For everybody here who says these birds are fighting - they're not. I have two Black Headed Caiques (males) and I see similar behaviour multiple times every day. This is how Caiques play. From my own experience I can see here from the behaviour and the noises they are making these are bonded birds who trust eachother. Believe me, if they were fighting for real there would be a lot more noise and a lot more blood.
Biggest misconception about these birds is they fight with each other. They don't fight, they play unlike most other birds. You play with them like you would a dog :) They are like flying dogs. Play fighting is how they play. Not to say they aren't known for actually fighting, but only if raised as a loner. They are known to brutally kill mates you get them if raised alone and they were given a mate too late in life.
The smaller one is letting the orange headed have his way because he doesnt want to fight so he trys to get out of the way of the other. I dont like the vibe the smaller one should have to be in a cage with the Bully, sortd like torture
wingsonmyback1 owner said they each have their own cage. They flew in another bird's cage (that bird was not home) & started playing, then flew out & onto the blinds. They have free roam in the house, plenty of opportunities to get away from each other, & not cage mates.
These birds are playing. They are Caiques. The wrestle like this. This is what is unique about Caiques. For this reason, Caiques generally don’t get along with other birds because the other birds don’t know how to hop and wrestle like Caiques. Take a look at when the two Caiques has locked beaks and shaking their necks. That is a bonding act. These two are buddies. It’s doesn’t mean that buddies won’t have a disagreement once in a like like people. But they make up because they need each other’s company. You have beautiful birds.
Get one they’re funny mine knows when I’m sad and will cuddle under my chin she’s not even a year old and I potty trained her (still in training but pretty much understood in two days)
@@gabbygabby6910 when you see your bird is about to poop, take it to where you want it to poop on its own (like it's cage) and say poop (or go potty or whatever you want the command to be). If your bird poops after a few seconds, reward him with a treat they love (my lovebird loves millet for instance. Just 1 or 2 bites is enough). You can also take your bird to go poop every 15-20 minutes, as lovebirds tend to poop in those intervals (cockatiels should be similar). Again, just see if he needs to go, say the command and reward if something happens. If you want to learn more about training your birds, check out the channel birdtricks. They are amazing!
I have a caique and senegal they share a big flight room and are buddies since they met, but it can change in time. Thats why i am careful since these 2 species can be very aggressive towards other birds and even to their own species.
they are playing, if they were trying to "kill each other" they'd be shrieking even hissing, tails would be constantly flared, their feathers would be ruffled/fluffed to intimidate the other by making themselves look bigger etc... & they wouldnt be feeding each other @ 1:58-2:06 for example....theyre bonding
What a lovely couple of playful parrots - we have a white bellied caique - he/she is so lovely and plays all day long - he is into everything! love the way your parrots interact with eachother! Very rumble tumble birds!
I dosen't matter how big the cage is, even if it was 10 foot long they will both want to sit on the same spot on the perch. Even in the wild they all perch in one tree.
uuekene do your reaserch first before you comment, caiques are wrestle birds they have a more rough play style, hyacinths are also known to wrestle like that...
if that was a territorial fight, then there would be feathers all over the place with blood in them. caiques are physical birds who like to wrestle (play) with each other.
uuekene I agree they should have separate cages (the cage is very small) I only agree for health reasons, both birds are playing and the part where they grab the others beak is a bonding play
Get a big cage(about 4 by 3 by 3 ), and make sure you buy a little teepee, because they love to sleep in those.(I have two) also, they love to chew on balsa wood. It's not really about the cage, its about the toys you will fill it with, and they don't have to be expensive either. We used half a coconut for a toy and he plays witht that more than the 40 dollar chew toy we bought him.
There's no such thing as a "starter bird". Any bird has the potential to be a good first time bird, as long as you have researched all that you need to know and you are extremely dedicated to maintaining the wellbeing of that bird. I don't believe in the whole "beginner bird" thing. You should get the bird that YOU want, rather than buying a species that you never wanted in the first place. Especially if you don't want a ton of parrots screaming and pooping all over the place.
These birds are funny when they're together. I've seen them try to steal food from inside their cage-mate's beak, and they don't tive up, EVER it seems.
How much does just one of these cost? I have a cage big enough already. How much do you spend a month on fresh foods, seeds, treats, etc? Also, how long did it take you to tame yours? All help is appreciated!!! Love the video! Too cute :D
Caiques have very strong legs. They compensate for their lesser flight capabilities with excellent climbing ability. They're little Muay Thai kickboxers.
@Bee Not true at all. All pets are a lot of work. It's just different kind of work. And you can definitely have other pets with birds as long as they don't interact.
How is it that in this day and age people don't recognize the difference between play fighting/roughhousing/wrestling and actually fighting? Like, if they were fighting there would be no question about it. You would see genuine aggression, ripping and tearing, loud screaming and thrashing about. It's just like when boys get into play fights and rassle and roughhouse on the floor or in the yard. They might punch one another, they might even kick but at the end of it all they'll be laughing and go have a drink together. Play fights are essential for getting your energy out, having fun and strengthening social bonds.
its not that they're bad for beginners, i just got a black headed caique a few months ago as my first bird and things are going awesome. its not that theyre bad for beginners, its just that beginners may not be aware of (or ready for) the level of attention that these little birds need. they need attentive owners and lots of playtime outside the cage. luckily for me i take mine to work :) they can be a bit feisty, so they need someone with a stern hand as they can be a bit stubborn and beaky.
I don't believe that a Caique isn't a good first bird. It's an excellent first bird. Everyone I know who has had a caique as a first bird has done extraordinary with them. Just like any other animal, if you don't train them they WILL playfully bite you however you may take it as them just biting. The key is to train the bird, just like a puppy, not to bite. Don't listen to anyone who says that it is not a good first bird, they are excellent first birds and I know from my own experience.
@afrogsfantasy Caiques are funny playfull birds however they are know for their (unpredictable) mood swings. From nice fluffy bird into a bird from hell in a split second. They need a firm and experienced ownder to keep them in line.
Well, I mean, I have a caique as a first parrot, and it's not that hard. The key is to NEVER EVER succumb to your urge to whack em across the room when you have been bitten really harshly. Otherwise, they seem to respond pretty well to a good, harsh "no". That, and they love praise. And need a big cage. And lots of toys. Which really isnt much to give a pet. So in my amateur opinion, theyre a fine starter bird.
I don't know anything about parrots, i don't know how i even got here but this video made me smile the entire time. The jumping around in the cage what so precious. I trust that you take good care of them, giving how playful they look.
you can try a parrotlet. they are the same size as parakeets, but as smart as a full sized parrot. they are pretty good talkers, and can be trained, but have alot of attitude. if you look them up, some people describe them as "saucy"
i very much enjoyed this video. to date i've only has love birds an a single rosella. i would love to have a caique as my first large bird. im not sure how loud they are? not so much as i seen so far.
That's how caiques play! They are not fighting! Do some research!

Caique's reaction to everything: Roll over, expose belly, grab everything with feet
Legit strategy
IF you know about this breed then you know they're just playing. btw, other birds like to play like this as well...
Birds of play.

SO CUTE!!
The people who disliked this don't know what these parrots natrually do.
Rude
They probably disliked it because of how small their cage is...
the people who disliked this either never had siblings or they were the little brothers always getting picked on.
