    I really do think this is awesome ! Wu Shu along with all the other numerous styles of Chinese martial arts are China's national treasures .

    • @shane4371
      @shane4371 4 года назад +1

      Wushu is not a martial art, it's a performance sport akin to gymnastics and ice skating.

    • @高宇中
      @高宇中 4 года назад +7

      Shane Wushu is the term for Chinese martial arts.

    • @shane4371
      @shane4371 4 года назад

      @@高宇中 Despite wushu translating to Military or martial art, contemporary wushu is just gymnastics with martial accents added in. The term is really only ever used by schools that teach the performance art. It shouldn't be confused with traditional Chinese martial arts despite the CCP insisting otherwise.

    • @高宇中
      @高宇中 4 года назад +7

      Shane You’re right, the term is only used by schools for the performance or form, sometimes, however, including Sanda. That’s because gung fu, after the term was learned in the West, became widely known as the term for Chinese martial arts. Technically speaking, however, gung fu means self-growth and wushu is the proper term for Chinese martial arts. This has nothing to do with the CCP, this is literally just he definition of it.

    Sometimes I wallow in pity and disgust at what the world has become. But then I see what the young people are doing and I perk up for a shining moment knowing there is some hope after all. Jaded Gen X'ers like me look at the youth and call them shiftless. I look at the youth and I see people who are testing the limits and redefining them. If Gen X and the Boomers haven't totally f**** up the planet and we survive, then I think we will have an amazing new world to look forward to. Thanks to the youth.

      Generations upon generations before you and us all together have been fucking up the planet and each other, part of the human condition and challenge to become better as a species. Not solely anyone's fault by any means, and we will continue to survive as long as the planet still allows us to live off her back.

      @@matthieuschmitter6676 Well, it's good that YOU did none of those things (if that's even true, after all you are just some rando in the comments section) but guess what...the world is still fucked up. Don't think young people are to blame for that. So why don't boomers use their "wisdom" and "intelligence" to fix this shitty country? Get people some healthcare, put white collar criminals behind bars and not just a slap on the wrist? Admit global warming is caused by human behavior and then do something about it?
      Also, I've seen footage of the gold metal-winning gymnastics from the 1950s. It's almost laughable compared to what people are doing now. So

    As a martial art it's nonsense but for general fitness it's incredible. I wish I had started learning this as a kid. Don't get me wrong I have lifted weights and made sure to include plenty of bodyweight exercises in my general routines, but this art obviously develops an incredible level of all over strength and flexibility.

    • @bluehippofilms
      @bluehippofilms  4 года назад +1

      Competitive Wushu is divided up into forms, taolu, and full-contact fighting,
      sanda. This video is of top-level taolu athletes who train for forms, not for sport fighting.
      However, if you want sport fighting, sanda fighters are extremely good at what they do. Sanda and Muay Thai have a huge back and forth rivalry. Sanda fighters who cross over to MMA have done quite well, routinely breaking top 15, and some even becoming MMA champions. You've probably heard of Former Strikeforce Champion Cung Le, who broke Frank Shamrock's arm with repeated sanda kicks for his title belt win, and current UFC Champion Zhang Weili who won her championship belt with a stunning 42-second TKO.
      As for people getting beat up. You can look up any style and see self-proclaimed masters/wannabe fighters getting beat up. You might see more of those videos because China has 1.4 billion people, so you get proportionately more idiots than other martial arts who have less people practicing it. To give you an idea of how many people that is, just think, if only 15% of China's population did wushu, they would outnumber the total adults (200 million) in the entire US.
      You also have to think about what you're comparing when you say hand-to-hand combat. All sport fighting has specific rules, and the fighters who train and practice for those rulesets and styles are the ones who usually do well. If you put a boxer in an MMA match he'll lose. Similarly, a MMA guy in a boxing match or a TKD match would lose.
