I'm wondering why under painting is necessary? I would like to learn to paint, but everyone seems to say something different, and that make's it difficult to know what to use, and how to do it! I have always been artistic but painting is something my father was great at, but he passed away so I can't learn from him!
I have loved watching you paint for quite some time. All your painting are so beautiful. This particular painting has just touched me in away no painting ever has. Maybe because my life has been such a huge storm the last 4 years. I cannot wait to see what you have to come.
This right here is what makes me try. I'm only just beginning and I have much to learn and far to go but this kind of thing right here, this amazing, beautiful piece of art keeps me going and motivated to learn and improve myself. @@AngryGnome87 Bob was a lovely guy and reached a lot of happy people, but his "art to hang over the couch" was never meant to help others progress to the upper levels of art. Thank you for your feedback about how you focus on 1 area at a time and give yourself the needed time. This really helps me to know how to keep going and get what I want! You are a real blessing!
Hey Chuck! I, too, have always been awestruck by stormy moody skies. Thanks for your great new video! It's nice that we, your fans, get to reap benefits from your recent outdoor excursion.
That's probably how the masters of old created their paintings. They couldn't afford to run out and buy a new brush all the time. Good job on this painting. I could really feel it.
I have taken away your advice on painting a section at a time and saw how you did that. The piece is phenomenal and expresses so many times what I’ve observed in storms. The idea of taking a lengthy time to paint it helps me to settle down and not get stressed about trying to get it done.
I'm super happy to hear that Judy! And I appreciate all of that very much. Thank you. You are one of my print winners this week, send me an email if you would with your choice and an address. Congrats!

Chuck, what a great painting. So different from most of your work in acrylics.... and I love it (love the acrylics too). No fat over lean dogma, no complex geometric designs, and/or technical lessons about tones and values. Thank you for that.
This is my new absolute favorite painting!! I could stare in awe of its beauty for hours at a time. This painting particularly touches me because I fell in love with the southwest after a vacation, then finally lived there after 15 years. I've now moved elsewhere but I feel myself in this painting. Your style is intriguing and very detailed. Storms have always been fascinating to watch while they develop and change. They show God's glory when the Master artist gives us a moving tapestry of his creation every day.
Very nicely done - and with one brush - just goes to show it's you the artist capturing the picture and not a specialty brush. Hi Chuck! I have always enjoyed watching videos on how to paint, especially Bob Ross, but there’s something so realistic about your attention to detail that captivated the audience. Your attention to lighting and shadows brings the picture to life and makes one feel like they can walk right in! I painted your mountain scene with the cabin and the bear for my mom one year, and she loved it! Of course, it didn’t have near as much detail as yours, but by looking at how you paint I’ve been able to learn so many techniques! As always, you are awe inspiring. You have truly mastered the gift God has given you! Truly and absolutely beautiful. As always, your work has made me feel like I am there and that I am seeing exactly what you have seen. Thank you for again sharing your gift with us!
I am always inspired to paint whenever I view these videos. I'm still in the process of trying to "figure"it all out, but in the meanwhile, this keeps me motivated in my seek!
Nice to hear the term patience used in describing painting. Extremely important if you want to become an artist. Its patience that will keep one on the journey.
Excellent videos and advice , thanx Chuck. Hwyl from Wales.
Thank you for doing this amazing painting. It stirs memories from of my childhold watching thunderstorms roll in.
I can feel the rain. Appreciate the video as it makes me feel even more connected.
Such an awe inspiring painting as usual. I so wish I was 40 instead of 70 so that I could learn to paint at least half as well as you do. Brings back memories of living on the farm with a thunderstorm brewing. Thank you so much for all of the inspiration that you give us.
Oh my goodness.... this is incredible!!! I can't believe how realistic you got the clouds to look, and the shadows in and on everything. This whole piece simple took my breath away. Thank you so much for inspiring me Chuck!
Thank you Ruth, and my pleasure!! 🧡🧡
My in-laws love southern Utah, they go every year. I haven't been there yet, but this has inspired me to do so. Nothing shows the power of nature like a storm.
Blummin fabulous!! It draws me right into the painting, another great painting, well....no change there then!
I’ve been painting since about age 7, and I’m amazed by what I’ve learned from your videos! Thanks, Chuck!😃
I loved reading this and thank you so much for all the great support Cassidy. It really means a ton to me!!! That is awesome. You are most welcome
Another great piece! The depth of the clouds is really nice.
Hi Chuck, I have been so motivated with watching you paint. I've learned a great deal with your talking the way through your paintings. Clouds are always a challenge and your handling of the storm clouds is amazing! Thank you for keeping us so involved in your work.
Just beautiful! I have also always been captivated by storms. I paint with acrylics and want to try this🎁 Thank you for sharing your talent👌
Congratulations. It turned out strong & has the great timeless quality, capturing the force of nature from you.
I love clouds personally and love seeing painting when nearly the whole Canvas is to do with the dramatic cloud scene.. love your painting here!
Oil paints are so nice to work with!
Such an atmospheric painting and very emotive. I love hearing about your process and watching the 'whole' emerge. I think the light in this painting is spectacular. The birth of a vista into which you cannot help but be drawn.
Your cloud work is so meticulous and always impressive. Absolutely incredible finished product.
I absolutely love your artwork Chuck and the stories that you share about them
