  • A fun video about Rainbow Lorikeets and how great of a bird they can be. There are really only 2 cons that I talk about owning lorikeets in the video. I am by no means a professional on the subject, just down to earth hands on experience, and before this I had no prior experience with lorikeets. Really have enjoyed learning about the species and they are eye catchy gorgeous.

I planted serval plum trees in my backyard, every year, bunch of these little guys come and steal all the fruits, pretty cute. They are really funny guys.

Tip for others though, it really is best to get 2. They still bond with their humans, but don't imprint & see them as their mate in the way this one is with you, very entertaining to watch 2 playing too!

      Agree they need a mate

    • @tinandglass
      @tinandglass 5 месяцев назад +3

Imprinting happens when they're chicks. For instance around the 7th to 9th day a starling will imprint on its parents, but if it falls from the nest and a human feeds it, talks to it or holds it it will imprint on the human and look to the human to learn how to be a bird. As an adult, it won't find a mate. Hand fed hand raised makes it a little easier for us, but it breaks their essential birdness and makes it harder for them to bond to other birds. Working at a rescue, you see hundreds of birds ignoring other birds and competing for a human attention. It's sad really.

@@tinandglassthanks for that info, I didn’t know and I saw it first hand. Unfortunately the male is no longer with us. She on the other hand cannot live without me. It’s really a nest experience but I can see how how sanctuaries are full with these birds. 😢
Thanks for all that you do.

As an Australian, I wanted to know can they survive in your country? Like the environment might be fine specially at the West Coast Florida would be perfect, but I don’t know about how much nectar flowers you guys have but yeah, she’s a very playful bird.

They are a very common bird 🦜 for keepers in Spain. I live in the northern, colder, mountainous part of spain and she is thriving. Diet has a big part of lifespan, so it’ll be interesting to see how long they live. Meanwhile, we are enjoying her to the max.

I love rainbow lorikeets! 🫶 I'm fortunate to have a family of them visit me daily several times a day in Australia. Watching the juveniles grow up is so cute, but wait till you see a male lori with a female one dance and show her affection. 😍 Yup, the poop is something! I tell them that my balcony is a "poop-free zone!" 😂

That must be a really nice experience to see all the brightly feathered lorikeets hang around your home. That explains why my bird dances with me, she always do that! Thats so cool, thanks for the info.
Poop 💩 is the only thing they have that I would change the consistency of 😂

How do i get the lorikeet to eat from my hand? If i have my hands in her cage no problem she will come close and feel my arm, but if i try to rub her she backs away,
I want to be able to let her out

Yes it’s very sad to see lorikeets in someone’s home. They are wild Australian Birds. She ended up in my possession because i purchased her from a reputable breeder when she was a chick. 🐣

She needs a nesting box or something that is like a tree hollow in her cage otherwise she will sleep laying on the bottom of the cage which is just so cruel. Lorikeets sleep laying down and pile in hollows in family groups in the wild. If you think shes noisey you should hear a flock of them- funny thing is a flock of them is called a migraine 😂😂😂 I have a rescue rainbow lorikeet and he has a bed filled with handkercheifs like little blankets and he rolls around and has so much fun in his bed. He loves those cat balls and party bag maraccas - he loves to roll around in his bed playing with them. If you choose a fabric bed you need to remove it once a week or once a fortnight at the most to wash and check that they haven't destroyed the fabric so they dont get injured on any shredded fabric or anything. They absolutely love bells- lorikeets go bananas for bells! They love bird stands made of perches from tree branches of different sizes. Its a shame your not here in australia where you could get her native perches and native flowers- they loooove the native flowers (mind you they're like rocket fuel 😂) They are awesome birds. Our lorikeet is called Sunset - he has more red on his chest and hes so much more sassy than your bird! He chucks epic tantrums and screams the house down- chucks his toys and himself around the room if he doesn't get his own way! He is so funny but so narcassistic- if he hurts himself or gets a scare its our fault and he bites us for it. He was annoyed at me today because I wore a skirt with gorgeous australian eastern rosellas on it today and he flipped out and got nasty over it- honestly you have to see it to believe it! He also talks a lot and has rusty coral eyes not ruby red with blue centres- he's a handsome boy - I wonder what your gorgeous female would think- she'd probably think he was weird with all his whacky dance moves and tongue waggling (its hilarious) 😂

@@Angry_Hogs i would love you to come to Australia and see all the magnificent wild birds and animals here! We are really very blessed. Even where I live I have Crimson and Eastern Rosellas, willie wag tails, honey eaters, rainbow lorikeets, musk lorikeets, red rumped parrots, galahs, cockatoos, corellas, silver eyes, wattle birds, pied currawongs, crested pigeons and magpies even visit our yard or land in the neighbours gum tree! We are very blessed! Apparently a lot of people who visit Australia say it's like visiting a pet store because we have so many birds. You might like the snakes here too except we have some of the most poisonous and deadly snakes in the world- I am so grateful I haven't encountered any myself but I have a friend who is a snake catcher.

Do they want/need the socialization that your African Grey needs? Do they form attachments to 1 person like Majo?
She is definitely loud, my dog was freaking out a little while I watched the video, thinking a bird was in the house.😂
