I don't have to cut my lorikeets feathers, he has a broken wing, and i saved him from my school or the cats in the school would have eaten him. I have looked after him nursing him to health ever snice.
@Alex McRae so before you start accusing maybe you should get more of the story, and yet i saved the lorikeet I have been looking after him and nursing him back to health, and yet i kept him snice he can't fly, his broken wing can't be fix so back off from my baby.
@Emma this bird's wings are clipped incorrectly. It also impacts their ability to express natural behaviour (fly) and most governments and animal welfare groups suggest you dont clip your bird's wings
@Destiny i believe this bird is at least 14 years old. So I doubt they got it from a breeder like this. Plus, breeders should not be treating their animals like that. I got my lorikeet from a breeder before she even learned how to fly. It would be detrimental if they clipped a bird's wings before they learn how to fly
Lot of people here clearly need to do some homework. The reason you should clip wings especially with the bigger birds, is not for fear of them flying away, it's to slow them down and keep them low to the ground. Unfortunately there are many birds each year with unclipped wings that fly full pelt into a wall and break their necks.
sam cage They regrow anyway. Don't ever pull a feather. They could end up bleeding which is very dangerous. A bird will molt naturally and feathers grow back. Then you can make the decision whether to leave them longer or cut them shorter.
Its completely nonsense what you say to defend clipping wings. First of all you have to create safe surroundings when you buy a bird like this! Second: This lori can fall from the table to the ground and break its neck, too - just because its wings are clipped!!! Clipping wings is cruelty to animals, animals of the sky!
The issue is that he clipped all of the lorikeets primary feathers. It’s more safe or keep a few so they can safely flutter down places or more easily jump across areas and to aid their climbing.
Such a gorgeus bird. I can see you love her/him very much. I am maybe planning on buying a Lori aswell in the near future since i love parrots very much. I do know they ask for alot of attention but that will be alright ^^ Nice video's sir!
@kostasandrew The wing pinions are most likely clipped. This is a common thing for domestic birds so they don't accidentally fly away. Once domesticated, Lories don't cope too well in the wild.
Cutting wings is not cruel, is necessary so they don't fly out your door or brake their neck on a window, or fly into a pot of water. etc. It doesn't hurt them. You clip your dog's nails, don't you? Is that cruel?
You clip a dogs nails he can still walk and run. Clipping a birds wings would be like me breaking your legs so you couldn't walk away. Learn to train your bird better or don't fucking have one.
So not the same thing!!! Depending on how theyre clipped some birds can still take off from the ground and they can still walk and climb its not like they're immobilized. also how many people do you reckon have the facilities to train their birds to not fly off? Maybe don't be so god damn judgmental unless you know the bird or the owner.
For me its still kinda cruel, because the bird was took from a natural enviroment and adjusted to human enviroment, to serve as a pet for people pleasure. You can tell me im judging, that this bird was raised as a pet and can be happy and owners probably love their birds, but i believe that you cannot buy a true friend, you can only adopt it. Maybe having birds isnt a bad thing, but im not sure fighting with a nature of an animal is something good.
They also love honey. When I had my lorri I had given him a bath, they love water and the next thing I saw was him lying on him back at the bottom of the cage with his cat toys in his claws. I thought he was dead the first time that I saw him. He also love the dog and the dog used to kiss him as he could taste the honey on his beak. Amazing birds.
birds play rougher than you think. as an aviculturist i have found that birds such as loris, long bill corellas and macaws love to play rough. it won't hurt them, if they thought it would hurt them they wouldn't let you do it to them.
I have a green naped lory named Nikki and she is a wonderful pet. I love her to pieces. Your lory is a beauty and I can see he/she is very tame. My bird is too! They are great pets!
in my hometown there's an exhibit at the zoo where you can feed lorikeets little cups of nectar and it's always been my favorite place to go. I had no idea they made such awesome companions! :)
Isn't it obvious? He needs to resolve his vitamin C deficiency.. The juice is right there but somehow can't get into it. He tries to communicate his need for Vitamin C to Bird Central but his master won't let him use the computer.
And you know this HOW????. Someone who has breed Australian Lorries. for many years can tell you their diet consists of a powder which contains all the vitamins and anything else they require for a healthy happy existence. As well as this you need to feed them a wet mix which contains other healthy supplements, on top top of this a 1/4 apple or pear a day and sometimes a few grapes, but not to many because of the sugar content. On top of this natural necture if you can get your hands on it, bottlebrush, the flowers of gumtrees etc. Feeding them straight juice is feeding them to much sugar and crap they add to commercial products. And don't have the audacity to try and tell ME how to feed a Lorrie, properly. Here endith the lesson to a smart arse.
Michael your an idiot, loeikeets are native to Australia, which is where I am, and the lorikeets often eat fruit from farms and random trees in peoples gardens etc (especially mangos and I know this because I WORK on a fruit farm!) and are fed apples in many sanctuaries (ive volunteered at many bird sanctuaries) You need to expand your knowledge of them beyond being caged. They have a varied diet and eat as much sugar as they can find in the wild
omg this made me sad because I lost my pet lorikeet who flew to my house 3 months ago And it flew away 2 days ago and made me cry ..hope he comes back I named him skittles
I'm from Australia, and I have a rainbow lorikeet called squeaky, he's fully lighted after a virus or something called "Runner bird" looses a lot of feathers, some may be alive while not strong lorikeets don't. Mine made it through and is flying to me everyday with practice everyday. Remember DONT bring your lorikeet outside, because they fly away and become wild quickly!!! I'm not joking this is true fact that people don't want to say.
Josh Adams when ours was younger we could do that but now he is older and doesn't like being touched as much except He still likes his neck scratches. We called ours squirtle. Three guess why haha They are quirky birds for sure, always wanting attention.
He or she is a cross between a Rainbow and a Red Collared Lorri. If you look at the underbelly you can see a difference in the two colours where a Rainbow has a mattering of colour on the chest, also around the collar is not all green, again a mattering of red. The two birds come from different parts of Australia and are seperated by by a massive dessert , this stops inter breeding, but if kept together they will breed. I've breed all Australian Lorries for years and hand rear them for pets. They really good pets but very messy.
I don't want to have a go at the dude posting this video. I also have a Rainbow Lorikeet. I've not clipped its wings. I have had a few birds in the past and it's always an open door policy. In that they have a cage but it's always open, they come and go as they please. I just couldn't clip the little fella's wings. It makes me happy knowing that although he's a bird and not out in the wild, at least he's has the ability to fly around the house unrestricted and he really enjoys that.
that's ridiculous. if you don't clip a bird's wings, it'll get scared or something and just fly through the window (even if it doesn't want to), because it's INSTINCT, and you will never see it again:) no matter how much you practice "free flying". one of my birds got frightened by a noise and flew through the window. I found him by miracle - he was on the tallest tree around. if we didn't find him, he would've died so yeah, I rather clip his wings than knowing he's out there without protection.
I have 2 rainbow lori's. Same as this one..These birds do NOT eat seed...They have a nectar mix that can be bought from pet stores or even supermarkets here in Australia..They also need fresh fruit each day and any native blossoms such as bottle brush or grevillea flowers when they can be found.Because of this diet their poop is a squirt, literally. If their cage is near a wall, it hits the wall.I have a curtain that I have hung on the wall behind their cage and take it down often to wash.
It's different from bird to bird, but my Amazon prefers not to fly. Amazons are dumpy birds with short wings and it takes an enormous amount of energy for them to fly. He walks everywhere he goes and only flies if something startles him. Right now he has all his wing feathers and it's actually dangerous. He could hit a window or something else at full speed. For safety, he needs just enough lift to keep him from landing hard. I tried to get him to fly when he turned 20. He was too lazy. :D
shaking its head that way isnt fun for the bird, for you perhaps, but not the bird, though the bird doesnt seem to mind, if it isnt slightly irritated by it. Its dangerous for a bird to feel safe when something is grabbing its head for many reasons. Also when you roll them onto their backs, they generally want to fiddle with something using their feet, and grab something with their beaks, which is something two paired birds might do if they are both in the mood. find it a fluro hard to grab toy
Comparing it to cutting off a human's arms is facile, at best. It's not even like declawing a cat. No muscle or bone is being severed (if done competently). It's not mutilation. It's anatomically more akin to cutting fingernails. Rather than criticizing, we should applaud anyone who gives a bird a happy and healthy life.
I'm not sure you're aware of this, but the words you typed really don't make sense. I was barely able to figure out what you were trying to say (if I succeeded at all). You need to work harder at grammar or your "English as a Second Language" class.
the bird is clearly happy, birds will never roll over unless they fell 100% safe. but Clipping a birds wings is fucked, imagine someone breaks your leg so you can't walk.... Unless this is a Runner keet.
it's clearly very happy, no bird will just roll over if its not feeling safe, but clipping a birds wings is fucked, imagine someone broke your leg so you couldn't walk around.
Nice bird!.. Wish your vids weren't glitchy though. on the commenting of flighted vs. not flighted... our birds to are flighted, first out of preference for their recreation. We let them fly indoors at least. Obviously, can't take them outside, as we don't have an outdoor aviary yet, but the biggest reason to leave a bird flighted is their heart. Birds that fly will have a stronger heart muscle as flying is a vigorous activity. For people who take flighted birds outside, better have a leash!
I understand that your bird doesn't 'need' to fly away etc however you really shouldn't clip their wings. Birds were created with wings so they can fly, that is how they were born/made/created etc it's like if someone cut off your arms! It's not an investment it's a living thing which has wings so it can fly. Regardless if it's happy and doesn't need to fly it should still have the option there. It's not your decision to make. nice video though :)
@randomstuffinmylife also understand that's DEFINATLEY all there is to keeping one, and how do people willingly put up to committing their life to something so demanding that can potentially maim you. I wish I could borrow one or something just to be around one and see what it's like through the life stages. I def know a macaw and prob grey isn't for me tho perhaps a lori or keet or parrotlet (?) keep me informed on when your video is up,I'd be very interested to see it
@randomstuffinmylife Hi there, I'm glad you said that because just recently I've become quite interested in parrots, as well as admiring their beauty they both facinate and scare me (macaws and greys in particular) owned 3 budgies before nothing bigger and like you say I c all these vids of ppl playing with their huge parrots like their dogs but does that mean they never get bitten? I realise they can be so smart and fun to have but
Never try to dominate a Rainbow Lorrie,...they don't like it. It's not part of their thinking. The only thing that flickers up between their eyes is KILL! You have to give one round then win the next round OK man,...but don't think you can win every round,..BAMB! Hey human,...who the F_ck are you! Bamb! lol 🤣 F_ckn BAMB!!!
agreed! i have 7 words totaling 6-8k in dollars on the market, and invaluable to me, they are my family, they all sit by me on my desk and we play together, i have a cockatiel, indian ringneck, lorikeet, rosella, amazon, and afircan grey, i would have more if i could have more time to give them each their daily attention!
I forked out $400 for an extremely tame baby Rainbow, only it became very wild within a matter of months. It was the case with 2 other rainbows I have had in the past. What am I doing wrong? Did you just get lucky with this one or do you have a certain training technique? Please respond. Would you sell this one?
this is like my brothers bird she is very playful and nice but bites so hard we cant get her out we thought it was cause of this toy bear i won her im so nice lol we are not sure cause when she got it she like killed the bear xD
Try blowing raspberries on his/her belly. My Lori goes nuts for it! Also, bang your knuckles on the table. I'm glad Lori has an owner that likes to play. I hate seing birds locked up in cages as mere pretty things.
Not only do you do the unthinkable by cutting his wings but you cut them horribly short. If he is that friendly then why cut his wings at all? You deprive him of being able to do the thing that they do best, to fly.
we clip birds wing so they dont fly into a window or some foreign objects and break bone, there are countless birds that have done so. inless they have a large aviary, you should clip the wings.
@arianefr78 His wings look fine to me....I've seen worse. If he didn't like it he would be biting him hard. I know...i own two. Lorikeets "WILL" let you know if they don't like what you are doing.
WOW!!! That's a 10.+ on the "Cute" Richter Scale! I have a Caique that loves to wrestle much the same way. It's a Blast. I wont be disappointed if he doesn't learn to talk, but I'm working it.
please get perfesional help to cut his wings better its too short you are gonna cut his blood feather n he will bleed to death.please dont cut them yourself.its not expensive.
No, birds are not an investment, but, if you are going to have them inside as part of the family, you really do need to clip their wings so they do not hurt themselves.
There is a huge difference, if you break your leg, you feel it. If properly cut, birds don't actually feel their wings being clipped. It's like clipping your fingernails.
Come to Sydney Australia. They are everywhere - we get 15-20 of them on our balcony every morning. Do a RUclips search for "lorikeets sydney" and you'll find lots of clips.
@jpoopdog2 why is it dangerous for the bird to feel safe while having its head grabbed? I get 15-20 wild Rainbows on my balcony most mornings, great to watch them play
It's a pet bird we clip wings to stop our $200 investment flying away. There bird does not need to fly as it is safe inside. it has no reason to be harmed.
Did you buy this bird at a store for how much? or this you caught this one off as a wild and trained it as a baby? There are lots of this breed in the wild
Does anyone know if a Dusky Lori speak and how old do they have to be before i start seeing results as im trying to teach him. Cheers Dave. Can someone get back to me ASAP please about it. 👍😉.
When the guy tells Lori not to touch the computer, I swear I can hear Lori say "you're jealous? anyone else hear that ?"
I do
It's funny as heck xD
pazuzu666ish
yeah definitely said it :)
Yes I heard that.
pazuzu666ish..yes i did 2..how cute !!!!
Aww! That beautiful rainbow lorikeet parrot is so cute and adorable!
It sounds like Gumi the red bird that says "Wuewuewue!" when it talks!
The lorikeet wants juice
C'est ça, le Lori veut du jus de fruit !
A Lorete did a mating dance to my hand holing a palm nut that was a similar color the other day, lol!
It is so cute how she saw your had and turned over so she can play with your hand. So damn cute.
Beautiful Bird ... but his wings are cut wrong,... The only feathers which should be clipped are the primary flight feathers ...
Is it harmful to the bird to clip more tha 2or 3 feathers per wing?
I don't have to cut my lorikeets feathers, he has a broken wing, and i saved him from my school or the cats in the school would have eaten him.
I have looked after him nursing him to health ever snice.
whenever you feel sad, open youtube and watch videos with parrots
think that they are t-rex descendants!! 😂
Blow raspberries on that belly! They love it!
Lorikeets are hard to look after though, I have one that I saved from my school and it's really hard to look after them.
@Alex McRae what I mean by saved is he had a broken wing and still does DUMBASS if I didn't the school cats would have eaten him.
@Alex McRae so before you start accusing maybe you should get more of the story, and yet i saved the lorikeet I have been looking after him and nursing him back to health, and yet i kept him snice he can't fly, his broken wing can't be fix so back off from my baby.

How long do lorikeet leave?i heard 20 years n i want to know.if this is true?how about ur lorry?
@@antreaskekkou8351 I think they live for 11 years
Those clipped wings break my heart. Cute bird though and it makes me happy to see you wrestle with him.

Bamb! lol 🤣
F_ckn BAMB!!!
agreed! i have 7 words totaling 6-8k in dollars on the market, and invaluable to me, they are my family, they all sit by me on my desk and we play together, i have a cockatiel, indian ringneck, lorikeet, rosella, amazon, and afircan grey, i would have more if i could have more time to give them each their daily attention!
You deprive him of being able to do the thing that they do best, to fly.
may i ask, what is the average life expectancy of this bird species? is it the same as a parrot e.g. 50 yrs
we clip birds wing so they dont fly into a window or some foreign objects and break bone, there are countless birds that have done so. inless they have a large aviary, you should clip the wings.
Great fun. My budgie loved a good play fight.
please get perfesional help to cut his wings better its too short you are gonna cut his blood feather n he will bleed to death.please dont cut them yourself.its not expensive.
is this rainbow or swinson?
Swanson or rainbow are the same thing if i recall correctly
Love 💕 you lorikeets the bird said your jealous.
i have been wanting to know this birds name! not hes name like polly but the breeds name.
Does anyone know if a Dusky Lori speak and how old do they have to be before i start seeing results as im trying to teach him. Cheers Dave. Can someone get back to me ASAP please about it. 👍😉.
Hah I have a red collared Lori and he dances when u take him out . He hops and bobs his head and squawks :)
Wow, I wish my cockatiel would do things like this. Too bad she won't let me scratch anything but her head.
ok im going to have one of these before i die. this is going to be my next bird. this is cute as shit.
@randomstuffinmylife - On behalf of the little bird you took home from your friends house - 'THANKS'

Ok, I'm torn between asking for an explanation and choosing to forget I ever read this.

My lorry bird stood on pencils and roller skated away....
He fell Under the table with his roller skates...
