- In today's world of advanced technology, the Amish population's desire to turn away from modern conveniences remains fascinating. More than just their technology gets held over from the past, though, which becomes apparent when you look at the rules Amish women must follow. Due in large part to their strict interpretation of the Bible, rules for Amish women may seem antiquated to outsiders. For instance, women must be submissive to their husbands, and need to wear plain clothes that cover almost everything. Of course, it's not only women affected by the severe rules in the Amish community. Other practices among the Amish, including shunning members, lack gender exclusivity. Amish teens get a chance to experience life without these rules by going through Rumspringa, however, which lets them see what the modern world can offer. But their everyday life remains very restrictive, especially if they're women.

This guy who is doing this Documentary hasn't a clue about Amish people. I won't be back on this channel as it's degrading Amish. I was born in Australia and take my hat off to them for their industrious life style. They teach their children respect.

Amish community the people do not follow the Bible. They do what the preachers and the bishop want them to do.
Amish have fewer conveniences, but they also have fewer problems that modern conveniences entail. Such as exercise, or social media. To name a couple. Not sure if I would want to be so religious, but I would have no problem living simply, on a beautiful farm somewhere, in a close knit community.

I grew up on a farm about 6 miles from an Amish settlement. They are very good, hard working people. To say the Amish practice birth control is wrong. Where I lived there was a road that ran down to a lake. The Amish teenagers would park their horse and buggies down there and do what every other kid in America does. Make out.
Amish marriages are for a husband and and a wife to procreate children. Lots of them. It's easy to we some of these Amish have 10-12 kids. So if you are married in an Amish community you are expected to have children. Men grow their beards after they get married They rarely go to the doctor for anything unless it's something that really needs attention. They don't carry insurance and pay almost everything in cash including hospital bills.
The women are usually buried in their wedding dress when they pass on. They make the dresses themselves. There has been problems with certain sects that marriages are sometimes arraigned and yes, some marry their cousins. It's a tragic even because their children often are born with cretinism. Those traits unfortunately are carried on down the line.
The short of it, The Amish act just like everyone else except for some of the rules and creature comforts that to them who have lived Amish most of their lives so they are used to it.
Liked but you should think of a more honest video title. Maybe something as simple as courtship and sex among the Amish.

When America began, it was to here that people came to have a greater freedom to worship apart from State only recognized devotion, or other strict social conventions interpreted as denunciation or outright oppressive.
The freedom to express your faith is a major tenet in American thought. I like this, very much. Religion, in my opinion,
tends to be an artifact or phenomenon of a contemporary cultural environment. So, not surprisingly, it can become seen as 'outdated' by many, - as the world around them changes. I like the Amish, as well as others who want to hold to an idea of 'family'.
I'm so totally contaminated though, now within this crazy world I think I'd suffer culture-shock or something.
I just worry about group's who feel perhaps too strongly obligated to hold to a way of life which may-be at some later time, no longer accepted by another future dominating governmental body. But it kinda feels like my own idea of a genuine meaning of 'values'; just when might a value seen as any longer practical or realistic,
viable or even lawful ? - if change comes, what happens to meaning, - and when then is a value then, - no longer a 'value' ? I don't know. Freedom 😐 - Jesus Christ died for it. I'll never do less.

Great job on an often Icky subject. It's so easy to idealize Amish life but OMG their problems and unhealthy ways. Sounds like they need to hire some armies of carefully screened "English" people to hold sex ed classes. It was miserable for me growing up aware that something called sex was out there, with constant cultural snickering about it and nobody to explain it to me.
