    Dude you need more views. People need to hear this. The young generation needs to hear this. We as a society are in such an autopilot mode that the conditioning gets stronger in young minds

      well I'm lucky that I watched this video/knew about these when I'm this young, being only 14. The environment around me is crazy with all the social conditioning, if you know you know. It's taking a lot of work for me to make it more optimal and to actually not hate how suboptimal and meaningless it is especially being in school.

    Hey Justin,
    You made some very interesting and insightful points. If you are interested in hearing another perspective on the concept of the futility of life, then I suggest reading the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. Regardless of religious alignment, this book lays out many of the thoughts you are expressing in a fascinating and insightful way :)

    Your opening statements resonate with me. It's a bit why I have a negative view on bodybuilders that eat 6-10k calories a day, but don't really bring much value to society. On the other hand, these "nerd/geek" types in STEM fields are eating a fraction of those calories, but their output is substantially more valuable to the advancement of mankind.

    • @bp1795
      @bp1795 2 года назад +19

      I don’t think he meant actual physical food calories. He meant it metaphorically as if there were an input of daily willpower and the output what you do with that willpower i.e. not burning the “calories” on useless activities. If there is no real meaning to anything, then bodybuilders are actually using their mental calories pretty effectively for a cause that is difficult and provides them with satisfaction and pride. Nothing wrong with bodybuilding lol

      Damn, what you have against people trying their best to have a better body and a better life?

    • @paulewannacrackr
      @paulewannacrackr 2 года назад +6

      @@bp1795 Ah, I see. I work in the sciences, so when I hear "calories", I immediately resort to thermodynamics. Bodybuilding is fine to an extent - bodybuilders will be the first to tell you what's wrong lol. I was trying to highlight the extreme end of the practice which I thought was clear with the "6-10k calories" reference. There are obvious metabolic benefits to muscle mass, but when does it become excess? Not to mention those who jeopardize their health in pursuit of this. Also, not sure I follow you on that logic there - if there is no real meaning to anything, then doing nothing would be just as valid as doing anything else.

    • @paulewannacrackr
      @paulewannacrackr 2 года назад +5

      @@sr.frogdo1924 Was referring to those who partake in the practice at the highest level - not your typical gym casual. In an industry laden with issues (drugs, body dysmorphia, unhealthy dieting, among others), I wouldn't exactly consider that the recipe to a "better body and a better life".
      But my point was moreso with bodybuilding philosophy that echoes the sentiments on purposeless in this video. i.e. - bigger/more muscle is always better and you can never have enough. If I'm this excessively muscular person, is devoting more time/energy/resources for the sake of putting on a few more pounds of muscle truly a productive use of time?
