this piece.
*Bob Ross* _(tosses in a happy, little cloud)_
*Chuck Black* _(constructs an indignant, massive billow)_
Bob Ross is King, ain't nobody better
@@AngryGnome87 Let's be real. Bob was a nice guy, but we'll never know how good he actually was because they made him "dumb it down" to the absolutely basics to make him accessible to beginners and hobby painters.
@@lucygray6162 stop ruining the vibe man
Wow, This is the perfect asmr for me.
The story and the amazing painting, there is some kind of calm feeling in this video.
And the information about how you paint is very helpful.
Thanks for sharing this amazing art !
Dinosaurs know to write 😮😱😂
@@fegarus2768 yes they do
I know you tried to be deep, but I couldn’t concentrate with your profile photo
It's so beautiful and stunning. I love you. Beautiful and fantastic! #Masoodartgallery
simple yet not simple, so many emotions! Great work Chuck, thanks for the videos and commentary
WOW, can't think of anything else to say! There is something very special about you and want to thank you for your videos of your paintings!!
This is such an incredible painting! The realism almost makes you feel like you’re really there.
"Over time I think we all find our voice" beautiful and just what I needed to hear. Working on a cloud one now and I just repainted the whole thing because I wasn't happy. I'm gonna watch this video hundreds of times. Lol thanks Chuck!
I started to get more serious about painting recently and I love watching these videos for inspiration. Thanks!
It's so beautiful and stunning. I love you. Beautiful and fantastic! #Masoodartgallery
This “Eternal Reign” brought back memories of our living in the Mojave desert. I could smell the sage and creosote, feel the energy in the air, and wait in anticipation for the raindrops fo fall. Love it. Love it. I really enjoy watching and learning from your tutorials. Thank you, Kathy Howard
Glorious.
These types of large thunderstorms dropping rain on the landscape have always been my favorite types of painting. It's absolutely breathtaking
Ditto, thanks Cheyenne!
DEAR LORD, THE Chuck replied to you and you ignored it. Sup Chuck, hows your day

Oh this one is fun...love the sound effects!
Simply stunning. Peaceful
That is breath taking!
Love this you can feel the storm in the air
So so cool. Love that painting. Thank you. Amazing what 1 brush can do. I guess the key is patience and time, not a trick or short cut.
Breathtaking!
Man this is amazing! Love how art provokes so much emotion. This reminds me of the high New Mexico desert during a storm.
Clouds are always so fascinating. It looks like a waterfall cascading out from the clouds and into the earth
Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful, Chuck! The moment I saw this, the Bible verse went through my head: "The heavens declare the glory of God..." and I thought, "The heavens (and Chuck Black) declare the glory of God"! So beautifully done that I can almost smell the fresh moisture in the air when I study it. Blessings!
Yes of course...Creator is most Glorious than any creation... thank you.
Oh heck yeah. This is gorgous
Wow 😳
WOW!
Insane!!! Can't close my mouth!
It's so beautiful and stunning. I love you. Beautiful and fantastic! #Masoodartgallery
Stunning!
Powerful!
The dimension on those clouds --- amazing!!
Truly inspiring. And beautiful.
Your patience is incredible.
Absolutely breathtaking. That lower left section of the sky is just.... amazing. And the way you have the light hit the cloud and cast a shadow. It’s just stunning. I hope one day my paintings can make someone catch their breath like this one did!
My in-laws love southern Utah, they go every year. I haven't been there yet, but this has inspired me to do so. Nothing shows the power of nature like a storm.
I love your work Chuck and you are helping me to overcome the most viscious artist block that I have ever had to deal with......Thank you my friend your work is truly beautiful
Stunningly beautiful!
It's so calming watching these videos
The sky and particularly clouds are a never ending inspiration. This painting really captures the feel and power of big sky storms! I liked the sound effects too.
Chuck, what a great painting. So different from most of your work in acrylics.... and I love it (love the acrylics too). I truly appreciate (I believe I have mentioned that before) the way you describe the process of creating a painting in a very uncomplicated way. No fat over lean dogma, no complex geometric designs, and/or technical lessons about tones and values. Thank you for that.
Thank you for the reminder to have patience and know that it will take time to get the clouds to look decent. Painting my first storm cloud piece now.
Love it!
Love all of chucks work! Truly amazing
Love this piece! I love storm clouds!
Your most beautiful painting so far
Incredible
What a great way to get inspired. Art meets nature. Great lifestyle!
Wow. want to run and hide in wait until the storm blows over. liked the subtle background music to tie all together visually. your paintings are so meticulous and beautiful.
Oil paints are so nice to work with!
This is beautiful, I love seeing storms rolling over the land, nature awing us with her majesty.
Absolutely stunning! I love it. Thank you
I love clouds personally and love seeing painting when nearly the whole Canvas is to do with the dramatic cloud scene.. love your painting here!
This scene reminds me so much of storms I used to watch at home across the prairie. It's like you took an image from my memory and pit it on your canvas. That's how much it reminds me of my youth. Amazingly beautiful picture Chuck!!!
Absolutely beautiful Chuck... Keep up the awesome work!
God bless.
Beautiful. Love it.
Such a great piece! I love storm clouds
Wow!!! Very impressive!
Amazing, beauty within the power and strength of a storm
Stunning
This is beautiful wow!
Breathtaking ❤
Love everything you do. Thanks for showing your work.
That's incredible; bravo !
Very nicely done - and with one brush - just goes to show it's you the artist capturing the picture and not a specialty brush. I like to look at the skies and atmosphere that we have in UT as God painting a picture for us all to behold. I love it after the rain too with some sunset putting pastels on the cumulus nimbus. You really did this one justice. Thanks for sharing Chuck.
Thank you Lilia, I appreciate that. I'm glad you think so!! 🧡🧡🧡
Oh my goodness.... this is incredible!!! I can't believe how realistic you got the clouds to look, and the shadows in and on everything. This whole piece simple took my breath away. Thank you so much for inspiring me Chuck!
Thank you Ruth, and my pleasure!! 🧡🧡
Chuck, Thank you so much for sharing this painting experience. Your painting is breathtaking! I appreciate all of the tutorials you give from your heart.
Thanks Gina, the pleasure is all mine.
I love to see these pieces from your trip to Utah. We do have a beautiful landscape. You capture it so perfectly. I am always in awe of your talent.❤️
Absolutely fantastic!!!!!!! Love your work. You are amoung the best out there!
masterpiece!
Beautiful work Chuck! Thanks for sharing!
Chuck, I always look forward to your paintings. Thank you for this beautiful work.
As an artist, whenever I see a painting that deceive me into believing the painting is real, that is when they have done their task.
Phenomenal work, just like the great masters, truly magnificent, and sublime.
Magnificent painting. So realistic. Awesome!
This whole piece just blew my mind
I'm confident I can draw/paint anything, except clouds! I have always struggled witb clouds. The issue comes in when I try to paint a cloud from a reference. It's a nightmare, but if you just randomly dump paint on and use certain brushes you can make really nice, super real looking freestyle clouds.
Beautiful painting. Love the plein air adventure!
By far, my favorite cloud painting. Well done!
Awesome!!!
This is insane level of passions , wow
So great!!!!!!
you have continuity!!!! Its growth...❤
That’s just so beautiful ❤️
Fantastic!
