this is too much cute.
about the biting thing, since caiques are so alpha about stuff, the bird should be shown who the alpha is or they'll assume it is them.
One way this can be done is; When you're bit, try holding onto their beak long enough for them to realize they've done something wrong. Then, right back to playing! Just be sure they know you decide when playtime is, mealtime(NOT during playtime), sleeptime, Netflixtime, etc.
I hate to ruin this, but the idea of alpha males is a myth
Eratosthenes Not in birds. Birds actually form hierarchies. (I should note this does not apply to all bird species, just many of them.) Chickens are the most well documented example of this I can think of.

You'd be hard pressed to find a cuter parrot than this fella! LOL! It makes me miss my Hahns Macaw. He used to act just like this! He also looooved taking naps with me. He would get under the covers and roll onto his back and pull the blanket up with his feet. lol

Awwww! I just saw one at a pet store and it was 4 months old, super friendly and was on my head, trying to pull my bun apart and make a nest. I wanted it so bad, but when I asked the price, they said $2000!! My jaw dropped and I walked out heartbroken knowing I can never afford more than a budgie :( I had budgies and even had a clutch of babies as a kid.
LOL. these birds aren't $2000 dollar. I've got mine for 290 dollars (I live in Holland so it was 250 euros). But i was just lucky. They normally cost around 520 dollar (450 euro). Still very expensive, but they'll live up to 40 years. So it's a much better investment as a dog.

I am thinking of getting one. Are they hard to handle? Someone i know said they can take over if you don't show them who's in charge...so these small birds got a big attitude right? adorable bird anyways =)
They are a handful and can inflict lots of pain. Setting boundaries is fine, but you can't really discipline a bird...it just makes them mean and/or fearful. It's better to learn their triggers, and just avoid setting them off. I would say that most birds tend to take over. :)

+Nadja Auer I think you can discipline a bird, but hitting and negative reenforcement definitely wouldn't work.
one way I have taught my birds not to bite has been to hold their beak as a form of showing them two things; Something they just did had to stop, and you're the alpha. As long as it comes from a loving place, the bird's trust is not sabotaged, and even will likely grow.
Another way is to verbally show them they hurt you, with a soft but genuine "owww". I wouldn't recommend this one for all birds, but it is a great way of showing there are consequences to biting at a certain level.
I prefer the first way, because I like to play/wrestle with birds like the owner of Eli and I don't want to risk discouraging all biting.
I have never owned a Caique before. I just visit them a lot at a birdstore.

They need a lot of attention as goes to all birds, ours in my house bites hard. Try not to react to anything bad he does like bite you, he may thinks it’s a game

this little dude is clearly in playing mood. However, how come that he nevertheless seems to bite quite hard. I would have assumed that in playing mode the biting would be minimal.
All caiques bite, especially if they're playing. They use their beaks for mobility on surfaces as well as grabbing hold of anything they want. This caique wasn't biting hard, more playfully so. An actual bite would cause a lot of blood.
That is exactly right! When my husband says, "OW he bit me!" I say, is there blood? No? You weren't really bit. :)
Caiques are very bitey birds! I would still love one though. I just need to get over my dermatophagia or else I'm in for a world of hurt hehe

Hi, how to teach my black headed caique to hop, I brought him home recently, by the way he talks also

We have a year old caique and he will not hop, very playful and "crazy" otherwise. I can't seem to find anywhere if they start hopping at a certain age, when did yours start? That seems to be the funniest trick they do but ours just won't do it.
My caique is around 13 weeks, and he sometimes does a little hop when he is walking around. Is yours already hopping around now?:)
Hard to find caiques but now I have two of them my boy Picasso is outrageous and he will argue with me when I him put back the in cage 😂 but I love it.
