Glad I've found this video, just begun restoring exactly the same kind lol even had the same issue removing the end caps they did not want to budge. This is my first attempt at doing something of this sort wish me luck
I can't believe I found this video with a grinder almost identical to the one I'm restoring. Mines a 1984 "Buffalo Tools" model B-6CB, and I'm telling you the inside is identical - they probably were built in the same factory as mine says "made in Taiwan". Three things I found "wrong" with mine: No capacitor was installed, so you have to hand spin it to start up, the aluminum switch you see at 11:47 was bent the wrong way, and the bearings were stuck on the shaft (all other videos I've seen, they remain stuck in the housing as yours did).
@@snakepliskin4297 I've since seen videos with it both ways, but I can see a benefit to installing them in the housing vs hammered on the shaft. The shaft has some play in it, and if they're in the housing it's much easier to snug it up the way you'd like. That said, I've since repaired my grinder and left them on the shaft and it's been fine.
Yeah I don't think there were any grinders like this exported from China in the 1980s. Taiwan quality is and was much better I doubt the China made tools will last as well.
I have almost that same grinder from the same era, except mine was a USA model wired for 120 volts and 60hz. I had to replace the broken push-pull switch and I did a gray re-paint over the original blue. It has the original bearings and is still running strong.
Awesome job looks beautiful that's the first time I've ever seen a screw on holder for the buffing wheel on my bench grinder I couldn't replace the sticker because it was so badly tore up couldn't see what brand it was so there's no way I can order one but that looks nice with a brand new sticker on it awesome job
This almost identical to one i picked up today for 10 bucks at a garage sale. It is Sharp model SE 327B. It is also Taiwan and it's missing a screen on the wire wheel left side. Will watch with interest what you do with this one. Zero info on the net about mine , also.
looks like a "Mark 1" brand - I have one a LOT like that except its a model B-309 - 110V 1/2hp. I got it cheap because the bearings are about shot. common with cheap grinders where the metal bits get flung everywhere and end up in the bearings. I'm planning to get some good double sealed ABEC 3 rated bearings. I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out!
No idea, usually the bearings has a number on the side, that will tell you what size the bearing is, and you will probably find new bearings at a local engineering company, that is where I got the for the grinder bearings.
@@AJRestorationyour welcome, I'm 15 but I have plans of restoring as soon as I get a job. To be honest you your a lot more professional than other channels but too bad you don't have all the tools you need like a lathe or milling machine
You won't regret restoring as a hobby, it never gets old, and there is always something to restore! Thank you for the compliments. And yeah I will have them lathes and milling machines. I will probably find one to restore sometime in the future. L
@@AJRestoration that's great and your welcome, hope you find what you need you should check ebay or Amazon but usually Amazon doesn't have that kind of equipment
I need that very same switch push and pull. But I could not find one anywhere. Mind was busted , but could not find out who makes the grinder. It also is vintage and from taiwan also. Any suggestion on where to get one...............Thanks .Larry
I mounted a steel single electriclal box cover plate on mine and replaced the push-pull with a toggle switch. I believe that 40 year old switch is made of that rare material called "unobtainium".
Nicely done, the grinder looks great. Im restoring one that is very similar but it is missing the capacitor, would you be able to share the specifications or where you got it?
Hi. Beautiful job! I took mine apart to install new bearings. The end caps came off alright but the fan was loose on the shaft and just slides back and forth. I assume that it's a press fit and if so, I'm not sure how it became loose. Can you tell me if indeed the fan presses on? Thanks.
Just subscribed yesterday. This is a bit different than the one you did most recently in that it has a centrifugal start assist instead of a capacitor. I am having mine disconnected and brought into my indoor shop to start my rebuild. I am pretty sure I am going to have questions once I open it up....
@@AJRestoration Thanks! Great stuff! I will also try to apply it on the silver/chrome stickers instead of aluminum for my makita newer tools. I will also try the aluminum as you did. Many thanks again!
Question, what is d size of d capacitor? I bought a grinder n d swap meet with out testing, when I got home, it's not working, I brought it to the repair shop, capacitor s missing and will charge me labor $40, so I tried to see if I can do it myself.
I will have to go see what capacitor is in there. You can do it yourself but the size of the capacitor does matter. I think it was something close to 16uf.

I have begun restoring an old b&d bench grinder .. I think it has a bad starting relay 120v6a .. this part is impossible to find , can I substitute a starting capacitor for the relay?
Damn that's a lot of parts I redid my bench grinder and there was half as many as parts as on that one you got your work cut out on you for that one that's for damn sure I would have to write a number of them parts just to remember where they went and how they went on some job though

It's interesting you mentioned that cuz I just tore apart an old craft grinder circa 1980 and both bearings were stuck on the shaft.

Thank you for the comment. We had a local printing company print our own design for this grinder.

You should be able to do this with a laser printer. They are able to print on glossy surfaces.

Is it worth buying old stuff and restoring. Or just buying brand new
For me I like restoring, so I like old stuff, for the average person buying new or used is better. Unless you like restoring things.
Mine is similar and is smooth and I paid USD $ 3.00.
Should have a cover underneath for the electrics.
I did make one, I just forgot to put it in the video. Silly me, Thank you for pointing that out though!

Всё классно сделали кроме одного, подшипники запресовывают по внешней обойме.
Спасибо, я не уверен, но думаю, что так и должно быть?
1980s is vintage? I remember a lot of junk being made in the 80s
Anything older than 25 years is considered ''vintage''
Tools from the 1980s were mostly quite good, cars from the 1980s were mostly crap.
When pressing bearings try to press on the side that is being fitted. Don’t press through the balls.
Thank you for the tip.
Makes sense, I'll do that next time I have to press in bearings. Thank you for your guidance!
Why don,t the type made in taiwan.?
My apologies, but I don't think I understand the question.
